What problems will I have if I reinstall OS 10.6.3?

I have an older version of Pro Tools, 8.0.5  I have just inherited my wife's 2010 MacBook Pro.  It has Mavericks installed.  Pro Tools 8.0.5 has not been supported by newer operating systems.  I have the original discs that came with the computer (Mac OS 10.6.3). Can I install an older OS? What is the down side?

Yes. The downside is that you must erase the drive in order to install Snow Leopard.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
     1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
     2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
     3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
     4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

I have an 8 year old G5 / OS X 10.4.11, what kind of problems will I have now switching from Mobileme to iCloud?

You can migrate to iCloud, but the only thing you will be able to do is access email, and you will have toi set Mail up manually to do this:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger
This is worth doing to maintain your email address, but you won't be able to sync calendars, contacts or bookmarks. Your calendars and contacts will be removed from MobileMe (though not from your Mac) and won't appear on the iCloud website.

My 160g iPod classic was originally formatted to PC and I have now moved across to Mac. What problems will I encounter syncing my iPod with my iTunes on my Mac?

If it's formatted for usage with PCs, syncing it from a Mac may be slow, it can't store files which are 4GB or larger, and its firmware can't be updated from a Mac without restoring it.

  • When I issue the 'Force group Settings' command what effect will this have on existing flows? Do I need to disable WCCP prior to issuing this command on the affected WAE's?

    Hi WAAS Experts,
I have a query, when I issue the 'Force group Settings' command what effect will this have on existing flows? Do I need to disable WCCP prior to issuing this command on the affected WAE's?
    Thanks,
    Shankar K

    Hi Shankar,
A change of classifier/policy on the WAE is not affecting the existing flows so you shouldn't need to disable WCCP if you want to force group settings there.

  • I wiped my MacBook Pro due to a problem, will I have to pay for iMovie or iPhoto that was originally installed on my older MacBook Pro ?

Due to a problem with my older MacBook Pro I had to wipe it clean. Now I no longer have iPhoto or iMovie , will I have to pay for those programs ? If so, are there any older versions available I can download for free.

a brandnew Mac (=aka after a clean isntall), should be registered with an AppleID.
Then, you're entitled to download the pre-installed apps for free from AppStore, just log-in with that Apple-ID...-

  • Private browsing worked fine on the last version, but does not seem to work at all in the new 4 version, so what is the problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but that does not solve the problem.

My points above lay out the problem and I get messages telling me it can't find the files....Why is it not working when it did just fine right up until you came out with version 4???
Any suggestions? I may have to go to another browser, but I have always like your product best.

You are welcome. There has never been a need to move that one before, but try it since you can always put it back.
If the same, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • What problems will I encounter when I upgrade to leopard?

    Hi,
I'm going to purchase a Leopard upgrade for my MacBook Pro, but i've read alot of problems that users are encountering on this forum (Saying that, I've been on the MacBook Pro forum and there's alot of posts concerning issues/problems with this Laptop, but I have not ever had any).
So is there any initial problems that I WILL encounter when upgrading my MacBook Pro 1GB 2.16GHz Intel Duo Core from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1?
    Regards,

I'm still awaiting delivery of OSX Leopard, but I think what I might do once it arrives is to just upgrade with no backup of my current 10.4.11 on an external Hard Drive. What could possibly go wrong? nothing really has with any apple product i've bought so far.
That's just plain foolish. Never ever upgrade without a backup. We get "this operating system ate my hard drive posts" here all the time. Why? Not because the operating system is flawed, but because people don't take proper precautions. No operating system can handle:
    1. Corrupt system data files.
    2. Third party drivers and firmware that aren't updated.
    3. Lack of disc space.
    4. Directory damage.
    5. RAM that hasn't been completely tested.
With every update, a different angle on the problems above appears to happen, because each update accesses data files slightly differently, whether to match newer specs for information, or to better manage memory for other types of applications which need better memory management. Unfortunately unless you are using a vanilla system, which most people aren't, your chances of success diminish with each new addon you put in. See my upgrade FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
And NEVER EVER upgrade without at least two backups.

  • I can't clear my history anymore. Just started doing this two days ago. Even setting auto history clearing didn't help. Will I have to remove/reinstall?

I can no longer clear my history. I have done this every day for years, and since two days ago The clear history box wont open when I try to clear my history. I tried setting the auto clear option, but that also did not work.
Is there anything else I can try within firefox or my computer, or will I need to remove firefox and then reinstall it?
    Thank you

  • What Problems Will I Experience Going from Acrobat 11 Pro, Back Down to 10 Pro

Over a year ago I purchased, for my wife, Acrobat 10 Pro. We tried to install it on a Windows 7, 64 bit machine. It kept crashing, we didn't know about this forum, so we gave up and put it away. She never got to use the educational training we purchased with it, either. She then found and used some free software that came bundled with her printer to create pdf files and she used that up until now. But now she needs to create password protected pdf files, so we're shopping again.
We tried the Acrobat 11 Pro and it worked through the trial period. The trial period has since expired.
Tried to contact someone at Adobe to see if there was any kind of a credit for trading up an Acrobat 10 that was never used, for Acrobat 11. No reply.
Okay, I thought that maybe our DVD had a faulty or corrupted copy of Acrobat 10, and I thought about downloading a version of the Acrobat 10 Pro software and trying it again. But, if I have already downloaded Acrobat 11 trial version, will there be any conflict going back to version 10?  Are there any known issues about this attempt?
    Thanks.
    RG

Regular_grind the return period has unfortunately expired for Acrobat 10.  You can qualify the upgrade pricing for Acrobat 11 however.  You can find more details regarding the upgrade pricing at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide-upgrade-pricing.html.
If you feel there is a problem with your installation media then I would encourage you to copy the contents of the DVD to your Desktop.  If you do not receive any write errors then it is likely your installation media is good and valid.
If you do need to download a fresh copy of the Acrobat 10 installation files then please see http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-acrobat-x-10-pro-reader-suite-direct-download-links-ddl.ht ml.  Please make sure that you complete the Very Important Instructions prior to scrolling down the page and clicking on the download link.
Finally if you do receive errors during your Acrobat installation then I would recommend posting the specifics to the Acrobat Installation & Updates Issues forum  -http://forums.adobe.com/community/acrobat/installation_and_update_installation.

  • If I run CC Cleaner, what effect will it have on my current CS6 apps?

I am not able to download the new CC apps.  I was told to delete my old App Mgr, and download a new version.  Now I have no App Mgr, and nothing at all will download.  So I was then told to run CC Cleaner and try the download again.  However, the only choice to run it on the Creative Cloud includes also running it on the CS6 apps.  I'd like to know whether this means my current apps would also be removed and have to be re-downloaded.  This is probably not a step I'd be willing to take, especially since it isn't clear that this would solve the original problem.
    Thanks for any help.

You should be able to install the Creative Cloud application from https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud when signed in with your Adobe ID. This new application will handle downloading and installing CC or CS6 applications.

  • Reader XI requires 1024X768 resolution. My video card max is 1024X600. What poblems will I have?

I am running Reader X. It says it requires 1024 X 768 resolution. My video card max resolution is 1024 X 600. I haven't had any problems I couldn't overcome or weren't fixed by Adobe. Reader XI has the same requirement so I'm wondering if I will encounter any new problems.

If you are on Windows, you could check if a newer graphics card driver allows a higher resolution.  See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/945765

  • Have 10.6.8-what affect will Lion have on FCP, iMovie?

I must upgrade to Lion, but have heard that the affect on FCP & i'Movie is very bad. What can I expect when I upgrade? Should I wait for Mountain Lion in July?

It really depends on the version.  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table has a good guide for Lion.  The Mountain Lion listing though is premature since no one yet has the official release of it until the date announced on http://www.apple.com/pr/ it is available for download. • What issues will I have if I take sql 2005 on 32bitOS TO sql 2005 on 64bit?

Last Year our SolMan was installed on 32bit OS, with SQL 2005 on Windows Ent. Edition (UNICODE).
I am preparing to migrate it to 64bit OS, and want to get there as quickly as possible without jepordizing the data integrity.
I was thinking that rather than doing a data export and import, that I could simply do a detach/attach of sql 2005
On the NEW server with 64bit OS My plan is to install SolMan 7.0 UNICODE & SQL 2005
If anyone has had experiences with this I would really appreciate tapping into your experience
    Thank You in Advance
    Regards,
    Maria

    Hello Maria,
We have used attach and detach method. We used the system copy option in the installation master for the java instance. Search for SAP notes for more detail - i dont have the right note handy.
