Which is the best channel to use - on overcrowded wireless network ?

Hi,
I've had my Airport Express network going for just over a year with no problems, until the last month when my neighbours have all got Broadband for Christmas and now my network is very unstable and I cannot play more than 2 minutes of music until the network disconnects - I have not changed anything in months because "it just worked."
I found a nifty utility for my iMac which shows other wireless networks and the strength of the signal.
Three other networks show up, on channels 1 or 11 they all have stonger signals than me even though they are 10 Meters away through brick walls (my closest neighbours do not have wireless, so I am assuming it must be at least two houses away in either direction.)
I have changed my network to run on channel 7 and iTunes now streams properly without regular drop-outs.
Now, I am wondering, my network is set-up as "hidden" and does not show up in the network scanning utility, so logically some of my neighbours may also have "hidden" networks - how can I tell if any of them are using the same channel as me ?
Anyone got any ideas or advice ?
Thanks

I use the 'iStumbler Spectrum widget', which shows me how much congestion there is. After identifying where the most congestion is, its simply a matter of identifying which of the channels without much congestion works best for you. There isn't really a magic formula, though trying different settings until you have a better signal to noise ratio is all I can suggest.
Also, remember that 2.4GHz phones can also cause increased noise.

  • To make an online interactive map that works with a reservation system which is the best application to use?

I make campground maps and do interactive maps through a third-party program.  I want to use something in CC that I can make "hotspots" or id maps that I can interface with a reservation system to show availability.  I want the interactive map to work on both mobile and desktop.  What is my best program to download and use?
I know html and css but have fallen in love with Muse. I am looking at the Edge Flow, Reflow and Edge Animate.  I just need some simple advice as I don't want to waste my time learning a program that doesn't do what I want...
    Thanks for any advice.

When you do not have to have it connected to the external monitor, just use the MBP on only battery power.  Fastest would be to watch video or play a game.  Any CPU intensive application will use the battery faster that 'ordinary' use.

  • I have 4 and 8 - but which is the BEST version to use for a big project?

I have a G4 Powerbook with iMovie 4.0 but have never been able to do a movie longer than about 35 minutes (the last step - burning it?). I also have access to a new Intel iMac that has iMovie 8.0 but I have heard this is a 'dumb' version. I have an important video project coming up - probably 60 minutes when all is said and done. Can I install 5.0 or 6.0 on the new iMac? Or should I get new software (Final Cut Express?). I don't know that I trust the Powerbook to pull this off but I do know the program. Any help advice, most welcome. Thank you! Lee

You can download iMovie 6 here (requires iLife '08)
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
iMovie 4 is capable of handling long projects. If you run out of hard drive space, that is a limitation. DV is 13GB per hour.
Or does your iMovie projects consist of an incredible amount of very short clips? iMovie 4 handles up to 999 clips or 999 still.
Why do you still run iMovie 4.0, when there is a free update to 4.0.1? (Or it was just a typo?)

    Merry Christmas

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • How to check which is th best method to use in LSMw and the file

    Hi all,
    I am new to LSMW,
Can know me when i get the file , how to check the which is the Best method ( Batch input, Direct input,BAPI, IDOC)  have to use in LSMW .
How to check the input file is completely filled and how to check whether it is correct and also how to Prevalidation check has to be done fior the file before uploading.
Can you provide any documents LSMW also Apprecited.
    Regards,
    Madhavi

    Hi Madhavi,
To check Correctness & completeness of the file:
    1. The input file structure should be same as source structure what you defined whicle creating LSMW.
    2. Check the following steps to assure the field mapping is done correctly.
    a) Maintain field mapping & conversion rule
    b) Check 'Display Read data'
    c) Check ' Display Converted data''
Please note LSMW is a tool, which will simply upload the data whatever you are providing. So you need to be careful while making your file and validate it outside SAP ( before upload start)

  • Which is the best software to convert dvd to IPad 2d

Which is the best software to convert dvd to IPad 2d

unfortunately discussing the breaking of the encryption that comes with commercial dvd's is prohibited in these forums. however a quick google search will get you to quite a few software providers....
on a personal note, i don't agree with the fact that we can't "legally" transfer dvd's because breaking the encryption is considered illegal, even though the "fair use act" has said that copying dvd's for personal use or for backup purposed is considered legal. it's just the software to do that isn't. i'm not one who would rip a dvd then make multiple copies to make a financial gain. i just want to be able to convert my "old" media into a format that meets my current needs.
good luck my friend on your search. i really wish i could help you more

  • What's is the best way to use iPhoto? I need to understand.

What's is the best way to use iPhoto? I need to understand.
I guess the iPhoto is only for people with 5,000 of personal photos.
Or even 200,000, but they can't use this app everyday.
I'm not talk about working as a photographer. They use Aperture.
They may use iPhoto like a family album that you take a look sometimes.
And don't care about putting photos from the camera or from internet everyday.
I have tons of music and I love iTunes 8, works great. So I tried but I can't stand iPhoto anymore.
I have over 173,000 photos. My goal is organize, have total control, crop in Preview and delete them fast as I can.
The iPhoto is too slow. And is not only about performance, more RAM... but the whole concept.
Finder is much better/richer/flexible to organize than iPhoto.
I'm not talking about the photographer workflow.
And I'm not talking about editing and all these great photo features, the search, and all the iLife environment. They are amazing.
When I'm iPhoto, I feel like a prisioner.
I can't open an album/folder/event alone just to take a look, without do lanch the iPhoto app with the all thousand photos together. And it's slow.
I can't use Quick Look there.
So, I'll use Finder for manage/crop/etc. But what's the best way to use iPhoto in my case? Put the best/key ones there to use in iLife/MobileMe? To do a more serious editing? I like the features: keywords/ratings/hidden photos/events... It would be cool this features in Finder.
    For example:
iMovie: Manage movies? NO. It's editng only.
iTunes: Manage music/small video/podcast...? OK. Editing the song? OK for tags/convert/artwork/equalizer... For music there's a GarageBand of course.
iPhoto: Manage photos? Yes and No.
I think Finder would kill iPhoto incoporating all the editing features in Preview and the rich manage in Finder.
Jobs said that no one care about iDVD anymore. They care about the web.
Using iMovie to export to MobileMe.
Maybe iPhoto become less important in a near future. With a better Finder+Preview Right?
Sorry for this long text with a short question.
    Thanks.

Your post demonstrates exactly why I keep saying that iPhoto is not the application for you.
It would be better an iPhoto organizing photos by words like when iTunes browse his music.
Why on earth would anyone want to organise photos by words? A list mode is entirely pointless in a Photo application. That's like having an old photo album organised with the photos facing inwards so you can read the back of the picture.
Again, this is a characteristic of a File browser. You don't want a Photo organiser, you want a file organiser.
And, in iPhoto, you can search by tags, effortlessly in either the search box or by using a Smart Album.
iPhoto always loads all that events and all the thumbs library to scroll, and I think it's overkill.
So, how is iPhoto to know which ones you want to work with today? Open a library, get the Library.
Would be better a Cover Flow option to browsing in Events.
You've obviously never tried scrubbing along the Event icon.
Imagine iTunes using Cover Flow mode all the time. It won't be too useful.
Many, many people do, including myself on a library of 20k tracks totalling more that 100 gigs, and find it very useful. Same with the Finder.
And if when iTunes Store starts to sell photos?
Why on earth would the iTunes store start to sell photos?
    My photos are not junk,
I didn't say there were. Read my post again.
When I said Finder to crop photos I mean Preview. But I feel in Finder. Because what's in Preview? A photo opened with a Preview's menubar and some cocoa APIs like adjustments. Not?
Oh, so you don't count Preview as an application. Fine. It is an application but you don't feel it. As you wish.
My point to you is very simple: Because of the way you want to organise your pics - using lists views and so on - iPhoto is not the application for you. Don't use it. But you keep writing things about the application that are untrue, and I'm aware that other folks search these forums and I don't want them to have inaccurate information about iPhoto.

  • What is the best format to use on an external hard drive so I can both back up my Macbook Pro and also put movies on it from another hard drive (PC)?

I am looking for a solution to whether if it is best to get two hard drives or one that can do two things that I want.
I am looking for a hard drive format that can both back up my 500GB Macbook Pro but I was also wondering if I could also put movies on it from another hard drive that is PC based. Would partitioning the hard drive work for this? I don't know what are the best formats to use.
If this is too hard it might just be easier having a separate 500GB hard drive for back up of my Mac and another bigger hard drive for the movies etc (the files are probably bigger than 4GB). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to make a decision soon!

    Csound1 wrote:
Microsoft has not released the official exFAT file system specification, and a restrictive license from Microsoft is required in order to make and distribute exFAT implementations. Microsoft also asserts patents on exFAT which make it impossible to re-implement its functionality in a compatible way without violating a large percentage of them.[13] This renders the implementation, distribution, and use of exFAT as a part of free or open-source operating systems or of commercial software, for which the vendors could not obtain a license from Microsoft, not only technically difficult, but legally impossible in countries that recognize United States software patents.
Can't help with that, if one is using a Windows machine then they are subjected to their rules and control.
Limited support outside Windows and Mac OS X operating systems as of 2012, when most consumer electronic devices could only handleFAT12/FAT16/FAT32, rendering exFAT (and flash memory formats using it) impractical as a universal exchange format.
The OP said they plan to store movies on the external drive.
Many movies today are well over 4GB in size, thus exFAT has to be used and formatted on the PC, which the Mac can then read.
Older Windows NT versions up to Windows Vista without Service Pack 1 do not support exFAT.
Irrelevant, Microsoft provides a free download of exFAT for Windows XP, and Vista shouldn't be running on pre SP1 anyway.
Some distributions of Linux have begun to include support for exFAT. It is however, only available as a file system in user space, as it's not supported by the kernel.
Irrelevant, OP is using Windows and OS X, not Linux and if they did Linux can read the files at least and transfer, which is all they care about really.
Windows Vista is unable to use exFAT drives for ReadyBoost. Windows 7 removes this limitation, enabling ReadyBoost caches larger than 4 GiB.[14]
Irrelevant, the OP's is intending to use it as transfer drive between Mac's and Windows for movies.
The standard exFAT implementation only uses a single file allocation table and free space map. FAT file systems instead used alternating tables, as this allowed recovery of the file system if the media was ejected during a write (which occurs frequently in practice with removable media). The optional TexFAT component adds support for additional backup tables and maps, but may not be supported.
Some relevancy, but only exFAT can handle 4GB+ files between Mac's and PC's, so the need outweighs the possible problem.
The OP needs to follow the standard Windows practice of "safely removing hardware" before physically disconnecting the external drive. If a write is occurring, it won't allow disconnecting until the write is finished.
Support for up to 2,796,202 files per subdirectory only.[1][nb 3] Microsoft documents a limit of 65,534 files per sub-directory for their FAT32 implementation, but other operating systems have no special limit for the number of files in a FAT32 directory. FAT32 implementations in other operating systems allow an unlimited number of files up to the number of available clusters (that is, up to 268,304,373 files on volumes without long filenames).[nb 4]
Not a issue, only in extreme cases of a lot of small files. The OP plans to use it for movies which are usually large and take up a lot of space on the drive.
IMMO It looks like you just ran off and copied something to argue your point when all the points are basically irrelevant.
There is only one format that can easily share 4GB sized files between Mac's and PC's without further complications.
It's ALSO possible to install MacDrive on the PC and format the drive on the Mac HFS+, but I didn't recommend that because I know it's a hassle just like third party NTFS writing software is a hassle on Mac's.
If you so anti-Microsoft format, then you must know Paragon has to pay a license fee to Microsoft for using the NTFS format.
At least with exFAT there is no fee to Redmond, at least not yet.

  • Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's?

Does Adobe Reader for iOS have the ability to open inbedded links created with Acrobat Standard to additional PDF docs?  If not, then what would be the best way to use these already created PDF's on an I Pad?

    driddy61,
As of June 2014, none of the Adobe Reader mobile products support the hyperlink action for opening a separate PDF document.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Adobe Reader for Android
Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8
In addition, the Reader mobile products do not open multiple windows/documents simultaneously, which would make the navigation between PDF documents nearly impossible. (Once a hyperlink takes you to a different PDF document, you have no way to go back to the original PDF document.)
The only Adobe Reader product that fulfills your department's requirements is Adobe Reader XI (mostly for Windows/Mac desktop/laptop computers).  Acrobat Pro and Standard are paid products.
Because you are in search of a less expensive device for your department, you could get a Windows tablet instead of a Windows desktop/laptop computer. Microsoft Surface Pro (that you've mentioned in your previous reply) is just one example.  You can also find other less expensive Windows tablets.
    Tablets
However, please keep in mind that there are two different types of Windows tablets running two different operating systems.
    (a) A Windows tablet with an Intel-based processor running Windows 8.1 Pro
    Example: Surface Pro 3
You can install and run traditional desktop apps (e.g. Adobe Reader XI) and new Windows Store apps ("Modern" or "Metro-style" apps).
    (b) A Windows tablet with an ARM-based processor running Windows RT 8.1
    Example: Surface 2
You can only install and run Windows Store apps (e.g. Adobe Reader Touch) but not traditional desktop apps like Adobe Reader XI.
In general, type (b) tablets are more affordable than type (a) tablets.  However, if you want to run Adobe Reader XI, you do need to check the technical specification of each tablet and make sure the following conditions are met.
    Processor: Intel
Operating system:  Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 8/8.1 Pro, not RT
Hope this helps you choose the right device for your department.  Please let us know if you have any questions about system requirements or supported features in the Adobe Reader products.

i have an Apple USB SuperDrive, would like to know which are the best Blank Discs to use please, I live in the United Kimgdom

I don't use so many disks nowadays but when we do, I really only try to make sure they are a recognised brand (Phillips, Maxwell, TDK etc etc), technology has moved on from having to worry about which you use. I would avoid brands you've never heard of though.

  • Which is the best antivirus and spyware for Mac?

    Good morning,
Because of schoolwork and extracurricular activities, I am constantly sending and receiving e-mails and messages to and from PCs and other Apple devices, like IPads. Two years ago I purchased a 120,12GB MacBook Air and, until a few months ago, it went perfectly well.
I am not sure what happened, but lately, every time I go online, whatever I click -whether it is a random letter in a website, or a blank space in a page, anything- an advert appears or a new -unwanted- tab opens with publicity and such, the kind of additional tabs that open when you are watching movies online in a random website, but this time, it is happening with every website (even the Apple site) and almost constantly. I suspect it is something I downloaded or maybe something I received from an infected PC that I got a virus or problem from.
I tried using the MacKeeper software, but it is not working for me (?). Also I tried blocking pop-ups (I use Google Chrome), Java Script, automatic downloads, complements and everything I could when going online, but it has not gotten better over the last 9 months. My parents also recommended me a very good technician, who I personally know and has solved many of my previous problems, but he could not help me, in this situation.
For that reason, I have been considering either purchasing a good antivirus for my Mac or a new Mac and an antivirus for it, to prevent future problems like this one.
Either way, the question is the same,
Which is the best antivirus and spyware software for Mac?
Thank you so much for your attention.

Please get rid of MacKeeper, as it and most other such junk software will do more harm than good.

  • Which is the best practise?

    Hi team,
I'm trying to insert data to mysql.
And using a simple jsp to take the data from the user.
And in my servlet I'm using the following code to store data.
                        String fName = request.getParameter("firstname");
                        String lName = request.getParameter("lastname");
                        String email = request.getParameter("email");
                        Emp emp = new Emp();
                        emp.setFirstName(fName);
                        emp.setLastName(lName);
                        emp.setEmail(email);
new DAO().insertData(emp);upto this every this works great.
But I don't like the above code.... for every time I need to use request.getParameter("XXXXX")
If I have 20 fields then do I need to fetch these details for every time??
Or I need to use simple array/hashmap/hashtable+forloop to retrive and store the data.
So can anyone suggest me the best way to use in this case.
If anybody provide the simple code that will be a great help to me.
    thanks in advance.

To do that (easily), you want something that binds your HTTP get/post values to a Java object. Just about every framework that I know of does this for you. There is everything from relatively lightweight: http://wicketwebbeans.sourceforge.net/. To something most developers are familiar with like http://struts.apache.org/2.x/index.html. Or if you want to learn Spring (a good thing, IMO), http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/2.0.x/reference/mvc.html.
You can write your own binder (say, by using reflection). Or you can take something that serializes and deserializes (JSON, which is used in Ajax and Javascript extensively). It's really up to you.
What you are doing right now is the basic or low-level way of interacting with HTTP. The above make the task significantly easier, but there is a bit of a learning curve. There are lots of articles comparing different frameworks, here's one place to start: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model%E2%80%93view%E2%80%93controller

  • Which is the best DVD RW?

    Hello,
I am planning of buying a dvd rw and I don't know which is the best right now. I am planning of spending about 100 - 150 dollars. I am going to place the Dvd Rw into an ide that supports Ultra DMA mode 1 so I don't actually want the best one, I just want one thats going to get my job done. Can anyone give me any clues about what is the best option for me? Can you please give me any details?
    Thanks,
    PhanosP

    Hi PhanosP
    1) ""First I am concerned about the ability of any DVD drive to play all the regions. Is this drive able to play both region 1 and region 2 or it has to be patch.""
As far as I know, all drives manufactured over the last couple of years use region settings.
The free software program DVD Genie may fix this, so you can play DVD's from another region. For this and other progs, please see http://www.doom9.org/   There you may find loyes of info on this topic and anything you mighty want to know about burning DVD's
Please also read other topics in this forum like:
    "" RegionfreeDR4-A"" or
    "" MSI DR4-A Region locked""
If you want the region setting removed entirely from your drive, indeed you will need a patch (probably a patched firmware update). I myself don't know where you might find this, so you might need to browse the internet. (Maybe  also somewhere on the http://www.doom9.org/  site. Or perhaps another forum visitor may know the answer. I myself did not bother searching yet, as I never encountered problems reading DVD's sofar.
Furthermore: Also some (freeware) programs (like DVDdecrypter) used for decrypting DVD's >You need them if you want to rip/ copy copyrightprotected DVD's
    2)
""Secondly the reviews are almost 3 moths old. Aren't any newer reviews with some newer drives like the one you are using.
You'll have to browse the internet to find newer reviews. Unfortunately not much reviews are as good as the ones on Tom's site. Because Tom's cover so many products and produce so many articles, they only make reviews of DVD burners from time to time. I did not see a good review of recent drives yet. If you find one, please tell me! I'm also very curious about the review on my MSI DR4-A drive, as it pleases me okay.
    Good luck !
    Sjaak
    Kind regards,
    Sjaak
