  • HELP!!!! I've tried to purchase and download a new app only to keep getting the message "can't connect to iTunes store.  It's getting very frustrating!  My Internet is working and I've downloaded apps prior to this one - what is goin on with machine!?!?!

I keep getting an error message "can not connect to the iTunes stores" - what gives.

Microsoft does not currently have a Mac App Store version of Microsoft Office. So any apps that you find in the Mac App Store that sound like those programs are probably helper programs by third-party developers. The only way to get Office for Mac is directly from Microsoft on their website.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't play music from the computer if there is none there. If you are using iTunes Match you should now be able to download and play all your music on the Apple TV from the music feature on the main page.

  • Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?

I'm  using Firefox 3.6.8 (and sometimes IE 8.0.6001.18702IC) on Windows XP Pro, SP 3.
For some weeks now, I have been unable to hear any sounds on anything Flash-based, from YouTube to games at MSN.com or embedded videos on any site using Flash.  Initially I had assumed it to be because of having QuickTime installed because I know QT likes to hijack everything.  I uninstalled QT (and Real Player) and Flash Player then reinstalled Flash Player (and Shockwave Player just in case) and guess what?
Yup.  Nothing.  When I uninstalled everything, I used a program called Revo Uninstaller, which includes a registry cleaning option.  I then used Abexo and WinASO's registry cleaners to make sure I got everything else that even looked like QuickTime off my hard drive.
When I reinstalled Flash, the following programs appeared in C:\Windows\system 32\Macromed\Flash:
    Flash 10i.ocx (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX (10.1.82.76)
    FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.82.76)
    genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.dll (10.1.82.76)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.82.76)
    KB931433
    FlashInstall
    Install
    Flashplayer.xpt
When I check IE's "Tools" and look for add-ons, it says that Flash (Shockwave Flash) is enabled.  I even enabled the other Adobe add-ons for Acrobat and such just to be sure.  Firefox shows Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director both to be enabled.  The Flash control panel settings don't help: I have all sites set to store about 100 KB on my computer to make sure there's enough room for everything but still nothing.
Before anyone asks, my audio drivers are up to date, thanks to the manufacturer's website.  I have DirectX 9.0c installed and everything else works fine.  I can play audio and video elsewhere with no problems.  It's only Flash that's showing me this trouble and there's no hint as to what else could be interfering with Flash.
    Any ideas?

Well, great.  I tried the uninstall/reinstall before, but not with the uninstaller, so I was hopeful that this time might do it.  No such luck.  The video still plays, but no sound.
All the sound settings are working with everything else from games to media players.  I set Windows' firewall to allow both the ActiveX and plugin for Flash, just in case.
In the Flash folder, I now have:
    Flash10l.ocx (10.1.102.64)
    Flash Util10l_ActiveX (10.1.102.64)
    FlashUtil10l_Plugin (10.1.102.64)
    Genuinst (6.0.2800.1531)
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll (10.1.102.64)
    NPSWF32.dll (10.1.102.64)
And the setup and text files that went with 'em.
I've also done a system restart since then and zip.
I went through IE and Firefox and looked for any file associations (like .flv) that I could manually change over to using Flash, but no go.  The settings panels for Flash have all been set to allow YouTube specifically (as a test) and to allow 10KB of storage space for all affected sites.
Now what?  I'm really not looking forward to a reformat and reinstall, but it's looking like that's what it's going to take.

Subject: Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?
Something is strange with your list of modules; you list FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.102.64), but this is really 10.1.85.3
I recommend that you uninstall Flash Player completely (using http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html), then restart Windows, and delete all remaining files in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash.
Next reinstall both ActiveX (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe) and the plugin (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe).
After that, if the problem persists, have a look at this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83739.html

  • What is going on With Windows 7 and all my xp hardware?

Hi, I dont normally ask fro help in forums, as a computor silver surfer user since windows 95, I generally manage to get a resolution by sheer home learning, But Im livid with this new computor i just bought, which i can not get any of my xp components to run or be recognised by this awful windows 7, Im near to taking out the Hard Drive Out and buying a new one, and putting Xp on it.
First off, sorry if bit long winded, but there is two major issues, one non Sound card related, one creative labs one is.
First, can someone tell me, why , when i connected my vertabim 320gig usb external drive, which was connected to my win xp for a year. Windows 7 kept asking me in middle of email,s middle of games, what wanted to do with it's? In the end, i got a message saying do u want to use this drive for nero backup, well, as this is a back up drive, i said yes, imagine my horror, when i found it had changed its name to "Volume drive E;" not F: even worse, all 60 gig of movies built up over 5 years had been completely wiped off? There is nothing left in it now, just a folder calling itself backup. but everything else has been erased. is there a chance its been saved somewhere else in win7?
Second problem, I use Soundbaster audigy cards for a very long time, which has a graphic equalizer in it, which i must have, to enable certain programs like ASIO that need to fine tuned using a graphic equalizer, my last one i bought 3 months ago, after old one packed up, I took it out of the xp computor, and reactivated the onboard xp one, so i can still use it, But once it was put in this new win7 grr computor, my problems started,as soon i restarted after installation at start up i got a runtime error win32 blah blah, which has still not gone away, god knows where that came from. After 3 attempts at instaling the card from the disc all was ok with graphic equalizer too, however next day, Wind 7 decided, I couldnt have it, and everytime i started it to edit a wave with it, it kept telling me no device supporting it !! THEN IT GOT WORSE, it downloaded something called Alchemy, which was a creative update, now i have no graphic equalizer at all now, and terrible tinny sound from my good 2. surround system worse than the inbult one, which was disabled. i have searched and searched, and spent 3 days now, trying to get the software to work , these being the G.E. the eax and bass boost etc. Every Win7 downloads for creative labs audigy card, wether from here or third partys have failed to install the components I must have. I bought and tried some demo graphic equalizers from cows site, None of them interracted with any of them, it was if they werent there, although inputs and outputs was set to the card it found. After spending another 8 hours today trying to sort this, I found other sound cards made by creative on amazon, which i use a lot, to my horror, the only cards that seem to have a G.E. and works with win 7 costs 177!! There is no way im going from a 120 sounblaster to 177 xfi, just cos i need a system graphic equalizer, Im just about to upgrade my photoshop elements 4, to elements 9, cos win7 wont accept the 4.0 version. so that another 155...!!!! i rather take out the whole H/D and buy a new one and reinstall XP. got to be better than paying out 130, its insane!! Notes or comments on how, if at all, I can get this sounblaster audigy G.E to work would be greatly welcome, as would the lost 60 gig of videos from my external drive.
    Cheers mike

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" "behind"  the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message in the inbox.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed individually in the inbox instead of having them "stacked" behind the original message.  I'm afraid I might accidentially overlook messages the way they are handled now.

Somebody here will correct me if I'm wrong, but what you have to do is go into Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars and under Mail, turn off "Organize by Thread".  I think that will make each message show individually.

  • I think my PB G4 is dead, what can I do with hard drive?

I'm convinced my Powerbook G4 17" 1.5GHz OS 10.4 (let's call him "Mr. Dead") has died...maybe you can verify my diagnosis near the bottom.  Since I think he's dead, but I think the hard drive might be fine, I'd like advice on what I can do with the hard drive (for recovering data & looking at how I had the old system setup).
RESOURCES:  I have a new Macbook Pro on order ("MBP"), and access to 2 Powerbook G4 17" 1.67GHz, one running 10.4, the other 10.5.  The G4 10.4 is an sometimes-used system (let's call him "Useful"), and the G4 10.5 is one that's freshly-installed but no one is using currently (let's call him "Idle").
I thought of 2 basic options here.  Bear in mind I'm not a hardware guy.  I've installed RAM, that's it.  Though I expect I can manage to follow online instructions on how to pull a hard drive from a Powerbook.  My main worry is buying the wrong thing, which I think would be easy to do, since I don't know much about hardware tinkering.
SOLUTION 1) Put Dead's hard drive into a Firewire enclosure, then he can at least be a data drive to pull stuff off of.  Would I also be able to boot off of his install?  What do I need to know to buy the right enclosure?  Does anyone recommend any?
SOLUTION 2)  Put Dead's hard drive into one of the other Powerbooks, perhaps only temporarily.  Then I can boot it, look at it, put that Powerbook into Firewire Target Disk Mode, etc.  Will that work?  Is it hard?  Are there any issues with the dissimilarities between Dead and the other Powerbooks (the other 2 are faster chips, and one is already at 10.5)?
Are there pros/cons to solution 1 vs 2?
DIAGNOSIS:  Why I think Dead has died:
He's been acting weird the past 2 days or so, freezing, requiring hard shutdowns.  Then Monday, he wouldn't boot...what I could most often get out of it, after resetting the PMU, is to get the POST to give me 3 beeps (bad RAM).  But I've tried the RAM modules from Dead in the other Powerbooks, and the RAM is fine.
Every once in a while it ALMOST acts like it wants to boot...I get a chime, or a chime with a burst of static, but even then, the hard drive then quiets down, the screen stays black, it goes silent, and the system remains dormant.

My recollection is the bad memory slot issue only affected the 1.5 and 1.67ghz PowerBooks with 15-inch displays. However, BGreg's suggestion of RAM swapping should reveal if it somehow affected a few 17s.
Every once in a while it ALMOST acts like it wants to boot...I get a chime, or a chime with a burst of static, but even then, the hard drive then quiets down, the screen stays black, it goes silent, and the system remains dormant.
That does sound like a dead hard drive but my 17-inch 1Ghz has, like almost every other PowerBook, a dead PRAM battery and they are nearly impossible to find other than as "used/pulled." Sounds like buying used chewing gum to me!
If I let the main battery (which is an original Apple replacement and still good) run down the computer will not start from the A/C adaptor alone. If I hit the start button when the main battery is flat, I get similar noises that you describe but it goes nowhere. If I walk away, leaving the charger plugged in, the computer will boot 5-10 minutes later.
So if your are living with a dead main battery and we accept that nearly every PowerBook has a defunct backup (PRAM) battery, you won;t get far without replacing the battery. Apple no longer sells PB batteries so that throws you into the third-party pool where not all batteries are created equal.
If you want to get an new main battery, I'd try these guys first as they are an established Mac equipment vendor with excellent customer service:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple_laptop/batteries/PowerBook_G4_17
Pricey for a pre-2006 machine that may have a dead hard drive.
One old trick is to turn off the computer, remove the main battery and leave the PB on the A/C unit for 24-48 hours, then reinstall the main battery and try booting. The theory: the backup battery is rechargeable and there is the off-chance that it will get "pumped up" enough during that it will help with the next boot. It's a good step in that the only cost to you is 24-48 hours of time.

I keep getting the message: "what should Firefox do with this file" in Windows XP every time I want to download a file, e.g., adobe, excel, etc. How can this annoying message be deleted? The check box to "open file automatically" does not work!

    cor-el,
Thanks for your prompt reply. However, the sources you gave do not seem to apply exactly to my situation. I have attached some screenshots that show what the dialogue box looks like for a pdf download, and what my settings in the Apps panel of Options are. You will note in the first screenshot that I have checked the box to handle this file type automatically; however, the next time I try to download a file of that type, the same dialogue box appears looking exactly like the one shown, so checking the "automatic" option appears to do nothing. The files to be downloaded from my Gmail messages are not generic or altered file types - they are shown as pdf, doc, docx, etc. So while your intent was good, your post did not help. Thanks anyway.

  • What the **** is wrong with my iMac?

I'm gong to keep this nice and short... I have a memory card reader plugged into a Belkin USB hub which is obviously plugged into my iMac. When ever I put a card into the card reader it will work the first time, but on the next few tries it won't mount on the desktop or show up in Disk Utility. If I keep trying eventually I'll put the card in and the ENTIRE system will lock up (iTunes stops playing, iChat freezes, Finder freezes, EVERYTHING) the mouse still moves but I can't click anything. It's done this twice in the last half hour and 3 times throughout the week. So as the topic says "What the **** is wrong with my iMac?"

maybe its not the iMac but the flash memory instead. It could be the drive is corrupt and the computer is having a tough time reading it. Try erasing and then reformatting it to see if that changes anything

Just in case you would like to have a final try
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • What's the deal with dual processors???

The whole dual processor thing has been bugging me for some time now. If I have a dual 500mhz processor, is it the same as a 1.0ghz processor, worse than one, better than one?! Are there other factors at play? In my limited scope, if you had a dual 500, 533, whatever, it would be the same as a single 1.0ghz - and yet these dual processors are priced much cheaper. I really am at a loss as to how computers do their processing, and how to compare single processor G4's and dual processor G4's when making a purchase.
    Insight would be greatly appreciated!

And you shouldn't forget, the future is multiprocessors. There is a limit to miniturization, and the solution seems to be multiplication. So operating systems and applications are increasingly going to be multiprocessor-aware. Maybe a perfect example is the upcoming MacOS release, Snowleopard. Apparently, there will be almost no cosmetic changes. The changes will essentially be 'under-the-hood'. And you can bet, that some of those changes will be increased efficiency with respect to multiple processors.
So what's the deal with airplane peanu...err, dual processors?
The advantage, theoretically is, having more workers to do the work. Your 1ghz processor is like a worker who can lift 100kg, and your 500mhz are like workers who can lift 50kg each.
So where's the advantage? If you have a farm with 40 kg hay bales in the field that you need to pick up, your better off with two workers than one right? Or 8 workers in the case of a 8-core MacPro. So an multiprocessor-aware operating system, doles out the work much more efficiently, spreading the tasks around, or spreading a single task around in pieces (if the app is so written).
You've heard of render farms? The multiple computers used to render the frames of animated movies? Its the same principle. Having computer 1 render the first 1000 frames and computer 2 the next, the project gets done within a lifetime. If they had had only one computer, ToyStory would still not be finished.
Its the future. Just wait till the end of this year for example. Nehalem chips will be sporting even more processors.

  • What's the deal with Quicktime?

What's the deal with Quicktime? In the past, there was just plain Quicktime. Then it was separated into two different versions: Standard and Pro. I bought the Pro version for my eMac. Then, when I moved to my 24" iMac, Quicktime was made into just one version again, and the features were rolled into it. Now that I have my 27" iMac running Lion, I find that a bunch of the menu items are greyed out and have the word "Pro" next to them. Also, I'm finding that it can't open many standard files, such as .MOV files that run fine on my older Mac, because "a required codec is not available." What's going on?

There are two versions of QuickTime Player available for Snow Leopard and Lion systems. The QuickTime Player X included with those versions of Mac OS X have some of the features previously only available with a Pro key to unlock QuickTime Player 7.
QuickTime Player 7 is an optional installation on SL and Lion, and apparently you installed it or it carried over across an update. If you wish the Pro features activated, you need to enter in your Pro key just as you did previously (you will need a key for QuickTime 7; an older key will not work). Then the Pro features will be available again, though support for some old codecs is no longer available. For more information, see:

  • What's going on with U-Verse in South Miami

For the past two months, we have been getting dropped signals (bundled U-Verse and including landline, mobile phone, television and internet) sometimes three times a day. I have had phone calls drop while speaking to my boss, (I work from home) favourite shows will all of a sudden give us that no service screen, which means we lose portions of the dialogue, and the internet stops working. I have not dared to call ATT as frankly the only solution that Customer Service seems to know is "Oh it must be your RG that needs changing." Well that's a load of rubbish since if it's the RG then ATT have some serious problems as I have spoken to at least six people that I know that also have U-Verse and they are all having the same problem, but kept thinking it was just them.
The internet signal has also got painfully slow and since we pay a juicy bill of $315 dollars a month and subscribe to the best package that U-Verse has to offer, I do not expect to have these constant problems. Nobody is perfect, and a little issue once in a while is acceptable, but not two to three times day! In addition... we receive an electronic bill and this has been a very hectic month for me, so realising that today was the 12th and I know that the bill is usually due sometime around this time of the month, and not having received a bill, I went online to investigate. Sure enough - on login to the payment page, it said "past due!" Well send me a bill and I will pay it. I just don't know what is going on with U-Verse but it is very distressing. I believe the saying is that they have, "Gone to ** in a handbasket." On a positive note - we can now apparently fast forward and rewind On-Demand TV shows, and which made no sense before that this feature was unavailable. However... this does not make up for the recent poor service and non-arrival of my electronic monthly bill, ( will have to go back to paper - not cool) and then having the nerve to tell me "past due."
[Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate].

Chris, As explained, and to be honest I am usually very long-winded and detailed in my explanations because readers miss things, as you might have done in this case. It is not my problem alone. Whenever we have a problem with any utility or especially in the case of ATT services, I always check with anyone that I know that uses the service and over a broad area, not just in my street but anyone I know in an approximate 8 - 10 mile area, to see if our issues are isolated just to us. If they are, then I know that it is most likely a piece of equipment we are using. In this situation, as there have been in others, every single person that I spoke to is experiencing the same situation. And again - this is why I said that I have thrown up my hands in exasperation and usually get another family member to call customer service if there is a problem, as I know exactly what they are going to tell me. "Let us check your line - (you then spend 45 minutes on the phone with them) No... everything seems fine, it must be your RG, you need to buy a new one." Mea culpa - I have no patience or time for scripted c.s. reps.  Two years ago, we had a lightening strike that literally struck the ATT box next door. The wires in all the boxes on the street (including the ones in our yard) were fused and black when the box was opened. And yet... when one of my neighbours (who apparently did not connect the lightening strike with the loss of service - sigh... what can I say...) called ATT, they got the same response. "No, we don't see any problems here, it must be your RG." Com'n! It was a lightening strike!  And on an aside - the new cable is now still hanging from my backyard fence as they were supposed to come back to bury it. Two years ago... So the dear space-cadet neighbours, paid for a new RG, hooked it up to find there was no reception (ya think?) and to then find out that theirs was just fine, and now there was the hassle of having to package the new one and take it to the UPS store to ship it back, and which is another frustration, because it is not possible to return it to a local store or office. Unlike yours truly, they apparently did not do their research with other users, even though we had no service for over a week.  So - by a process of survey and elimination, it cannot be the RG, unless everyone I spoke with is using the same RG. But there have been quite a few changes that we have noticed recently, ranging from new look menus, to those very beautiful images when first turning on the TV. So is it not entirely possible that in all the changes and tweaking, something else has been affected? Look it happens - but I can never understand why they can't just say,"Sorry, we are working on "upgrades" so we apologise but you might experience these little set-backs for a while until we are through." Why always blame it on the RG? Another way to make more money?

  • What does AM do with Attribute Assertions

    Hi,
I am sending Auth statement and atribute statement assertion to AM. AM is accepting the Auth assertion and creating the session, but I am not sure what it does it with Attribute assertion? I want to pass these attributes to next AM. How can I do this. I am looking to fetch these attribues in attributemapper class implementation but not sure how to fetch them from original assertion so that I can pass it on..Does AM store it in SSO Token or what. How can I get those original attribute here.
    Thanks
    Deepak

Got the solution...AM sets these attributes in SSOToken..You can get those by using getProperty() method..make sure that subject of AuthStatement and attribute statement are same otherwise the attribute will not get stored in SSO Token...I modified subject of attribute statement ..so that it matches with that of auth statement nad later in attribute mapper class fetched those attributes form SSO Token and added it to list..so that these attributes can get transferred to next AM.
    Thanks
    Deepak
