When to use many dimensions or combine some.

Hi,
I'm after some advise on whether I should combine some dimensions. I thought I should combine them, but all the examples seem to prefer one key attribute.
I have student information which has gender, ethnicity, year level (with 3 level heirarchy), age and disability. Would you keep these as separate dimensions or does it make sense to combine say gender and ethnicity, which olny has 9 combinations. Should I also combine year level (15 values) which would still only give 135 combinations. Age only has 20 values.
There are only three other dimensions of date, school and course.
Is there any reason to combine or not combine dimension such that I have a student dimension or a gender, ethnicity, year level and age dimensions.
Your suggestons are most welcome.

I would keep one or two things in mind.
First off, for each fact table row, if you have 10 dimensions, then you're going to have 10 columns for the foreign keys that tie to the dims. Depending on the number of combinations, it's VERY likely that a single key would tie to a dimension with a few hundred values, thus taking 3 or 4 bytes storage per record. On the flip side, if you have 10 columns, you'll probably end up with 20 bytes of storage.
It's all a balancing game...but with the small numbers you've quoted, I'd tend to make the model "simple" and just have a single student dimension.

When I use "tabs from other computers," some of the tabs from the other computer show (7/11) and others don't, and going the other way, it keeps showing some tabs that have been closed.

Desktop is running Windows XP and laptop is using Windows 7. Both have the latest version of Firefox.
I press the Synch buttom before I press the "show tabs" button.

I think I may have solved the problem. I cleared the cache, and then the old tabs no longer appeared. I think the ones that weren't showing were tabs that were already on the other computer.
Haven't yet checked thoroughly.
I can't upgrade easily because I have HughesNet, which limits downloads. Last time I downloaded Windows upgrade to my laptop, I went over the limit and got slowed down to slower than dial-up. And as mentioned in question, I *did* press Synch Now before asking for tabs.
Also, if I did all the upgrades that various pieces of software want me to do, I'd have no time to get any work done.

i'm editing a stop-motion video. i have a big problem that with AEcs5 i never had.
when i use "time reversal layer" with some image sequence layer (but also with a .mov with alpha) AE become crazy:
sometimes he erase (or jump) some frames, sometimes he put frames from other image sequence that i didn' put in the timeline!!
if u see the image there is nothing here, and appears an image that i didn't put there!!

#Error & #Syntax when we are using merged dimension in BO4.1 SP3

Dear All,
We are using BO4.1 SP3 and Bex query as datasource.
When we are trying to take merged dimensions in Report block its giving #Syntax Error.
When we are defining variable with merged dimension, its giving #Error message and the merged dimension is deleted from the definition.
Please guide how can I use merged dimension.
Kindly let us know if there are some update required in the current BO version.

First things abt merge dimension is that merge is applicable only on dimension not on measures.
And other is dimension that are going to be merge should have same data type.
I think you should check these conditions then it will works.
Merge is nothing but full outer join between two data providers. It helps joining two result sets on webi level.
Kindly attach your screen shots so that it would be helpful.

We have used static dimensions to build reports / input schedules, but the data range remains empty when refreshing the workbook after the column - and row key ranges have been filled. There is definitely data in the application for the combination of the current view members and range members chosen. I have put 3 dimensions in the row key range and 4 dimensions in the column key range.
What are the common solutions for this problem ? I don't receive any errors while refreshing the workbook.

Have you checked security member access profiles to know that the user has access to that slice of data?
You might also double-check your data in BW by running the Shared Query Engine test program UJQ_SQE_TEST from transaction SA38 or SE38. Just select your AppSet and Application, along with matching in the filters the static members you've set in your report.
If you still have issue, try to replicate the issue with a delivered template report and confirm no data is shown.
Otherwise, please create a customer [message|http://service.sap.com/message] in the SAP Service Marketplace and report your issue as a potential bug. To expedite a solution it would be helpful if you detail the steps exactly for the Support team to recreate, verify and troubleshoot the problem.

Many plugin vendors haven't updated their plugins to work with x64, or you have to download a special x64 version (Flash and Java for example). Which plugins is it that you are having problems with?

You can publish your blog on any server but will lose the commenting capability. Anything you downloaded with the first Apple Id will forever be tied to it, and will always require it to update.
The question here is, why did you think you needed to create a new Apple ID? What was the problem with the first one?
To get rid of th old one, you'll need to delete everything you downloaded with it, and then sign out of the ID in several places around the iPad.
Go to Settings->iTunes & App Stores->Apple ID->Sign out.
Repeat the process, for Facetime, Messages, Mail and any other App you need to sign out of.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.
