Which folder does Photo Stream use?

Where does iCloud Photo Stream store photos and push photos on the Lion?

As far I can see there is no user accessible folder. The images will just appear on the devices and applications that have Photo Stream enabled. You cannot delete individual images from the stream. You can delete all by resetting the stream from your iCloud account settings on the iCloud web site.
Remember that you must update iPhoto and/or Aperture to see the photos on your Mac.

  • Does photo stream use data on cellular?

While NOT in a wifi network, will viewing photos/videos on my iPhone use cellular data (Verizon)?

No Photo Stream does not use cellular data. If you go to Settings > iCloud > Photos, note that the Photo Stream on/off switch states: "Automatically upload new photos and send them to all of your iCloud devices when connected to Wi-Fi."
Viewing or editing photos has no impact on Photo Stream.

  • Does photo stream use up physical memory

I have backed up my photos to my hard drive and deleted them from my camera roll however they are duplicated in my photo stream. Is this using up physical memory on my phone

Photo Stream photos are only stored in iCloud for 30 days...to give you time to save to your devices. Of course if you've already saved these to your device then there are no longer temporary storage.

  • Does photo stream use storage space on iPhone?

Mine came with 13.5 GB, am down to 6.2 available, also, if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right? I want to delete them because my photo stream is a replica of my camera roll, and if it is using storage space on phone, well that's just a waste of space.

if i transfered all of my iphone photos to my photo library on my mac,it should be safe to delete them on phone's camera roll and steam, right?
Yes. Both iPhoto and Image Capture include an option to delete photos/videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete as with any other digital camera.
If you don't have another iOS device and you aren't interested in making use of the iPhoto option on your Mac to automatically import photos from your Photo Stream so you don't have to do this manually, you don't need Photo Stream enabled. Be sure to import from the Camera Roll often and/or back up your iPhone regularly without having Photo Stream enabled.

  • Running out of internal storage space! Want to make room by deleting photos WITHOUT LOSING MY PHOTOS! Can I delete the Camera Roll yet still keep my photos in Photo Stream?? Will doing this free up ios storage? Does Photo Stream auto delete ever?

Hello, I am out of internal storage on my Iphone 4 ALREADY (Just purchased 3 months ago!). I need to clear up some space so I can do updates and take new photos. I was thinking about backing up my Photo Stream to the icloud and then deleting my Camera Roll.
1.) Is this a terrible idea??? I do NOT want to lose those photos! But I NEED more space on my phone!
2.) Will deleting Camera Roll free up space (a sufficient amount? My Camera Roll is at 4.5 GB)?
3.) Will deleting Camera Roll delete my photos from Photo Stream also? It doesn't seem to.
4.)  Does Photo Stream ever automatically delete photos???
5.)  Is there anyway I can save the pictures from my phone to my computer??? I can see the photos on my computer when viewing them through Photo Stream, but those are not permanent, correct?
This is one of the most ridiculous, confusing and unnessacary things I've ever known! Why oh why can't we just have a good ol' SD Card??? (My Droid never ever ran out of storage and I had it for 2 years...)
I tried backing up my photos in Itunes, but I don't have a new enough version. I tried downloading a new itunes and it still tells me I don't have the new version.
I have been working on this for 4 hours, its 2:30 am and I am going to bed. I am sorry I had to ask, but I've been searching and searching and just cannot find the answers. Thank you so much for your help!
6.) Also, I haven't been able to find the videos using the Icloud or the Photo Stream either...
7.) Do you have to have your device (pc) synced with icloud to access the info you backed up from iphone?? Like can I show my cousin my photos at her house using her computer by just loggin on??? Or can I only view my contacts, calender, mail, notifications, and such?
8.) Where on the icloud would one find text messages or other saved info??
Thank you so very much for helping me!!!

What I would say is best is to import the videos and photos to your computer so that you can delete camera roll photos with a copy of them in your possession:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
In regards to backing up Photo Stream
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486:
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
"No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage."
However, you can do the tedious task of moving your camera roll pictures to photo stream by ensuring photo stream is turned on for your device and take a screen shot of each picture in your camera roll to move it over.
To take a screen shot, just press the "Home Button" and the "Sleep/Wake Button" at the same time while viewing the image.
1.)  It's not a terrible idea, it can be tedious though.
2.)  Deleting a bunch of photos/videos from a camera roll 4.5GB in size can definitely free up space
3.)  Photo Stream photos, as you said, appear to stay upon deleting the photos.  (Tested it personally)
4.)  Photo Stream has a limit according to:  (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4858)
Essentially, it won't erase your photos until you tell it to.
    5.)  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083  (As shown above)
6.)  To update iTunes, you must download and then "Run" the download you get off the website.  Otherwise you will just have an installer program sitting there not updating iTunes.
7.)  You can bring up your Photo Stream pictures anywhere you have Photo Stream capabilities.  For a computer at someone else's house, they would have to have the iCloud control panel (http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1455) on their computer and be signed into their Photo Stream and viewing your profile's pictures (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4379)
8.)  On iCloud, you can backup your text messages, but you cannot view them independently on www.icloud.com.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4859
"You get 5 GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails"
Hope some of this information helps!

  • HT4906 What does Photo Stream Do?

I'm just upgrading to Mountain Lion and not familiar with all the iCloud services. What does Photo Stream do? Can you limit the photos that go to iCloud storage? Can you allow some pics to be seen by others, but not all? etc.

There is no iCloud storage. Photostream is just a way of importing from one device to many. It never contains more than 1k photos or photos for more than 30 days - which ever limit is reached first.

You don't have to use Photostream. It's not a method of sharing with others.

  • Hi,   My photo stream used to work fine.  But after removing all the photos to separate folders in my computer, my new photos are no longer streaming to my PC.  They appear in the photo stream on my other devices - iPhone5 and iPad Mini.  It's just my PC

    Hi,
My photo stream used to work fine.  But after removing all the photos to separate folders in my computer, my new photos are no longer streaming to my PC.  They appear in the photo stream on my other devices - iPhone5 and iPad Mini.  It's just my PC that's missing the photos.
When I open the iCloud control panel, I cannot turn on the photos.  That option is ghosted.  I'm running on Windows 7 with iCloud 3.0.  Any ideas on how I can fix this?  All help is appreciated!  Thanks!

    Hi Kevinmvb,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.  It sounds like you may have moved your photos out of the Uploads folder where they need to reside.

  • Does Photo Stream copy onto your iPad?

Hi - My 32GB iPad mini is havind trouble with storage and It says I have 1,053 photos on it, this could be why I do not have much space left!
However in my camera roll I do not have this many photos, does Photo stream copy onto it?
    Thanks
    Tom

I don't use Photo Stream, but I think that they are copied onto your iPad - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486 :
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
You should be able to confirm by going into Airplane mode (Settings > Airplane Mode 'on') and seeing if you can still view those photos whilst the iPad is offline

  • Does Photo Stream support GIFs?

I'm trying to add a GIF image to my photo stream by putting it in the Uploads folder on my PC, but it won't come up on my iPod Touch. Does photo stream even support GIFs, and if so, any guesses to why it might not be working? It has worked with JPGs before.

Have you looked at this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486

does photo stream take up space on my iPod?

They may if you delete the photos from your Camera Roll album but leave them in your PhotosStream album.
Otherwise not. There is only one copy of the photos on the iPod but you can access it either from your Camera Roll or PhotoStream albums.

  • HT201077 Why does photo stream on my i phone have more of my pictures than photo stream on my mac?

Why does photo stream on my i phone have more of my pictures than photo stream on my mac?

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream on your Mac.

  • Does photo stream pictures take space on my computer

Only if you have iPhoto setup to automatically import the Photo Stream photos.
Otherwise they are just on the iCloud server and will be removed after 30 days.

  • Why does photo stream not work on 4g

Hi, I have a iPhone and a Mac and an iCloud account, but why does photo stream not work on 4g, but as soon as I connect to wifi, it send photos to photo stream, can please tell why it does not send photos to photo stream when on 4g, thanks.

The data requirements for sending potentially many photos can be too taxing/costly on a carrier's data plan.
