Which log file contains System.err output?
If I start weblogic using startWebLogic.cmd then output sent to System.err gets
output to the console window that opens up. However, if I instead start weblogic
as a service, nothing sent to System.err gets output to the weblogic.log file.
Where does it go?
Hi there,
My message was borne of 2 days frustration out of nearly a year of smooth operations with Oracle App Server. Unfortunately I let my mouth (or fingers) run off with those frustrations and made a post that was innappropriate and un-necessary and like every bad workman I blamed my tools.
My apologies for that. Having found where the OPMN logs are stored (and it's pretty obvious to anyone who isn't seeing through a red mist!) I have now fixed my issue pretty quickly.
Thanks for your patience glin - OAS and JDev together have in this past year have served me well and as you say are in general pretty straight forward to use. (My frustration was due to J2EE ClassLoaders, they always cause me some kind of headache somewhere!)
Best Regards,
Happy Holidays!

System.out.println in which log file
We are using weblogic 51 server.
We have System.out.println's in the servlets but don't see
it in any log file. Which log file would/should
it go to.
If you are running a shell script (not as as service) you will see it in
that shell window, if you run it without a console window (service), you
usually see nothing.
If you are using a third party tool to run the server as a service (e.g.
ServiceMill for Win2k/NT) you usually can set files where you would like
your output to be redirected.
If you run the server as a service and don't have this option you can do
it yourself by setting System.setErr / System.setOut, e.g. in a
startup-class

[Feature Request] Seperate tab in log window for System.err
By default, the stack traces of exceptions (and throwables in general) are printed to the System.err stream. So, wouldn't it be useful to include a 2nd tab for System.err messages?
It could be optional to either include or leave out the System.err output in the System.out tab.
The whole idea of this 2nd tab is to set it up like the search output tab: a tree-like list which can be expanded to see the stack trace of each exception that occured during runtime. A small parser can parse the stack trace when an exception is printed on the System.err stream and format it.
If this option would be availble in the debugger only, that would be ok too, I guess. Although, the debugger already has some other means of jumping through code when an exception is thrown (ie, when the debugger 'pauses' runtime).I've logged an Enhancement request to improve the handling of System.err messages (2811508). There are ways to enhance the treatment of System.err messages without introducing a new tab, through the use of color, links back to the source code, and collapsing of entire stack traces to a single line (with a button to see the entire trace).
Thanks!

How do I redirect System.err output in iPlanet 4.1?
All,
I've been trying for days to redirect System.err output from a Java program
to a log file. I followed the instructions here:
http://knowledgebase.iplanet.com/ikb/kb/articles/4790.html
Unfortunately, nothing has been written to any of the log files (even though
I have plenty of System.err.println()'s in my code).
Anyone else get this to work correctly?
Thanks in advance,
--BillHi,
What is the product web server or application server ? If it is application
server then I'm very sure that this output will be seen in the kjs log file in
Unix and in the command window in Windows NT/2K, only if you have allowed the
process to interact with desktop. Please let me know if this answers your
question for me to help you further on this.
Regards

I have seen this on all instances of OSB 11.1.1.4.0 to which I have access (all on Windows: desktop Win7 and server 2003R2).
Googling hasn't explained this to me: what this really means; why it occurs and what actions (if any) are needed to rectify this situation.
Can some kind member of this forum clarify things, please?Hi,
Do you mean that when you remove the user’s workstation computer accout from AD then re-add it, the user still can use these "elevated" privileges to access other user directories?
Please check the permssions of the user directory network share on the user’s workstation to see if the permissions are the same with other worksatations. If you enable the offline files on the user’s workstation, please also disable the offline files to check
the results.

Has 903 oc4j fixed / added rotating log files; -out and -err ?
To be 24/7 an appserver needs to at least support managing the System.out traffic
that apps, frameworks (BC4J) spew.
It was suggested that 903 OC4J will support rotating log files?
Is this true and any help or doc pointers would be great.
BTW, I'm moving to 903 enterprise with OEM.

Thanks, curt Curt - there is no way in 903 to rotate log files for a specific OC4J instance.
There is a feature request in place for this functionality but I am not sure which version it will be delivered with.

Which log file can be removed safely?
The directory /private/var/log uses about 4.5 Gig of disk space, about half of which is used by /private/var/log/asl.
My question now is: which of these can I delete?
I assume, I can't delete the files *.log.
But what about *.log.bz2 - they should be OK to delete, shouldn't they?
And what about the files in /private/var/log/asl ?
Thanks a lot in advance for all insights.

Is there any way I can make these scripts also run, say, once a week during the day?
Best regards,

You're welcome. If the computer is not shut down, they are set to run in the middle of the night, or when the computer next wakes up. It's really easy to run the scripts in Terminal. Look in Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) for that runaway process. -

Hi Guys,
I encountered this error, when I stop the my defined collection set and try to see the related report in Performance Monitor. I searched on the Internet says that a fast start/stop man end without enough counter data being collected. However, it seems not
the case in my scenario. I set the sample interval to 15 seconds (default) and run the collection set more than 1.5 days.
By the way, I monitor the Windows Server 2008 SP1 server on a remote Windows 7 SP1, both of them are 64-bits. Only general performance counters are added such as CPU, DISK related. I am looking forward to your help. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I forgot to say, I set up a same data collector on the local computer (Windows 7 box), this does not happen. So, I believe I must has some configuration issues for remote monitor.

It works locally but not remotely. I monitor Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (Enterprise 64-bit) remotely on Windows 7 SP1 (Ultimate, 64-bit), I start PerfMon using a domain account which is local administrator on both server boxes. I get a .cab files
for each data collection set, size from 1KB to 3KB. The sample internal is default 15 seconds and I believe the data collection set was started for more than 15 seconds or even hours. Here are steps to reproduce this issue:
On Win7 box, open performance monitor (PerfMon)
Connect to the remote WinSrv box
Create a data collection set, and add the following counters using default 15 seconds sample internal
Processor(*)\% Privileged Time
Processor(*)\% Processor Time
Save and Start data collection set
After more than 15 seconds or even hours, I get the above error message.
Thanks in advance.

I am looking for any kind of incompletion log that will give more info about what is missing etc.,
Where can I find such a log. Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Just check this path.
Go to sales order->Edit->Incompletion log.
This tells your docuement status. If at all your document is incomplete, you can just see what all you are missing.

OPMN system.out and system.err log rotation?
I would like to rotate the log generated by OPMN by default for system.out & system.err, which is named:
OC4J~APPNAME~home~default_island~1
I see the entries in the opmn.xml file for the ons.log and ipm.log which ARE being rotated properly. I've read that you can redefine the log file for system.out and system.err, but can't find any about rotating these logs.
Does anyone have any info about this topic? If anyone's curious and is trying to do this themselves, I eventually asked Oracle, who stated it could not be done.

Parse log file using powershell
Hi,
Am pretty new to Powershell and would require anyone of your assistance in setting up a script which parse thru a log file and provide me output for my requirements below.
I would like to parse the Main log file for Barra Aegis application(shown below) using powershell.
Main log = C:\BARRALIN\barralin.log
Model specific log = C:\BARRALIN\log\WG*.log
Requirements :
1. scroll to the bottom of the log file and look for name called "GL Daily" and see the latest date which in the example log below is "20150203"
note : Name "GL Daily" and date keep changing in log file
2. Once entry is found i would like to have a check to see all 3 entries PREPROCESS, TRANSFER, POSTPROCESS are sucess.
3. If all 3 are success i would like to the script to identify the respective Model specific log number and print it out.
E.g if you see the sample log below for "GL Daily", it is preceded by number "1718" hence script should append the model log path with "WG00" along with 1718, finally it should look something like this C:\BARRALIN\log\WG001718.log.
4. If all 3 items or anyone of them are in "failed" state then print the same log file info with WG001718.log
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thank You.

Hi All,
I was writing a function in power shell to send email and i was looking to attach lines as and when required to the body of the email. but am not able to get this done..Here's my code
Function Email ()
$MailMessage = New-Object System.Net.Mail.MailMessage
$SMTPClient = New-Object System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient -ArgumentList "mailhost.xxx.com"
$Recipient = "[email protected]"
If ($MessageBody -ne $null)
$MessageBody = "The details of Barra $strsessionProduct model is listed below
`rHostName : $localhost
`r Model Run Date : $Date
`r Model Data Date : $DateList1
`r`n Click for full job log"+ "\\"+$localhost+"\E$\Local\Scripts\Logs "
$MailMessage.Body = $MessageBody
If ($Subject -ne $null) {
$MailMessage.Subject = $Subject
$Sender = "[email protected]"
$MailMessage.Sender = $Sender
$MailMessage.From = $Sender
$MailMessage.to.Add($Recipient)
If ($AttachmentFile -ne $null) { $MailMessage.Attachments.add($AttachmentFile)}
$SMTPClient.Send($MailMessage)
$Subject = "Hello"
$AttachmentFile = ".\barralin.log"
$MessageBody = "Add this line to Body of email along with existing"
Email -Recipient "" -Subject $Subject -MessageBody $MessageBody -AttachmentFile $AttachmentFile
as you can see before calling Email function i did add some lines to $MessageBody and was expecting that it would print the lines for $MessageBody in Email Function along with the new line. But thats not the case.
I have tried to make $MessageBody as an Array and then add contents to array
$MessageBody += "Add this line to Body of email along with existing"
$MessageBody = $MessageBody | out-string
Even this didnt work for me. Please suggest me any other means to get this done.
THank You
