Where is available memory displayed?

I'm sure this is a dumb one, but I can't find this information on Finder, "about this Mac", etc. I'm sure it is right under my nose.

Available memory (ie, RAM)? Go to Activity Monitor (in your Applications/Utilities folder) and you'll see a pie chart displaying used and available RAM.
If you meant hard drive space, it's shown at the bottom of every Finder window. You can also select your hard drive on your desktop, click cmd-i, and in the Get Info window, you'll see total, used and available space.

  • Available Memory displays 2 devices. Is this right?

Hi, I'm new to this format, and hope someone can help.
I've done a hard reset on my T5 after saving my data to my MAC.  Before adding anything back, I'd like to see if I've got a problem or am good to go.  On the screen that shows battery level and available memory, I'm seeing two devices, one reports 97% and the other 85%.  After doing a hard reset, I expected there be only one empty (but for OS data) device?   What have I done wrong, and more importantly, how do I proceed?
    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

CLose. The T5 has a built is storage card. Like an SD card built into the device. This shows as separate memory. One is the device itself, the other is this built in storage card. If you inserted a SD card, there would be three devices showing.

  • Solaris 10, wrong available memory  display. 16G lost.

    Hello.
I have a sunfire t2000 and has been recently upgraded with 16G of extra ram. Now prtdiag displays 32G Memory Size (32760 Megabytes) but after i reboot the server i only have 13G available RAM (prtdiag -a, top, vmstat) with any user' processes running or any zones running. 16G of ram lost :( . I googled for some info on how to setup new memory correctly with no success.
Do you have any idea why i can't use the whole 32G?
could you please help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Inaccurate display of available memory in Finder

Is there any way short of reinstall of Lion to fix an inaccurate display of available memory in Finder?

AFAIK, the Finder doesn't display memory information, only disk information. Details on what you're seeing where will go a long way in getting an answer.

  • Where is iMac memory going?

I have 4GB memory installed.  I have a program called Memory Cleaner installed.  As I use the comouter during the day, my memory gets used up and I end up with having to use the HD for additional memory.  Right now, for instance, I have Mail and Safari open, nothing else, and I show 202MB available memory.  THis is making my computer run very slow. Activity Monitor shows 1GB used for Safari, 484MB for Kernal (whatever that is), and 122MB for Mail., and then a bunch of other items. I cleared History and that didn;t make any difference. I clicked on Memory Cleaner and now I have 1.49GB availabe.  Without doing anything but type this thing, I have already dropped to 1.20 GB.  I think something is runningin the background, but I sure don;t know what it might be or where to look.
So how do I get my memory freed up?
    Thanks out there!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a few minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • How to make Manufacturer Information Available For Display in SC

    Hello,
We would like to make the Manufacturer Part Number and External Manufacturer available for display in the shoppng cart. Also, UNSPSC for that matter.  I know these are in the shopping cart as loaded from the external catalog but have not found anywhere in the HTML templates where they could be made available by uncommenting, like we did for Unloading Point. Are there provisions in the shopping cart to show this information?
If not, how would you accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Hi
We have done similar requirements in our past previous SRM implementations.
<u>It's not possible to enable the required fields - Manufacturer part number, External Mnaufacturer, UNSPSC, etc as these are not avaibale on the Standard HTML Templates of the Internet Service - BBPSC01 (using SE80 transaction).
You need to go for adding customer fields to the Shopping cart Item level in this case.</u>
Refer the following OSS notes which guides you how to create customer fields on the shopping cart ->
    <b>Note 458591 - User-defined fields: Preparation and use
    Note 672960 - User-defined fields 2</b>
Refer the following forum links, which will definitely help ->
<b>Custom UI fields on shoping cart
Add custom field in SC -Item Level
    Customer field integration
Derive GL code based on UNSPSC from catalog
Custom fields not display in SRM5.5 Basic Data Frame
BBPSC04 Custom Fields Addition Not working
How to chage the display name in SC browser for the custome fields?
<u>You can use several BADIs to map the data from Shopping cart to the Back end documents (Purchase Order, Purchase Req, Requistions, etc) using these Business Add-Ins.</u>
<b>Refer to the  BADIs using transaction - SE18.</b>

Note -> Please read the relevant Standard BADI definition documentation, before doing any coding for the custom BADI Implementations.
Do let me know, incase you face any issues.

  • ILife & iWork '08 Install caused dramatic loss of available memory...

I just installed both iLife & iWork '08 on my MacBook Pro laptop. It had approx. 24GB of available memory. After the installation I now have 2.51 GB of memory. I'm also now seeing "Your startup disk is full" error messages. What gives?

    Hi Don Wise;
You have overfilled your disk. With the free disk space as low as you now have you are leaving yourself open to poor performance and file corruption. I would start looking at moving files off of the disk to free up space.
You can download WhatSize to help you find out where the disk space is being used.
When you get some more free disk space you should boot from the install media and repair your disk. If you don't do that you will be leaving yourself open to strange problems in the future due to file corruption.

I see different people experiencing different memory size issues. What is the actual memory limit of an  object that can be pushed to Appfabric.
Can some one please help ?

Essentially what we are trying to do is the following.
we have different kinds of objects in our baseline. Objects of type CAO, Exposures, Limits that change everyday after close of business day.
We wanted to push these different objects in to respective named regions in the cache.
    Region Name     Objects
    CAO                   ienumerable<caos>
    Exposures           ienumerable<exposures>
    Limits                ienumerable<limits>
we have a producer that pushes this data in to the cache and consumers of this data acting on the data when its available.
Now the issue we are facing is when we try to push around 4000 cao objects (roughly in the size of 300MB when serialized using xml) ,we are getting the above error. Increasing the size on the client and cache cluster didnt help.
The other alternative we were thinking about is chunking and pushing because appfabric doesnt support streaming. We might be able to push this data successfuly if we chunk. But how about the consumers ? wouldnt they face the same memory issue when we use
    getallobjectsinregion ?
We thought if there was a way to figure out the keys in the region then probably the consumers can get one by one. However there is no such API.
The only option i see is using Appfabric notifications which msdn says isnt a reliable way.
    Please help.

  • Available memory decreases over time

    Hello,
I noticed that under ICS, the available memory decreases over time. After about 10-15 days of use without reboot, the available memory goes from approx 150Mb to 70Mb. It is not my applications that are taking the RAM but it rather seems that it is the OS itself that is using it.
Under the Settings>apps>running> the first portion of the memory (OS I presume) keeps taking more space. Then after 10-15 days, the phone slows down and becomes jerky. After a reboot, everything goes back to normal.
I can't remember if it was the same under GB. Anyone experiencing this?

Thanks for you replies guys. This isn't so great to have to reboot every so often. There must be a memory leak somewhere.
Invar, even if I close an app, there is still a bunch of memory that's taken by the OS that doesn't get released. It's ok that apps take RAM so that they load faster when I need them, but when the OS takes up all the RAM, then the apps have little RAM to play with and it becomes laggy.
I definitely won't be rebooting every day. I like my phone to just work and forget about it. In my case, I can probably wait about 10 days until it starts becoming laggy again.
Yea, I do miss phones of yesterday where they just worked (I'm thinking dumb phones, BB). Android is cool, we just need the bugs to be fixed. I hope 4.0.4 fixes that.

  • IPad available memory NOT consistent with available memory shown in iTunes and available memory reduced after a connected sync...doesn't make sense.

I was looking through my pictures on iPhoto on my iPad 2 and noticed in some of my albums there were duplicate pictures, but on iPhoto on my iMac there wasn't. I had also noticed that my 64GB iPad 2 had only a little over 14GB left for available memory. I decided to connect my iPad2 to my iMac and sync it with itunes but this time I unchecked Sync Photos. I was asked to remove photos which I agreed to. My intnet was to re-install my photos in hopes that I would no longer see the duplicate photos and quite possibly free up some memory. In short, none of that worked and instead the pictures remained on my iPad2 and my available memory jumped to 956MB. I then tried selecting a " Selected Events, Faces, Albums..." in the Photo section of iTunes but I did not select any albums or events or faces. The sync ended and I still had all of the pictures on my iPad2 with 7GB left of available memory showing on my iPad2 but now showing 12GB on my iTunes on the iMac.
I then tried to do a sync again, syncing all photos and the sync cancelled. I tried it again and it went through. This sync ended with 14GB of available memory showing on iTunes on my iMac, BUT on my iPad2 it showed 7.1GB.
None of this makes any sense. I guess I could have left it alone and viewed duplicate photos but if duplicate photos were causing available memory to be reduced, I wanted the memory to come back up for future use.
Also, I noticed that the amount of photos being synced has randomly changed on a couple of these occassions as if I had more or less photos to sync and I haven't. I'm not sure what would cause this either.
Where it says "Other" in the memory bar in ITunes on my iMac is 26.34 GB. Before I did the first sync it was a little over 7GB. What would cause the "Other" to consume so much memory? and what is "Other" Why did it fluctuate so drastically when I've made no changes to my iPad?
I hope I can get some help to this.
    Thanks!

"Other" can be the cause of this storage capacity snafu that you have going on with your iPad. "Other" is pretty much what it sounds like it should be with regard to what is stored on your iPad. It is "stuff" associated with apps but not the apps themselves or any other media. It consists of Safari Bookmarks and history, Notes, text messages, email messages, contacts, photos associated with contacts and items of that nature. It should not be anywhere near 26 GB and the fact that you have much is a little bit of a problem.
Sometimes the only way to rid your device of that bloated "other" is by restoring as a new device without using the backup. There could be something corrupt on your iPad and if you restore from a corrupted backup, you will just end up back where you started. Also, sometimes this issue is caused by syncing photos and while I don't know this for a fact, it might have something to do with the metadata associated with the photos that gets corrupted and then that might cause this "other" storage problem.
Take a look at some of these and see if something in one of them helps.

  • Available Memory in IMovie 6

I am starting a new project in iMovie HD 6. When I open it, it displays available memory of 3.65 GBs. I have 74 GBs available on my hard drive and the iMovie trash is empty. There is nothing left in the trash from other projects. How do I free up more memory for my new project?

    buzabman,
iMovie should report the available space on the drive on which your project is saved.
Do you have more than one disk drive?
    Matt

as i go to web sites, i can see the available memory in finder decreasing by almost 100mb when i go to different web sites. do i have a trojan horse. plus the internet seems slower since i let some bozos download a ufc fight they wanted to watch

I see from your signature that you have Norton Anti-virus. Get rid of it.
Norton Antivirus has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)
Also, you need to to update to OS 10.4.11.
And of course clean out your caches!

  • What affects available memory/how do I recover it?

What things affect my computer's available memory, and more importantly, how do I recover memory that HAS been used and is logically no longer being used?
When I opened Google Earth, my "Available" (as displayed in the "Macintosh HD Info" window) went from roughly 1.3 GB to 613.2 MB...and long after I closed it, it's still down to 613.2 MB. Does memory work such that it becomes available when the memory-hogging program is closed, or is it different? I had a similar pair of incidents last week; I used LimeWire once and when I quit, the available memory increased, but the second time I opened it, used it, and quit it, the available memory remained low.
I do have an external hard drive that I use mainly for pictures, but I'm having a hard time easily finding all the other things that take up gigabytes on my 55.89-gig internal hard drive. Is there a program that lists every single entity on my computer by size, so I can go through it and delete the big stuff I don't use?
    Thanks,
    -Andrew

You'll need to free up enugh space using cosmichobo's tip first before you can safely download and run Whatsize to help you find and remove enough unnecessary files to keep at least 5 GB free on the boot drive. It goes without saying, don't delete anything you're not certain of! Files in the /Users path are generally safe to trash; anything in the /System, /Library, /private, or other operating system paths should only be trashed if you're certain it's an unnecessary temp or scratch file.
As for why free hard drive space dropped when you opened Google Earth, the program likely needed more RAM than was available and so created a new swap file in /private/var/vm (swap files should be cleared when the computer restarts).

  • Allocation of available memory

How can I find which apps/documents/photos are utilizing my available memory?
    iPad3 with iOS7.1

Out of curiosity, why do you want to know? Are you experiencing some problem?
In answer to your question, there is no facility (that I am aware of) to display current memory usage.
