What kind of format is best for OSX?

I just bought a new iMac loaded with OSX Tiger. I have an existing external hard drive which I used from my PC machine and I want to use it in my iMac. Which format do I format the disc into? There are so many options and I'm unsure which is the best. OSX Extended, OSX Extended (Journaled), etc, what is the difference of these formats in terms of usage?

The default file format OS X Extended Journaled is the most common one to use. It provides support for OS X file system, as well as supporting file journalling, which can help restore files that may become damaged if the computer should freeze, or shutdown unexpectedly. Journalling keeps a list of files that have pending modifications to be made, but have not yet had the data written to the disk. Should your iMac freeze up on you, then the next time you start the iMac up, it checks the current state of the hard drive against the journaled list. If a file didn't finish being updated, the iMac completes the needed updates to the file system.
The disadvantage to journaled file systems, is that they are slightly slower then non journaled counter parts, however, they have an advantage when it comes to protecting data integrity of your hard drives.
Journaled file systems have another slight disadvantage, they tend to be more difficult to repair when a major drive failure or corruption occurs. However, this should be a non issue, since you should not be relying on data recovery utilities for major problem, but should instead have adequate backups in place.

We are about to install Business One 2007A for a new customer. There will be about 10 users on the system, with one server. Currently the customer has MS SQL 2005 Server on all of their workstations but not on the server. They do not have information on the type of licensing they have for SQL. Is there a way to tell what kind of license they have? What kind is recommended for this configuration? Is there a way to transfer the SQL software from one of the workstations to the server? MS SQL Express edition is free and probably what they have installed if they do not know and they are legal. It is limited by the size of the database, # CPUs etc. Goto http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2005/en/us/compare-features.aspx for a full listing of features and limitations. SQL 2008 has slmilar versioning.
You may want to use the database sizing tool on the SAP Portal to estimate the size of their database to determine if they need a workgroup or standard edition.

What kind of monitor is best for judging what the printed image will look like?

I am working on a 300+ page book that contains a lot of photos that I have converted from color to grayscale in photoshop. I am using a laptop computer and I cannot judge the quality of the photos on this laptop monitor. What is the best monitor for gauging what the finished product will look like? It is a hardcover book that will be offset printed. I do not know if this particular printer uses computer-to-plate technology or if it is "old style." Thanks!

You need to set your calibration parameters very carefully. Eizo ColorNavigator (and NEC Spectraview) are the only calibrators that give you full control of the calibration parameters, because they communicate directly with the monitor. Hence my recommendation of the CS240, which is the least expensive model in this market segment. Excellent value for money.
Set the white point so that it is a visual equivalent to paper white, both in luminance and color. A little experimenting is necessary. Start around 100 cd/m² and 6300K, and adjust as needed. Ambient light affects your perception, which is why no fixed numbers can be given.
Even more important: set a realistic black point. Monitor manufacturers love to boast huge contrast ranges, like 1000:1 and so on. Impressive on paper, but in reality there's no way you'll get those deep blacks in print. Especially not offset print.
My starting point for offset is 0.5 cd/m², but often that turns out to be too low and I end up with 0.6 or even 0.7. This depends a lot on the paper stock.
Next, ask the printer what CMYK profile is used for the actual process. Here in Europe, that's most likely ISO Coated v2 300% (eci) or Coated FOGRA39, in other parts of the world it will be something else. Use Photoshop to soft proof to this profile. Again, the Eizo is wide gamut and covers ISO Coated almost 100%. A standard gamut monitor will be a lot less useful for soft proofing.
With a little experience and effort, you can get close to 100% reliable prediction on screen.

Pricey for 40GB's but looks portable. Wish I knew if it was a 3.5" or 2.5" drive. If its a 3.5" it too will need an external power supply.

I use an Akai usb turntable with the Audacity sw delivered with it. To monitor during recording I also use the LineIn utility (all this on a Macbook Pro with Mavericks).
It works fine, only the input volume of the usb audio port cannot be adjusted (at least I did not yet discover how to do it) and the volume of the music is lower than other music imported into iTunes from CD or iTunes store, but still acceptable.

I have several tables in same schema. Each of them is bigger than 200MB. DML commands are executed continuously against these tables. After diagnosis, I know than the sequential read wait is the root cause. Should I partition each of them?

BTW sequential read wait has to do with index scans, not table scans. Table scan waits are reported as scattered reads, not sequential.

I'm a tech junkie, I love everything about technology.. especially FAST and EFFICIENT technology..
I am currently using Google Chrome, and have nothing bad so say about it.. I like that I can "sign in" to Google Chrome pretty much anywhere (including my iPhone 5s), and instantly have access to all of my Bookmarks and Bookmark folders..
I have seen a bunch of benchmark tests testing a bunch of available internet browsers on OSX.. however, the results seem a bit inconclusive and varying, and some that even support the notion that Safari is now FASTER than Google Chrome.. I'm not sure whether or not to believe it, and I don't really have the time/energy to conduct a series of tests on my own..
What do you guys think? Is Google Chrome still considered the "fastest" when it comes to browsing/downloading?

Has anyone used or have any opinions about Lightning? I found some positive reviews around, and granted they all mention it's unrefined, they all seem to think it is the fastest. Great as that may be, before I fork out the $2 I would like to get some more info regarding privacy and security.

DVDs are only SD. There was at one time HD-DVDs, which DVD SP and Compressor can make, but HD-DVDs will only play in Macs and, now obsolete HD-DVD players. HD-DVDs will not play back in standard DVD players or Blu-Ray players. If you want to make a "DVD will be played on DVD player for TV" disc, your only choice is SD.
If you want HD video on a disc, then you want Blu-Ray. You will need a Blu-Ray burner (Apple does not make a Blu-Ray burner so you will have to buy a third-party Blu-Ray burner), Blu-Ray discs and software that will make a Blu-Ray disc. That could be the latest version of Compressor, or FCPX, or Toast, or Encore.

The iPhone 6 currently uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass. There was some speculation that they would start using Sapphire glass but I guess they’re not ready yet. I have had my iPad 2 for years now and the glass is still perfectly fine. My new iPhone 6 uses a more developed version of the same glass. Will the glass break? Yes. Will the glass scratch? Yes, if you carry your phone in the same pocket as your car keys, the screen will scratch. It’s not impervious, just highly resistant.
I do have a real life controlled experiment going on in the family. My wife and one son have their iPhone 6s in a case WITH a screen protector. Myself and my other son carry our iPhone 6s around without ANY protection whatsoever, no case and no screen protector. So far they all still look perfectly fine. We’ll se how this experiment turns out.

What kind of Certificate is needed for Client to DP/MP communication? I know what the documentation says about setting up a Client cert and setting up auto enroll however, we are not able to setup auto enroll in a couple domains so we are trying
to figure out how to get certs on these other machines.
Will any cert listed in the personal store of the Client and the MP/DP work?
How does Config Manager pick the cert it needs to use for this on the CLient side and MP side?

We manually created a cert for a machine using the Config Manager Client template. THis was the same template used to create the config manager client cert that we installed on the site system.
So both the Config Manager server and Client have a cert created with this template (and therefore show the same template id).
The client and config manager server have root certificate in the trusted root store from the same CA.
in our ccmmessaging.log file on the client we get the following error.
Certificate [Thumbprint ksdjfskfjdsfksjfskdfjskdjfskjfskdjfklsjdfslkfjdslkf] issued to 'machinename' doesn't have private key or caller doesn't have access to private key.
in the certificates MMC it shows for the certificate with the above thumbprint..
you have a private key that corresponds to this certificate.
What are we missing?
