  • What is this folder and files doing in my Temporary folder? Is it a trojan or similar data miner?

    Hi,
I have located this folder and files in my C:Temp Directory(Normally C:Windows/temp).
    CompatTelemetryLogs with
    AppAndDeviceInventory.log right next to it.
and the following inside the folder.
Folder = "IMG" lots of little image files of all my software
Folder = "Resources" with nothing in it.
    Files:
    CompatData_2014_10_17_06_04_14_1_008001ff.xml
    compatscancache.dat
    DeviceGroupingRules.xml
    diagerr.xml
    diagwrn.xml
    PreliminaryReport.xml
    setupact.log
    setuperr.log
    TelemetryTransform.xsl
    WICA_Devices_SOL.xml
    WICA_Programs_SOL.xml
    WICA_QueryAppBlock_SOL.xml
    WICA_QueryBiosBlock_SOL.xml
    WICA_QueryDeviceBlock_SOL.xml
    WICA_System_SOL.xml
    WICA_SystemReport_SOL.xml
    WICA_TelemetryReport_SOL.xml
    WicaDeviceFilters.xml
    Windows_TelemetryData.xml
Not sure about all of these but I did a search for this one: "TelemetryTransform.xsl" and one entry was this below(except I do not have any office program installed form MS, I use Open Office) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219431%28v=office.15%29.aspx
    And this one: "Windows_TelemetryData.xml"
    https://www.google.com/search?num=100&safe=off&hl=en&site=webhp&source=hp&q=Windows_TelemetryData.xml&oq=Windows_TelemetryData.xml&gs_l=hp.12...6809.28780.4.29973.3.3.0.0.0.0.82.216.3.3.0.ccynfh...0...1.1.56.hp..14.0.0.0.KGgYvIjDHXA
I am not attempting to install windows 8? at all so why this is coming up is beyond me I am using Win7 64 Pro and am quite happy with that version.
Is all of this just some attempt at someone to install windows 8 on my system through the comcast internet system?
I also have now searched for the file that was next to the folder: "AppAndDeviceInventory.log" and got this:
    http://www.exclusive-networks.be/Vendors/mobileiron/
It looks like someone is or has installed an application to make my windows send data over the internet or network. Making my entire windows system hosed with this. Or has someone any idea of how to get rid of it?
    Thanks ahead!

  • What's this folder?

I ran across this odd folder in my User > Library > Preferences directory. It's called StageManager.BD092818F67280F4B42B04877600987F0111B  594.1. It contains a single sub-folder called Local Store. There is nothing in the sub-folder.
Doing a little searching, I don't really find much about it beyond some indication that it might be associated with Adobe apps, but I also find a lot of Windows users implying that it's associated with some malware/rootkit/virus/plague of locusts/etc. So, it's all pretty inconclusive. I've not noticed this folder before, and haven't installed any new software recently, so I have no clue where it came from or when it first appeared.
Anyone else have this folder in their Preferences? Anyone with a good guess as to what it's for?

    Does this

strike a bell? It used to be called Stage Manager.

Are you referring to 4.3.5? It is a security update for an issue with Web certificates.

  • What's this new update i got this morning all about??

  • Switching from PC, what is this folder?

I am in the process of switching from a PC to my Macbook Pro so I'm not too familiar with the folders on the laptop. I have a folder on the root of the Macintosh HD called 775. It has nothing in it and I don't remember seeing it before. If I try to drag it to the trash I am asked for the admin password, like when you install software. Anyone know what on earth this is? TIA!

    npudenz,
It is perfectly normal that you are being asked for your password. In fact, this is one very good example of why you don't need to worry about security so much in OS X. Any modification of certain directories requires that you have admin authorization.
However, having "lockups" is definitely not normal, and could be an indication of disk errors. I recommend that you use Disk Utility to check the health of your startup volume. If you don't know how, just ask.
Here's another reason why you switched: Any behavior that requires you to perform a "forced shut-down" is a good indication that something is wrong. Applications can always be prone to crashing or freezing, but these behaviors do not affect any other apps or OS X. If OS X itself (or the Finder) is freezing or crashing, something is wrong.

  • What is this folder and what does it want with me?

I just installed QuickTime 7.5.5 and after the install I found a new folder in the HD folder at root level, called "Developer". It contains a number of items. I took a screen shot of the folder and its contents, but I can't figure out how to display it here.....
Is it maybe supposed to be an Invisible folder? Or one that was to be cleaned up by the Installer?

Dave Sawyer said: The folder, sans installing the developer tools, contains some Java utilities.
Nope... Don't see no Java stuff. Several nested folders (folder inside Developer is called "Extras") some with images, some with .nib files I have a screen shot and if you can tell me how to get it into my next reply I will show you what I have.
I have no use for useless stuff, so if the stuff is useless I want to trash it, if not useless I want to use it.

  • What is this folder ?

I have all my projects and events on a second internal drive on my Mac Pro. Nothing should be in the movie folder except the Motion templates I think. But every time I start project and quit. I can see three folder in movie folder on my system drive: Final Cut Events not in use and another folder Final Cut Events and inside that folder there is another folder with the name Effects Browser Thumbnails with lot of other folders which includes files with names such as Frame 0 - 1023. If I delete those folder they appears again and again. Could someone explain this to me. (seems impossible to upload screen shot)
    Thank you
    Innocentius

    Hmmm . . .
    This is my movies folder.
I assume the Events folder is there because I occasionally launch FCP X with my Hard Drives offline.

  • User Template : what is this folder ?

I've noticed a new folder called "user template" with a no access sign on it in the system folder. What is it ? Can it slow the system down ? Should I trash it ?

Don't touch anything in the System folder unless you are sure about what you are doing. That folder contains the initial home folder contents (in various languages) used when creating new user accounts, so changing its contents would make new accounts start with different folders and files in their home folders. It is only used when creating new accounts, so is not slowing the system.

  • What is this folder .trashes?

On my MAC, there are, just recently, a number of folders, all preceded with a ".", such as .trashes when I open Finder. Before I do anything like trying to delete these, I am just wondering what they are and where they came from. Can I clean all of these up?
I see these same kinds of "directories" on my USB flash drive all of the time when working between my MAC and my Windows laptop. However, I have a little utility program that runs and wipes all of those "directories" clean when the USB flash drive is inserted into the laptop, called USB Drive Fresher 1.0

These are hidden files. Any file with proceeded with a "." = hidden file. Do not delete these files.
Change the finder view back to default, using terminal. See the article below. Replace "True" with "False" in the given terminal command.

  • SMQS Name of AS group what does this do for log balancing

We have 4 app servers and 1 DB instance. Our maintenance company has a BW system to pull data from our IS-OIL ECC instance.
INstead of using DEFAULT which cased issues, we change the Default to the CI instance and no app servers.
Why would this only work with the CI and no load balance accross the app servers.
It seems to work really well from the CI to there BW systems, but need to understand why not including the app servers in the RZ12 would make a difference.
    Thanks
    Jexun Wildfire

    Hello Jexun,
When you create a logon group at RZ12, and define this logon group at SMQS, the RFC outbound scheduler will use only the instances that belongs to that logon group to perform the load balance, when processing outbound RFCs.
Can you please send more information regarding the issues you've faced when using "DEFAULT" at SMQS? "DEFAULT" means that the Outbound scheduler will load balance across all available instances of the SAP system.

  • [SOLVED] What is this isus folder?

Hi.  A folder named isus just suddenly appeared in my home folder.  It contains one file called update.ini.
What is this folder and where did it come from?  Maybe I put it there, but I don't remember.
I tried googling it, but I just get a whole buncha stuff about ASUS.

Wow.  I do indeed have Maple 11 on my system. So that must be it.  It must've been there for quite a while and I just never noticed it before.
    Thanks a bunch.

  • I think I found out what the iTunes + iPod update problem is

    All,
I spent some more time trying to figure out what exactly this iPod update/iTunes problem is and I think I discovered something interesting.
I can manually sync my MP3's but not my AAC files. When I sync MP3's - iTunes and the iPod are fine. However, as soon as I attempt to sync even one Protected AAC file, iTunes bombs.
I'd be interested in seeing if others try this and get the same results. If this is the core problem, syncing protected or AAC files, then we may be able figure out the exact component that has botched everything up here.
    Chris

RE: manual sync - I mean manual copying through iTunes. That is - not selecting to update the songs automatically. I drag them from my library to the iPod within iTunes so I have control what goes there.
Bummer - I thought I was on to something. All I can say is that I can sync anything but the Protected AAC's. When I let it automatically sync my iPod, iTunes bombed. When I selected manual syncing and moved a playlist, it bombed after a few songs. I tried to look into why it would stop on certain songs, and noticed that it was bombing on the protected AAC's. So, I copied over 1000 MP3's including songs and podcasts, and they copied successfully. I selected one AAC and immediately it bombed.
Maybe our problems are not the same?

  • Question about this folder ....

What is this folder ? C:\Users\**\Pictures\Wallpapers\iPod Photo Cache
Is folder contains all the pictures I ever took with my iphone (even deleted ones) ?
Also how can I view files that end with *.ithmb ?
    Thanks

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
When transferring photos from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, the photos are optimized for viewing on your iPhone, which is what the iPod Photo Cache stores. If you delete the iPad Photo Cache for a folder of photos that has been selected to be transferred to your iPhone and the folder remains selected, the photos will be optimized again and another iPod Photo Cache will be created.
