WHY? And JUSTIFY HONES

I have come to a conclusion of?5 possibilities on why the sudden?wave of customers who are so angry:
) Phil's action on Daniel_K's drivers.
[color="#ff0000"]2) Driver issues ranging from pops and crackles on their soundcards to buggy software.
[color="#339966"]3) Software bundles / Extra features being removed from the Vista drivers.
[color="#993366"]4) Customer / Tech support personnel who 'don't seem to care'.
[color="#808080">5) False Advertising of their products.
I would SERIOUSLY, HONESTLY like to find out WHY for some; and would like all the flamers here to JUSTIFY their CLAIMS on others. So here they are in order including my takes on these:
[color="#3366ff">) I have gone through Phil's letter MANY times as well as the EULA. If you ask me, it is sheer stupidity if any of you are still raging on this as there are EXPLICIT, CLEAR STATEMENTS as well as FLOUTING of the EULA by Daniel_K. It's not like Creative took or even threatened to take legal action against Daniel_K. His drivers can still be found elsewhere. So shut the hell up on this. It's a?clear testament?for the poor understanding of legal issues, copyrights, and license agreements you guys have on problem . Many of you are just jumping to conclusions even before another Creative representati've steps out. Why? WHY the anger over a small issue when it doesnt hamper your downloading of Daniel's drivers anyway?!
[color="#ff0000"]2) As I have stated in a couple of posts, NO SINGLE PIECE OF HARDWARE (espeically AUDIO related ones) WORKS PERFECTLY?with ALL COMPUTER SYSTEMS. And I am NOT talking about those built-in with your MOBOs. You all can run to your other hardware manufacturers and save your time on these forums. If they work fine for you, good for you. If they don't, good luck to that other company. Find me a company who manufactures sound cards like Creative's who doesnt have a SINGLE driver /hardware issue with ANY of its customers. If you guys can't grasp the complexity of a PC-based computer, then get a fricking MAC.
[color="#339966"]3) If those softwares were removed, the onus is NOT on Creative, but on the third party software team supplying that software to come up with Vista / x64 drivers for them! If they were to even include those software along with their new drivers they would crash your system / show up with bugs of which you guys would also start whining about anyway! Would you guys still be happy then?
[color="#339966"]?
[color="#993366"]4) If any of you DO still have your tech support transcripts from Creative, please attach them here INCLUDING YOUR OWN SUPPORT FORM WITHOUT ANY MODIFICATIONS. And then again even as I suggest this I am EXTREMELY SURE a couple of you will dishonestly modify their comments or come up with fake responses yourselves.
[color="#808080">5) Oh no; it is already proven that the soundcard drivers work on Vista and x64 systems as people like fffcmad have testified. Perhaps not 00% perfect, but Im sure most issues can be resolved by troubleshooting. So tell me how exactly it is FALSE advertising when they are already proven to work; or the fact that people without any problems with their Creative cards whatsoever arent on the forums because they have absolutely nothing to complain about unlike you all?

I hope the original poster doesn't work at Creative because then they really have no clue about this all. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he really is a fanboi clutz who has no clue and submit these two quotes that sum it up:
Creative has basically busted themselves. They've been caught red handed atrificially forcing people to upgrade by deliberately crippling their older products (sound like anyone else you know, first initial of "M"?). A lone white hat hacker named Daniel K created drivers that give the older cards full functionality on Vista (with a lot less bugs I might add) than Creatives own "official" drivers.
Not only did Creative put a stop to it in that forum thread I've linked, but they basically admitted that the decision to release non-functional, crap drivers for said products was a business decision, not a technical one.
The backlash is like nothing I've ever seen. It's taking the internet by storm. It will be interesting to see what has happened while I sleep.
Personally speaking, I really hope that Creative gets what they deserve from this. Maybe it will be a good example for some other companies to clean up their act. People (including myself) paid top dollar for parts that do NOT deli'ver what is promised right on the box.
We have every right to be mad.
Right or wrong, Daniel K was giving the world something Creative is too greedy to give it themselves: VALUE.
He should be applauded for this, not threatened.
I hope this blows up into an even bigger disaster for Creative, and finally brings the issue of forced obsolescence to light. It NEEDS to happen just as badly as, for example, Microsoft needs to actually listen to the cries f pain from their customers and extend support (and OEM sales) for Windows XP some more -- at least until they fix Vista.
Maybe, just maybe, this Creative Labs debacle will finally put some of these issues on the tabel for real, now that people the world over are starting to see that maybe they can make a difference after all.
Alot of people in here and all over the internet are calling creative's driver team bad and incapable of making working drivers. This is utter nonsense.
Creative could probably release perfect fully working drivers withing a few weeks at most, that's assuming they don't already have working drivers backed up somewhere. Creative doesn't want perfect or even acceptable drivers for their current soundcards, so the drivers team's hands are tied. Creative wants to release new sound cards advertising, basically, all the problems are solved and you'll have to buy new sound cards for Vista, Creative isn't the only one doing this but they probably are the only one removing old features, through new drivers, making newer sound cards seem more attracti've without really having anything new.
This isn't the first time Creative has done this. The Audigy 2 and Audigy 4 are basically the same thing, except one costs more because it's drivers allow more features, infact you can get drivers for Audigy 2 cards enabling Audigy 4 features.
They've been doing this driver "scam" for a long time, it's nothing new to them. They've hardly ever seemed to care about providing value to customers.
Also I don't see how removing old features is legal, they can't absolve themselves from everything just by stating it in an EULA, an EULA isn't law and in many countries completely or partially useless due to respecti've laws and constitutional rights. Also anything advertised to work with an opperating system, Vista in this case, and doesn't work with it, is false advertising in any country and is ilegal, contacting your local Advertising Standards Association (or equivalent) and making them aware of this could cause many problems for Creative.
Moaning isn't going to help, where you spend your money and what actions you take will determine the difference.
People are pissed that the drivers aren't working because Creative is deliberately crippling them (and have been demonstrated to actually work via a 3rd party of all things!!!) and causing the consumer a lot of havoc but also in denying the consumer value that they promised to give when they sold the product (which they then had hubris to try and shut down to deny the consumer when the original promised value was actually demonstrated). That is why people are pissed, but it is something through your indepth analysis and extensi've reading cannot seem to understand. Hey if you like being stolen from and wasting money on this company that is fine by me.

my ipod touch 2g is no longer being recognized by itunes why and what can i do i have reset it and everything

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Hi, I have purchased an audio book on iTunes from an iMac and it does not show up on the cloud so I can't download it on my iPhone. Does anyone know why and how I can proceed to transfer the audio book purchase?

    Hi
I have purchased an audio book from iTunes with my iMac.
Now I wanted to listen to it on my iPhone so I proceeded to transfer the purchase and looked for the book in the purchased section of the store in the iTunes on my iPhone but it did not show up.
Does anyone know why and how I can transfer the audio book purchased on my iPhone so I can listen while away from the desk?
    Thank you,
    Sanya

Can you find the audio book by using the Search feature on the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync the audio book to the iPod?
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Note you have to check the boxes in Books pane for the iPod in iTunes to sync books in general and another box to sync Audio Books.

  • Factory reset - the what, why, and how for Gingerbread

I wanted to share this information regarding a Factory Reset and how it is used for Gingerbread - both the what, why, and how - in case anyone is interested in the details. If you embark on this process, this thread is worth a close read. thanks to d.harris for writing this up for the SOAK group. good luck everyone and remember, YMMV.
First, what does a "factory reset" do? The short answer is: it will return your phone to the condition it was in when you first purchased it EXCEPT the Android version will match your phone's latest update. For example, I had Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) on my phone before the "soak". My phone was updated to Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread or "GB") during the "soak". I had some trouble with video performance in the Fox News app and missing album cover art in the Google Music app. So I decided to do the factory reset. After the reset was finished, my Droid X still had Android 2.3.3 on it but all of the settings had been restored to their factory defaults. And presumably, all Android operating system (OS) caches had been flushed. All of the data that was stored in my phone's memory was cleared. So my contacts were all gone. And I had to reactivate my phone (*228 1) just like a new phone and reenter my Google account info.
Does a factory reset actually clear the entire contents of the phone's memory and re-install Android from scratch? (That's what I wish it did.) But I'm not sure that it does that because the entire process seems to go too fast for that. However, a factory reset does seem to do a better job of cleaning out the remnants of the previous OS (Froyo 2.2.1) than a standard "update" does. But that's not all.
The factory reset also clears all of the apps that were installed in the phone's memory. And it clears all of the app data that was installed in the phone's memory. So you will have to reinstall all of your apps from the Android Market (or wherever they came from). Normally, you do not have to pay for them again because the Android Market remembers your previous purchases as long as you register your phone with the same Google account.
However, the Android Market does not remember the free apps that you installed---so you should make a list of all your apps before you reset your phone so you won't forget the free ones. The reason I wrote "installed in the phone's memory" above is because a factory reset gives you a choice whether or not to clear your phone's micro SD memory card. If desired, it will leave it alone. So any apps or data will still be present on your card after the reset. However, your phone will not be aware of the apps on the memory card because all "knowledge" of them will have been erased from your phone's internal memory---you'll still have to reinstall ALL of your apps. But the data files will still be there. Regarding the "built-in" apps that come pre-installed with Android, they will also be restored to their original state and version when you do a factory reset. So you'll need to update some of them (like updating Google Maps and updating Adobe Flash from 10.1 to 10.3).
Before you do a factory reset, you should have a fully charged battery becaues you do NOT want to run out of power in the middle of a reset---that could "brick" your phone. I always take an extra precaution: in addition to a fully charged battery, I also connect my phone to AC with the Motorola AC-to-USB charging adapter that came with it. Not only does it insure that I won't run out of power, it also keeps my battery fully charged so I have a 100% charge after the factory reset (you'll have a lot of work to do afterward to reinstall your apps and restore all of your Android and app settings back to your preferences).
    Here's a pre reset checklist:
    • Export your contacts to your SD card so you can easily restore them later (Contacts/Dialer menu > Import/Export > Export contacts to: SD card).
    • Make a list of all of the apps that you installed (Android menu > Manage Apps > Downloaded tab).
    • Get a copy of your Google account login info (user name and password).
    • Get a copy of your Verizon Backup Assistant PIN (if you use this service).
    • Turn off your phone and pull its battery. Wait 30 seconds or more and reinstall the battery and turn the phone back on. This will make sure that there is nothing hinky in your phone's volatile memory as the factory reset begins.
    • Fully charge your phone's battery and plug the AC charging adapter into the phone.
Now you're ready to do the deed. Follow these steps:
    1. If it's not already on, turn on Google's "back up my data" option with Android menu > Settings > Privacy > Back up my data. This is required for the next step.
    2. Turn off the "automatic restore" option with Android menu > Settings > Privacy > Automatic restore. This will prevent your phone from trying to download every paid app that was previously on your phone all at once. It is much better---especially if you have a lot of apps---to install them one at a time. Plus, you may not want some of them to be reinstalled right away if you are trying to determine if one of them is causing trouble under GB 2.3.3.
3 If you do not want to use Google's "back up my data" service to restore your wi-fi passwords and such, then return to Step 1 and turn it off.
    4. Begin the factory reset with Android menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset. You'll be asked to confirm that you really want to do a factory reset and you'll be given the opportunity to clear your micro SD memory card as a part of the process. I chose not to clear my memory card because I have a 32 GB card with "tons" of music and other files that I do not want to have to restore (it would take hours).
When should you do a factory reset? Everyone should do it before they give their phone away, sell it, or discard it. You don't want someone else to have access to your personal data! And, a factory reset can be a helpful troubleshooting tool when faced with problems.
By the way, my factory reset did not help the video problem I was having with the Fox News app nor did it enable Google's Music app to find all of the album art on my micro SD card. Both problems persisted after the reset under GB 2.3.3.
Finally, there are other things you can do to flush old data from your phone such as clearing the cache partition of your phone's built-in memory. This requires the use of its "Android system recover" menu. Even though I expect this cache data to be cleared during a factory reset, I did it after my reset just to make sure. Clearing the cache partition is usually what folks try before a factory rest so they can (hopefully) avoid the factory reset. I'll leave it to a Motorola staff person to go into that.

OK, got it ...  the Power ON Factory reset procedures might have changed with GB ...
To get to a Factory reset using the Power up method:
    1.  Power Off phone
    2. Press & Hold the HOME Button
    3. Press and Hold the Power ON button.
You come up to the Triangle with the Exclamation mark & android guy.
Press BOTH the Up and Down Buttons at the same time.  This brings up the Blue menu of options.
use the Up/Down arrows to scroll thru the choices. Press the POWER Button to Select the menu item you choose.
You can harmlessly test this and just choose to Reboot without doing anything, just to see how it works in case you ever need to do this in the future.
edit:  It was concluded in the test group that they changed this process to align it with the new DX2 as the camera button isn't hard-wired like it is in the DX. So likely they just wanted to make this process the same for both platforms.  At least it sounds like a good reason...

If you see CJK (Chinese/Japanese) characters on the Firefox title bar or the Windows Taskbar then that can happen if Firefox switches to UTF-16 encoding for some reason.
The ''RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin'' extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) has been reported to cause that issue.
Be sure not to get confused with the RealPlayer plugin (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) that plays media files.
The extension adds some extra features like saving media files.

    Hey xxCreepyFiaxx,
First, I would try the following suggested steps for when you don't see content in iTunes after updating:
    Quit iTunes.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Use the Finder (Mac) or Windows Explorer (Windows) to go to the iTunes folder that contains the iTunes library files:
    Mac OS X
    /Users/username/Music/iTunes/
Microsoft Windows Windows XP and Windows 2000
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\
Microsoft Windows Windows Vista and Windows 7
    \Users\username\Music\iTunes\
Drag the iTunes Library file from the above location to the Desktop.
Open the Previous iTunes Libraries folder in the iTunes folder.
Locate the file named iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD where YYYY-MM-DD is the date you upgraded iTunes (Year-Month-Day).
Drag this file to the iTunes folder (the enclosing folder).
Rename this file to iTunes Library.
    Open iTunes.
You should now see your missing content in iTunes.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, then I'd go through the steps in here:

  • Battery Pull - When, Why, and How

An *excellent* article on the when, why, and how of doing battery pulls on your BlackBerry.  It's recommended many times on these boards to fix a multitude of problems because it WORKS!  Here's why:
    http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-battery-pulls-when-why-and-how
And if you don't want to click the link, here are a few of the highlights:
Maybe [your BlackBerry] is not working as fast as before, the internet is stalled, or application memory is gone and nothing has been added. Is it possessed? Do you want to hurl it against the wall?
Before exchanging the device or panicking that it’s broken, know this. It’s normal; from time to time, your device might become slow and unresponsive. There is a quick and simple way to troubleshoot these issues. In these cases, it’s necessary to reset your BlackBerry device by performing a hard or soft reset. A hard reset is also called a battery pull.
Essentially, a battery pull restarts the operating system on your BlackBerry device and is just like rebooting your PC when it’s experiencing problems. It is not the same as using the Pwr Off/On button. This only places the phone in standby mode. Not only does a battery pull solve various problems with your device, it also frees up application memory and shuts down applications running in the background that can drain battery and resources.
A battery pull can help when:
    Hardware Problems
    Device display freezes or jerks
Torch/Storm devices lag when going from Portrait to Landscape and vice versa
Keypad/Trackball stops responding or does not work
    SIM card errors
    Software Problems
Java code or module errors appear on screen (e.g. Uncaught exception)
Applications are slow, unresponsive, do not load or lag
    Theme issues
Bluetooth errors – connecting, pairing, etc.
    Installing/Uninstalling Applications & Theme)
Music streaming apps (Slacker, Pandora) experience continuous buffering
Social networking apps (Twitter/Facebook) indicate there is no connection available
Memory leak – available application memory drops
LED Notification - LED keeps flashing when there are no new e-mails, texts, alarms, etc.
Maybe you don't WANT to physically remove the battery; I know I don't like removing the protective case repeatedly to take the battery out of the phone.  Thankfully, there are third party "apps" that simulate a battery pull that you can download from BB App World. I use QuickPull by Steelhorn Software (free); it will reboot your device on a schedule you set, or you can do it manually as needed.  A+ Reset ($2.99 after free trial), deReset ($5.99), Restart Me (free) are other options, all available through BB App World.
HTH someone...your BlackBerry can do a lot for you, but you do need to do some caretaking and maintenance.

Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. Most of the people who will reply to your posts are, like me, your fellow users.
As to your issue, first, make sure that you did not inadvertently make an in-app purchase. Many apps, particularly games, are free for the base game but charge for additional features such as levels, "coins" and other such add-ons. Check your Purchase History to see if that reminds you as to what you might have purchased:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2727
If you find that this was an in-app purchase, to prevent this from happening again, turn off "In App purchases" in the Restrictions settings on your device. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
As to a refund, that's not automatic since the terms of sale for the iTunes Store state that all sales are final. You can contact the iTunes Store, explain the reason for your request, and ask, though:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
They're usually pretty lenient in the case of inadvertent purchases, but there are no guarantees.
If the charge was not an in-app purchase that you made and forgot but the charges do appear in your Purchase History, contact the iTunes Store and let them know. You should also immediately change your password for your Apple ID. If the charges don't appear in your Purchase History, they were probably fake charges made directly to your credit card, and your card issuer will need to handle those.
    Regards.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
