Whoa... never seen this before. What do I do?
Hi all,
I'm trying to stay calm. My G5 all of a sudden freaked out. It turns on, but it seems like it's in safe mode. All my fonts (the way my desktop looks) is different. I can't open any apps. I just get a blank square w/3 buttons - no text and an exclamation point in a yellow triange. This can't be good!! I am a video editor and this is my main system. So if it can't be fixed, I'm screwed. The only app I could open was itunes (didn't try to play anything from it) but tried to sync it w/my ipod and it just quit and I got that neat little box again (described above). Any ideas???
I would tell you exactly what model I have, but I can't access anything in the menus above (such as about this mac). The menus are there, but when clicked on, it's just a blank pull down menu.

First, try booting into safe mode (on purpose).

What does the ~ symbol mean next to an event? I have never seen this before but today when I edited a few events this appeared next to the event.

Hm. I've never seen that in iCal. In some other Applications the tilde "~" indicates a restore point or a before / after for a file. My guess is there is a broken cache file in iCal.
Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard. You will see "Library" in the menu.
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.

I have copied and pasted hundreds of times before with Mozilla and firefox . This just happened suddenly.
when I go to find more information on this issue, it give a long drawn out explanation I cant follow.
What happened?When you right-click the link, the page immediately tells you you can't copy, or does that occur after you choose Copy Link Location?
If it appears immediately, you can switch a setting in Firefox that should prevent sites from blocking the normal right-click menu. Here's how you would do that:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''context''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the '''dom.event.contextmenu.enabled''' preference to switch it from true to false.
This setting does have a complication: On Google Maps and other sites that have their own right-click menu, Firefox's menu then will block the site's menu. To clear Firefox's menu so you can access the site's menu tap either the Alt key or Esc key once (but sometimes Esc removes both). -
I have just restored my iPad. When I try to set it up, it tells me that my configuration can not be downloaded. Never seen this before. Any ideas?

I would be concerned too if I was not able to gain access to my iPad. If you are unsure what your Apple ID is, you can find the steps in this article:

Is anyone else having the finish rub off of the keys on their macbook? I've had mine for about 6 months and several keys look like the finish is wearing through. I went to the local genius bar today and the techs said they'd never seen this before.
Some people have seen their aluminum uni-body discoloring due to body oils. Go figure.
Normally putting anything over the keys/aluminum will hurt heat disspation, but you may need to use keyboard covers.
Or save up $500/year for new keyboards.
Neither is supposed to be a sarcastic answer. Either one could end up being the solution.

I've never seen this request before. I rarely shut down my computer, and when I restarted it this morning, the above is what I got in a small box. I've tried to find "Completer" in help and communities but there is nothing. I don't want to put in my password until I know it is valid. I found on "google search" about Genieno which led me to a link in the Apple Communities. There is nothing in my apps or computer with that name. Anybody know what this is? Thanks.
There should be nothing native to the OS X which would ask for a password
or other information on a restart, unless accompanied by the traditional login
box with your user name.
There are adware or marginal products that could be called malware (bad)
that would impose their presence and some items that could have been
downloaded by accident or through some corrupted free software site; of
those some could ask for and gain permission to go through your Mac
and maybe even run in the background to do other nefarious misdeeds.
You could see if startup in SafeBoot allows you access past that the Completer.
Since I don't have a pile of helpful article links on how to resolve various issues
I'd be looking them up one way or another.

EXTREMELY URGENT - Never seen this before

i've portal 30982 on windows NT.
i've to create a new application, following are the steps i'm following -
1. click navigator
2. click the applications tab
3. click create link
4. the schema that i want the application to be based on does not show in the list so, i click cancel
5. click homepage
6. click administer database tab
7. put in the schema name in the edit schema portlet
8. click the edit button
9. the 'APPLICATION SCHEMA checkbox' is missing
how can i make this schema as the application schema ... none of the users can see it when they create applications.
has anyone seen this before ....? this is very critical for the client ...
thanxActually, the Application Schema checkbox has been removed 3.0.9 onwards.
The ComboBox that appears while creating a new Application will be based on all the Schemas on which the Portal User has Manage Privs.
Since the Portal Owner will have privilege on this schema, it can grant manage privilege on the schema to the Portal Users who wish to create Application on this.
Later on, once the Application(s) have been created, the manage privilege can be revoked from the Portal Users so that they do not have the privilege to edit/drop database objects in that schema. -

A Mac Pro Help Challenge. I've never seen this before!
I am having a problem with a Mac Pro 2x3 GHz Quad-Core with 16 GB RAM 750 GB HD with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500.
The machine has had several problems. Including Illustrator loosing quick keys such as the ability for it to recognize when the SHIFT Key is pressed? Or the ability to quickly change from tool to tool.
It freezes from time to time.
When I shut it down, let the computer power cycle then start it up, I will see the small light on the 23" apple display blink 3 times rapidly then pause then repeat. I can only get the computer back up by pressing the power button for several seconds.
I've come back to the computer to see the RSS Visualizer screen saver blinking. It was strange.

That's a link to a kind of warping effect I get when opening or saving or utilizing any dialog window. I've never seen it occur before.
Can you guys/gals offer any help?
I can't go to apple support. It's my work computer and the IT people here are not Mac Geniuses. I am trying to get some ideas so that I could throw their way.16 GB of RAM sounds great, but who ordered it? IT will usually buy the cheapest memory they can get. Try pulling any non-Apple memory and see if the problems go away. I hear the Mac Pro is pretty sensitive when it comes to memory.

I added my first folder of MP3s and it created a playlist, but didn't show up in the library. When adding a second folder, it didn't show up anywhere. I can do a search for them in the search window, and it finds/plays them, but I want to be able to browse them in my library. These are not MP3s downloaded from iTunes, but are personal files located on my hard drive. Can anyone help?
I have a Dell that's running Windows XP. I have found that itunes is very temperamental. this works most of the time... except on my son's computer that's running Windows Vista.
Go to your library in iTunes. Then go up to file and try one of the options (import, add folder to library, or add file to library).
Adding a folder is the least work. You can add all the files from a folder with one click... if it works. Remember that itunes is temperamental.
If that doesn't work, try adding a file. The problem with that is that you have to go through the whole process for each and every file (song, movie, etc).
Sometimes the only thing that works is to import.
I haven't gotten iTunes to work on my son's computer (Windows Vista).
I can't get support from apple in any way at all! They are good about creating electronics that appeal to us But they are lousy at support. If anyone figures out how to access support (where you can actually contact Apple) please let me know ([email protected]). I've been trying for 6 months. -

Most e-mail servers impose limits on how many messages you can send per day and how many different e-mail addresses you can send messages to per day. This is a measure to prevent spam, and you're unlikely to hit those limits unless you're sending messages to a very large group of people. Generally, those limits are somewhere in the hundreds.
If you haven't been sending that much e-mail, or to that many recipients, then your e-mail account may have been hacked and used to send spam. See:

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

As the Other threads suggests I would check the Date and Time settings on the Mac and compare that with the settings in the router.
Messages (and iChat before that) send Time stamped info to Login and to send IMs.
Obviously most people set their Macs to their Time Zone and nearest city/town.
What people sometimes forget is that their Router/Modem device(s) have to be set correctly as well.

Also Add a Public DNS server to your System Preferences> Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab
A Google one such as 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 seem to work well for most people

Ever since iTunes 10.2.1 the cover flow doesn't work
Whenever I switch to view cover flow it just removes the whole top section where the Play, FF, Volume buttons etc are...the cover flow doesn't even show up. Which is pretty lame because the -only- reason I am using iTunes is because of the cover-flow
