Why CanPutXMP Fail

Question

i wrote this code, when i try this code with jpg file, it works, but when i try it with gif file, the CanPutXMP return false,
can you help?

open file using SXMPFiles myFile
the file is opened.
then i tried to add a new name-value to the file,
SXMPMeta meta;
myFile.GetXMP(&meta);
string strUTF8TagName="myName";
string strUTF8TagValue="myValue";
meta.SetProperty(kXMP_NS_XMP_MM, strUTF8TagName.c_str(), strUTF8TagValue.c_str(), 0);
if(myFile.CanPutXMP(meta))

i had the same problem not sure if my soultion is a good one but it should work.
It seems that the setter methods are called after the value change event
so what would be happening is you set the value from the value change but then the setter comes along and resets the inputText back to what it was
so what i did was push the value change event back a few phases so its executes after the setters
i.e
public void modelChanged (ValueChangeEvent event)
PhaseId phaseId = event.getPhaseId();
//incorrect phase
if (phaseId.equals(PhaseId.ANY_PHASE))
event.setPhaseId(PhaseId.UPDATE_MODEL_VALUES);
event.queue();
// correct phase
else if (phaseId.equals(PhaseId.UPDATE_MODEL_VALUES))
//orocess event
}
