Which Logic Prefs files to trash?

Hey guys,
After days of major problems (which I won't mention to keep this post short, but will describe if anyone wants to hear), I want to try trashing (or moving to the desktop) the Logic preferences file.
But in looking in the user library prefs folder, I see three Logic prefs files (two of which I don't recognize or know what their purpose is), as well as two "lockfile" files (the purpose of which I don't know either). The files are:
com.apple.logic.pro.LSSharedFileList.plist
com.apple.logic.pro.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile
com.apple.logic.pro.plist
com.apple.logic.pro.plist.lockfile
com.apple.logic.pro.plist.vEpPxvH
So, can anyone tell me if I should delete (or move to the desktop) more than just the com.apple.logic.pro.plist file?
Thanks for any help or thoughts.

Lockfiles described here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20093292-263/lockfiles-and-other-plist-file -subtypes-in-os-x-lion/
Other file with numbers is a temp.
So the com.apple.logic.pro.plist is the one

  • Spotlight and pref files and trash

In Tiger, serchin' with spotlight, results including files in trash, in preferences folder etc., and these is usefull to deleting application (with prefs, files in application support etc.).
In Leopard, spotlight find only the application and nothing else, no prefs, no .dmg trashed in advance, nothing else.
What do i have to do to have back an usefull spotlight?
    Thanks in advance

Use CMD+F, click Kind, select System Files, click don't include button, and select include. Put a search term in. Save the search and use it any time you want to search everywhere. Alternatively, customize it and you can use it to replace the default_smart.plist buried in the Finder.app for all your searches. • I had to trash pref files when upgrading to Logic 9

Started with Logic 7 three years ago...
So yesterday I upgraded to Logic 9 from 8, and I had two unusual problems.
First, when I would record a track, the waveform overview wouldn't draw. It would make the blue box, with a line down the middle, and I had audio, but no visible waveform. If I manually prompted Logic to redraw it, it would...
But then on subsequent tracks they wouldn't have a waveform either. Now it's pretty common for Logic to ignore rendering these while you're actually recording something. It's focused on getting your audio on the drive... but as soon as you stop, it will immediately display your waveform and that wasn't happening.
I also was getting a "disk too slow message". I was recording to an internal drive and I have recorded multiple tracks simultaneously with Logic 8, so a single voice track shouldn't have made a difference.
Repairing permissions seems to have stopped the "disk too slow message", and as far as the waveform overview, I trashed the pref files. (Logic will make new ones when you relaunch it) That seems to have fixed the issue.
I went through something similar when they came out with 8. I actually had to delete the old program and do a complete re-install.
Having gone through that, which isn't much... Logic 9 looks really good. Some great new features...
Here's a question: How can we get Apple to give us a .pdf manual? Is there someplace we can put in the request?
Based on what I've seen, that's the biggest disappointment everyone has!

  • Which Logic Express Preference File to delete?

In my user/library/preferences there are 2 instances of logic preferences.
One resides in the u/l/p folder, and the other lives in its own Logic folder within the u/l/p folder.
Which one contains useful info like keyboard shortcuts, and which contains info about Logics internal workings?
If Logic were to start acting strangely, which preferences should I trash?
    Cheers
    A

The file in preferences (com.apple.logic.pro or express.plist) contains all the resources/library/loops/instrument etc. locations. You can read this file in a text editor.
The file in ~/Library/preferences/Logic (com.apple.logic.pro or express) is the one containing your key commands. You can move this out of its folder, to your desktop for example, and rebuild your preferences. From this file, you can import your key commands.
You could trash both of them, but you'll lose all your settings. In extreme cases of corruption, this might be a good idea, but if you have an extensive KC setup, you probably want to try importing them into a newly created prefs file within the Logic folder, by using the import command in key commands window (which I assume is also available in Express).

  • How do you save key commands/trash logic prefs??

    hey,
how do you trash your logic prefs and save your key commands in os x. Please for give the simplicity of my question but getting under the hood in os 9 made a lot more sense to me than doing it in os x.
    thanks!
    ej

    find in your user area:
    ~/Library/Preferences/
    com.apple.logic.pro
drag this file to the desktop (do not copy)
Boot Logic (prefs are not initialized)
    open key commands window
    select import key commands
make your way to the desktop and choose the file you just moved
you can then do what you want with the old prefs file-but don't move it to the prefs folder)
    Cheers

  • Strange behavior in CS3 WinXP not fixed by trashing Prefs file

My doc has many objects on multiple layers. 85% of the objects are strokeless filled objects, filled with only 5 different colors. A small number of the objects are not showing the correct fill color when placed over other objects. They show the correct color when moved. All layers are "normal" transparency, 100% opacity.
Tried trashing prefs file but that didn't help. Any ideas?

They are probably set to over print which is an object setting that stays with the file. However you should only be able to see the effet if you have Overprint Preview on and trashing the preferences should setyou back to the default of not having Overprint Preview on.

Final Cut Crashed and then corrupted the file. So Final cut wouldn't open up. I tried reloading the backup, trashing the prefs file, systematically going through the 3 previous versions and opening them by themselves one by one. I found Final Cut now loads but each of the backups and files in the previous 3 versions won't load. I've worked on the project for 3 weeks. Im suprised the backup files won't load either!?! I've only rendered 1 low res version. I am thinking I will have to rebuild the project in Final Cut 7. That is simply too risky to have all my back ups not load up!!

I'm a little confused by this?
Final cut now opens if launch older projects. But if I actually click on the project it crashes. Im not sure what you mean by events? I've moved them from the events folder.
but when I open up and of the projects the FInal Cut opens but then wont load the project even with no events in the FInal Cut Events folder.

  • Cmd+Option Start iMovie trash pref file - From what version ?

    Hi
Cmd+Option Start iMovie trash pref file - From what version ?
As I see it - it must be a New Feature to iMovie'13 (vers. 10.0.x) or does this work long back in time ?
To set iPhoto right - has been working for quite a while - but reg iMovie - Anyone knows ?
Any other program that can be cured this way ?

You need iDVD to make a video DVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

    A Espinoza,
The iTunes Media folder is set in Preferences > Advanced, and is the key to most iTunes folder organizational activities.  So I doubt that the automatic deletion will work for files that are somewhere else within the folder structure.
However, I have not experimented with that issue in quite a while, so you are welcome to give it a try in iTunes 11.

  • Delete only one file from Trash

    Hello There,
I do not want to empty my entire Trash folder but only some files which i know I am not going to use it. Is there a way to delete only selected files and not just empty trash...
Thanks in advance for the help..
    NA

    nAyer,
When I place files in the Trash, I expect that they will be deleted. IMHO Trash is not a good place to store files that I may have second thoughts about eliminating.
I have created a folder which I named "B4 Trash," and placed it on my Desktop. If I really want to throw something away, I put it in the Trash and empty the Trash. If I am not sure about deletion, I place it in B4 Trash and get rid of it at my leisure.
Why not drag all of the files in Trash to a folder you create on your Desktop called B4 Trash, and then drag the files you really want to get rid of back to the Trash. Then empty the Trash.
    ;~)

I've been making a number of imovies, which generates junk files and material that I should toss in the trash, but it is not clear to me  what items I can toss and which items I can't toss. Can you help? Get Info on the icon on Desktop

  • Recovered files in trash after sleeping

Upgraded to Tiger 10.4.11 from Panther about 4 weeks ago using Erase & Install, then restoring apps, files, etc. with Migration Assistant from a clone. Flawless & painless--whew! However, I'm now having one minor but annoying issue--after playing Burning Monkey Solitaire, quitting, logging out & putting Mac to sleep, find recovered files in trash on next log in, specifically a couple of BMS text files. The Freeverse support folks are still working with me on this issue (suggesting doing a Secure Empty Trash, which didn't prevent the files from returning). I'm posting here, however, because today there was also an iPhoto folder (empty) in the Recovered files folder in the Trash. Any ideas on why this may be happening and how to stop it? I've used iPhoto since the OS upgrade without this occurring and, so far at least, no other apps (Word, Excel, other games, etc.) have been leaving orphan files on quit/sleep/logout that wind up recovered in the trash.
As I said, it's a minor annoyance, but hope it's not a symptom of something more serious. Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not quite what's happening here . . . first, neither Burning Monkey nor iPhoto unexpectedly quit--always were quit normally. Second, recovered files folder shows up after sleeping, not just after restarting.

  • LSMW - Logical Path/File - No logical path has been specified

    Hello,
I am trying to create a LSMW with the RM06EEI0 direct input program for ME21N transaction.
At the SpecifyFiles step I get the error message "No logical path has been specified".
    My dilemmas are:
    1. How can I solve this error? Is the FILE transaction only solution? If yes, where and how I must define the logical path/file?
    2. Why in the case of the Batch Input Recording LSMW Method this files are created automatically? (I can see them in the AL11 transaction and I didn't define them by myself).
    3. Why on other system this error is just an warning message? If you look at this tutorial  http://****************/Tutorials/LSMW/PO/Page4.htm at Step7.g. you can see that there is no need of defining the file/path in FILE transaction.
More info about the system I am working in:
    SAP ECC 6.0.
    LSMW 4.0.0. Version.
    Thank you.
    Daniela

    Hi
Refer the oss note 753511 released for this kind of error you face in LSMW, I am pasting the content of the note below,
    ******************Note Content,
    Symptom
The system issues an error message for the logical path or file when you perform the "Specify files" step in the Legacy System Migration Workbench (transaction LSMW) although you have made the correct assignment in transaction FILE.
The error messages are as follows:
The logical path <PATH> does not point to the physical directory.
The logical file <FILE> is not assigned to the physical file.
    or
A logical path was not specified.
    Other terms
Logical path, logical file, transaction FILE, LSM Workbench
    Reason and Prerequisites
Some import interfaces that you can also use with transaction LSMW work with logical path and file names.
Transaction LSMW itself, however, works with physical file names. To be able to transfer the LSMW file with the converted data to the import program, you must specify a logical file name for the file with the converted data in addition to the physical file name. In this case, the system displays additional fields in the 'Specify files' step in which you must enter the logical path and file name.
    Solution
The error messages may be due to several causes. Check the following:
Have you maintained the logical path and logical file name and have you assigned them to the physical file specified in the "File" input field of transaction LSMW?
These settings are maintained in transaction FILE.
When you use logical file and path names, you must specify the name of the physical file with its path. If you have not specified any directory, you cannot assign any directory to the logical path in transaction FILE. In this case, the system uses the SAP Home directory on the application server by default. Bear in mind that the file name must not exceed the maximum length of 45 characters, including the path.
Up to LSMW version 1.7.2 (*):
If the logical file name specified does not point to the physical file (although it should do), the system adjusts the logical file name, that is, the information in transaction FILE is changed to the entries made in transaction LSMW. This may lead to unwanted side effects if the logical file is also used somewhere else. Therefore, SAP recommend that you always use separate logical paths and file names for transaction LSMW (the problem is corrected as of LSMW version 1.8.0, see below). If the logical file does not exist yet, it will be created upon request.
As of LSMW version 1.8.0 (*):
The settings of the logical file are checked but no longer adjusted automatically as in version 1.7.2 (see above). If there are inconsistencies, the system issues an error message. If the user is authorized to maintain logical paths and file names (as for transaction FILE: "Maintenance authorization for cross-client tables"), transaction LSMW can create the logical path, the file name and the file. Due to this automatic generation, the user no longer needs to make adjustments in transaction FILE. Therefore, we especially recommend this procedure.
To display the version of transaction LSMW, select "Extras" --> "Display LSMW version" in the main menu of the initial screen.
You should also bear in mind that as of Basis Release 6.20, that is, as of LSMW version 4.0, transaction LSMW is no longer an add-on but is delivered with the standard system.
    Hope this helps,
    Sunil

  • Can't empty file in trash under 9.2.2 or OS.X.3.9

I have read the posts and tried the different options of emptying trash and can't get rid of this pesky folder.
I was transferring files from a Jaz drive to an internal drive which is titled a workdrive. Some error messages came up that stated certain files could not be read due to disk errors.
I am trying to empty the trash to delete the files and I get two types of errors. One says error code -127 and the other says it cannot find the files. I have restarted several times in OS9.2.2. Still can't delete them. I transferred the files back to my work drive and restarted under OS.X.3.9.
Under OS.X.3.9 I moved the files to trash and tried to empty the trash. The error now says files are in use and can't be emptied. I have tried using the option delete, the commandshift+ctrldelete. I have tried using the secure trash option. I have tried holding a click down over the trash icon but the menu dropdown list doesn't appear as one post claims. I have restarted OSX and still not able to delete. If I use the eject the drive option for the work drive then the files disappear out of the trash along with the workdrive icon.
I'm not comforable using "Terminal" since this is a company owned machine and don't want to risk causing a major problem.
Please don't chastise about not researching before posting because I have researched and the solutions aren't working. Most posts I have read deal with OSX trash problems but my problem began in OS 9.2.2.
The computer I'm working on is a G4 Quicksilver, 933 mhz, Ram unknown. It has a system drive and a 2nd drive. entitled workdrive.
Thanks for any help solving this frustrating problem.

I don't own this machine and don't have the cd's or the permission to use Terminal. I will have to refer this to my next level of tech support. I wanted to try to solve this before doing that action.
