Which sequence preset for .mp4 movies

I'm making a compilation video using clips from already existing hollywood movies.  The movies are mostly 720p .mp4's.  Which preset should I select when I start a new sequence?

I don't have segments from the movies.  Just the complete movies. So how do I get all the segments together.
That's what you do with Premiere.
You select segments of various clips and put them
together in a particular order in one Timeline... editing.
I don't know what the preferred order will be just yet.
Don't worry... just start pulling together the pieces you want to use.
You don't need to immediately determine what your preferred order
or durations will be.  You can easily change it later... nonlinear editing.
I want to extract all the 2-3 minute clips and get those into the project and then be able to load those onto the timeline and trim what I want.
Then... do just that.
Pick out the 2-3 minute segments you might want to use,
throw them all together on one Timeline, then start figuring
out what order, what to trim etc.

  • Which sequence preset for PAL Beta SP or DigiBeta?

    Hi,
I'm about to start work on a 2 minute video that is just type and photo animations (pan and scan), it doesn't require any video footage, everything will be either supplied digital images or generated in Final Cut.
The client has asked me to produce either Beta SP or DigiBeta tapes in PAL format. I don't have a compatible deck, but I can send the finished programme to a company that does and they can put it on tape for me.
The question is what sequence settings should I use to generate the video and how would I go about getting this to the duplicator given that I don't have a deck?
Any pointers would be a great help.
    Regards Alan

Yes, you're right in thinking that there it is a better codec/format than DV pal... especially if you're work in just FCP-generated-text and imported still images.
However, if you don't have any method of getting that sequence out of your computer and onto digi-beta then you are a bit stuck.
I would work a DV PAL version so you can play that out to tape at home, but also copy/paste the sequence into a 10bit uncompressed sequence and export a QT movie in the hope that the facilities house might be able to do something with it without charging an extortionate amount of money.
In terms of quality, there is a huge difference between DV and 10bit when using FCP generated text... but only if you get that sequence onto a digi-beta.
I've been up against the same problem recently a few times... and always end up just making a DVcam master which we get dubbed onto digi... but that's only because they ask for digi as a delivery format.

  • Audio/Video Settings: Sequence Preset for Photo Sequence

I have FCP 7.0.3. I am going to edit a sequence of jpgs sized around 1400 width pixels. The client wants a web movie, but she may also need it on a dvd. I am unclear on which sequence preset to use/modify. For the web version the frame size won't need to be bigger than 960x540 at most. Maybe even 720x405.
I have an AJA Kona3 card so when I go to choose a preset, many options come up. I feel as though it should be ProRes, but don't know settings for sure. It will just be photos in this sequence. I am curious also about frame rate and frame size.
    Thank you.

Thank you Christina. I want my sequence settings as:
    720x405/Custom (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio - Square
    Field Dominance - None
    Compressor - Apple ProRes 422
which will be fine for web delivery, but will that work for a dvd too? Or will I get messed about by the square pixel aspect ratio?
    thanks.

  • I filmed with Sony HDR-XR500V using HD HQ - which sequence preset is best?

I filmed on a Sony HDR-XR500V camera using the HD HQ camera setting. According to the manual, this means it's: AVCHD 9Mbps (1440x1080x60i).
I'm editing in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.
Which sequence preset should I use?
    AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic
    or: AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)
I'm a bit confused, because AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic says "for editing AVCHD Formats recorded in anamorphic 1920x1080 (ex.1440x1080)."
What does "anamorphic 1920x1080 (ex.1440x1080)" mean? What does "ex." stand for? For example? Except?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,
Your manual tells you you have shot your film in 1440x1080 which means it has rectangular pixels which in other words it is anamorphic.
If you made these rectangular pixels into square pixels you get 1920x1080.
Full HD is 1920x1080 with square pixels. It all has to do with aspect ratio. It can be a bit confusing.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS03BF7479-8C7B-4522-8C75-210AD102524Ea.html
If you were to do it correctly your preset should be AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) Anamorphic.
    Hope this all makes sense.

  • Best Sequence Preset for Canon HG 10?

Hi guys, i have a Cannon HG10, but i am confused on which Sequence Preset to choose when starting a new project.
My settings for the Cannon are 1920x1080, 15mbps, PF25 (frame rate), 1080i
I want to choose the best settings possible for the best quality
also once my video is edited what are the best export settings for me?
    i'm so confused
    thanks for the the help

I you have no idea what to choose drag a file from the Project Window into the New Item Icon. That will setup the correct sequence.
On the whole it would be AVCHD 1080i50 non anamorfic.

  • Best sequence preset for short film with all stills?

    Hi,
I'm working on a short film documentary, its all stills, I usually work with video - first time doing all stills. Project looks great in my time line, but when rendering for standard DVD I'm getting lots of odd pixilation in cross fades and fades to black. Not a lot of time to keep testing the hundreds of sequence and render settings. Perhaps not the best choice but I used AVCHD 1080p30.
Anyone know which of the sequence presets would be best for a film with all stills?
    Thanks!

Still a little unsure about the render twice. I did use a AVCHD sequence/timeline, but I am exporting using media encoder to MPEG2. I'm guessing by render twice you mean rendering in the timeline after you bring in stills and apply motion, then rendering again when exporting for MPEG2? If thats your meaning, not sure how you get around rendering twice - I mean the motions and timeline still needs to be rendered, or are you saying leave it all to be rendered at the export process?
I can see how the terminology could be confusing.  When you Export>Media from Pr, that's the same as Exporting and Rendering (esp. if your output format is different from your Preview format).  One way to look at it is that you're rendering a complete single file to a single codec.
Rendering is also a term used to "build" Previews in Pr.  That's where your source media - no matter what codec was used - is rendered into the Preview format you selected in your Sequence Settings.
You have options when making a DVD.  You can export (while simultaneously rendering) to an intermediate file, such as ProRes for Mac people, and then make your DVD from that.  That is "rendering twice."  OR... you can simply Export to an MPEG2 from Pr, and make your DVD from that, which would be "rendering once."
Based on what you just wrote, it sounds like you're only "rendering once."  But if so, I'm baffled why your fades are blocky.
Maybe it would help if you described how you're making your DVD.  I wonder if you're re-transcoding your MPEG2 when you get to Encore (or whatever you're using to make DVDs).  That could explain it.

  • Choosing Sequence Presets for AVCHD

    Greetings:
I have a new Panasonic HDC-HS100PC video camera. It records AVCHD video - whatever that means.
When I import this video and then select one of the imported segments and look at it's properties, it says the following:
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - 6 channels
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - 6 channels
and I'm pretty sure it is interlaced - not progressive scan.
What I can't figure out is what Sequence Preset to use. I assume that I should use one from the sub-group called AVCHD and I also gather that I should use 1920x1080i. But I am not sure if I should use i30 or i60.
I am going to have to build my project for DVD using standard 720x480 NTSC video for some of my viewers (ie: my Mom). Does the input video preset impact the resulting output? Is there a "good" way to do this?
Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.

Genoism's confusion is a direct result of camera makers not using proper terminology, and the general populace continuing that error through to common usage.
Bottom line is one should always and only list frames, never fields.  Technically, there is no such thing as 60i, which properly means 60 interlaced frames per second.  You can have 60 progressive, but not 60 interlaced.
Further, saying "interlaced fields" is redundant.  Kind of like saying a "female woman".  Well, all woman are female by default.  There's no need to say both.  Likewise, when you list the "i", meaning interlaced, we know the field rate will be double the frame rate.  There's no need to list both.
Always and only list frames.  Pass the word.

  • Can't set POSTER FRAME for .mp4 movies... can for most others

    I've got QTPro.
When I try to create a poster frame for a .mp4 movie I compressed it tells me I have to save and does one of the following two things:
    1) Tells me I can't save after I hit SAVE
    2) Tells me it wants to save as a .mov file... I don't WANT a .mov file.
    Any thoughts?

  • Sequence preset for multiple format of clips

I have sources coming from 3 AVCHD camcorders and one GoPro HD:
    AVCHD source #1 is 1920x1080/50i
    AVCHD source #2 is 1440x1080/50i
    AVCHD source #3 is 1440x1080/60i
GoPro HD H264 source is 1280x720/60p
AVCHD footages have been transcoded to ProResLT codec during the Log&Transfer.
H264 footage has been transcoded to ProResLT codec with MPEG Streamclip utility.
My aim is to use all these footages, to get a final output to be displayed on the web/computer screen. So, ideally, I'd want progressive. What would you suggest as a sequence preset, or as additional pre-work before starting editing?

The GoPro footage is meant to be slo mo, right?
I believe this workflow will provide the sharpest image before compression for the web.
Your project will have the following Sequence Settings:
ProRes LT, 1280x720, 25 fps, Square Pixels, Field Dominance - None.
Convert all of the footage except the GoPro in Compressor to those specs, using Frame Controls to de-interlace and downscale. Be sure to change the frame Rate in the Encoder tab, Video Settings; and change the resolution and pixel aspect ratio in the Geometry tab.
In Cinema Tools, conform the frame rate of the ProRes LT GoPro to 25 fps.
Make sure all audio is 48 kHz, 16 bit.

  • What sequence settings for MP4s  when importing them? Rendering is a pain.

I downloaded some clips for an editing project and the codec information listed for them is H.264, AAC, MPEG-4, ODSM, MPEG-4, SDSM. I imported the files into FCP 5.1.2 as part of a new project so what exactly do I change so I don't have to render them every time I make an edit or apply a filter? I'm assuming I change the sequence settings but what exactly do I change...the QuickTime Video Compressor settings? Tried it for H.264 but it didn't work unless I missed a step. Thanks for any help.

chances are Shane's excellent tip will get it all set
up for you, but be warned that not all non-standard
codecs can be edited "natively" in FCP, and you
should not automatically assume that they can.
if you are trying to work with clips in one of these
non-native codecs then you should transcode them to a
native format, such as DV, first. (you can do this
    using FCP's Batch Export function)
After using the Batch Export function on the clips as well as individual clips I am receiving General Error messages when I try to import the file(s). Any thoughts? I tried Shane's tip as well and it works except for the audio rendering as mentioned in the tutorial. Not a huge deal though. Now I need to figure out a way to do the Multi-Clip sequence thing for 16 clips since it only does it one clip at a time.

  • Which Sequence Preset Do I Use for 5D Mark II Video in Pr CS4?

The 5D2 video is true 30FPS, but every 1080p preset is 29.97. Do I just use one of those and then do some conversion later? Sorry, I'm fairly new to this... you'd think with all the 5D Mark II hoopla (and I bet some serious increased sales of Premiere because of it, including me), Adobe would get some native 5D2 functionality into Premiere CS4 (like a preset!). I had high hopes for that in v4.1... maybe 4.2 will come through.
Anyhoo, is there a best way to deal with this? Maybe I'm missing the obvious...
    Thanks in advance.

Um... er... hey, how 'bout I check the Source Monitor tonight??
Hunt, thanks for the info, I need to remember how much more is going on inside the NLE. I'm also going to convert one of the .MOV files to an AVI with Cineform's NeoScene tonight and see how that edits. I just discovered that NeoScene resamples the audio track at 29.97 but keeps the video at 30fps, so on a longer clip (  > 5 minutes  ), the audio gets out of sync. I emailed Cineform and they say to separate the A & V and recode the video? at 99%. I have to find the email, but supposedly this syncs things back up. Oy vey, there's a lot to remember!

  • Which Sequence Preset Please Help

I'm making a small video for my internship and using adobe Premiere.
I've however run into a few problems. The camera was outputing video in AVCHD(.mts) files which where not working.
I've nowstarted to convert the files into different formates. But I'm unsure of what squence preset to use given the file type. currently I have a file that is:
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 62.5 MB
    Image Size: 640 x 480
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 30.00
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:05:00:02
Average Data Rate: 213 KB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
I however think it may be a better idea to convert them to AVI but when i try to import the AVI files i get a ERROR:
    Codec missing of unavailable.
What is the best Preset Sequence to use with the MPEG files?
    Please help!

    Type: MPEG Movie

  • Project Presets For Editing .mov 720P

Hello, I have Drift Inovations 170HD Stealth that I would like to edit in PE11.  The camera specs show that it records 1080P and 720P in .mov (h.264) format.  What would be the best Project Setting for that?
    Thanks!
    DAVE

    Dave,
    That was very good news.
For the 720p25, 720p30, and 720p60, I would look at:
    For 720p60
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - HD 720p60
(Refer to details in screenshot below)
    For 720p30
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - HD 720p60
(but in this case, you are going to go under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and change the frame rate from 60 to 30.
Refer to details in screenshot below)
    For 720p25
    Publish_Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - HD 720p60
(but in this case, you are going to go under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and change the frame rate from 60 to 25.
Refer to details in screenshot below)
    720p60
    720p30
    720p25
The choice of 59.94 vs 60 and 29.97 vs 30 often depends of details from your camera. But see how you do with the suggested settings.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting Sequence Timecode for QT Movie - Not Working!

    Hello,
I need to export a film I have been working on to a Quicktime file, but I need the QT film to keep the timecode in the sequence I have been working on. The film is going to a broadcaster in the UK, so I need the film to start at 10:00:00:00, with countdown leaders/colour bars appearing beforehand etc.
I have been trying to export a normal, self contained QT file (not using QT conversion) but every time I do, the QT film has a starting timecode of 0:00. I have adjusted the sequence settings so the timecode is appearing as it should in the FCP sequence. Am I doing something wrong or have I missed a step? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    George
P.S. I can export to tape also, which I tried, again with no luck (TC starting at 0 again!) If any of you know of a method to export to tape while keeping the sequence TC please let me know!

I'm using Final Cut Pro 7.0.2.
I'm checking the timecode of the exported file both by looking at the timeline at the bottom of the QT movie and by viewing the movie properties on QT. Both the video and audio tracks start at 0:00:00.
They haven't asked for burnt in TC (this means actually having a timecode display burnt onto the film itself right?). They they just want the film as either a data file or printed to tape with the timecode settings they specified. So far I have been unable to do either.
