When to prefer Financial Plan Vs Form base budgets? Adv and Dis-advantage?

Hello Experts,
Can any one explain me the difference between Oracle projects financial plan vs oracle projects form based budgets?
What is advantages of each of them and when to provide preference over each other?
is it possible to use both of them simltaneously?
Does forecasting functionality available in both of them?
Need insight on this

Hi
Form based budgets are the only supported budgets for Budgetary Control and integration of project budget with GL budget.
If you are not using those functions, there is no advantage for the form based budget.
With financial plan you can load budgets using Web ADI.
You can use more robust resource lists.
You can use multi currency amounts
You can generate budgets and forecasts based on various sources like workplans, actuals, commitments and any customized logic using client extension.
You can report on financial plans using the HTML project performance reporting.
You can rollup budgets and forecasts amounts on a program.
Summarizations are done immediately and you don't need to run a batch process.

    I have a requirement where i need to be able to view a form showing periods across years that are dynamically built depending on the start and end dates. If i have a start date of 01/11/2009 and an end date of 31/7/2013 i want to be able to view a form that shows all of the periods (Jan,Feb etc) in a form that is driven by these dates, in addition it will need to show the actual scenario up to the current month and the forecast from the current month to the end date. So basically if a user inputs the start and end dates the form will display the relevant periods driven by these dates.

    This is difficult to realize, but you can get quite far with a workaround. The first question is, where do you want to input your selection of time periods? Assuming you have a webform with the complete timeline in months and years and you type in the start period and end period.
    Webforms have the option to suppress rows and columns.
    This can be extended with option of empty cells or not empty cells.
    You will need to apply your creativity on this.
    Put every month-year combination in a column and add the suppression.
    Calculate the timeline between start period and end period with a dummy member, so data exists for these and columns will show.
    Maybe you will need to copy the required timeline into a separate version for this, to avoid having periods which were outside the selection and still have data.
    I hope these hints help a bit in this challenge.

    If you use the Forms for budgeting you can setup various budget types, like approved cost budget, proposal cost plan, funded revenue budget, forecast cost, etc...
    For each one of those types you have the same functionality, and budget entry is just keying in the quantities and amounts on the budget form. You could automate the calculation of burdened cost based on the entry of raw cost amount, or that based on quantity. Such automation is done using the budget client extension, and that extension is called immediately as you key in the line value.
    With Oracle Project Management (PJT) a new entity was introduced called Financial Plans. A financial plan type is an enhancement of a budget type. The entry of financial plan is done on HTML pages. You could set up financial plans for Firm annual budget, for forecast, for funded revenue etc. With PJT Oracle also delivered a concurrent program called Forecast. That program can generate the plan amounts and insert them on the financial plan defined as parameter. Such calculation functionality is not supported on the Form based budgets.

  • Integrating Financial Plan types from Primavera to OP

    Hi All,
    We have the requirement of sending 3 financial plan types ( budget class financial plan) from Primavera to OP. And existing PIP functionality only supports the integration of a single financial plan types. How to go ahead on customising to send these 3 financial plan types using the functionality supplied by the PIP
    from Primavera to OP. Eg: One financial type is sent across from Primavera to OP when a project is created.
    At the end of each financial period, another financial plan needs to be sent from Primavera to Oracle Projects, which is effectively part of a forecast i.e. cost of work done to date.
    Any pointers/ guidance on how to go about the above?

  • Base salary deferral and bonus deferral benefits

    Hi All,
    Our Legacy system has only one inbound feed for benefits which has base salary deferral and bonus deferral. I am assuming in SAP it should have two Plan types with base Salary Deferral and Bonus Deferral with two benefit Plans in infotype 169. we are planning to use infotype 169. Can anyone advise, in SAP it requires two Plan types? Appreciate your help.

    The value of HCSLC in V_T511P table is 0.00
    I changed to 1.00 and it stopped catch-up contributions in the pay period when the salary is reaching the limit. But in the next payroll and/or for EE who has already reached the limit, I get the BIG RED line with no error message during IT0169 processing.
    The payroll stops at
    BAdI "Evaluate Ee Contrib" implemented
    Anyways, what should be the value for this constant so that it stop catch-up and payroll to work properly without issues after the limit is reached.

  • Is it possible to create financial plan for cost budget when ?

    Hello Experts,
    I am in situation where customer is currently using budgetory control enabled features and creating / maintaining cost budgets using oracle Form based budgets. Now after using for so many years, suddenly they choose not to use it. Instead they want financial plans to use for cost and revenue budgeting.
    When We have run UPG : Upgrade budget type process it results into no data found and cannot able to help me in upgrading financial plan.
    I think if the budgetory control is enable then we must need to create the cost budgets using Oracle Smart Forms. Am I rght?
    If I am right then what would be work around? As I cannot ask them to create a new project & close exsting project because lots of PO & REQ are still open.
    Lets say though they wanted to closed those PO & REQ and wanted to disabled budgetory control option on project they must need to diasable encumbrance acconting from Ledger. In that case what would be the overall impact? And what is gurantee whether system allow them to updgrade the budget to financial plan?
    Has someone trapped and escaped from such kind of situation ever before?

    Hi Dina,
    The patch is nothing doing great but disabling the flag from the table which in turns enabling the budget types to be upgraded to financial plans very smoothly. Once updgraded, the budgets values are easily available in financial plans for reporting and further processing.
    In this org, Customer is not using budgetory control functionality but in another org they are using it.
    What I have learn in this situation is had it been all the budget types been upgraded first and later use in budgetory control, this situation would not have been arrived.

  • HBR sequence on data form does not execute when Planning data form is saved

    Has anyone experienced this issue before in Planning? Below I have included the scenario and what has been attempted to correct the situation.
    We are using Hyperion Planning/Essbase 9.3.1, sequence contains 3 business rules - 2 executed on the Workforce Cube and 1 transfers totals from Workforce Cube to Main cube. 2 of the BR's contain run-time prompts - 1st BR in the sequence (calculation in Workforce) and 3rd BR in the sequence (transfer of Workforce totals to Main). We are using Projects to assign access priviledges to the BR's and sequences. All 3 business rules, as well as the sequence itself, validate successfully in the admin services console.
    In Planning the data form contains BR Properties to "Save on Exit", "Use members on data form" and "Hide prompt". Have tried removing BR from data form, then put BR back on data form. Also tried building a new sequence in EAS console and attaching that BR to the existing data form. Neither of these attempts were successful. Tried building an entirely new data form with the newly created sequence, still unsuccessful. Was able to execute the sequence successfully when processed from the Tools -> Business Rules menu. Sequence was once again successful when I tried modifying the data form to remove property "Hide prompt". Problem with leaving the form in that state is, our users would not know which Planning server they were on as they access the Planning application through Workspace and we currently have 2 application servers in this environment - so essentially they have a 50/50 chance of selecting the correct server.
    We have this same setup in another environment where the execution of the sequence on the data form works successfully. We have compared everything that I can think of and it all appears the same in both environments - in fact this used to be successful in this environment, but all of a sudden stopped working earlier this year - we have not applied any patches or upgrades to either environment. Do not know if this is relevant or not, but we do currently utilize Netscaler in both of these environments.
    Any experiences with this type of situation or suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated.

    I don't have a solution for you but more steps to solve the problem
    You are ultimately on the right track in some ways but break it down into it's components.
    The problem could like in the business rule, the form connection, the variables, even the order of operations could all be in play.
    So I would strip this baby down to its bare bones then build it back up.
    1) Run the business rule. Each one separately and only after the previous ones is complete without variables and without touching the form
    Is it successful: go to 2
    If it isn't successful: trouble shoot the calc and or try running in EAS natively to see if that gives you ideas
    2) Run the calc outside the form but with variables included. Did it prompt you correctly.
    Is it successful: go to 3
    If it isn't. What is wrong with the variable
    3) Now attach it to the form but don't hide the prompts
    Still good go to 4
    4) hide the prompts and run on save
    And if it fails on step four then it's not picking up the right variables in the prompt. And you need to look at why it wouldn't grab the right item.
    This will isolate your problem for you and give you steps to fix it. Ultimately 99% of the time something did change in the structure for example that is impacting the calc. And when you isolate the problem this will reveal itself quite quickly.

  • Script error when trying to edit Planning forms 11.1.2.1

    When I click Administration -> Manage -> Data Forms and Ad Hoc Grids, I'm getting an 'Object Required' script error.
    11.1.2.1, Windows, IE7.
    Any suggestions on where to start looking?

    Sorry I meant does it happen if you go directly to planning to see if it relates to workspace.
    Have you tried on a different machine, different IE version, does it happen if you try from the server.

    I am not totally sure what you are trying to achieve but if you create an essbase application in EAS it is a totally seperate entity from a planning application, so you can't just access it directly.
    The are many options on what to do but it needs to be clearer why you have to access the data from a seperate database.
    If there is a commonality in the dimensions then it would have been possible to create an extra plan type when you created the planning application, this creates an extra database as part of the planning application.
    The other options are to use XREFs to access data from one to cube to another.
    Another option would to use partitions.
    You could extract the data from one cube using an export or DATAEXPORT command and then load it into your planning database or use ODI to extract from one database and load it into the other.

  • User access to "planning " data forms

    hi
    iam newbie to planning
    i have two different doubts in planning
    i have created a application in eas called "blue " in eas console and loaded the data and retrieved in excel , iam able to see the data . mean while i have created planning application called "gt" and its created sucessfully, i can able to "gt" see in the eas console . i wanted to get the data from "blue" in eas into planning "gt" dataforms i created a user called "blue" in shared services console , i decided to give the privilege to "blue" in eas , i clicked on the default application to blue application but was nt there ,but it showing separtely , i clicked on that and assigned roles like "administrator" and cube creator and planner
    my doubt is that
    1: when i logon "gt " planning application and created dataform folder i want to access the essbase application "blue" data, but there is no user available in that dataform
    iam confused whether i should give privileges to default application or "gt " i find both of them in shared services console
    clearly my doubt how to link eas "blue" with planning "gt " and datas form blue should be retrived in gt dataform

    Hi,
    I am not totally sure what you are trying to achieve but if you create an essbase application in EAS it is a totally seperate entity from a planning application, so you can't just access it directly.
    The are many options on what to do but it needs to be clearer why you have to access the data from a seperate database.
    If there is a commonality in the dimensions then it would have been possible to create an extra plan type when you created the planning application, this creates an extra database as part of the planning application.
    The other options are to use XREFs to access data from one to cube to another.
    Another option would to use partitions.
    You could extract the data from one cube using an export or DATAEXPORT command and then load it into your planning database or use ODI to extract from one database and load it into the other.

  • Error while opening planning web Forms

    Hi ,
    I am facing the below error whenever I am trying to open the planning web form.
    "Target Unreachable, 'formManagement' returned null
    ADF_FACES-60097:For more information, please see the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #40"
    Could you please help me on this?

  • Can a Financial Plan Type be attached to more than one Project Template

    We are working on Project Accounting through Self Service pages. For doing the Cost Budget we have created a Financial Plan Type. We attached it to a Time & Material Project. But later when we tried attaching it one more template, a Turnkey Template, it does not give us the Cost Budget-Financial Plan type in the drop down box.
    Hence, wanted to know whether we can attach a Financial Plan Type to more than one Project Template??? If yes, then why didnt we get the option in the drop down box?

    Since you are not using Company code as the branch, and are using Profit centre as the branch, I dont think its right for you to set a default profit centre for any GL account in the Chart of Account for that company.
    all the SAP user in the company will be using the same company code to post, and thus, will be using exactly the same inventory account, if you set a default profit centre there, no point rite? You will need to implement a procedure to ask all the user to manually assign the profit centre during posting. Just like how we normally ask user to specify the company code before posting.
    The authorisation should be set by profit centre as well. hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Verbose EXPLAIN PLAN output when asking for explain plan on simple SQL

    Your user probably does have access to ALL_OBJECTS. But you need to have dba privileges to access views base objects.
    The "ORA-01039: insufficient privileges on underlying objects of the view" message is telling you that the user does not have privileges to access the BASE OBJECTS that used to build the view. Access to those base objects is necessary to generate the plan you are trying to see.
    So to circumvent this I log on as sysdba and get the second issue: the following extremely verbose output

    And that is because sysdba DOES have access to the base objects of the view. You asked for a plan and you got it. That verbose output IS the plan and all of those oddly named tables are being accessed to satisfy your query so are included in the plan.
    Do your query using DUAL or the SCOTT.EMP table and you won't get the error.

  • Planning Data Form Lock

    Hi,
    I am wondering whether the Excel Lock & Send mechanism can be implemented in Hyperion Planning data form. I am using 9.3.1 of Hyperion Planning. This means that when one user is working (writing) on the data form with the specific page members, the other users can only read the data form (or get some sort of notification) for the same combination only.
    Of course, one possible solution is to use the custom javascript to do so (I am not so sure how difficult this can be,either). Anyone got any experience on that?

    Like you said this would require custom java script. Additionally you would need a central location to store user states to be able to flip the read switch.
    Unless you are very good at javascript or someone provides you a custom script this is a non-trival exercise.
    Likely you would use the xmlphttprequest function, setup a custom web service and have it interact with a database to store user state.
    Implenting process, communication, and appropriate security is the manner to avoid people over-writing other values.
