When I try to open Firefox I get a screen that says Firefox is configured to use a proxy server. I don't know what that is and I have no access to Firefox.

The above says it all, I think. I try to open Firefox and I get that screen I mentioned above. I have uninstalled and program twice and re-installed it three times with the same result.

Check the connection settings.
*Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

Can you browse the Time Machine drive from Finder?
If you can and you know where the picture was stored ie on your desktop you can browse through the folder structure to the picture copy it and paste it somewhere on your new install before right clicking it and 'set as desktop background'

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Exactly the same problem. But it gets worse. iTunes has now disappeared from my list of installed programs so I can't uninstall anyway. Appalling problem. This update clearly didn't get proper testing before release.
In answer to your question about your song library, I seem to remember uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes a few years ago and the uninstall didn't remove the library then - I can't see why it would. Of course there have been a lot of updates since then, so it is definitely worth asking the question. Personally, I would be inclined to make a copy (if you have the space) of the iTunes folder just to be sure.
I certainly hope they get this fixed soon. I use iTunes mainly for podcasts on my iPod and I can't download anything right now.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Recently McAfee recommended I block 'roaming.dwm.exe' which I did. Could that have caused the problem? Since then I have swapped to AVG which found 3 Trojans and removed them, but I still cannot access Firefox. I have checked my Internet Connections settings and nothing is entered there.

Try selecting the "No Proxy" setting. If it doesn't work, select "Use System Settings". If this still doesn't solve the problem, leave the setting at "Use System Settings", then check your connection's settings (in Windows, not FF).

If the TOR Browser Bundle is installed you would have two versions of Firefox: the original Mozilla Firefox and the customized TOR Firefox. You can try to start the Firefox that was installed by TOR. If you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of TOR and TOR Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration areas/modules of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization etc. in addition to the main AV/Firewall module. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for TOR and TOR Firefox + its related processes. Something might be preventing Photoshop from being able to save your selection on the dialog window properly. You might try right clicking and choose Run as Administrator on the Photoshop icon when launching (Windows) or test if the behavior persists when using a newly created admin user account.
