When I open Firefox, 'Restore Session' comes up, but it's blank: none of my tabs are actually in the window, and 'restore session' isn't clickable in that window or under 'History'. This happens every time now, whether it's 80 tabs or 2. What's happened?
I'm on an HP laptop, using Firefox 7.0.1; the first time this happened I'd had to hard-shutdown and restart. I don't clear my history on closing or anything. No new plugins.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

I had 2 iPhone 3G's, one of them screwed up and wouldn't recieve service. Up until then when I backed them up to my computer all was good, then one of them would update and all but a screen would pop up and tell me it couldn't back up to my computer. Recently I replaced the bad tele with an iPhone 4 and it does the same thing while the other iPhone 3G still backs up fine.......What up!!! Help please. Don't wanna lose my info..
I banged my head on the wall with the same problem for two days. Tried everything mentioned, and this worked, finally. The problem is that the backup files are not where you think they are.
You need to delete the MobilSync backup folder. I have a Mac. Went to /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and deleted the Backup folder.
Fixed the problem. Give it a try and good luck! -

Everyday when I open Firefox a msg comes on the screen that says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox ASAP. When I try to install, it will not connect to the connecting server so it just clocks forever.
See:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
I recently had a virus attack and have cleared them with Malwarebytes Anti-malware. This problem didn't happen before the attack. In addition to happening when I open Firefox, occasionally an unwanted ad will pop-up in a new tab while using Firefox.
Firefox can store multiple home pages, check to make sure that the ad site is not listed as a home page. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.
You should run a scan with some other scanners to ensure that malwarebytes did not miss any. Some scanners you can try are:
* [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
* [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Lavasoft Ad-Aware]
* [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Spybot-S&D]

I would like to delete the "inbox" screen from coming up when I open Firefox. I might help if I could speak with a person.
Hello BassoonPlayer,
Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using. FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in. This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly. By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you. Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

Firefox will open and then "freeze" (Says Firefox not responding). Have to attempt to close from lower bar and then get message from Windows - options
1. close window now
2. windows will search for the reason
When I click on either option I have to wait "magically" Firefox will "pop" alive. May stay responsive for full session or may again "not respond" when I try to access another site.I have also found that unchecking the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option solves this issue. This option is in the Advanced section, under the General tab.

There are two separate desktops on this computer, one for me and one for another user. Her Firefox is not affected. I have looked everywhere for this second copy supposedly running but I don't see how it can be because I have shut down all programs several times.
There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]].

I have repeatedly checked my settings for Firefox to go to my home page when opened. Instead it opens my last pages opened. I have the most current version of Firefox. This has been going on for about a week.

I keep receiving this error every time I open LR, "Lightroom encountered and error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and the app won't open. It said LR would try and fix this error next time I opened it but the error remains. I tried uninstalled and installing the app and the error remains. I have windows 8. Can anyone please help???
Use Windows Explorer to open the folder containing your catalog. The normal location is Pictures\Lightroom. Locate a folder with the extension .lrdata and delete that folder. Then you should be able to start Lightroom again, and Lightroom will begin building and new previews folder. Do not delete anything else.

I just downloaded the new version of Firefox (ver 4). Now when I open Firefox I get the address bar but the information part of my screen is blank. This happens on all web sites. How do I fix this? IE works fine.
Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

Recent activite comes up when I open firefox?
When I open firefox the recent website I was on comes up. I just want yahoo to be my homepage and open whenever I launch firefox. How can I fix it?
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

When it is just my desktop on the screen, the taskbar is at the bottom as usual. Now when I open Firefox, the taskbar disappears. This just started yesterday. I'm running Windows XP on this laptop. Any suggestions on how to correct the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Have you got Firefox's menubar displaying if so turn that off using
* View -> Toolbars -> [] Menu Bar
That may restore the Orange Firefox Button. Post back as to whether that works.
I do not use Vista, but it seems odd that only Firefox should make the Vista taskbar disappear. You would do better to post your own question in a new thread. -
Intrusive music now occurs when I open firefox. How do I stop it?
I have been using Firefox for a long time, and now use it on Windows 8 with a 64 bit processor.
This morning, 28 January 2014, I found that when I opened Firefox, I heard unknown, intrusive, repetitious music that I could not stop, although it stopped itself when completed. Searching for a solution in the Help resoiurces, I failed to find one. I therefore uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it. However, the music still comes on. I am at a loss as to what to do to remove it.It sounds like an add or a game you had played.
'''''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]'''''. If it stops, it could be an add-on.
