What the TOC ?

I have an applet in a signed jar file that requires 1.4 to run.
It is working fine on most macnines - but on a client machine running windows 2000 sp3, IE5.5 it faild to load with the attched stack trace in the trace file.
I don't know what the TOC class is - it is certainly not one of ours.
Thanks for any help,
Mark.

is the chartApplet free? can you tell where to get it?
jarsigner has problems signing classes with non-ascii chars (i used german umlauts in my class names once and this caused the jarsigner to ignore the class files)
check the requirements of the chartApplet. did you forget to include something? (TOC could be Table-of-Contents?)
did you find anything interesting in google about "TOC class" ?
did you try to use another browser on the same machine?

  • What Topics are in the TOC?

    Hi
Silly question I know, but how do I easily find out what
topics are in the TOC. In X5 it was easy, display the topic list,
and then select the TOC tab and the topics in the TOC were
    highlighted.
Since I upgraded to RH7 with it new improved UI!!!!!!!!!! I
can't work out how to do this.

    Hi Tim
You could do this a couple of ways.
    1. Click Tools > Reports > Table of Contents
    or
    2. Click View > Pods > Topic List. Then arrange the
colums so you can see the TOC column.
Note that you may click and drag the column headings to
    rearrange their order.

  • How do I create bread crumbs if I don't want to put all of the topics in the TOC?

    Good Morning
I am trying to figure out how I can create bread crumbs for topics that I do not have in the Table of Contents.  The reason is that if I put all of my topics in the TOC, it will end up a mile long!
I created an alphabet bar, where each of the letters is a hyperlink to a main page with addtional topics on each main page.  For example, if the user clicks 'A' on the alphabet bar, the A List appears with a list of topics that begin with the letter A, like Active Directory.  When user clicks on the Active Directory link, the Active Directory topic appears.  However, when I look in the upper righthand corner for the bread crumb, it goes Home<Active Directory, and skips over the A LIst.  What I want it to look like is Home>Passwords A-Z>A List>Active Directory.
So, in thinking about this, I thought I could somehow manually create the bread crumbs.  But, everything I've read so far has referred to automatic creation of bread crumbs from the TOC, which as I mentioned, would end up making the TOC huge.
I've also looked for other ways to create the navigation bar (rather than using the method I've described above) in the event there is no way to manually create the breadcrumbs.  I have seen what I wanted in another help database but I am completely unable to figure out how they did it.
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
    Karen

    Hi Karen
Unfortunately you will likely end up implementing either a totally manual system (meaning you just add a line at the top of your topic with your breadcrumb trail as you wish to display it, then link as needed) or you will have to resort to some third party solution that isn't part of RoboHelp's features.
You might also take a moment and suggest to the RoboHelp development team that we need some flexibility with this aspect. (Link is in my sig)

  • HT4168 epub: I'd like to create chapters for the TOC but don't want the new chapter to begin on a new page. I'd like it to begin on the same page as the prior chapter. How can I do that?

How can I do this? I currently have my TOC chapters listed as Apples, Oranges, and so on.  But my text chapters begin something like this:
    1
    Apples
    2
    Oranges
I have "Apples" with header 1, "Oranges" with header 1, etc., so that very nicely in the TOC it is listing my topics as the chapters. However, within the body of the document, 1 appears on one page and "Apples" begins at the top of a new page, separated from "1"; 2 appears one one page and "Oranges" appears at the top of the next page (separated from the "2), and so on.
Because of the way the book is structured, I need to have the chapter numbers on a top line and the chapter topic beneath it. (The book is further subdivided, such as 1.3a, 1.3b, etc.)
What I would like is for the TOC to indicate my chapters as Apples, Oranges, etc., but for the chapter text to begin as indicated above.
How can I do this?  Thanks.

Peter, I styled the wording of the chapter title (e.g. apples) with my heading1 styling and my sub-chapter titles were heading2. The text is a different font, different color, different size, different everything.  It seems that the epub program has an automatic format to start a new page with each new header. That's what I'm trying to work around. (Originally I styled both the numeral and the chapter title as "heading 1" and it gave each a different page!)
I am in the process of removing all headers and styling everything manually (which is how it was originally) just to avoid this problem.
I'm having my e-book done through a publisher (this will be self-published), so I'll be giving them a .docx and they'll convert it to .html (filtered) then .epub. so I need something that creates my Table of Contents as I'd like it, without messing up the text of the book.
I can give them a list of what I want in the Table of Contents, and have them manually do it, but the TOC may or may not come out how I want it to come out. My preference is to have something automatic. I wanted the sub-units (heading 2) in the TOC but that will never work since I have over 200 of them and it's too much for them to do manually.  It's a very slow process.

  • I am still having issues with the TOC. I finally got several chapters and sections to show different pictures in the TOC, but have spent hours trying to figure out how to repeat it. This should be so simple. Is there an update? Please help us Apple.

I am still having issues with the TOC pictures. I got several chapter/section photos to show up, but can't seem to repeat this success. It is some mystery that happened during a time that I had practically given up. This should be such a simple thing. Drag and place a picture into the placeholder and it shows up in the TOC....right? Help, help help! want to get this thing done and it's taken two days of work just get some of the photos to show up. I am going to have to publish this ibook with no photos in several sections.....why can't this be simple? I have even had someone else spend hours trying to figure this out. This software is such a GREAT idea....come on...help with this little part of it.

I had the same problem myself. I got to the point where I couldn't replace the photo, of a new chapter, in the TOC. What I did was to duplicate an existing chapter that was working and was able to replace it's TOC's photo. I also found that if you try different areas of the photo you can sometimes get it to replace correctly. For example, instead of dragging the new photo to the middle of an existing photo, try dragging it to the right top corner.

  • My table of contents does not use the entry style I select for words in the paragraph that have character styles applied to them in the chapter, so some of the letters are showing up as green, which is fine in the chapter but not in the TOC.

My table of contents does not use the entry style I select for words in the paragraph that have character styles applied to them in the chapter, so some of the letters, specifically parameters, are showing up green, which is fine in the chapter but not in the TOC. I can manually fix this in the TOC by changing the character style to none after the toc  has been generated, but I don't want to do this.

What application are you running? Please ask this in the forum of the product you're using.

  • Word doc generated from RoboHelp 10 uses "Article" and "Section" as Prefixes in the TOC

I am generating a printed document, specifically a Word document from a RoboHelp 10 project. When I select Use Styles from Microsoft Word Template in the Print documentation Appearance dialog box, the TOC1 heading in the Word document is prefixed with "Article", the TOC 2 heading is prefixed with "Section", and TOC 3 is alpha numbered like this:
    Table of Contents
Article I.          The Protocol Probe 1
    Section 1.01     Welcome. 2
    (a)         About this Guide. 2
    Section 1.02     Product Overview.. 3
    (a)         Contacting Us. 3
Article II.      Install and Configure the Probe 3
Section 2.01     How to Install the Probe. 6
    Section 2.02     Overview.. 7
    Section 2.03     Server Installation. 8
    (a)         Warnings and Cautions. 8
    (b)         Warning: Adherence to Safety and Assembly Instructions. 8
This occurs whatever Word template I specify in RoboHelp. It does not occur if I select the Use Styles From Stylesheet checkbox. It also occurs if I generate a PDF.
When I update TOC in Word the correct numbering and styles I have specified are applied. However, I don’t want to have to do this every time I generate a Word document.
I have tried the following, all with the same result:
Specifying different Word templates in Robohelp
Creating a blank template in Word with minimum styles an specifying this template in RoboHelp
Recreating the TOC styles in Word
Re-installing the style mapping template in Robohelp
Looking thru the default mapping and other RoboHelp templates and CSS to see what might be causing the odd numbering.
I have just installed RoboHelp 10 (no previous version of RoboHelp on system) and have never encountered this problem with any version of RoboHelp before.
I cannot determine if it is Word or RoboHelp, or a combination of both, that is causing the problem.
I know that the prefixes that are generated in the Word TOC are defined by List Templates in Word; however there is no real way to edit these in Word as far as I can tell. As far as I can see, the TOC styles in the Word template do not have any specific numbering specified.
Has anyone encountered this problem before and found a solution? Or does anyone know how RoboHelp specifies the styles for TOC's for Word documents?
I am using Windows XP SP3, Word 2007 and RoboHelp 10.0.0.287.
    Thanks in advance.

RoboHelp will be using the template you selected as per your first post in the thread.

  • Books are not shown in the TOC of the printed document

    Hello,
I am using Robohelp 10. I have a project with several books and topics. When I generate a web help, everything is fine. But now, I have to generate a printed version of it. My problem is that on the table of contents of the generated document, the books are now shown. I need those books to be shown. Please advise.
I can not post the project I am using so I just used a very simple project which I created.
    This is the original TOC.
and this is the resulting TOC in the printed document.
The books should still be part of the contents same with the original TOC.
I do not know what is wring with my set-up since I only used the default one. It will be great if you can reply to me ASAP since we need to publish our help document. Thanks a lot!

OK, the samples are a known quantity and normally generate correctly. Thus we know it is something about your environment, assuming you used the supplied style mapping template?
In the last page of the print dialog, are you using the supplied Rh Style Mapping template?
After generating with whatever you are using, have you tried right-clicking alongside the TOC and choosing Update Field. That might correct the TOC.
What version of Word are you using?

  • How do I get a smartshape button that open the TOC and pause the project when it is selected?

Please help! I created a smartshape button and assigned it the action of making the table of contents visible when clicked. However, now I also need the project to pause when the TOC button is clicked. Can someone please guide in as to what I need to do? Thanks

    Hi,
    Please follow the below steps.
    1) Create an advanced action with the action "Show TOC"
    2) Insert a smart shape and use it as button
    3) Execute the advanced action on success of the shape button.
In the published output, movie will not continue on clicking the shape. Please let me know if it solves your issue.

  • How can I get the TOC to display ALWAYS in a Sans-Serif Font in Linux/Firefox.

I've created my help project in RH9.  When it displays in Linux/Firefox, the fonts in the topics are fine, but the TOC displays in Times New Roman.  Is there a setting in RH9 that I need to use to keep this from happening?

    Hi,
Did you change the setting in the skin? What font have you set for the TOC? Perhaps you set a font that is not available on linux so make sure that you use a web safe font.  For more information on web safe fonts, see http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_websafe_fonts.asp
You can also tinker with your output files. In whthost.js, you can amend the CSS that RoboHelp uses for the TOC. you can add a rule for a sans-serif font the browser can fall back on. See http://www.wvanweelden.eu/webhelp_output_files/whthostjs for more information on the whthost.js file.

  • Topics in multiple places in the TOC

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to insert a topic more than
once in the Table of Contents? This is probably a strange request,
but the problem has occurred because I have imported a manual
written in Word, but part of it contains information already in my
RoboHelp project. I was wondering if I could erase the duplicate
information in favour of linking to what was already there?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Cheers,
    darkagn

Peter's right: the TOC will get synchronized with the first
instance (top to bottom) that it encounters. However, you can use
redirect pages to get around this.
    1. Create a new topic (and name it
target_topic_name_redirect.htm as a visual cue for yourself). Make
the Title the same as the target topic's title (which is the name
that will appear in the TOC).
    2. Remove all text from the topic in WYSIWYG mode (leaving a
    blank page).
    3. In TrueCode, add this line to the other META tags (in any
    spot).
    <meta http-equiv=refresh
    content="0;URL=directory_path/target_topic_name.htm ">
    4. Drag and drop the redirect page to the desired TOC
    location.
Hint: The 0 (zero) is the duration time (none) that this
topic will display before redirecting to the target topic. If you
prefer to make this redirect available to the viewer, you can
increase it to, say, 8 or 10, and provide some text such as
"Retrieving this topic from the 'Configuration' section. Please
    wait a moment."
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • I cannot find the "Add Paragraph Style" option in the TOC inspector

The Help Center under "Customize the table of contents" indicates that I can add a paragraph style to the TOC items list. However, when I follow the instructions on the help screen and click the "Add" pop-up menu, I can only add back one of the sections I have already removed. There is no option to add a paragraph style.

For that choice to show, I believe it depends on which template (with which TOC type) you've selected. Some provide it and some don't.
Create a new book and choose the 'Modern Type' template, then complete the same steps and you should be able to see what Help is referring to.

  • Levels in the TOC?

How many numbering levels are supported in the TOC?
In portrait author mode I can see my TOC taking shape as I add Chapters, Sections, and Headings.  Within a Section I now have several TOC entries which I have defined with Heading 1, and these are listed with numbers such as 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 etc where the 2 is the Section and the .3, .4, and .5 are the paragraphs delineated by headings.  But can I create TOC entries as 2.3.1; 2.3.2; 2.3.3?  I don't seem to be able to do so, though I can create indented paragraphs and bulleted lists, and headings defined as Heading 1 or Heading 2 style - however each heading is listed in the TOC as though it were at the same level of indent (for numbering purposes) as every other...
For a well-formatted TOC I need more levels than appears to be supported.  Is there any way to achieve this?
ps: Apple - a proper manual would be nice...  I lost a week on this project because the TOC behaves differently in landscape and portrait modes, and landscape is the default so the TOC appeared not to work as described.  I even reported it as a bug, though of course feedback just disappears into a black hole...  Really, Apple, there is no substitute for a good manual - achieving reasonable productivity depends on it...

It appears to be impossible to do what you want. While you can add any paragraph style to the TOC, there is no way to specify at what level that style should appear. So, if you add Heading1, Heading2, Heading3, Heading4, they all appear at the same single heading level underneath the chapter level, which is useless, of course.
    Michi.

  • Change the TOC contents using parameters via URL

Is it possible to change what topics can turned on and off by passing a parameter via the url.  At the moment, when I use a conditional tag, everything that is not in the "excluded" column will show up in the final WebHelp.  But I would like to control what topics in the TOC show up based on a parameter.  Is that possible?

    Hi there
Unfortunately RoboHelp makes no provision for that. About the only way you could make it happen would be to create as many permutations as you need. For example, let's say you need six different TOC layouts. You would need to create six different WebHelp outputs and store each output in a separate folder. Each of the TOCs would be different. You would then link to the desired WebHelp output.
There is another way you might accomplish it. You could create multiple projects and gather them together using a Merged setup. You could then control what appears in the TOC by restricting access to the folders where the Merged Projects are placed. If the master TOC cannot find the folder for a Child, it will not display the Books and Pages for the Child.

  • Listing Graphics in the TOC...?

    Hello-
I am very new to FrameMaker and have only been working with it for a few weeks now.
My company is using FrameMaker 10 to create a User Manual for one of our products.  This is a large PDF document with multiple chapters.  We are creating each chapter as a separate FrameMaker document and then compiling the entire group of chapter documents into a book with a table of contents (TOC) when creating the final version of the PDF.  We are, however, having a problem with the creation of the TOC which can be better explained via the figure below.
The first page of each chapter has a banner graphic (portable network graphic) across the top of it which has the chapter number and the subject of the chapter as text within the graphic itself.  Since this information is part of the graphic itself, it is not being detected by FrameMaker when the TOC is being generated and is therefore not being included in the TOC of the User Manual PDF.
The Paragraph and Sub-Paragraph text IS detected and listed in the TOC.  However, since the chapter title is only represented in the PDF with a graphic, the TOC will skip from listing the last Sub-Paragraph title of the previous chapter and then jump directly to the first Paragraph title of the next chapter.
    Question:
How can we continue to represent our chapter titles with graphics (preferred by management) but somehow have the beginning of a new chapter and its title represented in the TOC when the PDF is generated?

Remember, there are two types of text frames. If you ctrl+click to
select the small frame you are using on the master page, then
right-click and choose Object Properties, you can tell that the frame
you are using is a background frame by looking in the "Tag" field (which
will be empty). When the Tag field is empty, the text frame is a
background text frame. Any content put in such a frame WILL show up on
the body page, but if I remember right, it will NOT show up in TOCs.
If you ctrl+click to select the large text frame on the master page, and
then right-click and select Object Properties, you will see that there
is probably a Tag setting of "A." This means that this frame is in flow
A on the body page. Type text in that frame and you will see that it
does NOT show up on the body page. Text frames with a flow tag are
merely placeholder frames for the body page. And content placed into the
text frame on a body page CAN be picked up by the TOC.
Since it appears that your goal is to make that graphic wider than the
main text frame, it looks like you want to do something a little
different than what you first showed as an example and what I described.
    Try this:
    1. Create a new master page (Special> Add Master Page). A dialog box
will pop up. Since this is going to be the first page in a chapter and
is unique in style from typical right and left pages, name it First and
choose an "Initial Page Layout" of "Empty." (Don't use the Left or Right
master pages for custom master pages as they are the pages FM
automatically inserts when you type enough text to require
autogeneration of a new page. You can, of course, alter the design of
Left and Right master pages if you want.)
    2. Using the graphics toolbar (View> Toolbars> Graphics Toolbar ), click on the Text Frame Tool and then draw a text
box on your new "First" master page. Make it big enough to hold your
chapter graphic. A dialog will pop up. Choose "Template for Body Page
Text Frame" with a Flow Tag of A. Click the Add button. You now have one
text frame on your page. (You probably noticed that the other choice was
to set the frame for "Background Text," which is not what we want this
    time.)
    3.  Since you want the text frame for your main text to be narrower, we
will now draw a second, narrower text frame on the same page. So click
on the Text Frame Tool again, and draw a second text frame on the page
at the size you want. A dialog box will pop up. Again, choose the
"Template for Body Page Text Frame" with a Flow Tag of A. Click the Add
button. A notification should pop up that "The new text frame has been
connected to the end of flow A." This means that, though there are now
two boxes on your screen, they flow as one. There should be a section
sign in the upper left corner of the first frame, but nothing in the
second frame.* When you type enough text into the first frame, it will
flow into the second frame automatically. (Remember, though, we are
working on a master page. You will insert your actual content on a BODY
page. So don't put anything in the text frames now.)
If there is a section marker in both frames, something went a little
wrong, but can be fixed. Ctrl-click the first frame, then ctrl-click the
second frame. Both should be selected. Then choose Format> Customize
Layout> Connect Text Frames and the second section marker should disappear.
    4. View> Body Pages to move back to the body page. Since this is the
first page in the book and content has not been added, you should be
seeing a Right page. So use Format> Page Layout> Master Page Usage and
choose Custom and First to assign your new master page format to this
    page. Click Apply.
    5. Now you can type your chapter title into the first text frame and
assign your ChapterTitle paragraph format to it. Make sure the "Space
Below" setting for the format in the Paragraph Designer is large enough
that, when you press a carriage return at the end of the line, it moves
that section marker down into the second text frame.
    6. Now you can import your graphic. Click OUTSIDE** the text frames and
choose File> Import> File, then locate your graphic and click the Import
button. The graphic will appear in the middle of the page. Click and
drag it to where you want, to where it will cover the chapter title that
you typed. You may be done, but if you can still see the chapter title
that you typed, there is one more step. (Because the graphic ended up
behind the type instead of on top of it.) With the graphic still
selected, choose Graphics> Bring to Front. Done!
**When importing the graphic for this step, it is important not to click
within the text frame before you import the graphic because that will
place the graphic in an anchored frame and it will be harder to get it
to hide the typed text. The method I described makes the graphic float
on the page as a separate entity, a bit like stuff put in a background
text frame on the master page. Note also that this technique doesn't
usually work elsewhere in a document, since you usually want a graphic
to move along with associated text, when more text is added. The method
I described above does not allow the graphic to shift.
    7. Any further text you type should appear in the second text frame, and
