When is verizon going to upgrade fios speed tiers?

I'd like to upgrade my speed from 35/35 plan.  Does anyone know when Verizon is going to upgrade the fios speed tiers?  Compared to cable co docsis 3, fios is starting to look and feel slow.

Verizon does have higher speed tiers if you really want the additional speed. Their 50M/20M package is certainly feeling dated since it hasn't been updated in... 5 years? but they did introduce a 150M/75M package for a good deal of money a month, as fast but unfortunate as that might be. Now if what you're asking for is a speed boost on all the tiers, Verizon tends to boost the speeds every year to a year and a half. Lately these boosts have been silent. The 35Mbps tier, for example tends to clock in 43 or so Megabits on the download and about 38Mbps on the upload. Since you have that package, I'd check to see what you're really getting.
I would like to see 50Mbps/20Mbps go to 100Mbps/100Mbps sometime in the near future, though. 150Mbps/75Mbps goes to 250Mbps/250Mbps. That'd be very nice to see and by no means will DOCSIS 3.0 get that kind of upload any time soon.
As it currently stands, the highest DOCSIS 3.0 package available to me is 50Mbps/5Mbps. FiOS's basic package in my area still beats that plan in upload by an additional megabit. The legacy 50Mbps/20Mbps speed smokes that cable connection in upload, and is also $20 cheaper a month believe it or not.
Here, the packages run as follows:
1Mbps/384kbps DSL > Runs at 1Mbps/340kbps. Comparative Cable package: 768kbps/128kbps. ($25 for DSL and Cable).
3Mbps/1Mbps > Runs at 5Mbps/2Mbps. Comparative Cable Package: 10Mbps/1Mbps ($30/m FiOS, $40/m Cable).
15Mbps/5Mbps > Runs at 20Mbps/6Mbps. Comparative cable package: 15Mbps/2Mbps (~$50/m for Cable, $45 FiOS).
25Mbps/25Mbps > Runs at 30Mbps/26Mbps. Comparative Cable package: 30Mbps/5Mbps ($60/m for Cable, $55/m for FiOS).
35Mbps/35Mbps > Runs at 43Mbps/38Mbps, available if you have Phone or TV with FiOS. Comparative Cable package: 50Mbps/5Mbps (Same price as the 25Mbps for FiOS, Cable is $100/m).
50Mbps/20Mbps > Runs at 51Mbps/20Mbps. Comparative Cable package: 50Mbps/5Mbps. ($80/m FiOS, $100/m Cable)
150Mbps/35Mbps > Runs at 155Mbps/75+Mbps. Comparative Cable package: 50Mbps/5Mbps ($200/m FiOS, $100/m Cable).
So I guess it really depends on what market you live in, I guess. A Comcast or Cablevision market i'm sure would have higher speed Cable packages, and in the case of Cablevision, ones that cost less and that would be where I'd expect Verizon to boost speeds. Other than that, FiOS does have the overall edge in my area regardless, as long as you don't cheap out and go with the unadvertised packages.

  • When is Verizon going to add coverage where they currently have no service?

I am living in an area in Texas where I get great 4G coverage, but that is the only service I receive.  My husband travels and is constantly in areas where there is no coverage at all.  When is Verizon going to increase their coverage so they are everywhere?
Also, I need additional services, but they are not offered by Verizon in my area?  Why do I have 4G coverage, but cannot get FIOS for home or any business services?
If not resolved by the time my contract ends you may lose a long time customer who moved here from AZ where service was excellent.

Thank you Ann, but that does not explain why I am currently out of touch with my husband who has 0 service with his cell phone.  We both have the same phones and if he had an AT&T phone he would have coverage.  If Verizon Wireless doesn't step up and increase their coverage we may move to AT&T so we have coverage within our entire state.
It was my belief that Verizon Wireless was owned by Verizon the wireless just being one of many services they offer.  When I call for assistance I am speaking with Verizon, not just Verizon Wireless.  When I want help for my phone in person I go to a Verizon store, not a Verizon Wireless store.  So to me, they are one and the same.  It is the same with AT&T.  It is bad enough AT&T is the only internet service I can get, but it looks like I will be going to AT&T for the complete package if something is not done soon about Verizon's lack of coverage in Texas.

  • When is Verizon going to offer the iPhone 4 8GB for free with 2 year contract extention?

Just wondering when this was going to happen.  My wife is due for an upgrade and I'd like t wait and get the iPhone 4 for free rather than paying 100 bucks right now and extend the contract for two more years.

Also....whats the deal with there not being an option to chat with someone from Verizon about simple questions like this.....geez.....this is really aggravating.
Well, it's a simple question and I can tell you the answer you would get. "We have no information"
In general, businesses don't tell you "Don't buy now.  Wait X weeks and it will be cheaper".

  • When is Verizon going to................

My plan is almost up, so with these economic times, I am obviously doing some research. I see other companies doing GREAT things for their customers, but when I ask Verizon if/when they are going to do them....I get silence. A few examples:
    1. Roll-over minutes...is this in the future plan?
    2. UNLIMITED mobile to mobile, regardless of company?
    3. Nights and weekends at 7 pm (not 9 pm...who does a majority of their calling after 9pm??)
These are the 3 big ones I am seeing other companies doing for their customers. Will Verizon step off the schnied and do better for their customers, or are they going to stick to their monopolisitic ways and just stick it to us customers and keep advertising the greatest?
Personally, with us on the verge of a depression (gas prices are going up again folks....but that's a whole different topic in my world) when will Verizon step up and show us they WANT to keep us?
Just a short rant...hoping someone from Verizon reads this and can address it.

While I disagree with much here, I will say that you made a great point. Customers have shown that they will gladly go with an inferior service or product if it means getting a few dollars worth of savings or another small perk, which is interesting to say the least. The companies that are offering these services often do so as a means to stay competitive against a company that offers better reliability and, through clever advertising and rhetoric, customers are convinced that they are lacking something substantial.
As for the three points that you mentioned, VZW has been testing the Mobile to ANY Mobile calling plans through select customer markets; this could be implemented sometime in the future, but nothing has been stated formally. Next, Rollover Minutes are silly and only seem like a good option when looked at superficially. The point that VZW Reps will often make is that if you have minutes that are constantly rolling over, then you are probably paying too much for your price plan; if you only have a few minutes that are rolling over each month, however, does it really matter? Usually, also, Rollover Minutes have expirations and do not transfer into the following calendar year period, which eliminates any of the benefits of saving them. Monitoring your minutes at least once near the end of the monthly cycle and backdating a price plan change to accommodate overages is usually a better alternative. I would like to see a 7pm nighttime minute start time come into effect, but this isn't as much of a big deal.
Finally, I hear about problems with Customer Care lightly, but it is not the majority. The problem, which is true of most businesses, is that the customers who have problems are far more vocal than those who are satisfied. People, being easily influenced, are more likely to pay attention to the most vocal whether they have actually had problems or not - we saw this in school in a way. The general consensus is that VZW is very good. Most of the time, though, when I hear of problems with Customer Care, it is on the heels of the customer not getting what they want or think they deserve and treating the reps like garbage; this is more common than anything. People who complain about this are usually trying to get credits, discounts, and whatnot that are unreasonable. Rarely is it an actual problem with getting help. There is an easy way to assess this, though: VZW has +90 million customers, how many people have you heard with problems pertaining to VZW or their Customer Care? It is likely that you are only hearing this from a small fraction of a percent. History shows that these same people are usually people who will call in frequently for assistance and refuse to use any of the self-service options that are readily available, which increases overall dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, the common view is that the problem of a tiny percentage is an actual indication of a problem with the company, but this is not the case. Most do not have one single problem with the company and, upon calling in for help, get their questions answered efficiently and professionally.

  • When is Verizon going to provide Android v4.3 API level 18?

Google released Jelly Bean 4.3 API level 18 on the 24th of July 2013.  When is this going to be provided for the Droid 4?  Mine still has Android version 4.1.2, which was released a year ago, and lacks support for low energy Bluetooth and many other new features.
It is unacceptable for Verizon to lag so far behind the Google developers, especially since Google bought Motorola.

Likely never. The only phone on 4.3 right now period is the Nexus 4, and the new Nexus 7 tablet has 4.3. The GPE Galaxy S4 and GPE HTC One are probably next in line to get the update, along with possibly the Google Play version of the Galaxy Nexus.
non-Nexus/GPE phones, if they get the update, will lag behind by 6 months to a year, minimum, as normal.
Your Droid 4 was released on 2.3, updated to 4.0 then 4.1, it's already seen RIDICULOUSLY more support than the average android phone will ever see.
Many of the "new features" you refer to require hardware your Droid 4 doesn't have, for example updated versions of the bluetooth hardware inside to conform to the newer bluetooth standard, or require drivers to support the features that haven't yet been written for the particular chipsets and components used in your Droid 4.
Most phones, if they get an android software version update at all, get one update in their life cycle. Yours has seen two, be happy to have gotten the updates you got.

  • No upgrades in speed tiers in 4 years

I was one of the very first dsl customers to switch to uverse in my area. Back then the fastest speed tier was 24 down and you had to be very close to the vrad, I could only get 18 down. I have read about all the upgrades they do now like different cards and different frequencies and see 45mbs advertised on tv all the time. My question is why in 4 years has no upgrades been done to my service? I check monthly on myatt.com on the upgrade speed and 18 down is always the fastest available to me. Can someone please let the right people know I have been a loyal customer for a very long time and im interested in very fast speeds? Thanks in advance.

The new speed tiers are short loop.... Meaning you had to qualify for best single pair internet speed of Max Turbo 24 on the 32M profile to receive the bonded short loop Power 45 (F, K or N card) or the Power Plus 75 (17a on K or N card). As your best speed is Max Plus 18 your either a long loop single pair install under 3000 feet or a longer loop bonded install. Both of these are on a 25M profile to provide Max Plus 18 internet. There have been a few upgrades here and there moving a few who qualify on 17a to the 32M profile to be eligible for Max Turbo 24/3. This will be your best bet for faster speed if your loop length is short enough.

  • When is Verizon going to fix all of the things they broke with the latest update?

    Dear Verizon Wireless,
I have been a customer for many years and for the most part have been satisfied with your service, but what happened to my Note 3 after the latest update is unacceptable.  I see many people in this forum with similar issues that are getting stock answers that don't really address the issues, and show a lack of interest in solving the problems, and helping your customers.
I received my Galaxy Note 3 at the end of March, and I loved it.  It was very reliable, fast, and I could go a whole day on the battery (Most of my days last at least 18 hours) making calls, streaming audio or video, even sharing my broadband connection with my tablet once in a while, and still show the battery was 50% charged.  Until I received the 4.4.2 update on May 17th.
Immediately after the update (which I installed that morning, fresh off the charger) the battery only lasted until around 7 PM,  when I plugged it into the charger first it didn't recognize it was even plugged in, and later kept telling me that I should use the original charger and cable for better performance.
The clock showed the time as an hour later, I had to manually set the time zone instead of using the "obtain time zone information from the network" feature.
The alarm clock randomly decides not to go off, this morning at 9:30 it still showed the alarm was set to go off at 8 am, but didn't.
Yesterday while a mile from my house I received a notification that I would be charged extra for data usage while roaming outside of the U.S. and asking did I want to use it or not, while It had already disable my data waiting for a response, this would be useful if I had been outside of the U.S. and not at home.
Don't tell me that my 45 day old battery lost 80% of it's functionality overnight because periodically they need to be replaced, while that is true it happens gradually over time and not within a 24 hour period.  The other problems, while somewhat minor, are still annoying and detract from the reliability of this device.  Not getting up on time because the alarm is unreliable is a big issue, I've used the alarm on my phones for 15 years without serious issues, and today I will be buying an alarm clock..
I've worked 30 years in the IT field, many of those helping people resolve technical issues and I know how to tell the different between user configuration issues and broken software, If you don't have a real answer to mine and other peoples concerns on this forum then maybe it is time to escalate this issue to someone that was involved with building this update.
I don't want to restore my phone unless it will actually solve the issue and not "lets see what happens when you do", because it would take me hours to reconfigure all of the software on my device.  Removing the update is probably not an option, so what I really want to know is when will the update be pushed that will fix these issues?

        Frustrated_liz,
Hearing about all of the issues going on is upsetting to me, and so I can only imagine how you're feeling. I'm sorry you have to go through this experience. How hot is the phone getting? Hearing about it overheating is a huge safety concern and I'm worried. Have these service issues been going on since you got the phone?

  • When is Verizon going to update their technology?

Has anyone else noticed that Verizon hasnt updated their technology to match either Dish or Direct TV?  I dont know about you but 500gb DVR is not getting the job done for me anymore not with HD recordings a couple of sports events and its filled.  With most people not watching live TV anymore and choosing to record everything to skip commercials and long intros plus end of commercial updates these days my DVR is straining to stay under 100% capacity.  I have used DISH's new Hopper system and love it recording 8 different channels in prime time is real effective because with only two tuners in the FIOS system I often have to make a decision what to watch and what to get off the internet.  In these days the technology exists so that I dont have to download content from the internet I should be able to get it right off my DVR.  One solution would be to store all primetime shows in the video on demand so it would not have to be recorded through the DVR this would save Verizon a ton of money having to update all the DVRs to newer technology.
When Verizon went to a system that required users to buy their own Hard Drives to increase storage size I knew right away that would fail, shifting the cost from Verizon to the home user was a very poor excuse for not wanting to spend the money to update the equipment.  I dont know why verizon doesnt use the internet for storage and live updates of its scheduling, Verizon has always had a problem with its TV guide system not being up to date especially with live programming many times the end of the game is lost because it ran too long for the DVR guide system to handle.  Of course the fix is to just record the next show right after the game so you get the overtime or overage but this is a poor way of handling it when its not necessary.  Wake up Verizon or watch the competition eat you up!

I dont know about Directv, but DIsh's DVR give you much less space then stated because much of it is reserved for their use.
Still Verizon has been showing some new technology planned for the next models, but full specs or time frames are not nailed down.

  • When is Verizon going to push OTA Android 5.0 for VS985? Rest of the world has it - why not US?

Seems Verizon is one of the last to push this to their customers. Come on Verizon, we were stuck with 4.4.2 on release day and you have done nothing for us except that stupid video call update you pushed a month back.
Hell, even straighttalk pushed 5.0 to their customers already.
We pay more for less with Verizon - hell I am paying almost 150 a month for ONE LINE. Since we are paying premium we expect premium.
No crap about "we have to ensure it works on our network". You guys have had 6 months since Developer release and 2 since LG Released final code. It doesn't take 2 months to test it on one device.
Stop dragging heals and take care of your customers for once.

"We are dedicated to offering you the very best device experience, PwrPak! At this time, we do not have information regarding a future software release for the LG G3. I apologize for any inconvenience."
    1. I am an Automated Software Test Analyst. What is that? I build code to run automated tests for the purpose of testing software prior to release.
    2. Ever heard of Agile Testing? We run software releases, built, tested and promoted, in two to three week sprint sessions. It doesn't take 2 months to test software. Heck, it doesn't take 1 month to test software built for a specific device (in this case LG G3).
    3. It was released in Poland as initial test and Korea once Poland was ok. Korea is not a small market for LG G3 -I think you over-estimate the number of people in the US who have the LG G3.  The reason it was released in Korea is two fold - 1. It's the home of LG and 2. There aren't the same carrier restrictions that we face here in the US.
The problem my friend is not location or volume, it's the carriers themselves. The software may be just fine to release, but if it detracts any of Verizon's services where it might expose ways for users to get the same services for free or reduced- Verizon will crunch the release. Only when Verizon is absolutely sure it's bottom line won't be affected, will it release the OTA. This is the same reason the VS985 shipped with a locked bootloader - it's all about protecting Verizon's ability to charge it's customers for what has become one of the most expensive services in the US.
It's all about the Greenback and nothing about the OS Stability.
    Amen!

  • When is Verizon going to take care of its paying customers?

I have a droid 3 and a thunderbolt.  My droid 3 has been replaced 3 times.  The current replacement that i now have in posession is no better than the one that i have yet to send back.  I told the man (customer service) that i would like a different phone since i have no luck with motorolla droid 2, and now 3.  He offered my a cheezy samsung touchphone and a droidx2.  Upon offering me the droidx2 he also stated that I would have to come out of pocket for a back plate and a battery.  I am so tired of all these phone problems.  I pay good money for this service and i am constantly having to spend more, especially in  terms of time of which is the most valuable resource that we all posess.  Countless minutes on the phone with your customer service agents, restarts, time setting everything up, etc.  You guys have to be kidding me.  In all actuallity you guy should be willing to bend over backwards in order to retain your consumers.  I would like to hear back on this from someone that can actually help.  Take all the $ and the time that i have spent with you on the phone and mulitply that by my rate of pay and you will see that i have probaly paid for at least 3 motorlola Razerx or whatever your top phone is.  I am not asking for a Razor I am asking for a little old fashioned customer service.  I will go to AT&T for next term and contact your shareholders if this matter is not resolved in a timely manner.  Go HTC!!!!  Have not really had a problem with my thunderbolt.

Obviously, they TRIED to help ...a big A for effort.  If you're the kind of person that is happy at attempts, trying etc...  Good for you.  I myself am a fan of results.  You kind of sound like they do, you have many words with no real solution.  I am not here to talk about a "simple agents" performance, for they do all they can and were more then courteous.  I am aware of that.  No questions asked you say???  How about all the minutes out of my personal time invested in this?  You must work for verizon.  If you have a solution, it is very simple.  Maybe the corporate office should contact me.

  • When will Verizon get competitive with Comcast

I live in the central Virginia area.  I have friends with Comcast that now get Picture-in-Picture (PiP) with their DVR.  They don't have to do anything special except push the PiP button on the remote.  No special wiring, no splitting the cable, etc. When is Verizon going to offer the same service???????

I don't know one way other the other whether it is possible or not with Motorola DVRs, but a post in this thread by KenAF says not, and I have found him to be very knowledgeable:

KenAF is always saying that the Motorolla hardware won't support this, that or the other (16:9 guide, external hard drives, PIP, etc...) due to a lack of adequate memory. His argument usually is essentially that no one else is doing it with this equipment so FiOS can't either. I don't believe that for a minute. Software solves a lot of problems and there are always smarter ways to get it done.
The hardware seems fine to me. With the right development effort, I'm sure that Verizon could make PIP work.

Anyone out there know when Adobe is going to upgrade Adobe Connect to incorporate AS3 scripting so I that I can continue to use Captivate with Connect?

Adobe Connect was changed to AS3 around Nov 2010, with the release of Connect 8. I recall that Connect 8.1 was the hard change, where AS2 applications would no longer work with the meeting room.

Now MacBook Pro 17" early 2011 built May onward do not have this problem it was fixed in the Intel's 6 Series Chipset. (So there is a problem). Cam I have my MacBook Pro fixed please.

After biting the bullet and ordering more RAM, my computer now is working a ton better. So that must have been the main issue. With 8 GB RAM, I can now even run Parallels fluidly (better than my work PC!) where before simple things like logging in to my MBP after reboot could take forever.
The place I went to had several other people getting RAM upgrades at the same time as me, so between this and other comments I've seen in discussions here and elsewhere on the Internets, I take it to mean that either Apple should bump up the base RAM on its new machines, and/or stop charging so much for additional RAM.
I refused to believe a Pro machine bought with Lion installed would come with too little RAM for light to medium usage, but it was apparently the case. I'll mark this as a correct answer and hope some other poor soul will come across this thread and be helped by it.

We have had Verizon Wireless service since 2007. We have 6 lines on our account. Unfortunately in 2012 when I (903.647.0073) upgraded from the iPhone4s to the iPhone 5 I started having reception problems. I started having dropped calls in my home. I had to go outside to get reception without dropped calls. I was told that because of metal in my home I would have to purchase a Network Extender for $250. And we HAVE not metal in our home. AND our other lines all work fine. I felt this was ridiculous. We already pay $350+/month for service and I should NOT have to purchase additional equipment for a service that I already pay for. The manager of our local store at the time gave us at no cost a Samsung Network Extender. It worked beautifully until about a month ago. I went to our local Verizon store and was told that I would have to purchase an extender. THIS is RIDICULOUS. We have been loyal customers for over 7 years and have been very satisfied with our service. Unless this issue can be resolved without purchasing an extender we will be switching our service as our lines come up for renewal. I regret this as we have been very happy with our service. But we should NOT have to purchase anything extra for one line that will not get good reception. Again, we pay $350+/ month for a service that does not work properly, simply RIDICULOUS! Currently the "sys" light flashes red (slow) and the GPS light remains red. Please help this very frustrated customer.

Regardless with what carrier your with you might have the same issue, My recommendation would be to get a router that will help you with viewing live traffic and keep a tally of your usage and any device connected to your internet connection.  You can go with the peplink balance 20 and be able to look at your traffic by the hour, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.  Look for trends, see what computers or devices are doing what I attached a screen shot so you can see an example of mine.  You can purchase the router at 3gstore
