When is global context memory freed?

Hi:
I've got a package that I call for each user on logon that gets their unique ID and then sets values particular to that user in a global context after setting the CLIENT_IDENTIFIER for the session. I'm basically using the "One Big App User" approach. I'm testing the package out, making sure that attributes get set correctly by having another oracle user (TEST) loop through known usernames and having the context package set the attribute values based on the username. When control comes back to the test user I print out the values for the session. It all looks like it's working.
My question is, as I run this test program, I keep monitoring the global context memory. The amount isn't huge, but I'm wondering when it goes down. I expected it to be when the test program stopped I logged out of that SQL Plus but that didn't happen. So when does GLOBAL_CONTEXT_MEMORY get freed?
Thanks.

Hi,
Please see the below link for detailed info on global context memory release.

Hope this helps.

  • Context Memory & Roll Area

    <b>what are the context memory and roll area?</b>

    Roll Area:
    Each Internal Session is subdivided into PXA
    and Roll Area. The PXA (Program Execution Area) is
    a shared memory for the byte codes of all
    programs running concurrently at any one time on
    an application server. Only the Roll Area is the

    User Contexts
    The memory management system assigns memory to user contexts from the following areas: roll area, SAP extended memory, and heap memory.
    The order of assignment from these memory areas arranges itself according to whether the user context runs in an SAP dialog work process or in another SAP work process. This enables the SAP system to optimally use the characteristics of the individual memory types.
    When allocating memory, the following characteristics for individual memory types become noticeable.

    Wrap your data refs in {}:
    return lookupFunction('{price}');

  • When is Static variables memeory freed ?

    When is the memory used by static variables freed by the GC?

    When is the memory used by static variables freed by
    the GC?Are you talking about the variables or the objects they point to?
    class Foo {
      static Bar bar = new Bar();
      static void relaseBar () {
        bar = null;
    } The first call to releaseBar() makes the Bar object eligible for GC, so the space it occupies could be freed at any point, or never--it's totally up to the whims of GC.
    The space taken up by he bar reference variable, which is NOT the same as the object--will be eligible for GC only if and when the class is unloaded. Like anything that becomes eligible for GC, the memory isn't explicitly freed until GC runs, which is not very predictable, and my never happen at all. For most purposes, however, you can effectively consider memory "freed" at the point when it become eligible for GC.

    I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
    When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
    trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
    It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
    I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
    I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
    Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.
    Help.

  • How to avoid the dialogue when converting from context menu

    This is a follow-up to http://forums.adobe.com/message/2016146#443364 which was locked due to a bug.
    i would like to know how i can avoid the 'save as' dialogue when using the context menu to convert a word file to pdf using windows XP/acrobat 8/word 2007.
    so far, it always prompts me for the filename, which is annoying as it does not allow me to batch-convert several files and let the thing run its course.
    the solution provided by Steve in the other thread does not work - even if the plugin from word does not propt for a filename, it still does when triggered from explorer/context menu.
    so back to square one: how to avoid that dialogue when not opening word at all?
    cheers, thanks for any help. michael

    For a permanent change, START>PRINTERS>right click on Adobe PDF printer and select properties>General>Printing Preferences>Adobe PDF Settings. Under the settings tab, uncheck the box related to asking for a name. Pretty sure that is the location, but it may vary with version.

  • I recently got a iPad camera connection kit hoping to directly download my photos from the memory card for my camera, a Sony Cybershot. When I put my memory card in the adapter and plug it in to the iPad nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

    I recently purchased an iPad camera connection kit hoping to directly download pictures from my camera to my iPad. When I put my memory card into the adapter and plug it in to my iPad nothing happens.  My camera is a Sony Cybershot and the memory card is a Sony memory stick PRO duo 512 mb.  I don't think I am doing anything incorrect.  Is my camera/memory card incompatible with this adapter?

    The Camera Connection Kit works with SD cards, not Memory Sticks.
    Maybe you can find an MS to SD adapter, or use the USB connection with the USB cable that came with the camera.

  • [SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL

    Hi All,
    I am running an SSIS solution that runs 5 packages in sequence.  Only one package fails because of the error:
    [SSIS.Pipeline] Warning: Warning: Could not open global shared memory to communicate with performance DLL; data flow performance counters are not available.  To resolve, run this package as an administrator, or on the system's console.
    I have added myself to the performance counters group.
    I am running windows 7 with SSIS 2008.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.  I have read that some have disabled the warning, but I cannot figure out how to disable a warning.
    Thanks.
    Ivan

    Hi Ivan,
    A package would not fail due the warning itself, speaking of which means the account executing it is not privileged to load the Perf counters, and should thus be safely ignored.
    To fix visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2496375/en-us
    So, the package either has an error or it actually runs.

  • Global shared memory

    hi all,
    im need to maintain some data insideEJB container which will be frequently accesed by almost all of my application components. Like Global Shared Memory (GSM) in C++, is there any way of maintaining this data im memory since the application is performance critical .
    Most of my components are session and message driver beans,. Any component should access , the above mentioned common data and should be done without performance (speed) drawback .
    Please help me in this matter , as this is of utmost importance in the application design .
    Also suggest me some web links on the topic .

    If you are going to keep in temporary basis for one transaction, then you can keep the data in Java Bean object. You can put your data in a collection object and set it on the JavaBean object. Make sure the instance of the Java Bean object should be sent to each EJB so that they all will be referring to the same bean instance. Otherwise you will not get the data.
    If you want keep it for long, let's say for the session, then put the data in Stateful session bean. Make this session bean local so that other EJBs can access data locally rather making remote calls. You may use SessionFacade pattern to control the transaction properly.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Thanks

  • When does java deallocate memory for objects;

    um i'm working on a midp application that is very memory consuming. i would like to optimise it and make it just the oposite of what it is. now i would like to know when does java dellocate memory for an object, is it when it can find no more references to that object? or some other time, well i know its not when it can find no more references to that object because i've already tried that.
    or to make things simpler is there any explicit way to make java deallocate memory for a specific object, like if i have a thread, which is executing a while loop, and i want java to end the thread and free its memory. is there any way to do this?

    I happen to have quite some J2ME experience and it's not overly wise to count on extensive garbage collection. The garbage collector in limited device VMs isnt as advanced as it's big brothers. Try to avoid excessive object allocation and reuse instances whenever possible.
    As for garbage collection, objects will be garbage collected if they can no longer be reached by any of the active application threads and if the garbage collectors deems it necessary to collect garbage, which will probably be when free heap memory becomes sparse or when there's some idle time in your application.

  • Premiere crashes when exceeding ~1.2GB memory usage

    This is extremely annoying. I have found Premiere to crash when it hits around 1.2GB to 1.5GB of memory usage on medialayer.dll or something. I was able to crash Premiere in just a matter of seconds after launching it and opening my project. I work quickly, so this happens frequently.
    Q9450 Yorkfield Quadcore (12MB Cache), clocked at 3.2GHz
    4GB of 1200 RAM
    All my scratch disks are set to my second partition, which has around or at least 200GB of free space. My page file is set to about 4GB. My machine is defragmented daily by Diskeeper Pro 2008.
    I am dealing with 26 video files and have frame thumbnails displaying in the timeline thing (it makes everything all the more easier for what I am specifically doing) and adds up to around a total of 9 to 10 hours of video and audio. I'm chopping out the intro, credits, and midtro from each video, which is basically what I am doing.
    However, I am currently downloading the latest update (which is like 50.3MB) that might possibly fix this issue. At least I hope it does. :( This crash/memory leak is going to drive me insane if it cannot be fixed.
    EDIT :: I have observed that every time I save, the memory usage goes up by 200KB to 500KB. For each frame thumbnail that Premiere loads, the memory usage goes up by a whopping 2MB+. This will and does quickly add up for the work I'm doing. Photoshop never unloads any of this memory!
    EDIT2 :: By the way, the frame thumbnails are 88x65 sized thumbnails.
    EDIT3 :: Even with the latest version and update, Premiere Pro CS3 still crashes for the same reason. I haven't seen the memory usage at 1GB though.
    EDIT4 :: Latest updates help though, but does not fix the problem. When I minimize Premiere, usage is 17 MB. When I bring it back up, usage is 32MB. I can keep resetting the usage to 17/32MB simply by just minimizing Premiere and bringing it back up again (and the memory usage reset is about instant). So far I've reset it numerous times when reaching levels of around 600MB to 800MB of memory usage and haven't crashed in my current session due to the memory leak yet.
    This seems to be only a temporary solution.
    http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/premiere-memoryleak-workspace.gif
    That is my current workspace. I literally keep task manager open with Premiere highlighted like that so that I can watch the memory usage levels (to know when to 'reset' the memory usage) as I work. Right now all I'm doing is zooming in and out, and splitting videos in two (or multiple pieces).

    Q9450 Yorkfield (12MB Cache) @ 3.2GHz
    2GB G.Skill PC2-6400 (400MHz) x2 (4GB total, running with 3.5GB due to 32-bit limitations)
    NVIDIA FX5200 (temporary, waiting for ATI HD4850 to come back from RMA)
    500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 SATA-II w/ SATA-II enabled
    I have my 500GB harddrive partitioned into two partitions: 40GB (C) and 425GB (D). C is for Windows XP (includes drivers, codecs, and things that relate heavily to the core of Windows; stuff that isn't important enough to backup). D is for everything else, which includes games, utilities/tools, media (images, video, music), developer material, etc.
    On D, you would find the following logical layout of folders:
    Developer, Games, Media, Network, Utilities, Mozilla Firefox, Temp.
    Temp is so that I can (in an organized fashion) set the temporary locations and scratch disks for programs here. All scratch disks are set to D:\Temp\Premiere, and currently reports 121.9GB of free space. I can easily free up 114GB to 240GB of material on D though (which I plan to do sometime anyway).
    What information do you want to know? Be specific, I'm not stupid and illiterate like most people.
    EDIT :: I didn't mention this in my post, but I did take the precautions to search through the Troubleshooting database for Premiere, and I did read through the optimizations for Windows XP article (which I already had the same suggestions applied to my computer since the dawn of time -- so that wasn't really useful).
    EDIT2 :: I checked the troubleshooting link and none of those really apply. (Do you even know what a memory leak is?)
    =P
