Why am I unable to to install XCode from the App Store?

I'm running Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2) on my 2010 era Macbook Pro, and I installed the latest security update from Apple yesterday (4/23/2014).
Today I'm trying to install XCode (because I need it for Maven and Unison), and when I click on the green "Download" button next to it in the App Store search results for "Xcode" the button changes to "Installing" and then nothing happens.
Looking at the console log I notice the following, which makes me wonder if this is an App Store bug:
ERROR: ITSExceptionHandler: {message:"TypeError: 'null' is not an object (evaluating 'document.querySelector("#header").removeClassName')", url:"https://se.itunes.apple.com/htmlResources/EC0D/da-storefront-autoinstallations.j s", lineNumber:"326"}
If so, is there another way to make sure I've got an officially approved copy?

Thanks for the hint! I hadn't realized that Xcode 5.1.1 was so huge (2.18Gb) and assumed after an hour that the installation had frozen.

hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

I have Snow leopard, 10.6.8 on my iMac, I just tried to install Lion from the App store, but during proces, the install stops after one minute saying: "software might be damaged". I downloaded the software again, same thing. What must I do to install Lion? I have still 487GB free.

Quit all other programs and open Disk Utility
Select your "MacintoshHD" drive on the left and indented and click Erase > Erase Free Space > Zero and let it complete.
Also run First Aid > Repair Disk and permisisons.
If Repair disk gives a error, you have a bigger problem, if repair permisisons fixes and completes, even if it fixes the same thing twice if you click it again, it's ok. Apple just changed things.
You should be able to download the file sucessfully this time, if not, take it to another location with better/faster internet.
If not then run through this list

  • Trying to update Xcode from the App Store

I'm trying to update XCode 4.1 to 4.2 from the App Store and it fails (4 times so far!), tried fixing permissions, verifying the drive, down-loading Via WiFi and Wired; every time (after down-loading 1.8Gig) It just starts down-loading again
This is the error log I get:
14/10/2011 19:22:05.237 installd: PackageKit: Install Failed: Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=123 "The update was cancelled because the application integrity could not be verified." I'm based in the UK (if that makes any difference), have also tried dropping the Firewall settings to the minimum I can (without switching it off), all other App store down-loads work OK as did the update to 10.7.2 (so I don't think it can be a network/firewall issue).
The only thing I can think-of at the moment is removing 4.1 and trying a fresh install of 4.2 from the App store.
Any other ideas or suggestions (I'm now getting very close to my monthly bandwidth limit)?

    By way of an update:
The only way I cold het 4.2 was to un-install XCode 4.1 and do a clean install of 4.2. At least it allows me to back-up the installer to a DVD so I won't have to down-load it when I update the live dev machines.

  • How do I install Mavericks from the App Store if I erased my HD?

My mbp has been acting funny and slow, and I think I may have had some corrupted files. I have my computer backed up to time machine, and additionally I saved all my important files, photos etc to the external HD before I began. Then I erased my HD. Everything I read indicated that since I had installed mavericks previously (and legitimately), I would be able to do so again from disk utility after I finished erasing the HD so long as I had a working Internet connection. Well, I do, but now when I click "Reinstall OS X" I get a screen with Mavericks and then an error message saying, "this is not a supported method of installing the operating system/ please run Install OS X Mavericks.app that you downloaded from the app store." But I erased my hard drive! I really don't want to use my time machine backup because I'm worried some of my files are corrupted, and wouldn't that just put me back in the exact same position?
For the record, it's a late 2010 MBP that originally had Snow Leopard. My boyfriend upgraded it to Mavericks for me a few weeks ago.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You  can then re-download Mavericks from the App Store.

  • I can't install updates from the App Store

I got my mother's old mac book pro and have encountered a problem I do not know how to fix. I can sign into my iTunes and the App Store just fine, but when I go to install updates to my mac it asks me to sign in again but it has my old email there for sign in and I can not change it. How can I fix this problem?
I have tried resetting everything to default and I have even removed all other saved emails for sign in, but still encounter this problem.

You need to delete and redownload the applications you’re trying to update; the old Apple ID is stored inside them.

  • Why am I having to download GarageBand again from the App Store?  It's already on my computer.  Where is Drummer???

My MacBook Pro (which I purchased in August) already has GarageBand, but the app store is allowing me to download it again?  Looks like I will have two GarageBands on my computer now?  Is this normal?

    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
    -  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select Mountain Lion. Then right or control click where you see Installed then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • I installed Facebook from the app store on my iPad and it kicks me out

I have installed Facebook on my iPad and when I scroll down the page to look at posting it
KIcks me out or if I share a photo it kicks me out
    Can anyone help

    Hello sandyfromcroydon,
It seems you are unable to post photos using the Facebook app on your iPad. Have you checked your photo privacy settings at any point? Take a look at the following article which explains the privacy controls, and where you can find them:
Understanding privacy and Location Services on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 8 - Apple Support
    Privacy controls in iOS 8
iOS 8 gives you control over which apps have access to information stored on your iOS device. For example, you can allow a social-networking app to use your camera, allowing you to take and upload pictures. You can also grant access to your contacts, so a messaging app can find any friends that are already using the same app.
You can modify privacy settings at Settings > Privacy. You can select a type of data from this list to see which apps have asked for permission to use that data. An app won't appear on the list until it asks permission to use your data. You can add or remove permission from any app that has asked for access to data. An app can use your data only if you have given it your permission.
If you allow third-party apps or websites to use your data or your current location, you're subject to their terms, privacy policies, and practices. You should review the terms, privacy policies, and practices of the apps and websites to understand how they use your location and other information. Information Apple collects will be treated in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy.
