Which TCP/UDP ports need to be opened on a firewall for adobe reader and flashplaer to operate properly? This would include updating, linking, and any subset of features.

The Acrobat Family uses TCP HTTP/HTTPS for all traffic. The following processes and ports may be active on a Windows client machine:
AdobeARM.exe - automatic updates - port 443
AcroRd32.exe - brand messages - port 443
AcroRd32.exe - links in documents - anything specified in the URL
Acrobat.exe - brand messages - port 443
Acrobat.exe - links in documents - anything specified in the URL
AdobeCollabSync.exe - Tracker review data - port 443
The same ports are used by the program components on OS X.
There are no inbound listening ports for any elements of the Acrobat Family. Automatic updates are not pushed and there are no server processes within the software.

Normally, you need the following ports and protocol :
UDP 500
UDP 4500

In case, you are using IPSec over TCP you have to open, TCP port 10000 or any other port you want to use for IPSec connections (Its configurable).

I downloaded the file, and:
It is not a Photoshop PDF.
I get the same result attempting to open in Illustrator; mangled font substitution. That's because I don't have one or more of the exact fonts used in the document installed on my computer, and I suspect the same is true of yours.
The fact that it opens without issue in Reader and Photoshop is essentally meaningless, (or at least it's not an inidication that it also should open without issue in Illustrator, which is what your original post seems to imply). Reader displays the correct fonts because subsets of them are embedded in the PDF for use by Reader. Photohop just rasterises the whole page, so there is no font data needed.
If you had the fonts, you wouldn't get the substitution in Illustrator. It works that way for any PDF.

What ports need to be opened on my firewall?

I've got an app that send a javamail message via our smtp server behind a firewall. The app works perfectly when the rules are completely opened up for the client. If I limit it to just port 25, it can not connect to the host. What other ports are needed to use java mail? The only port number I see in debug is 25.

POP3 uses 110 to communicate.....

I will install Cisco PI 2.0 behind a firewall for security reason. The WLC5508 is before a firewall. Can anybody let me know which TCP/UDP ports need to be open specifically between the Cisco PI and WLC? I don't see that from the below link.

Firewall Between the WCS and Controller or WCS and the WCS User Interface
When a PI server and a PI user interface are on different sides of a firewall, they cannot communicate unless these ports on the firewall are open to two-way traffic:
80 (for initial http)
69 (tftp)
162 (trap port)
443 (https)
Open these ports in order to configure your firewall to allow communications between a PI server and a PI user interface.

Ok, which ports need to be opened on the firewall to allow me to access another sites FTP. I opened 20-21, but still no dice. When I turn off my firewall, I can access them without a problem.
I figure it is some other port that is being used, but I have no idea what one.

Are you running apple default FTP service?
In SA you have al least 2 subnets to control in Firewall Service, one pointng to you LAN, the other (any) is for incoming connections.
Ftp service requires open ports on 20-21 , this is called passive mode restriction, if you have problems connecting you have to open also some higher ports (ex: 49152-65534) to enable non-passive mode.
Try to read /Library/FTPServer/Configuration/ftpaccess and look for a line like this :
passive ports youripnumber 49151 49155 (if not add it)
In Firewall > Settings > Service add ports 49151-49155 to allow only traffic by clicking the "+" button to add the ports. Save and restart Firewall.

I suspect it is firewall problem because the inventoried server which
is install at the same segment with the TED distributor server, I manage to
push the policy and collect inventory data , but for those inventoried
server which is install at the remote site, I fail to push the TED into the
server. At the TED distributor server, the log say that computer refused
connection. And there is a firewall in between the TED distributor server
and the remote inventoried server.

Thin JDBC through firewall - what ports need to be open?

We are running Oracle 7.3, and Oracle Web Server on the same
computer. The firewall is set up to allow connections to that
computer from anywhere, on ports 80 and 1521.
Our thin JDBC applet works perfectly from inside the firewall,
but from outside, I get a time-out error trying to open the JDBC
connection.
What else needs to be done get JDBC through? Do other ports need
to be open on the firewall?
The JDBC FAQ mentions a "Net8 compliant" or "SQLNet certified"
firewall - is that relevant to this problem, and if so, what does
it really mean?
We are supposed to be operational right now, so many many thanks
for any help on this!

Which Base MSI to Use For Adobe Reader Updates?

I am new to creating AIP for Adobe Reader and am wondering which MSI to use as the base installer. From what I understand, to create an AIP for Adobe Reader 11.0.07, I need to first have the AIP created for 11.0.00 and then patch it using the 11.0.07 MSP file. (the 11.0.07 MSP file contains all other updates found in earlier quarterly releases and OOC releases)
So my question is on obtaining the correct MSI file for creating the original 11.0.00 AIP. My options for obtaining the correct MSI are threefold:
The original 11.0.00 MSI (AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi) (only one msiexec comand required)
The original 11.0.00 EXE (AdbeRdr11000_en_US.exe) (extract the files from the exe, then run the msiexec command)
The new 11.0.07 EXE (AdbeRdr11007_en_US.exe) (same as previous item)
I noticed that the MSIs in the AIP are named "AcroRead.msi" when extracted from an EXE file (#2 and #3 above) but named "AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi" when extracted from the original MSI file (#1 above). Are all three of these resulting MSIs the "same"? They all have different MD5 hashes but otherwise appear identical.
Once I have the original AIP for 11.0.00 backed up, I should be able to reuse it when new quarterly releases come out. Can anyone help please? What is recommended? Thanks!

No one answered, but I think probably all can be used. I made a script that will automatically extract and build the AIP from the most recent EXE file provided by Adobe. Why Adobe doesn't create a new MSI themselves is beyond me.

How to open PDFs by default with Adobe Reader?

I used to have Adobe Acrobat but I don't have it any more.
When I had Acrobat the PDFs in my sistem and the PDFs in the web were opened without problems by Acrobat but now I just have Adobe Reader (not Acrobat) and the PDFs in my sistem and on the web are not opened and can't read them...
Even the PDFs in my sistem don't show the PDF icon as when I had Acrobat installed.
What could I do to be able to open PDFs by default with my Adobe Reader?

Right click on a PDF file and select Open with, then select the Always open with button. Search for Adobe Reader and go from there. This is an OS feature, not a Reader feature. For further questions about Reader, check the Reader forum.

Which TCP/IP ports do I have to open in order to get communication

I have an enterprise portal. based on EHP1 and I want to patch it. So I need to connect it to Solution manager.
However systems are in different networks.
I wander which TCP/IP ports do I have to open in order to get communication between the two systems.
I am trying to fid documentation for this case but every documentation asumes systems are in same network

It's fascinating that that document hasn't been replaced/updated in five years. Regardless, I've noticed an inconsistency in how they list the needed ports.
For example, they mention that port 5nn13 is needed for (I think) the Netweaver Start Service, and mention that the nn should be replaced with the instance number (00-99). That's one hundred ports (50013, 50113, 50213, ... 59913). Yet, in the "Range" column, they significantly mis-describe that as 50013-59913, which adds another 9801 completely unnecessary holes to put into a firewall. (e.g. 50026, 51058, 53077, etc etc)
They do that for most of the ranges they use that nn shorthand with... 5nn00, 5nn01, 5nn14, 5nn16, etc.
In short, following the description they give in the "Range" column will have one opening thousands upon thousands of unnecessary holes in the firewall.

Can some one point me with information like what TCP/UDP ports are utilized by FEP and what DNS / site Name it uses to download FEP Updates. This is needed to tighten perimeter FireWall policies

I noticed that Messages no longer works since upgrading to Yosemite on my work network. But it did when i was in Mavericks. Did they change something in Messages in the upgrade that would cause it to no longer work? ports?
