When you publish a webpart what should the debugging server be set to?

Hi,
I am trying to deploy a webpart in Visual Studio.
First of all, it says which local site do you want to use for debugging? Should this be a SharePoint server on your local machine that you are using VS on which will be different from the remote server you deploy to? On my local pc there are 3 web sites
- SharePoint - 80, SharePoint Central Administration v4 and SharePoint Web Services. Which one should it be?
And if this is what you need to do then, when it comes to deploying the webpart, how does VS know where to deploy it to? Because the server will be elsewhere. Also should it be deployed to the app or web server?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,
It is required to do the web part development in the machine with SharePoint Server installed cause we will need to use the SharePoint Object Model in our development,
so please choose a site(you can use the “SharePoint - 80”) in the local server for “What local site do you want to use for debugging” option and the web part solution can be deployed to this site during our development.
Here is a link about
Create Visual Web Parts in SharePoint 2010:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff597539(v=office.14).aspx
If you want to publish it to other servers, there will be a solution package(.wsp) generated after we publish our solution, we can upload install this solution package
to a specific server as you want.

  • What should the multicast rate be set at?

what should the multicast rate be set at in the wireless options box?
mine was set at the default of 6 Mbps but could be set higher: 9, 12, 18 & 24Mbps.
Any care to explain what it does?
    Regards Simon

That sets the minimum date rate which is valid for a connection. If a connection can't maintain that rate, the connection will drop.
A side effect of setting it higher is that your usable range will decrease. You will need to be closer to the base station to maintain a higher data rate.

  • When you open multiple documents, what's the rhyme and reason for the order the tabs are arranged?

Hi, a student had a question and I honestly never thought about this: when you open multiple documents in Photoshop CS4, what's the rhyme and reason behind the order they're arranged in (left to right?). Sometimes they're in one order and sometimes they're in another, and it doesn't always correspond with the filenames or the order in which they were selected.
Thanks, hope someone can enlighten us. It's probably really obvious, but... !

My student says that's not exactly what she was asking. What she meant was, is the arrangement of multiple tabbed documents open within Photoshop (which one is furthest left, which one comes next to it, which one is furthest right etc) dependent on something? In what order they were opened, alphabetical, date created or what?

  • Does the file format differ when you Publish locally to hard drive vs. to the Connect Pro server?

I notice that when I publish locally to my hard drive to review a set of slides, I see a folder full of files. If I click on index.htm within the folder, I can launch the slides.
When I publish to the Adobe Connect Pro server, I merely see a url for the link to the course.
I'm not sure what this url link represents (as far as the file format is concerned):
Has the presentation been converted to different file format than what is published on my local drive? If so, what format is it in?
If  the presentation has not been converted, does the directory structured published to my local drive get replicated on the Adobe Connect Pro server, and the url is merely a link to the "starting file " within that folder (say, index.htm)?

The published output does not differ between publishing locally and publishing to Connect. The URL on the Connect server does, ultimately, point to the Index.htm or viewer.swf file.

  • How do I add silence to the beginning of a track? Before the 10.0.3 update, you could drag the region further into the timeline and it would automatically create silence before the track plays when you export it. What am I missing?

Before the 10.0.3 update, you could drag the region further into the timeline and it would automatically create silence before the track plays when you export it. What am I missing? How do I i do this in the current version of Garage band?

what is the problem? Can't you drag the audio region to the right, or is the silence at the beginning of the track missing?
You could mark the measures you want to export by the Cycle region. Then any beginning silence will be included.

  • HT1212 When you restore an iphone, what is lost and what remains the same

When you restore an iphone, what is lost and what remains on the phone?

IF you restore as new all data and settings are lost.  IF you restore from a backup then the phone willbe the same as it was as the phone from which the backup came
This is what is contained in a backup
iTunes will back up the following information
Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
App Store Application data including in-app purchases (except the Application itself, its tmp and Caches folder).
Application settings, preferences, and data, including documents.
    Autofill for webpages.
    CalDAV and subscribed calendar accounts.
    Calendar accounts.
    Calendar events.
    Call history.
Camera Roll (Photos, screenshots, images saved, and videos taken. Videos greater than 2 GB are backed up with iOS 4.0 and later.)
Note: For devices without a camera, Camera Roll is called Saved Photos.
    Game Center account.
    Home screen arrangement.
    In-app purchases.
Keychain (this includes email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords you enter into websites and some other applications. If you encrypt the backup with iOS 4 and later, you can transfer the keychain information to the new device. With an unencrypted backup, you can restore the keychain only to the same iOS device. If you are restoring to a new device with an unencrypted backup, you will need to enter these passwords again.)
List of External Sync Sources (MobileMe, Exchange ActiveSync).
Location service preferences for apps and websites you have allowed to use your location.
Mail accounts (mail messages are not backed up).
Installed Profiles. When restoring a backup to a different device, installed configuration profiles are not restored (such as accounts, restrictions, or anything which can be specified through an installed profile.) Any accounts or settings that are not associated with an installed profile will still be restored.
Map bookmarks, recent searches, and the current location displayed in Maps.
    Microsoft Exchange account configurations.
Network settings (saved Wi-Fi hotspots, VPN settings, network preferences).
Nike + iPod saved workouts and settings.
    Notes.
    Offline web application cache/database.
Paired Bluetooth devices (which can only be used if restored to the same phone that did the backup).
Safari bookmarks, cookies, history, offline data, and currently open pages.
Saved suggestion corrections (these are saved automatically as you reject suggested corrections).
Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).
Trusted hosts that have certificates that cannot be verified.
    Voice memos.
Voicemail token. (This is not the voicemail password, but is used for validation when connecting. This is only restored to a phone with the same phone number on the SIM card).
    Wallpapers.
    Web clips.
    YouTube bookmarks and history.
    * Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.

  • What should the"default behavior" be for WiFi network connections?

I Have been able to at least temporarily fix the plethora of problems encountered after downloading Mountain Lion to my 2009 17" MBP just ten days ago.  Thanks to the time and effort of so many posters that are much more savvy than me, I successfully executed the steps suggested in many of the posts and with good results.  It surely beats running down to the Apple store and being told that I am the only one with a problem.
Okay,  I've  realized that I don't really know what the default behavior of the WiFi network connection should be?
    Specifically:
Should the Wi-Fi drop down in Network always be" looking for networks", even though I am obviously on my Network?
Should the Wi-Fi be connected at all times even when your computer is in sleep mode- or deep sleep mode?  There have been so many problems with Wi-Fi dropping off, slow or hanging loads, etc.
I unchecked "ask to join networks, in Network preferences thinking it might stop looking for networks when it doesn't need to because I'm already on mine.  I do see my neighbors (four neighbors) in the drop down in Network.
How do you get into Time Capsule's settings, to check speeds, especially ping?  What should the ideal settings be?
How do you know if your DHCP license is renewed? I've heard that feature isn't working and may be the culprit to some of the Wi-Fi problems.
I'll look forward to your help in understanding more about this.  I've been in the support  area a lot lately, I've read plenty of definitions, and explanations of the different options to choose from in Apple's support area, but nowhere have I seen anything that explains what the default behavior should be or perform  like.
    Thanks, as always.

Generally, you don't want to tweak the wifi settings. It pretty much takes care of itself. The caveat to that is, of course, if you're experiencing problems.
The 'looking for networks' behaviour only happens when you log in, wake the mac from sleep OR when you click on the wifi icon. You clicking on it tells the mac  "I want to see what networks are available" - so it does a scan for you to check to see if any new networks have appeared since you last clicked on it (or woke/logged in). In short, if you don't want it to look for new networks, don't click on the icon!
Unchecking the 'ask to join networks' option only applies when your mac detects a new network (such as when it wakes) that you haven't already authorised; it'll ask you to confirm whether you want to join it or not. Otherwise, if the network is open it'll join automatically. You should keep this selected if you travel around with your Mac. It's a good idea to know what network you're on before you start plugging in passwords or typing other things into the mac.
There is a utility that you can use for ping and traceroute called 'Network Utility'. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right of your screen and type "Network' and you should see it at the top of the list. Hit 'return' to open it.
DHCP licences are normally renewed automatically by your router every 24 hours. Again, there's no reason to be messing about with that unless you're experiencing problems.
If you're experiencing wifi dropout, let us know, and we'll make some suggestions, but if you're not, you're best leaving your mac to manage the background processes. It knows what it's doing!

  • Recording external synth/drum machine - What should the highest peak be?

    Hi,
When recording the audio from an external synth/drum machine what should the highest peak be? At the moment I have been recording as loud as possible without clipping but is it better to leave a few DB of headroom if using compressors etc afterwards?
    Thanks for the help.

It is good practice with all audio tracking to have it peaking at around -6. I sometimes aim for around -9 when tracking.
make sure you are recording at 24bit. Your peeks can be -18 and you wouldn't suffer too much.

  • When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books

When I publish from ibooks author will the pages flip like my other books the preview only slides side to side

Pages continue to slide rather than flip for the horizontal orientation.  In the vertical orientation, the text scrolls up-and-down like a web page (again as shown in iBooks Author if you change the previewed orientation).  I'm not sure why Apple went with the different GUI for their textbooks, but its the same for the ones authored by the big publishers.  If you want to see what the format is like on the iPad, there's a short free textbook (Wilson's Life on Earth) and sample chapters from others available from the iBookstore.
On a side note, one interesting thing about using texts in the two different orientations is that the formating changes as well.  Figures that show up as larger embedded images in the horizontal layout are smaller images in the left margin in the vertical layout, at least in Wilson's book.

Update your Flash from Adobe's website.   If that doesn't work, tell the webmaster they aren't using a portable version of Flash that is as compatible with as many browsers as possible.
Please don't use all uppercase.  In internet etiquette it means you are shouting.

Hmm, let's ensure this is working as it should be! So what phone should be active on your account? Did you switch the devices online or how to did you activate the 5s? Please share details.

  • "get info" when you upload a CD - what does it mean "part of a compilation"?

"get info" when  you upload a CD - what does it mean "part of a compilation"?

If you have an album with tracks by different artists, for instance "Now That's What I Call Running", that's a Compilation of songs by different artists. (Presumably, they ran out of numbers )
So in iTunes, each track should be marked as Part of a compilation. When you see that box on a CD loaded in your CD drive, ready for importing, look at the Get Info for the complete album (by highlighting the album title on the left under Devices) and on there you will see a tick-box named Compilation CD which - if ticked - marks all the tracks as Part of a compilation. This becomes useful when the iPod and iTunes sort the album.
However - iTunes obtains the album information from a third-party database called Gracenote, which is compiled by the record label personel, artists and fans. Quiet often, you will find that an album of "Greatest Hits of <a band>" will be marked as a compilation. I don't think it is, and neither does iTunes. So if you are importing a "Greatest Hits of xxx artist" album, make sure that the Compilation box is off (no tick-in-the-box). Likewise, an album by "an artist", but with a guest artist on one or two tracks is not a compilation.
One final point; if you import a true Compilation album, with each track by a different artist, then once it is imported, make sure that the Album Artist field says "Various Artists". You do this by highlighting the complete album in your library and selecting File/Get Info/Info>Album Artist which is the box immediately below the Artist box and typing in "Various Artists". This will help you when sorting and searching albums on your iPod.
