What's faster: API request or web app search via Ajax?

Just curious, since I use both a lot. Assume there are a lot of records to retrieve.

Ajax search of web apps below 800 - fine, if above then you wont return all results and have pagination so will miss out some results if they are big searches. Web app data pull will be similar but return all results better. Your web app search will be based on the layout you choose so the results would be pre-formated html based on a layout. Your API results will be the json response data of the whole thing you will then need to pluck out and form a rendered layout with or work with.
Depends on what you want to use the data for.
If it is to work out more calculations with your scripting then the API way would be the best but if your just wanting results and to display, the ajax would be the quicker method in general, not nessarily with the post but when you factor in everything.

  • Web App {tag_edit} doesn't render in web Web App search results within secure zone?

We have secure zones that are to display certain web app items to be filtered by Category. The secure zone members need to filter through web app items and edit these items from the list view. We've set it up accordingly and the list view is exactly how it should be when it is simply displaying on a page within the secure zone, however when the web app search/filtering is applied the "edit" tag doesn't display. Is there anyway to have this work or does it simply not? Please tell me it is possible to filter and edit web apps.
    Thanks in advance,

Hi The Bowery, the edit tag will not show in general web app item search results unless the owner of that web app item is logged in to a secure zone to view it.
However, if you are happy for anyone looking at the website to edit all web app items, you can set that in the properties of the web app itself. Then I think the edit tag will show to anyone looking at the web app items.
If you only want the web app item owner to edit the web app item then you need to set up a secure zone for them to log in and view it.
It will show when the web app item owner is logged in and viewing the web app items, if the edit tag has been added to the layout customisations. So it will only show to the web app item owner.
You need to set up a secure zone for the web app item owners to upload and edit their web app items.
Search results on a webapp use the List template layout  for the webapp to show a summary of the search results and the detail Template Layout is what shows when you click on the search result summary item. In webapp setups I usually put the edit tag in the List template

  • I need to display a web app search form, inside the detail view of another web app. Does anyone know

I can't seem to get a web app search form to work inside another web app detail page. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I can display a list of web app items; and the search form works on a standard page; but when I try to load it within another web app's detail page, I get an error: "page not found". This happens regarless of whether I put {module_searchresuts} on the same page as the form, or if I redirect results to another page.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Heya.. You currently can not do that within the detail view but it is possible to redirect the results to another page.
    Simply replace this red portion:
    action="/Default.aspx?SiteSearchID=50&PageID={module_oid}"
    with:
    ID=/results-page.html
...results-page.html being the page you want instead.

  • Site search and web app search !

how can I get a one web app search function to search all the fields within the web app. It seem I need a search field for each data fiefield in the web app.
Ideally my clinet wants a holistic search so that it will search all content within the site - most of which is within web apps ?
also does anyone know hoew you can edit the the result results icon - so if the web app is a news instead on the box I could put a news icon ?

Liam, thanks for  your response. Unfortunately, the client wants a single search in the header of the entire site that will search both pages and web app content (without missing the custom field data), So I guess i am/was looking for a work around rather than a replacement.

  • Setting up a web app search field that searches all web app data

    Hi BC forum
We have this web site - bridgerd.com.au - and we are finding limitations with the web app search bar (where it says: Search Bridge Rd). This search bar will only search for data within the Web App 'description field'. We're wanting it to work a little more like the site search module, where it searches all content of a particular web app - including data from different fields.
Obviously this would be a great out-of-the-box feature for BC, and it seems to be an annoying limitation. Has anyone overcome this issue before? Is there a way to search all fields by concatenating a bunch of hidden fields into one submitted search using java script. Or could we using java script to copy the same entered search value to all fields whilst hiding all but the main search field?
    Cheers

Actually, let me clarify this... Is there a way to expand the "Keyword" field search in web apps past the limits of only searching the "Content" field?
    OR
Is it possible to include the custom fields in our web app to the search criteria? When I add the web app to the page, it seems BC will only add the default web app search fields. If I can add the custom web app search fields, I may be able to employ my theory as per last post.
    Cheers

  • Set Disable or Expiry Date for web app item via Edit form

I have a user that wants to delete a web app item from a secure zone edit form, but they are not the owner of that web app item.  All items in the web app were imported via a csv file and hence do not have a 'submitted by' user id assigned.
Is it possible to Disable a web app item using a web app Edit form?  or alternatively, is it possible to set the Expiry Date of a web app item using a web app Edit form?
    Thanks
    Dave

Sorry Brian, but I'm not sure that answers my question.
Sure, I can create a single web app item for every single client of my customer, manually.
Sure, I can create and 'allocate' that single web app item to each customer manually.
I pray the customer doesn't have hundreds of clients. And I would have to teach my customer how to do this convoluted process for every new client.
But the one thing this doesn't do is answer the question of updating the value of units held.
It seems the order module remains the closes to what I am looking for in that it allows an equation, and is automatically customer specific.
However, I am looking for a way to achieve a single daily update by the customer as to the value of the units held by each client. This can be done via the product module - update price. But this does not update existing orders. Exisitng orders are fixed at the price on the day. The customer wants to update the value once, in one place, and have that amend all existing 'orders' to reflect the new total value of units held by each individual client, and to have this show in each client's member area.
If you can think of a way of doing this in webapps or via the order module, this is what I am looking for. Anyone?

    Hi,
The way to do that would be to use jQuery post function http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.post/ and submit the web app search form using that function, then capture the results and display them on the page.
    See http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/733/bc_733.html#main_Web_App_Search
JavaScript is outside of support's scope so I can not unfortunately offer more help on this, but I hope this gives you an idea of what you need to do.

  • How can I use a web app to provide me with results from a matrix?

I have a need to set up a search type box based off a matrix. This is a matrix which shows a list of zip codes down the left column, and a list of products across the top, and the corresponding field from a zip code and a product is the freight rate.
    e.g.
              Product 1     Product 2     Product 3     Product 4
    1234     $10               $12               $14               $16
    4567     $11               $11               $13               $17
    5678     $55               $54               $27               $35
so the freight rate to 4567 for product 3 is $13.
Then what i want to have is a drop down list for a customer to select the product, then a field to enter their zip code, and the search result will be the cross referenced freight rate.
Is this possible? If so, can someone guide me as to how this would be done?

Throw this open to the community to chip in, but off the top of my head.... thinking of something along lines of:
    Create 3 web apps,
Product (Fields Product Name & ProductID)
Zipcode (Fields Area Desc & Zipcode)
Freight Rates (Fields FreightRateID (made up of ProductID_ZipCode), Freight Rate)
Create a web app search form for Web App Freight Rates with:
Product select, with options drawn from web app 1 using ProductID for value.
Zipcode select, with options drawn from web app 2 using Zipcode for value.
    Hidden FreightRateID field.
Once a visitor has selected their product and zipcode, using javascript concatenate the selected ProductID with selected Zipcode.
This will produce a FreightRateID (e.g. PROD1_4567), which can be loaded into the hidden FreightRateID field.
When submitted, it will perform a web app search for a Freight Rate that matches the chosen product and zipcode, ie. FreightRateID.
To make entry of the freight rates easier, maybe add 2 datasource fields to the Freight Rate web app for Product and Zipcode.
Then create a front end web app add/edit (via a secure zone) to allow entry to be done by:
Select product, select zipcode then enter freight rate.  (FreightRateID can be created and populated in same way as search above)

  • Windows Server 2008 (TS) and Lync Web App installation failure

    Hey folks,
I've run into a little big problem due the Lync Web App installation via mstsc on a stand alone Terminal Server 2008 SP2 64 Bit. When I tried to install the Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user I get the message:
    "The system administrator has
set up a policy that the installation
    prevents"
    Till that it's just fine.
The next thing I did is to disable the UAC and DEP, but same problem as above. I also tried to extract the install EXE for the MSI packages to allow the installation. But did not work.
After I searched the internet for an answer relating to this problem I've had to create or change a RegEdit entry. So I switched to the registry to:
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
and created a DWORD entry DisableMSI and set it to 0. Then I tried the installation of Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user again and this message appeared:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"
Now the curious thing is, that when I am logged on locally, the standard user is able to install the Lync Web App Plugin. And it works fine. After the installation is complete I can switch to mstsc again and it works.
The only thing what doesn't work is to install Lync Web App Plugin via mstsc into the user profile.
    Any suggestions?

Before you install the application, change your user mode to installation mode.
You can run the following command with Prompt Command:
    Change user /install
After the application is installed, change back to execution mode, you can do so by running the following command:
    Change User /Execute

  • Accessing other webpage resources when the Adobe form is oppend in a web app

    Hello,
We have a web application and part of that web page is a PDF form. How can I access the other web page frames contents? For example, if the I update a field inside the form, I want to be able to request the web app to update the other frame in the same web page.
    Is this possible?

Set the display properties to HideMenubar or HideWindowUI either inside the PDF (e.g. with the itext library), or via pdf open params appended to the URL: http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/acrobat/PDFOpenParams.pdf

  • Searching Web Apps with Data Source fields containing multiple values

I have a Web App with a field allowing multiple values to be entered similar to the checkbox list. I need to restrict allowed values to a large, finite list of values currently stored in another Web App as the data source. I can't apply the Data Source field type as that only allows single value selection. I also need to be able to use the Web App Search form to search for items containing 1 OR more values in this field (the search functionality of a checklist field type). Here's what I've tried for field types:
Text (string) or Text (multiline) field type - By saving a list of comma separated values (the same way that checkbox list outputs) to a text input or textarea, the search logic only searches for exact string (including commas) and doesn't parse the individual values.
List (checkbox list) field type - This allows me to search multiple values using OR logic, but the web app will only store values that have been entered as options in the actual web app field setup. I tried using a checkbox list with minimal or empty options hoping that whatever values I sent over in a comma separated string value would still get stored, but because the values came from my Web App data source and not the list of options stored with the field, they were not saved.
Has anyone found a way to do this?
My other question is about how I might use a similar multi-value field as described above but return search results containing items with ALL selected values for that field (AND logic).
Can anyone enlighten me to the inner workings of BC web app search logic?

    Thanks Robert.
You'll need to create your own interface to the webapp database for those kind of data operations
by this, are you speaking of the internal BC database which stores web app schema data? That would be great if it were possible to update that programmatically because I need to use the List (Checkbox List) field type (for the search functionality), but I need to supply the checkbox options from a web app rather than by manually updating the list entered in the Fields view of the web app settings (shown below).
I'm curious if anyone else has tried this?
Again, my reason for needing to use the List (Checkbox List) field type is that the page which processes searches knows to expect a comma separated list for this field type and then appears to be parsing out the individual values for searching out web app items with 1 or more matching values. You're right that text fields (string and multiline) just check for 'string contains' matches, and this would be ok if I was only ever needing to search just one value at a time. Here's an example of what I might do:
Web App item field value (as recorded against the List (Checkbox List) field type:
    8294877,8294878
Web App Search value (for this same field):
    8294879,8294877,8294885
The search would return this web app item because the field contains 2 (1 or more) individual values even though they were entered into the search field in a different order. If this web app item were just a Text (string or multiline) field, the searched value is not a substring of the web app item's stored value, so it would not find a match. Hence the need to use Checkbox List field type.
The web app will have thousands if not 10s of thousands of records, so dumping them all into one big array or object and searching on the front-end won't be practical (though it works great on smaller datasets).

  • In BC how do you display fields between 2 web apps

I have successfully connected two web apps by creating a 1 to 1 relationship between my two web apps Article and Author.
So, when a user is on the details page of my Article, they see the Authors info.
But, now, I need to do the reverse..create a page that displays ALL of the Articles written by a specific Author.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
You actually should set up categories rather then using a custom field like that. Under site settings in the admin, you will see them there.
On a web app item, the button in the top left.. If you click that you will see the classification option.
Once you do that in you can insert web app item lists based on that specific category and the Web app search, can search just for those.
