If using Zone Alarm's browser virtualization or any other similar product or a sand-boxing program (i.e., Sandboxie), turn it off when updating Firefox or Firefox Add-ons. You can post on the forum for any such product that you might be using to get other instructions on the proper use of the product.

Had to uninstall Firefox as it stopped working. The went to website and downloaded Firefox once more. Pressed the .exe and the file went through the installation okay, but when I tried to open Firefox I get:

We downloaded firefox 5.0.1 last night, began working with it. It did fine. After about an hour, I turned off my computer. When I turned on my computer, I click on Mozilla Firefox and it won't start. I should have added, this popup relates to XULRunner. I suppose this is a support file that needs to run for firefox to open and run properly.
That can happen if the updater wasn't able to update (replace) all the files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

After deleting everything, I've also tried to reload 3.6.12 fresh and I get a totally different nss3.dll entry point cannot be found error.

I have been using Firefox for quite some time (years). It tried to upgrade Firefox and since then have not been able to get it to open, each time it comes up with that popup window, with my only option being to click on the OK button, which terminates the operation.

I tried some of the instructions for opening in Safe Mode but to no avail.
my first suggestion would be to reinstall. No uninstall, just run the installer again to replace any corrupted files (it sound like something may well be corrupted.)
