What to do against QFS metadata lag?

I am using Sun QFS as shared cluster filesystem for a farm of content upload servers (Aspera).
When testing the failover functionality, I found out that files written on one cluster node sometimes take 1-2 minutes until they show up on the other nodes.
This is rather unacceptable as I can't predict on which node the restarted connection will hit, and thus I end up with an awful lot of inconsistent files.
e.g. I create a new file "test.txt" on one note, and write some text into it.
One of the other nodes does not show the new file in 'ls' at all,
another node shows it in 'ls', but a cat on it returns &#%@^} random foo instead of the real content.
Then I wait a minute, and the file is visible on all nodes and cats correctly.
I have mounted the FS according to the whitepapers with the sync_meta option, but this did not change anything.
qfstransfer - /transfer samfs - yes rw,stripe=1,shared,bg,*meta_timeo=0,sync_meta=1*
Are there any useful methods to further tune the metadata synchronization between the cluster nodes and the MDC?
I wouldn't mind losing a few percent of throughput due to additional metadata traffic, as long as it ensures better consistency.
The cluster nodes are Solaris 10 x86 on HP Blades, the MDC is Solaris 10 sparc on a T5220, currently running QFS 4.6.3, but soon upgrading to 5.x

    Hi there,
I am not sure if it is necessarily a bug, but its a matter of understanding all of the settings needed. I had the same problems for a while but after a fair bit of trial and error have found some workable settings.
It probably has more to do with the export settings rather than what viewer options have selected (I don't think that viewer settings affect your export).
What program are you using to export?
I am using compressor to export with aspect ration set to automatic 16:9. Then use DVDSP with the track set to 16:9 letterbox, it seems to export to DVD with the correct aspect ratio that way.
I am having trouble with the image strobing, looks like some kind of interlacing problem, but at least I have got it in the right aspect ratio.
Its typical video, solve one problem and it just creates another.
I am yet to find the absolute best workflow.
In response to Andy above, the original letterboxed footage probably did have something to do with the downconverting settings on the camera, as when I import without downconverting it does not letterbox. In the HDR-HC1 there is an option in the menu called "TV Type" with options of 4:3 or 16:9. I was reviewing my footage on a 4:3 television so I most likely had it set to 4:3 which created the letterboxing in the viewer when I then imported the footage.
Importing the footage in HDV solves the issue of aspect ratio, but creates a new problem with the image strobing.
I hope this was some kind of help to you.

  • What is mean by word "metadata" in terms of  Web Dynpro ABAP

    Hi All,
I am new to Web DynproI searched the old posts but not able to find the answer.
..I  need clarification regarding  word "metadata" in terms of Web Dynpor ABAP.
There is a concept called "Web Dynpro MetaModel"  in this what exactly "MetaModel" means.

    hi, channappa.
Very sorry that cann't get what you want?
Anyway, Metadata is the "data" describing the "data".The most easly understanding example is the "Table": "data" is the real records saved in the table, the "meta data" is the data describing the table,i.e the attribute,fields,etc..
In WD, for example, the Context..The value which is saved in the memory by Context node/attribute, we can call them "Data", yet the data which we can get runtime(for example, the context node or attribute), maybe we can call them Meta data to some extent.
I don't this can fit your confusion.
Very glad to discuss with you.
    Best wishes.

Should we install metadata in a separate database or in application database? I am looking for experts advise, also throw any links on requirments of having a schema in application database when we install metadata in its own database..Trying to understand what is the role of additional schema in application database (fyi, this schema gets created when you register the application database).

  • What does "Include develop settings metadata inside JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files" do?

I am wondering what the option "Include develop settings metadata inside JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files" found in catalog settings/metadata does?  what happens if you uncheck it?

    Bob12312321 wrote:
also when this is unchecked will lightroom still save keyword changes to raw(nef) files?  thank you!
Metadata ("real" metadata like keyowords nor develop adjustments) are never saved into non-DNG Raw files (like .nef, .cr2) directly. With these files, there is always a so called sidecar file (with the extension .xmp) created to hold the XMP information.
And yes, if the option is unchecked, LR will save the keywords to the XMP sidecars, when you perform "Write Metadata to File" or have the autowrite option active.

  • What should i do if it lags really bad with no apps opened up?

So i was just having a ordinary day at a ordinary time. Usually it wont lag much, only lags when i play games and stuff. But that day. I came home. Opend up my mac. And there i was gonna edit my vids in movie11 when i cant click or anything. It just has the pringy spinny rainbow thingy. So i was liek thats wierd. So i closed it. Then i try to open up youtube. I cant. It just lags too much. I repair my disk. I thought it would fix it. No dice. The lag is there. And i realised there is something that is clogging up my RAM. So i checked Activity Monitor. Nothin. There is nothing unusual. I dont know what to do. If this post dosent work. Ill just have to go to the Apple Store.

Have you tried creating a new login ID that has no login items associated with it, to see if any login programs are causing severe system lags? You would do that through System Preferences.
How much free disk space do you have? You want 10% to 15%, or more, of it free for systems usage.

  • What component to upgrade for brush lag

i mostly use photoshop for digital painting. when i use a complicated brush type it lags badly.
what do i need to upgrade to resolve this.
    specs
    i5 3570k 4.5mhz
    8gb 1800mhz ddr3
    gtx 670
    256gb ssd

Your hardware is sufficient. Update your drivers and configure them accordingly. Other than that "complicated brush type" could imply large brushes with lots of randomization and pressure sensitivity options and well, some of that stuff may just take a whiel to calculate. You wouldn't see any difference even on the latest core7i oir whatever then...

  • WHAT TO DO IT MAC STARTS LAG AND RUNNING SLOW??

    please help me!
    thanks

Hard drive space and memory are two different things.
When your Mac slows down, it could be because there isn't enough free disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk
MIght also be a good idea to check the startup disk in case it needs repairing.

  • What are the forensic limitations of Metadata & Exif Data+ Adobe Photoshop 3 question; e.g. Metadata

    I have some questions regarding metadata, and exif data on digital   cameras and its forensic limitations in Adobe photoshop 3;
For  instance; After a picture is taken and has a metadata/exif digital   stamp of the "picture being taken day" under what circumstances can  that  "picture being taken day" be changed?
Does the picture  being taken day change when you import it into adobe  photoshop 3 and  add a caption?
Does it change only when the picture is edited,  to perhaps add a white  sidebar that says "family photo" or whatever?
Under what circumstances does the exif/metadata digital time stamp  of  the "picture being taken day" change?
Also, is it possible  to change the picture being taken day on a  photograph in adobe  photoshop 3 manually?
    Thanks-
    Phil

I guess it would be easier to give you an example. The above picture shows the exif data as 9.11.2001. How is this possible if this is a 911 victim? In the top metadata, it says Adobe photoshop 3. I assume this is the program it was last edited in? Or was adobe software used exclusively in cameras back then perhaps? I am not sure, I just know I have many questions I really want answers to. Was the exif data changed perhaps in the above photo on 9.11.2001 to add that white sidebar, which says (Family photo) ?? Click the image below to see the screenshot of what I am looking at, this way we are on the same page or picture so to  speak.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciatted...
    Thanks,

  • What changed with metadata in Acrobat 9?

We use Web crawlers to automatically post PDFs to our Plumtree portal. The crawlers read custom metadata that we add to the PDF and use it to categorize the PDFs.
With all previous iterations of Acrobat, this process has worked fine. Now that I've switched to Acrobat 9, however, the crawlers cannot read any of the metadata, whether it's custom fields or standard fields like Title.
Does anyone know what might have changed regarding metadata with Acrobat 9?

Hello. I am also looking for an answer to this question. I use an older DAM program (Canto Cumulus V5) to file and categorize pdf files. It used to be able to read the metadata from pdf's but since I upgraded to Acrobat version 9 it no longer reads the metadata. Can anyone point Rick and I to the right solution? Thanks.

  • What it the upper limit on metadata entries supported per metadata file in a file sync provider ?

    Hi All,
I understand, Microsoft file sync provider metadata file is nothing but a Microsoft CE database, which cannot grow beyond 4GB. I also came to know that this metadata file is nothing but entries (aka details) of the files in the file system.
Does anyone know, how many entries would this knowledge file could contain considering only file additions ? (forget about updations and deletion tracking).

    have a look at this
sample file sync provider for blob store, this should give you an idea of what's actually stored as metadata.

  • Keywords, Include on Export, Save Metadata to File, and SmugMug???

My workflow and issue (LR 5.7 and SmugMug plugin 2.1.10):
    1) I import RAW files as DNGs
    2) I do various Lightroom stuff, plus add Keywords. Some of the keywords do not have "Include on Export" checked. Some of my keywords are part of hierarchies that have "Export Containing Keywords" checked. And some of keywords have synonyms.
    3) Once I am all done with a file, I select "Save Metadata to File"
    4) Then I publish to SmugMug using the SmugMug publish service.
    5) The SmugMug website shows keywords which I did not intend to be included on export, it does not show the complete hierarchy for those keywords that should, and none of my synonyms show. I noticed this is the same way the keywords were saved to the DNG when I view the file in Bridge.
    6) When I export the file to a file on my desktop and check the metadata with Bridge, the Keywords all export correctly.
All of this behavior makes sense, I guess, but I cannot figure out what to do about it. Should I not bother to "Save Metadata to File", this seems to be what is messing up the SmugMug publish service? Is the SmugMug publish service behaving correctly? I would have expected it to behave like an export which would write synonyms, exclude keywords that should be excluded, etc, which seems to work ok in point 6 above. Are the publish services more effort than they are worth? So I get SmugMug to work, what happens when I try Flickr? I hate to stop "Save(ing) Metadata to File(s)", since that seems like a nice hedge against db corruption and the next time I decide to try a whole different image database.
Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps someone with direct experience with publishing to Smugmug will chime in.  Short of that, some thoughts on your issues:
Should I not bother to "Save Metadata to File", this seems to be what is messing up the SmugMug publish service?
I very much doubt that it is messing up the publishing.  What gets saved to the file from the catalog is independent of what gets exported.  Saving metadata to the file is generally a good practice (in case you screw up your catalog backups).  Many, perhaps most, users set the preference Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
I would have expected it to behave like an export which would write synonyms, exclude keywords that should be excluded, etc, which seems to work ok in point 6 above.
    Yes, that's a reasonable expectation.
You may have done this already, but double-check: Right-click the Smugmug publishing service in the left-hand column of the Library, select Edit Settings, and in the Metadata section verify that you have Include: All Metadata set.
Did you download the Smugmug plugin from Smugmug? You might try this Smugmug plugin instead -- the author designed the publishing architecture of LR and has an excellent reputation.
Are the publish services more effort than they are worth? So I get SmugMug to work, what happens when I try Flickr?
I think many users find the publishing services are generally worthwhile.  I publish regularly to Flickr (using the built-in Flickr plugin, which isn't completely reliable) and the Zenfolio plugin from Friedl.

  • What is the cause of a null username in sys.aud$

I have two records in sys.aud$ with a null username. They are a logon and a alter user. What does that mean? Was it a connect / as sysdba?

I found your other post in the JDBC forum, and I now understand what you're trying to do. Off the top of my head, I see no solution, other than parsing all the column names sent into the PreparedStatement against the MetaData about the table(s), views, what have you.
Other than that, you would have to add a third arraylist of column types, but that makes calling the functions more difficult.
Lastaly, and not a good option even if it worked, some vendors have extensions off of JDBC (e.g. Oracle). You can cast sql objects into their objects, and they may provide a generic setNull, dont' know, haven't looked, just thought of it as a possiility. Of course, then you're not pure JDBC anymore.....
We'll see if anyone else has any ideas.
