When I roll over each link on a web page, the url appears in a white box at the bottom of the browser window. How do I stop this annoying thing?

I am using a Mac. OS 10.6.3

The easiest way is to use the Status-4-Evar add-on. With it you can choose to not display any of the status messages or URL hover previews, or display them in the add-ons bar or location bar instead.

Sometimes when I click on a website link, Firefox goes crazy with trying to open new tabs... it keeps going until I force quit. How can I stop this?

See [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]
You can have infinite tabs opening if you have selected Firefox as the application to handle a file if you get an ''Open with'' download window.
Firefox should not be selected as the application to handle a file and you have to remove the action that is associated with that file type.
You can delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/mimeTypes.rdf mimeTypes.rdf] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to reset all actions or set that action in Tools > Options > Applications to 'Always Ask'.

Is this any link in any page, or one particular link in a particular page?

On the device you do not want the auto downloads to be installed on: Settings/iTunes & App Store. Deselect what you do not want to be automatically downloaded.

  • When I click on a link within a Web page, Firefox just spins until I reload the new page.

When I enter a new URL or select a bookmark, Firefox loads the page promptly. When I click on a link within that page to go to another page, the Firefox tab green spinner often just spins and spins. It either takes a very long time to load (2 or more minutes), or never finishes loading. It's usually a greater problem when I "Open a link in a new tab". I can usually make the new page appear by reloading, either clicking the red X and the circular arrow, or Ctrl-F5, etc.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • When I CLICK on a link on a web page, firefox dos lot load the page in a new window. All other browsers load the page under the link. I do not have "Block poups enabled".

When I navigate to a web page that has a link, such as the link to a data sheet and click the link (usually an insert page), firefox does nothing.

Does the new window have a media player in it or use the Flash plugin for any other purposes? If so, it could be the protected mode bug described in this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash]. There are some workarounds listed there.
Let us know whether that helps.

  • I installed 4Sync on my computer, and it resets my browser constantly. Even when I set my browser back to FireFox Start Page it just switches it back the next time I open a browser. How can I stop this please??

I installed 4Sync when I was trying to find a download for a song and it has hijacked my browser completely. It always tries to set my default home page back to the 4Sync Homepage, but I do not want this. I even change it back and save the settings, but it just comes back and does it again in a few clicks. I feel like it has completely taken over Firefox and that it will always be my start page now, instead of the Firefox Google search page I normally use. I need to stop this because it is frustrating me. There is no new plugins or extensions installed on my browser, I just don't get it. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!

Same issue for me, no settings or options config changes this
I also tried a roll back to 3.16 and the problem is there too now, so its something in the general mozilla files
dont fancy a full uninstall and delete of anything mozilla, but i wont be using this if it continues

  • How do I fix in Windows 7 x64, when I click on a link in a web page Firefox displays in the lower left - javascriptvoid(0).

When I go to sites were I click on a link that will open a java script window, Firefox doesn't open the window. If I go to the same site with IE 8 and click on the same link it will open the java window. I have uninstalled java 6.3.2 and reinstalled 6.3.2 to see it that was the problem. I have also uninstalled Firefox 3.6.3 and reinstalled Firefox 3.6.3 to see if the installation had become corrupt. That has helped in the past, this time it has not.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

  • When I tap a menu item (File, Edit, View, etc.) flashing info moves across the screen. I am unable to get to Bookmarks, copy or anything. How do I stop this from happening?

    This has never happened before.
I don't understand why the arrow tapped on the menu item
causes the menu list to move rapidly across the window screen.
I am unable to click Print or exit or anything
What is that Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102
    I don't recall installing that!

    '''Video'''<br />
It depends on the type of video file. If they are .flv files (like youtube.com), you need to install Flash for Firefox; you do not have it installed for Firefox. There are 2 versions of Flash, one for IE only (ActiveX version) and one for most other browsers including Firefox (Plugin version). You must update each one individually.
#'''using Firefox''' download and save Flash from this link (save to your Desktop; easier for you to find): get.adobe.com/flashplayer
#when the download is finished, close Firefox (click Firefox button > Exit '''''OR''''' File > Exit, if using the Menu Bar)
#click or double-click the file you just downloaded
#on the left side of the install window, put a check mark in the box next to "I have read and agree"
#click on the Install button on the lower right of the install window; it will light up after you put the check mark in the previous step
#let the installation complete; it is quick

  • These pop-up ads for "WeFeedback" are all over, around, and interweaved throughout my facebook wall. How can I stop this annoying ad from appearing? I have a pop-up blocker on and I disabled third party cookies.

Every time I go to Facebook, these "We Feedback" ads pop up. They appear throughout my post every other post. They appear on each side of my wall. I logged on to them and posted a comment and said that what they are doing is commendable. But STOP YOUR ADS, NOW!!!

    Install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
Also, do you have McAfee Privacy Service installed? It disables the Firefox popup blocker. Disable it by clicking the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Extensions.

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

  • On Firefox v.21, when I visit a web page that has an embedded video, I do NOT want it to play automatically. How do I turn this OFF?

I checked my options settings for applications, and all of the known apps that play various formats of video files appear to be set to 'Always ask'. This does not resolve this problem, however. What I want to do is to set Firefox to NEVER automatically play ANY video that is part of a web page that I visit.
    How can I do this?

If I am seeing it correctly, the message in the video box
is reporting that the player has crashed. Reloading the
page should fix it. If your player still does not work
after reloading the page, you can go to the web page
for the player and download the player again.

  • When I press tab, an annoying icon bar pops up in front of my window showing all my open windows, how can I stop this?

Whenever I use the tab key on my keyboard to try to move between fields on the screen, instead of moving the curser I get an icon bar that pops up in front of the the window, showing all my open windows. I don't want this to happen anymore, please tell me how to stop it.

Sounds that Windows thinks that the Alt key is (still) pressed.
Does it help if you press all status keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt) a few times?

  • PDF links in IE7 web page open small

When trying to open a link on a web page I click the button "view" and the PDF page opens small.
In the past, using earlier versions of Adobe Reader, I did not have this problem of the PDF page opening small.
I drag the page to full size, but it does not save in the full size.
I have tried everything recommended on MS tech support pages to save the page full, but none of the solutions work for the PDF page.
I have repaired and re-installed Adobe Reader but the PDF page still opens small.
I am running under Vista Home Premium 64bit IE7
Thanks for any help you can offer to make the PDF page open full when clicking the "view" button
