I think the tiny MySearchDial logo in the bottom left corner gives it away. That is one of your extensions. However, I believe it installs through the Windows Control Panel, so I suggest starting there.
Open Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. I suggest clicking the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some free software you installed. Take out as much trash as possible here.
In Firefox, open the Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that flush the page?

  • Firefox updated to 5. now when i want a new tab none of my previous pages come up listed like they used to how do I make it do that again

before updating to 5.0 today Firefox used to show me the most visited pages on screen when I pressed New Tab. now all I get is a blank page with a search box. Where can I get back the page listings like that used to show when New Tab pressed I couldnt find anything in Help? thanks

Note that you can also do this without an extension by creating a <b>userContent.css</b> file and placing code in this file to hide the search bar.

The customization files userContent.css (websites) and userChrome.css (user interface) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
*Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
*Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userContent.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
*Paste the code in the userContent.css file in the editor window
*Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
*Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userContent.css. Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userContent.css.txt file

  • New tabs, automatic selection not consistent

    Running Safari 4.0.1 on a 20" 2.16gHz iMac with OS X 10.5.7 with 4GB RAM.
Has anyone noticed this? My home page is Google (I don't like the Search box). When I Command-T to open a new tab, the auto selection is not consistent. If it is the first new tab that I open, the address bar is selected. For all subsequent tabs, the Google search box is selected. I would, of course, prefer that the Google search box is selected for all tabs. Why would Apple make this different depending on whether I'm opening tab #2 or tab #7? It should be consistent, first of all. In a perfect world, it would always select the Google search box first. Mouse-free browsing is the way to go.

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.<br />
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.<br />
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible to the left of it.
    * New tab toolbar button: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-toolbar-button/
If you click the new window toolbar icon or use Firefox > Tab > Open New Window then you always open a new window.

  • When I click my home page icon the tab this is open goes to my home page BUT another new tab opens.

when I click my home page icon the tab that is open goes to my home page BUT another new tab opens. How do I stop the new tab from appearing?

It's easy to add extra tabs to your set of home pages. You can use the Options dialog to make sure there is only one. These articles point the way:
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    * [[How to set the home page]]
Because the space is short, you may want to select the whole home page URL (Ctrl+A) and paste it into a document or into a larger textbox like the one I'm typing in now. You're looking for a vertical bar (|) that is followed by a second URL.
If it's not part of your home page setting, the most likely cause for this change is a bad add-on that rode along with some free software.
    I suggest starting here:
Open Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. Click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Then, in Firefox, open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible).
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Does that shut down the extra tab?

  • Can I specify a Web Page to open (i.e., a Home Page) when I create a new Tab?

When I create a new Tab, I get a blank page. I'd like the Tab to start-out with a Home Page that I specify - similar to the option that Firefox provides for each instance of Firefox that you start.

    Thanks,
Those "add-ons" or "extensions" are not working for me.
    Using Windows 7.
This has been going on for a while with me. 3 months ago I uninstalled FF then re-installed but it has same problems.
Found about:config but wasn't sure if there is a solution on that screen.
Uninstall again? Last time I uninstalled FF, I saved the bookmarks. But the re-install already had them in when I first opened. So I don't think i did that one correctly.

when I start a new tab yahoo search comes when I start a new tab yahoo search comes and I don't want that. how do I get a different web site to open?

You need to figure out what you have installed which changed that action to Yahoo from a blank tab, which is the default action in Firefox; and then get rid of that add-on. Then you can can install an add-on which allows you to select what you want in the new tab.

I had that too. On the bottom right of the AVG search page is a link which leads you to where you can switch it off. This restores normal Speed Dial operation.

  • Opening New Tab utomatically directs to unwanted site like yahoo.

When opening a new tab, the new tab automatically directs to a website such as Yahoo. This is an undesirable problem but may be useful to some who say always want to default new tabs to google or something else.

  • Firefox freezes when it recieves a "-new-tab" command

    Hello,
I am using a c# program to send Firefox some commands.Everything works great, but sometimes when I send a -new-tab command like:
    "firefox.exe -new-tab http://www.google.com"
Firefox freezes for few seconds before opening the new tab.I tried removing all the parameters from the command and just send "http://www.google.com" to the system while Firefox is set as the default browser, and the same problem arises again.
I also tried doing the same while Firefox is in safe-mode and still the problem appears sometimes.
How can I troubleshoot this and know what makes firefox freeze for those few seconds?.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello MahmoudJ,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. This is a really difficult issue and I'm not sure that this is the appropriate place to get assistance with it. Do you have the same results when you open Firefox through a command prompt rather than in your program?
You might have a better chance at getting an answer by posting on Stackoverflow under the Firefox tag. I've linked to their forum below.

wish you guys can help me... thanks

Make sure your extensions are up-to-date if you are expecting opening a new tab ("Ctrl+T") to show your home page. Firefox has no option to do that. (bug [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269664 269664]).
These are two extensions that can do that -- New Tab Homepage (7KB), or NewTabURL (47KB).

really i want make my Firefox customize :

    www.bbcarabic.com ....etc

When you open a new tab (or ''about:newtab'' in adress bar) you should have thumbnails of most used webpages. If you see white page, you should have button in top-right corner enabling this feature.
You can manage thumbnails, pin them or remove.

  • When i press the new tab button I land on yahoo. I hate yahoo, how do I change the landing page for the new tab button?

When I pressed the new tab button, I use to land on google. I downloaded something that changed my new tab landing page. I now land on Yahoo. I hate yahoo!. How do I reset my landing page so I land on google when opening a new tab in Firefox.?

''New Tab button brings up Yahoo, want a different page''
First I would identify everything in about:config that refers to Yahoo.
Then I would remove everything about the Yahoo toolbar that is left that you don't want.

    As a replacement for browser.tabs.loadOnNewTab (Bug [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269664 269664]), you may have installed: New Tab Homepage [-- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/777 --] (7KB), or NewTabURL [-- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2221 --] (47KB).

  • In Firefox v33, new tab page thumbnails are blurry and over-sized

Since updating to Firefox v33, my new tab page thumbnails are blurry. They are also over-sized compared to what they were before the update.

Firefox automatically adjusts the number of columns that fit on the about:newtab page if you adjust the width of the Firefox window or zoom the page in or out and no longer resizes the thumbnails.
The current release doesn't resize the thumbnails, but instead reduces the number of tiles to fit the current screen width, so you may not see the number of columns that is specified via the browser.newtabpage.columns pref.
Zoom out the about:newtab page to see more tiles.
Make sure that you have only one tab with the about:newtab page open.
