When I first set up my ipad2, I think I set it up so everything is saved with icloud.  Does that mean I have to have a wi-fi connection to hear songs and watch whatever I saved?

I just got a new iPad2 wi-fi.  This is the first Apple product that I have ever owned.  When I did the initial set up, I think I checked the box to use icloud.  Does that mean that everything will now need to have a wi-fi connection in order for me to view or listen to it.  I want to listen to music and play games while on an airplane.  So does this mean that anything that I've saved will only be available to me with a wi-fi connection?  If so, is there a way to change it back so that everything is saved directly to the device so I can have access to it when no wi-fi is available?

no.. you can listen to the music, play movies and games without worry if not connected to the wifi.

  • If I set up the ICloud, does that mean that all of my songs will be stored in Icloud? can I delete the library from my PC and only choose what playlists I want on PC?

If I set up the ICloud, does that mean that all of my songs will be stored in Icloud? can I delete the library from my PC and only choose what playlists I want on PC?

    Thank you
    I realize they are separate
I will do music match so that all of my songs are in ICloud
Do I need to keep the library on my PC or can I download whatever playlists I want stored on the device at that time.
Example: I have almost 1G of Christmas Music - because it is on my PC in my llibrary they sync to my ipod touch every time - i really want those stored somewhere else so they do not sync [or take space on my pc] with exception to one month per year.
I am thinking I can create space on my PC and Touch by storing songs on icloud that i do not listen to regularly; I am also thinking I can request songs by playlist to download to my touch or PC
Is that a clearer question or am I just confusing myself??

    Hello there, Shellywms09.

  • If i download windows with bootcamp does that mean i can still use Macintosh and if so how

if i download windows with bootcamp does that mean i can still use Macintosh and if so how

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you installed Windows properly, you can still start in OS X and use it whenever you want. However, Boot Camp changes the startup partition to Windows, so you may note that you can't use Mac OS X.
There are two ways of starting in OS X:
    1. Hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting until you see all the bootable partitions in the screen, and choose your OS X partition.
    2. Hold the X key while your computer is starting.
If you have a iMac or a Bluetooth keyboard, make sure you hold the key after hearing the startup chime.
If you want to start in OS X by default, after starting in OS X, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose the OS X partition

  • Can I retrieve my notes that I accidentally deleted? I noticed that my notes are not clicked "on" under icloud does that mean info isn't saved?

I accidentally deleted the notes from my note app. I sync it again but nothing happened then realized on my phone that notes isn't clicked to "on" under icloud. Is there any way to retrive the info?

If you had activated the option to save notes at some point in the past you might be able to restore from that backup, if it is still listed in iCloud. If you had never selected that option your data is gone, sorry.
How to restore from a backup
When you go through Setup Assistant on a new device using iOS 5 or later, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose from which backup to restore.
If the home screen icons appear on your device and you wish to restore from an iCloud backup, erase your device (by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). When prompted to set up as new or to restore from previous backup, select Restore from iCloud Backup. Enter your AppleID and password when prompted.

  • My mac pro is not a duo processor so i cannot upgrade to LION and that means now with icloud i cannot receive email unless i go directly to icloud website to get it.  i cannot afford to buy a new laptop, does that mean i will always have this inconvenienc

Do I have to buy a new duo processor lap top to continue getting my email using my mac.com address?  Do i have to give up my mac.com email address and go to another provider?

It's the System which counts rather than the hardware. Your signature says you have 10.6.8. You can migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud at http://me.com/move even with Snow Leopard - when asked to confirm that you have Lion on your Mac, just lie and say 'yes'.
If you have MobileMe mail set up to collect mail from external POP accounts you should cancel this before migrating, or you may find it still working in iCloud (where it isn't supposed to) and with no way of stopping it. You may find the MobileMe email settings will continue to work for a time after migrating but it will stop eventually so you should not rely on this. You should delete your MobileMe email account from Mail.
You can then set up Mail manually in Snow Leopard to access iCloud email; it's a slight fudge because the 'wizard' will attempt to connect you to MobileMe as soon as you enter an @me.com address. The process, which includes a workaround for this, is described here:

You may be able to sync your calendars to iCloud by means of an unsupported hack, and there is a convoluted hack which has been reported as working for Address Book (and as not working by others - I've not tried it), but iCloud's other facilities will not work. This page outlines the situation when you migrate to iCloud, including a link to the calendar hack:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/icloudSL.html
There are a couple of third-party solutions which may be of interest.
BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion. A single user licence (two machines allowed) is $49.99.
Soho Organizer can sync Calendars and Contacts with iCloud on Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion. A single user licence (multiple machines allowed) is $99.99.
(I have no connection with either firm.)

  • I just got a new Nano and I synced to itunes.  My computer tells me to eject before disconnecting but when I try, it says I shouldn't because the files are in use by another application.  What does that mean?

    Can someone please help me?

There may be a background application running that accesses mounted volumes.  The iPod storage "disk" is a mounted volume.  For example, this applicaiton may be something that monitors for data corruption or malware ("viruses").  If you know of such an application that you have running, and it has settings that allow you to ignore particular volumes, set it to ignore the iPod's disk.
Alternately, if you use automatic syncing (instead of the manual method) to load the shuffle, turn OFF the Enable disk use setting (unless you actually use the iPod as a storage disk).  With disk use NOT enabled, iTunes only mounts the iPod's disk when syncing.  At other times, the iPod's disk is unmounted.  Therefore, "other" applications cannot access the iPod's disk and make it "in use."  Because the iPod's disk is not mounted (unless iTunes is syncing), you can actually disconnect the iPod without clicking the Eject button.

  • HT4972 It says iTunes will not back up games, apps, etc.  Does that mean they will be lost?  I have iPad 2, and would like to get iOS 6.  Can I do that?  Right now it is iOS 4.  If I can get 6, do I have to go to 5 first?

I would like to upgrade my iPad to iOS 6.  It is currently iOS 4.3.5.  Can I do that?  The article from apple says iTunes will not back up games, apps, etc.  Does that mean I will lose them?  Some of them I paid for and don't want to lose.

Yes you can upgrade from 4.3.3 to 6.0.
Your media - apps, games, music, photos, and so are not included in the backup. Your app data, settings, and many other things are included in the backup. After you update the iPad, you should sync with iTunes in order to put all of that content back into the iPad.  This is what I recommend doing - I do it myself every time I update my iPads, or iPod Touch.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.

  • I bought an ipd shuffle for my daughter. I have old songs from frostwire that I downloaded on the shuffle.  When I try to play the songs, I get "Please use Itunes to sync music".  What does that mean?

I bought an ipod shuffle and downloaded old limewire songs onto it. The ipod says "Please use itunes to sync music".  What does that mean? Do I have to download from Itunes only?  thanks,  Jester

    Dear jester,
Apple created iTunes to try and stop piracy, and if you look at the lime wire site, it says they were shut down for piracy.
You will have you buy all the music through iTunes or you can download music to iTunes from a CD.
    I hope this help you.

I sent an email to a government agency and got a message back that said I was a spambot.  What does that mean?

Unfortunately you have  inadvertently become aware that you are in fact a non- human. You are in reality a Bot. Please report to your closest Apple store. Tomorrow everything will be ok and you will once more believe you are human. P.S.  Do not send emails to goverment agencies again you silly Spambot.

when syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.  Ipad does not show up in itunes even though cable plugged in.  Have shut down and restarted Windows 7 computer.

I had done all of that to no avail.  I did call Apple Tech Support and after he suggested I try a USB port in the rear of the Win 7 computer, things starting working again.  I had tried switching the USB port at the front of the machine but that had not helped.  Everything is good to go again.  thanks for  your reply

Next thing I know his ipod has been wiped and we can't find his music. How do we get his music back? He hasn't got his laptop anymore so the only music he has was on his ipod.

Hasn't he got a backup of his content on external drives and/or CDs or DVDs ?

What do you mean by storage quota, does that mean i could be photo streaming about 1gb of photos and it does not get taken away from my free 5bg.
