When I scan a document, the document is reduced in size

Can someone explain to me why is it that when I scan a document it gets reduced in size?

You can either disable iCloud for documents&data altogether in SysPrefs (as pointed out in the above linked thread).
Alternatively you can retain iCloud functionality for data&documents and just switch off its default saving location (iCloud) by entering the following code into Terminal:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool false
This will give you the standard saving dialog, where you can select the appropriate location (my documents) instead of the iCloud saving dialog.
To reverse:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool true

When I scan and save the document to a pdf, it comes out completely grayed out.  What did I do wrong?

Thank you.  I already have that checked.   After an update, it started doing this.   Preferences> Display>Page Content & Info > Show large images is checked.
It is almost like a protection on the document that grays out all the content.

  • When I scan in color the PDF won't open.

When I scan a document in 24-bit color or in True Gray with either Adobe Reader 10.1.4 or 11.0.4 It gives me an error message saying I don't have permission to write to that folder. This happens no matter what folder I try to write to. It does create a file of the pdf scan but the file won't open; the error message says the file is damaged.
However if I scan in B&W or in Gray with Error Diffusion everything works fine.
This problem appeared suddently with no apparent cause.

You may want to talk to whomever makes your scanning software. You don't "scan" with Adobe Reader. You simply use it to open files after the fact and it sounds like the scanner software is corrupting the files.

  • •When cropping images, completely remove the borders to reduce excess light interference.

In the maunual, this is the last line in the instructions.  "When cropping images, completely remove the borders to reduce excess light interference."
What does this mean?  Do you have to remove the fromes from the slides before scanning or does the attachment hold the slide in it's frame?  What does cropping images refer to -  the digital copy or the original frame that you are copying from?

Hello Gingerlee, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you have questions about cropping options.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find your product number. Also, please include which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit. With this information and the product number we can provide you with accurate information.

When i Using 3G internet The battery is reducing very fast. maximum I can Use 2.30 Hours with internet using. Is this possible ?

How long are you using internet for? Are you using WiFi or mobile data? Are you watching video on websites? There are many variables that could explain a perfectly natural battery drain. As I said previously you should try recalibrating the battery. My phone used to drain by mid-afternoon with little to no use until I found out about recalibrating. Since then its been fine and its something I do at least once a month.

  • WHEN I SCAN TO PDF THE FILE COMES OUT HUGE!!

HELLO EVERYONE!   WHENEVER I SCAN SOME DOCUMENTS INTO A PDF FILE, IT COMES OUT HUGE!  AROUND 25MB.  I WENT TO KINKOS AND HAD THE SAME FILE SCANNED AND IT WAS AROUND 110KB.
IS THIS A PROBLEM WITH MY SCANNER? I CURRENTLY USE A DELL 962 ALL-IN-ONE.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

This has nothing to do with Adobe Reader. It has to do with your scanner's settings. They are scanning to fewer colors, lower resolution and even perhaps to a different type of image. Please consult the maker of your scanning software.

Run all the Windows Updates and Adobe Updates.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it.
Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
    Try scanning again.
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

Update the printer's firmware if you are still havinging issues. HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer - E710n Drivers. Select your operating system, click next, click the link for firmware.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
What application are you scanning with?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

  • Quicktime Pro: When Exporting for Web, how much does it reduce file size?

I'm considering purchasing Quicktime Pro so I can reduce the file size of Quicktime movies so they load quickly to be viewed on my website. Can anyone tell me how much I can expect to be able to reduce the size of a Quicktime file?

I will try some. 50-100 kB for a 4-color PDFs sounds high if any compression at all is used in the graphic. I would suggest that you look a bit at the graphics. They may not be "16-color" graphics (you may have used 4 colors, but the graphic storage would have to be 16 color, 256 color, or millions of colors and I suspect the storage is millions of colors that a lot of scans default to). You could use PhotoShop or simply IrfanView to check the properties of the colors of the images. That would be the first step I would suggest.
Once you have the colors set, then save them as TIFF to minimize loss in the graphic. TIFF has several options for compression and I really can't advise you there. Just select whatever is the default compression. I created a 8.5X11 image with 72dpi and 16 colors, getting a 55 kB file. The corresponding PDF was 60 kB. There is pixelization and such, but that is something for you to test.
Once you you have reasonable graphics, then consider the PDF. As I said, I ended up with a 60 kB PDF. A segment of the PDF is shown below as a JPeg:
When you put the files together, use Save As to finalize the PDF. Working on the graphics first is probably the best way to fix the issue, rather than dealing with the PDF directly. This allows you to clean up the PDFs and be sure that you have the level of colors (not millions, even if you only use 4) etc.

  • How to force the flash to reduce in size, working fine in explorer, not so much with chrome, firefox

Hello, I am new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes I may make.
    64bit Windows 7
    Chrome 14
    Firefox 5
    Explorer 9
    Flash Version: WIN 10,3,181,36
So on the website I am developing http://justram.ca/ the problem I face is that the flash is quite large in chrome and firefox and is appropriate in explorer. In the coding in dreamweaver I have specified that the hight should be 250 pixels. So I am not sure why it is looking more like 400 pixels in firefox and chrome. I have cleared the cache and browsing data many times thinking it might be a browser error. I also tried windows xp and the problem persists.
    Any help would be apreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tanay Parikh

Not sure if this is the right forum for your question.  There is a Flash Player question.
But since you're here and have posted I will firstly ask, is the browser viewing size set to 100% in all of your browsers?  They should display about the same if they are the latest modern browsers unless you have accidentally hit "Ctrl+" with the keyboard combination.

  • When I scan and save a document as a pdf. It is saved as a huge document. How do I adjust the size of a saved pdf?

I recently purchased a new computer. Now when I scan a document and save it as a pdf document; the size of the file is nearly 10 times the usual size. The size of 2 pages is so large that I can not send as an attachment. How do adjust the size of the pdf document?

Sending e-documents as email attachments is anyway never a good idea; use a file sharing service (Acrobat.com, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, ..) to upload the doc, then send the shared download link via email.
As for the scanned PDF size, see the earlier posts.

  • File names when saving scanned documents

When I scan a document and then try and save the same, The scanned document is saved hiwever the name that I give to the scanned document gets truncated. I dont understand why,  I am using windows 7

That is a long File Name.
Did you create this long file name system at the same time you started scanning these documents?
You have .pdf and .ld together as the file extension in the image you provided. What is .ld?
Can you go to the file name and rename it to add the other characters and it stays?
If not, I don’t think it’s the HP software doing this. It is most likely Windows.
The only thing I can think of is that Windows uses what’s called an 8.3 file naming convention. It is built into Windows and it shortens long file names for MS-DOS legacy applications. Every long file name has an alias that complies with the 8.3 file names for backward compatibility.
Take a look at this article from Microsoft on truncating names. This will explain what is happening (hopefully).
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142982
    Also,
Short file names may contain only the following characters:
    ·         Numbers (0,1-9)
    ·         Letters (A-Z, a-z)
    ·         Blank (blank spaces)
    ·         ASCII characters greater than 127
    ·         Special characters: $ % ' - _ @ ~ ` ! ( ) ^ # &
Long file names may contain only the following characters:
All of the characters supported by short file names
    ·         Special characters:  + , ; = [ ]
Length of the long file names are limited to 255 characters (260 for full paths = the file name and root of the folder) and short file names are limited to 8+3 or 11 characters (80 for full path names).
You can disable the 8.3 convention in Windows but there may be problems with some applications not being able to find files and directories that have long file names.
This Microsoft article explains how to disable 8.3 on NTFS partitions.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/121007
You will need to be logged in as an Administrator on the account. IF this computer is at your employers, you will have to contact their IT support for further discussion.
Go to Start and type CMD in the Search bar. Right click on CMD in the list and choose Run as Administrator.
    Type in the command prompt
    fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 1
    and press Enter.
This operation takes effect immediately (no restart required).
