Who to use rs.getBoolean() in  oracle

how to define a boolean dataType;
I try to use this sql statement "isBankerWin BOOLEAN NOT NULL" but caught an "ORA-00902: invalid datatype" Exception
who can tell me the reason?
3ks!
Cheers!

I don't think Oracle has a native BOOLEAN datatype.

  • Best way to use CORBA 3 with Oracle

    Hi, developers,
    I was using Oracle 8i JVM with my CORBA server deployed without any problems. That was CORBA 2 with old BOA.
    Now I have to implement CORBA 2.3 (I've met the "valuetype" in my new IDL definition). I've successfully compiled the IDL file with JDeveloper 9i (which uses the Visibroker's 4 idl2java compiler). The output was the heap of *.java including *POA.java files. I can not deploy them even when I use the Oracle9i database server.
    1) Can anybody show me the way (or multiple ways) to create and to run the CORBA server with POA in the Oracle environment.
    2) Is it possible to compile the IDL file (with valuetype statement) with -boa option and to use the output as it is shown in examples included in database server.
    3) Are there any good links to find the documentation which could describe the CORBA client/server developing process with the help of JDeveloper.
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

    Forget about using Corba with an oracle product.
    I tried to connect a C++ corba client. It is supposed to work. But the guys who wrote the implementation don't work for Oracle anymore. The samples can't be compiled or linked because they use an old ORB.
    Oracle support doesn't want to answer with a working solution (even if we PAY for support).
    It is probably possible to use an old version of corba with java. I won't be surprised if it is dropped from a future version of the db or application server.
    Try to use another solution (ejb, webservice, ...)
    Good luck,
    Jean-Paul

  • Who's using Ultra Search?

    Hi all,
    I'm thinking about utilizing Ultra Search in a near-future project.
    Who's using it? How well does it work? What are you using it
    for? How hard was the implementation?
    Basically I'm looking for success/failure stories to help me
    figure out if it's worth looking at yet.
    Also, does anybody know if this is something Oracle designed
    themselves, or if they're using somebody else's code as a base?
    There are lots of folks out there offering similar stuff, so that
    made me a bit curious about where this might have come from...
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Ultra Search is not entirely a new product - it is an application
    on top of Oracle's Text technology stack that has been shipping
    for a long time.
    Here are some examples how Ultra Search is used today: Embry
    Riddle University is building a global aviation safety portal on
    top of Ultra Search. Boeing is testing it to replace their
    in-house search application.

  • Urgent: who ever use Forte for java ---thanks a lot

    who ever use forte for jave :
    i have some problems..
    1. how to config forte for jave to import the libs which i have programmed and stored in .jar file.
    2. how to setup the application sever and tomcat in Forte for java.
    3. how to use the EJB(which i have programmed) in forte for java.
    before i use JBuilder and i am quite new to Forte for java
    thanks a lot .

    2. how to setup the application sever and tomcat in Forte for java.Tomcat is built into Forte. Once you create web module, you can configure the tomcat server.
    3. how to use the EJB(which i have programmed) in forte for java.What do you mean with "use". You have to deploy them to your EJB container in order to be able to "use" them.
    If you are looking for support for a specific container:
    I think support for the reference implemenation is already built in.
    And I have seen a module to support Oracle's IAS somewhere on the Forte homepage

    Ok .. i got around this issue myself ..
    For others who might have had to face the same problem, let me tell them the problem that i had... i ll b happy if it helps someone ...
    The issue was improper privleges of the Nested Types in the schema to which my server was connecting. Once proper privelges were given, everything started working just fine ...

  • Why still use old versions of Oracle??

    Hi All,
    I was just wondering what are some reasons why organizations continue to use older versions of Oracle like 7 and 8i when we are now at version 11g?
    I would love to hear what everyone has to say.
    Thanks,
    JrOraDBA

    >
    Mogens Norgaard (Oracle Insights) says that most users only need version
    7.3 and that advances since then are for the UPS's and eBays of this world.
    Disagree. Totally.
    Oracle OPS cannot be compared to Oracle RAC. 7.3's partition views cannot be compared to
    proper partitioning. And then what about features such as FGAC, rman, ASM, Apex, materialised
    views - just to mention a few?I readily accept that Oracle is a good deal more sophisticated now than it was in
    version 7. I think that Norgaard - a man with no axe to grind with Oracle and who
    is a highly respected Oracle database practitioner - is talking about an "average Joe Sixpack
    run-of-the-mill OLTP system".
    Why do you think he made this point -
    "Most customers really only need Oracle version 7.3 with respect to features"? (p 92 of the book).
    All of these we use. In production. For 24x7 corporate mission critical systems. It would be
    laughable to suggest that these could run on Oracle 7 and provide as a robust, flexible,
    performant and scalable solution as using 10g or 11g.I accept this also - it's just that Norgaard is saying that "most" customers don't need
    Oracle after 7.3.
    I would tend to agree - in particular, the (totally free) functionality available
    from, say, PostgreSQL and/or Firebird gives you more than this.
    Open Source databases? Even more laughable. There is no way that these can compare
    to Oracle. Not when doing intensive processing. Not when needing scalability, availability
    and redundancy.Look [url http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/2007/07/18/application-server-benchmark-proves-postgresql-is-the-best-enterprise-database-server-new-specjappserver2004-cost-metric-introduced-too/]here and in particular at the post of Clemens Eisserer
    Open source databases have come on in leaps and bounds in recent
    years and represent a value for money solution in many cases where
    an Oracle licence would be prohibitive.
    I have a SE database on a small 2 CPU server that at this very moment is dealing
    with up to 12,000 rows inserted every second into a single table.. after which that table
    (an hour later containing around 40 million rows) is processed. You want me to believe
    that an Open Source database can do the same? Then you will need to prove that cause
    I don't think for a single moment that Open Source databases like mySQL, PostgreSQL
    and Firebird are anywhere as capable and able as Oracle.Also, take a look at VoltDB - an Open Source high-performance database from
    Michael Stonebraker - SQL and ACID in a novel new design.
    There are "Lies, damned lies, statistics" and then* there are database benchmarks.
    How big are your rows? I'm running Hammerora at the moment against an Oracle 10
    XE instance and I'm getting Y no. of rows (I don't think that I'm allowed release any benchmarking
    that I do "into the wild") inserted/second - how meaningful is that? What is the disk setup?
    [url http://www.ib-aid.com/articles/item104]See here you have a very thorough
    benchmark with inserts of 24K rows/sec into a Firebird database.
    Table 3: Loading operations Description Value Time to load
    ~70 hours
    Total records inserted
    6.2 billions
    Average insertion speed
    24500 records/second
    Average record size
    146 bytes (min 13 bytes, max – 600 bytes)
    Transactions
    646489I don't want to get into a religious war here ;) - particularly since this forum is hosted by
    Oracle - I was just trying to explain to the OP why certain customers aren't interested in
    the latest "bells and whistles" version of Oracle - 1 reason is that powerful software
    is available for free elsewhere - although in terms of features, Oracle does have
    the honour of the "kitchen-sink" implementation with a rich feature-set.

    Can we use Dynamic SQL in Oracle Reports ?
    If yes please give some examples .

    I believe the built-in package SRW.Do_Sql is what you are looking for
    Example from the document:
    /* Suppose you want to create a "table of contents" by getting the
    ** first character of a columns value, and page number on which its
    ** field fires to print. Assume that you want to put the "table of
    contents"

    DECLARE
    PAGE_NO NUMBER;
    PAGE_FOR INDEX NUMBER;
    SORT_CHAR CHAR(1);
    CMD_LINE CHAR(200);
    BEGIN
    SORT_CHAR := :SORT_NAME ;
    IF :CALLED = Y THEN
         SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_FOR_INDEX);
         SRW.USER_EXIT(RWECOP PAGE_FOR_INDEX
         P_START_PAGENO);
         SRW.MESSAGE(2,TO_CHAR(:P_START_PAGENO));
    END IF;
    SRW.GET_PAGE_NUM(PAGE_NO);
    CMD_LINE := INSERT INTO SHIP VALUES

    1) Open AirPort Utility
    2) Hold down the option key on your Mac
    3) Keep holding the option key while you double click on the AirPort Express icon in the center of the AirPort Utility window
    4) Release the option key after you double click
    Something like the example below will appear, with the Summary tab highlighted.....which in this example shows that there are two devices currently connected to the wireless network. If you click on the arrow next to each listing, then more information will be revealed about that particular device.

    Which agent are you using to execute?
    Standalone? If standalone, did you start it with OPMN?  I've seen such issues with standalone agent started with OPMN.
    Generally these kind of issues occur when you try to run with standalone agent started with OPMN.
    Because OPMN does not have access to the environment shell variables PATH or ORACLE_HOME and therefore the sqlldr.exe binary (or other Oracle product binary) is not found for execution.
    In this case, you need to specify PATH and ORACLE_HOME variables in opmn.xml file like below for your agent(say "MyStandaloneAgent" in this case)
    <ias-component id="MyStandaloneAgent">
