When I view all images in Finder I see up to four duplicates of most of my images

I bought my iMac earlier this year and all of my images were transferred to my iMac at the Apple Store.

What firstlaunch said and also did you make any Folders within a Folder? If so the other photos will not show up by design because a Folder within a Folder will force a separation of the images — this is a good thing because sometimes you may not want clients to see what other clients have within projects/jobs.

  • Image Placement when moving from all images to Quick collection

It would be nice if your position in the main catalog would remain intact when you move from the main group of imgages to the Quick Collection. Presently, you scroll down through thousands of images in the main collection and find an image that you feel might be similar to one you've already added. You go to check the Quick Collection to review your selection and when you go back to continue searching the main collection, the cursor takes you back to the very top of the page of the main collection. You then have to scroll through thousands of images you've already looked at. Is there currently a way around this anyone?
An even better option would be the ability to open the Quick collection or any other Collection and view the images in side by side windows with the main collection. Aperture allows viewing in this manner. this would be a nice addition to Lightroom.

Absolutely agree. My request is here:

  • How can I view all image files

I have a large number (many thousands) of digital image files which over the last 14 years have been labelled and filed very poorly.  I am now seeking to sort them out.  Is there a way to see all the images in a folder structure?  So the situation is thus, I have a folder tree with subfolders and subfolders of subfolders etc..  Is there a view where I can see all the images together without having to trawl through the endless subfolders.
I know that iPhoto provides this but I don't have enough space to import all my images into a single new instance of iPhoto (I am try to address the space problem separately), whilst I sort that out I would like to be able to browse all the images that are in one folder structure (there are many folder structures on several drives) at a time.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your help.
    I have a 2.5GHz Core i5 with 12GB ram and I'm running OS X 10.7.2
I intend to upgrade to 16GB ram in the next couple of months but could do this now if I necessary.
What I have done since I posted is to clear one of the (300GB) external drives, set up an instance of iPhoto on it and I am currently importing 36,000 images (mainly RAW) as I type.  It could take a while
This import is the first installment - there are probably twice as many images spread across all my five external drives.
I know I have been inexcusably remiss with my housekeeping but only recently changed to a Mac and on my previous PC's everything was so hard and slow that it was easier not to bother, now I need to sort it all out so that I can make full of use of my incredible iMac and the brilliant software.
I am hoping that I will have enough ram to make it worthwhile - but happy to upgrade sooner if I must.
Hopefully iPhoto will also recognise duplicates which is my other problem.

  • How can i see when someone views my mail, how can i see when someone views my mail

Can someone please help me figure out how I can know when someone has read an email I sent

All you can do is "Request" a Read Receipt if the recipient does not want to send you a Read Receipt then they do not have to and you can not do anything about that. Thank God.
You can also include something like "Apon receipt of this email would you plaes respond that you have read it", "Thank You".
Other then that you have no control over it. Thank God.
Do you know and understand what would happen IF the Sender could Force the Recipient to send a Read Receipt or a Forced Response that they Recieved an Email. Spammer would have a field day.

  • Firefox 4.0 is my default browser, and I am receiving a script error message when I try to view online images in Family Tree Maker 2011, a genealogy program. Have not had problems until Firefox 4.0. Can't seem to find a setting in Firefox to fix this.

Error is as follows: Line: 63 Char: 4344 Error: Unable to get value of the property 'offsetHeight': object is null or undefined Code: 0 URL: http://yui.yahooapis.com/combo?2.8.0/build/yuiloader-dom- event/yuiloader-dom-event.js&2.8.0/build/dragdrop/dragdrop- min.js&2.8.0/build/stylesheet/stylesheet- Do you want to continue running scripts on this page? Y/N buttons."

I see. Well, I just tried to make IE my default browser, but it did not solve the problem. I receive the same script error when I view the image. (I may not have explained this thoroughly enough at first - I do get to view the image after answering the error message, but the print button embedded in the window doesn't work. Before, I never had a problem with viewing or printing.)
I imagine that at this point I will either need to communicate this to the IE people, or possibly revert to an older version of IE.

I have set up my airprint wifi printer which works perfectly with the HP eprint app. However, when i view an email and click on the top right arrow button and select "PRINT" on my ipad nothing happens????...
Also, when im viewing websites and i find something i wish to print, same again, if i simply click on the print option at the top right of the screen nothing happens... the only way I can print is if i copy the weblink of the site page then click on my HP eprint app and paste the web link, then select print, it prints off fine.. but its it such a pain to keep copying and pasting links or screen dumping emails just to print...

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app.  I am certain other applications also need this information.  Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. • Viewing RAW images in full screen - problem

I have begun to shoot some images in RAW mode with both my Nikon D70 and Nikon D200 - NEF format. I edit in Photoshop Elements, from withing iPhoto so that edited images are saved back to iPhoto.
When I view edited images in full screen mode from iPhoto, the edited version will be shown briefly and then the unedited version pops up. Anyone know what this is all about and can it be stopped?
Also, I am wondering why, when I right-click on a RAW image in iPhoto, one of my choices is "Reprocess RAW" whether I have edited it or not. And there is no choice to "Revert to original" as in non-RAW images.
    Marion

I think you are referring to minor color and other editing done within iPhoto. I am talking about cropping and other major editing done in Photoshop Elements. This edited RAW image, by default, is saved back to iPhoto - but NOT as JPEG - where I can view it along with other RAW images I have not processed in any way.
Yet, both edited and unedited images offer me the same option when I right click for the contextual menu - "Reprocess RAW." This is the place where "Revert to Original" appears when this menu is accessed from a JPEG image.
When I use iPhoto edit, which I almost never do, it does indeed save the image as "JPEG image (from Nikon RAW)." And indeed I do then have the option to Revert to Original.
Reprocess RAW works in the same way as Revert to Original. It was just mysterious to me why I was offered the opportunity to redo something I'd not done in the first place.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot view horizontal images in Iphoto

All of the my photos are viewable in Iphoto as thumbnails, but when I try to view the horizontal photos from the thumbnails I get a grey screen with an Exclamation point in the middle instead of the actual photo... The photos I previously turned vertical are opening fine... Also, I can open/view all images when not in IPhoto... How do I fix this?

I got it to work... I had been adding my modified images to the modified folder in iphoto, instead of putting them in their own folder... once I removed the photos I had added, everything started working as normal... Thank-you for your help! I would have never figured it out...

  • Why do my raws look different when I view them in Adobe Bridge/Adobe Camera Raw and Canons Digital P

    Hello all,
I am sorta new to taking Raw photographs and I have been been using Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw to edit. When I take my photos (I am using a Canon t2i) I have it set to save a raw and a jpg. When I view these images in Adobe Bridge/Camera Raw I notice a clear difference in the jpg and raw (I understand the whole concept behind raw vs. jpg. so im not questioning why one looks different) It is obvious all the adjustments that were applied to my jpg. vs the natural raw.  My question is: When I view the same two images in the software that came with my camera, canon digital photo professionals, the canon and raw look almost identical.... My assumption is that canon is applying the same "adjustments" to my raw as it did to the jpgs?  Has anyone used these two programs and noticed this?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
    Michelle

Can't say I'm an expert on DPP myself either.  I've only run it a few times myself.
If you're seeing Photoshop freeze just by looking at the File Info tab, that's certainly not expected and you should start a tread specifically to discuss that.  The forum may be able to help you get that working.
I happen to like the color my camera delivers in its embedded JPEGs (which I use to quickly review shots via IrfanView).  Starting with that color in Camera Raw by default just feels very natural and integrated.
Without a specific custom profile to help you with the task, here's my suggestions for the next best thing:
    1.  Take an image with a range of different colors in it.
    2.  Open the embedded JPEG also using whatever means you have to do so.
    3.  Open it also in Camera Raw and make sure you're using the Camera Raw default parameters.
    4.  Go into the Camera Calibration tab (little camera icon), and choose the Camera Standard profile as provided by Adobe.
    5.  Tweak the various sliders so as to match the color between what you're seeing in the JPEG and Camera Raw.
    6.  Save new Camera Raw defaults.
    Some notes:
Make sure you leave the White Balance on As Shot, since storing a specific white balance is probably not going to be helpful.
Test your settings and repeat the above to tweak them as needed using other images.
Keep in mind that not every application does proper color-management.  IrfanView can be set up to do so, and I don't recall whether you have to tweak a default setting to make it do that or not (it's been a while).
    Hope this helps!

  • How to view an image @ 100% ?

When I do some editing in iPhoto, especially sharpening, I'd like to see it @100%.
There is no indication at what % I'm viewing the image.
Is there any way to know that ?
When clicking "edit" on the bottom, at what size the image opens?
    Thanks!

ok, I found an Apple article from 2007 which explains how to do that. I'm posting it here for others:
    ===================================
iPhoto: Sharpness adjustment may not be apparent when viewing at less than 100 percent
Last Modified on: July 13, 2007
    Article: 301425
When you view an image at less than full size, iPhoto smooths it (a technique known as anti-aliasing) to get rid of artifacts that result from scaling down the photo. The relationship between anti-aliasing and sharpening is a trade-off; although anti-aliasing does not modify the actual image file, it does counter the effect of sharpening when viewing the image at less than full size.
Because of this, if you sharpen a photo, close it, then reopen it again at a less than 100-percent view, you may get the impression that your sharpness changes were not saved. In reality they were, but since the image has been re-aliased to fit your screen, the image's true sharpness may not be apparent.
To evaluate whether an image is sharp or needs sharpening, you should view the photo at 100 percent/full size while editing in a separate window. To open the photo in a separate window, you can either Control-click the image and choose "Edit in a separate window" from the shortcut menu, or change your iPhoto preferences:
From the iPhoto menu, choose Preferences.
In the General pane, locate the preference for "Double-click photo."
Set the radio button to "Opens photo in edit window."
    Close the preferences window.
Now photos will open in a separate window when you double-click them. Once in the separate window, choose 100% from the Size pop-up menu. If you don't see the Size menu, widen the window until it appears.
Tip: If you are editing the photo from one of the other view options, you can press the 1 key to quickly jump to 100 percent view.
Other applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, handle anti-aliasing differently, so the degree of apparent sharpness can vary from one application to the next when viewing an image at a scaled-down size. You should see consistency when comparing the image at 100 percent across other applications.

  • When copying raw files from Extreme IV card to hardrive, finder copies a few files then exits task and wipes the card clean of all images.

When copying raw files from Extreme IV card to hardrive, finder copies a few files then exits task and wipes the card clean of all images.  Have tried new card and card-reader to no avail.  Have done this many times on other macs with no problems.
Can edit files off the card, in CameraRaw, prior to 'copying' them, ie can 'save as' to the hard drive, so files seem okay on card, before I try to copy them using copy and paste.
Running OS 10.8.3 on a new macbook pro.

    Rita,
The process for determining what is causing the files to be corrupt can be a tedious one depending on the following:
    1. Can you review the images on your camera's LCD screen without problems? If not then the problem is most probably either a corrupted/faulty memory card or a faulty camera. If this is the case then your best bet at recovery (of sorts) is to use a program such as BrezzeBrowser from BreezeSys to extract the embedded jpeg versions of the corrupted RAW files from within each RAW file. Chances are, you won't manage to actually repair the corrupted RAW file but the jpegs are better than nothing.
    2. If the images review ok on your camera but are corrupted when viewing on your computer and there seems to be no other problem with other files on your computer then it may be either a faulty card reader or usb/firewire cable between the card reader and the computer that is the culprit. Try the card reader with a different cable and also try a different card reader to determine the cause of the corruption.
    3. If your symptoms are that you get different files corrupting over time when viewing them on your computer then the problem may be any one of either failing RAM memory, hard disk, hard disk controller or IDE/SATA hard disk cables. This is where the troubleshooting can be pretty tedious testing then eliminating each item from the list of suspicious pieces of hardware. Try the card and card reader on an altogether different computer to see if the files transfer correctly to that computer. If so then the problem lies with your computer hardware. If you haven't already done so at this stage, backup all your important data immediately (hopefully you keep backs anyway).
    Hope this helps.
