Why findCtrlBinding fails in action method?

And here we are...
In JDeveloper 10.1.3 EA I have a JSF JSP page with backing bean.
Drag and drop a View Object (called "VoPolizasAsociadasEntidadExterna1") from Data Contol Palette as ADF Table Read-Only. The table is called "tablePolizas".
Drag and Drop an ADF CommandButton from Component Palette. The button is called "cmdBtnCrear".
In the backing bean I have a private method to execute my ViewObject, (as you will see, ViewObject has a bind variable):
private void ejecutarConsultaPolizas(){
DCBindingContainer dcbc;
DCControlBinding cb;
String rutEntidad;
ViewObject vo;
FacesContext ctx =FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
ValueBinding vb = ctx.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{SessionManager.rutEntidad}");
rutEntidad = vb.getValue(ctx).toString();
dcbc = this.getBindingContainer();
cb = dcbc.findCtrlBinding("VoPolizasAsociadasEntidadExterna1");
vo = cb.getViewObject();
vo.setNamedWhereClauseParam("RUT_ENTIDAD", rutEntidad);
vo.executeQuery();
Then I call this method within the "getter" method of the tablePolizas table. Works fine:
public CoreTable getTablePolizas() {
ejecutarConsultaPolizas();
return tablePolizas;
The ADF Table show filtered data as expected !!!!
But when ejecutarConsultaPolizas() method is called from action method of CommandButton "cmdBtnCrear":
public String cmdBtnCrear_action() {
ejecutarConsultaPolizas();
return null;
The following exception is thrown:
javax.faces.FacesException: #{backing_CrearUsuario.cmdBtnCrear_action}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.NullPointerException
In debug mode run step by step and encounter that exception is thrown in the following line of ejecutarConsultaPolizas():
cb = dcbc.findCtrlBinding("VoPolizasAsociadasEntidadExterna1");
The ejecutarConsultaPolizas() method fails when is called from an action method. Why?
There is something in the JSF Life-Cycle that I must consider?
JSF/ADF got me going crazy!!!!!
Thanks for your help!

You need to add the reference to the ADF binding using managed properties on the bean
In the backing bean create
private BindingContainer bindings;
public BindingContainer getBindings() {
return this.bindings;
public void setBindings(BindingContainer bindings) {
this.bindings = bindings;
In the faces-config.xml file ad the following to your backing bean configuration
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>your bean name</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>your.bean.class</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>request or session or application</managed-bean-scope>
<managed-property>
<property-name>bindings</property-name>
<value>#{bindings}</value>
</managed-property>
</managed-bean>
<managed-bean>
In your backing bean code you can now use
getBindings() to access the business service. Note that you need to call the getDataProvider and the cast it to the BC AM

  • JSF seems to not call a simple action method

    I have a situation where it seems JSF is not performing one of it's basic functions--calling an action method in a backing bean based on a simple JSF EL expression.
    Here's the relevant part of my JSP (the h:subview tags are there because another JSP includes this one):
    -- my.jsp: ------------------------------------------------------------
    <%@ page language="java" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h" %>
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f" %>
    <f:subview id="work-area">
    <h:form id="peers-work">
         <h:commandButton id="edit" value="Edit"     action="#{peerBean.edit}" styleClass="actionButton" />
    </h:form>
    </f:subview>
    --------------------------------------------------------------My faces-config.xml defines the "peerBean" as follows:
    -- faces-config.xml: ------------------------------------------------------------
    <faces-config>
      <managed-bean>
        <description>Session bean for performing Peer operations.</description>
        <managed-bean-name>peerBean</managed-bean-name>
        <managed-bean-class>com.myApp.PeerBean</managed-bean-class>
        <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
      </managed-bean>
      <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/my.jsp</from-view-id>
        <navigation-case>
          <from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
          <to-view-id>/editPeer.jsp</to-view-id>
        </navigation-case>
        <navigation-case>
            <from-outcome>fail</from-outcome>
            <to-view-id>/error.jsp</to-view-id>
          </navigation-case>
        </navigation-rule>
    </faces-config>
    --------------------------------------------------------------And here's the action method in PeerBean:
    -- PeerBean.java ----------------------------------------
    public class PeerBean extends BaseBean implements Serializable {
        public PeerBean() {
        public String edit() {
            logger.debug("in edit().");
            Peer peer = this.getPeer(this.getId() );
            String outcome = "success"; // optimism!
            if (peer == null) {
                outcome = "fail";
            } else {
                this.setId(peer.getId() );
                this.setName(peer.getName() );
                this.setDescription(peer.getDescription() );
            return outcome;
    --------------------------------------------------------------It compiles and runs fine, but when I click on the "Edit" button in my.jsp, the page submits but never enters the "edit" method (based on the fact that the logger call in the method does not write anything to the log.), and it simply re-displays my.jsp (even though it should go to the "success" or "fail" page, according to the navigation rules). I see a bunch of debug messages in the logs from the code that loads the page, but no indication that the edit method is touched. There are no stack traces or errors reported in any of the logs that Tomcat creates for this application.
    Elsewhere in my application, I am able to use commandButton elements to trigger backing bean actions just like I'm trying to do above, and in other places it works fine. I don't know why the above case does not work.
    Also, is there a way to put JSF in a debug mode that shows info such as the navigation outcome processing, JSF EL processing, etc.?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Scott

    I see. Thanks for the response.
    I already have message and messages tag in the JSF, but no error message is displayed. Also, there is no error message in the tomcat log.
    I actually found your tutorial ( http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/01/jsf-tutorial-with-eclipse-and-tomcat.html ) yesterday, so when I saw your response, your name looked familiar but I did not immediately remember why. I Will be going through the tutorial now.
    My application goes as far as the INVOKE APPLICATION phase, but never enters/executes the action method, can anyone please suggest any reason that could be the cause.

  • Unable to call the backend action method

    Hi,
    First of all,I would like to let you know that I am not very much familiar with jsf. My problem is as follows:
    I have a jsf page having some input text boxes,one gridview component( Infragistics jsf component) and a submit button. On submit, I am trying to call one managedbean action method. The gridview component has further two columns,one input text box and one h:selectonemenu component.
    When I try to submit the page, it doesn't call the managedbean action method.The gridview component has one attribute called datasource which is basically a list.During debugging, I found that on submitting the page, it goes to getter of datasource.
    One thing I noticed that If I remove the h:selectonemenu from the gridview component, the action method gets called.
    Can any body please suggest me where could be the problem?
    Thank you

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for your solutions and answers. My problem was solved.
    But again I have similar kind of problem. This time I have h:selectOneRadio component which seems to be causing the problem because if I remove this, the call goes to action method. It's again seems to be conversion or validation error.As suggested,I have tried putting <h:message> for this component but I get a warn message in console like "Unable to find component with ID 'categorylist' in view". I further saw in the html source of the page and indeed found that the id was not there.I have no idea about it,why it's happening.
    I have following code snippet for jsp page:
    <div id="inner_body" style="height: 550px;">
                                  <h:outputText value="#{msg.Manage_MED_CLASS}" styleClass="title" />
                                  <h:messages globalOnly="true" styleClass="error" />

                                       <br />
                                       <br />
                                  </f:verbatim>
                                  <br />
                                  <ig:gridView id="medclassdefnitionlist"
                                       dataSource="#{medClassManagedBean.medClassDefinitions}">
                                       <ig:column>
                                            <f:facet name="header">
                                                 <h:outputText value="Med class definition"></h:outputText>
                                            </f:facet>
                                            <h:outputText value="#{DATA_ROW.medClassDef}"></h:outputText>
                                       </ig:column>
                                       <ig:column>
                                            <f:facet name="header">
                                                 <h:outputText value="Classification(Controlled/Uncontrolled)"></h:outputText>
                                            </f:facet>
                                            <h:selectOneRadio id="categorylist"
                                                 value="#{DATA_ROW.medClassCategory}"
                                                 style="white-space: nowrap">
                                                 <f:selectItem itemLabel="Yes" itemValue="true" id="itemid1"/>
                                                      <f:selectItem itemLabel="No" itemValue="false" id="itemid2"/>
                                            </h:selectOneRadio>
                                            <h:message for="categorylist" styleClass="error"></h:message>
                                       </ig:column>
                                  </ig:gridView>
                                  <f:verbatim>
                                       <br />
                                       <br />
                                  </f:verbatim>
                                  <h:panelGrid columns="2" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="3">
                                       <h:commandButton image="../../../images/btn_save.gif"
                                            accesskey="S"
                                            action="#{medClassManagedBean.saveMedClassDefinition}"
                                            style="outline: none;"></h:commandButton>
                                       <h:commandButton accesskey="C" style="outline: none;"
                                            image="../../../images/btn_cancel.gif"
                                            action="backtoreportinglevel" />
                                  </h:panelGrid>
                             </div>Under ig:gridView component, I have two columns, in the first one h;outputtext is there while in the 2nd one h:selectOneRadio is there. I tried putting immediate="true" in h:commandButton , and then the call goes to the action method. So, it is definitely failing in either validation or conversion phase.
    The following is my java code snippet:
    public ArrayList<MedClassBackingBean> getMedClassDefinitions() {
              try {
                   medClassDefinitions = new ArrayList<MedClassBackingBean>();
                   HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) FacesContext
                             .getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest();
                   HttpSession session = request.getSession();
                   String hospitalCode = (String) session
                             .getAttribute(Constants.HOS_GLO_EXCLUSION_SESSION_VAR);
                   MedGroupBD medGroupBd = new MedGroupBD();
                   List<Object[]> medClassList = medGroupBd
                             .getMedClassDefinitionsForHospital(hospitalCode);
                   //populateMedClassCategoryList();
                   if (UtilityFunctions.isNotEmpty(medClassList)) {
                        for (Object[] medClass : medClassList) {
                             MedClassBackingBean medClassBackingBean = new MedClassBackingBean();
                             medClassBackingBean.setHospitalCode(hospitalCode);
                             medClassBackingBean.setMedClassDef(medClass[0].toString());
                             if (medClass[1] != null) {
                                  if (medClass[1].toString().equals("Controlled")) {
                                       medClassBackingBean.setMedClassCategory("true");
                                  } else {
                                       medClassBackingBean.setMedClassCategory("false");
                             } else {
                                  medClassBackingBean.setMedClassCategory("false");
                             medClassDefinitions.add(medClassBackingBean);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   log.error(e.getMessage(), e.getCause());
              return medClassDefinitions;
         }The above code returns the list for the ig:gridView datasource. "medClassCategory" is the property of backing bean which is mapped for the value attribute of h:selectOneRadio component. The managed bean is in the request scope.Right now on submit of form, first the call goes to this method "getMedClassDefinitions" and then I found like call goes to setter of medClassCategory property in the backing bean as well and sets the changed value from the UI but it never goes to the action method.
    Please see if anybody can help me.
    Thank you,

  • How to call javascript function & action method on clicking jsf  button?

    I have one jsf custom button. I am checking client side validations in mail by calling javascript function & also sending mail by calling action method of a bean which will execute at server side for onclick event of that button. Because of this when I click on that button its calling both javascript function and action method. So even though validations failed its sending mail. How can I overcome this problem?? Please help me....

    I am asking regarding commanLinks in jsf. I have the following code block in jsf. Even though mailSentMessage('true'); returns false, its calling action="#{emailObjectAction.sendEmail}" method. thats why I got that doubt. try the following code.
    <h:commandLink id="mailBtn123Send"      onclick="return mailSentMessage('true');" value="send mail"     action="#{emailObjectAction.sendEmail}">
    </h:commandLink>

  • Value  set in constructor is not getting saved in button  Action method

    Hi All,
    I am not understanding why the value set ( On Condition )in constructor is not hold in the button actoin method.
    Could any body explain me on that
    for this I will try to explain with sample example
    I have taken a button and add a integer property in session bean.
    now if session bean's property is even then I am trying to set the button value to bidNow other wise Accept Invitation.
    Till this opstion everything is OK
    but once I click on Button,
    Constructor is doing the right job only. But I do not understand why in button action I am getting the First Value only.

    Can u explain the reason for this

    Hi Sudhakar,
    Please try the following and you will get an idea as to what is happening:
    1. Drag and drop a button, 2 outputText components
    2. Add a property to the session bean called intValue of type int. Customize it to set it's initial value to 0
    3. Add the following lines of code to the constructor
    outputText1.setValue("" + getSessionBean1().getIntValue());
    getSessionBean1().setIntValue(getSessionBean1().getIntValue()+1);
    4. Double click on the button component to go to the button action method.
    5. Add the following line of code
    outputText2.setValue("" + etSessionBean1().getIntValue());
    6. Save and run the application
    7. Watch the values of outputText1 and outputText2 with each click of the button
    Also, try the application with the following code block in the button action method:
    if(getSessionBean1().getIntValue()%2==0){
    button1.setValue("Bid Now");
    } else{
    button1.setValue("Accept Invitation");
    getSessionBean1().setIntValue(getSessionBean1().getIntValue()+1);
    outputText1.setValue(button1.getValue());
    outputText2.setValue("" + getSessionBean1().getIntValue());
    When the above code block is in the button action method the values set to button are as expected.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Giri :-)

  • Action method of backing bean called multiple times instead of once.

    Hi,
    My backing bean has an action method called "saveEquipmentList" that's called when a "Save" button is clicked. The problem is, this method gets executed twice every time the button is clicked so data gets peristed twice, db triggers get executed twice, etc., it's really pretty annoying. I've put the bean method's code and the JSF command button below, notice that there's a check for FacesContext.getRenderResponse() that I put in for debugging, the code doesn't get executed at all if I leave the FacesContext.getRenderResponse() in, sure, you're saying "So what's you point", no point, just thought I'd explain why the check is in there.
    Thanks,
    Alex
    public synchronized String saveEquipmentList() throws Exception {
    // Order is very important.
    if (FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getRenderResponse()) {
    System.out.println("GOT RENDER RESPONSE... XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX");
    try {
    loadEquipmentCodesMap(); // Loads map from equip_code_ids in the DB.
    updateEquipCodesMap(); // Updates total for objcode/type to sum of equipment items for that objcode/type.
    saveEquipmentCodes(); // Saves to equipment_codes table.
    loadEquipmentCodesMap();
    updateDataList();
    savedataList();
    updateTotals();
    loadEquipmentList();
    catch (Exception e) {
    setErrMessage("Error saving equipment: " + e.getMessage());
    return "success";
    }else{
    //facesContext.getCurrentInstance().renderResponse();
    return "success";
                                <h:panelGroup id="pg54">
                                  <h:commandButton id="save" disabled="#{(user.role == '2' and backing_equipmentScreen.viewOnly) or
                                                                                          (user.role == '1' and !backing_equipmentScreen.viewOnly)}"
                                                   value="Save"

                                                   styleClass="input"/>
                                </h:panelGroup>

    Here's the phase listener output before clicking the "Save" button (which calls the saveEquipmentList() action method), I pasted it all, from app started to breakpoint, couldn't get it all in due to the 30K char constraint:

  • Problem with seting action method to a Hyperlink object

    Hi there,
    as the subject says, I have a problem wih setting the action method of a Hyperlink object. Here is how the program is organized:
    I have an external bean which generates an ArrayList of Hyperlink objects. In the backing bean of my web page I call a method from the above mentioned external bean to generate the list of hyperlink objects. After that in the page bean I insert the hyperlink objects in GridPanel component. So far everything works fine, but the action method of the Hyperlink objects is not called and I can't understant why.
    Here is how I add the objects to the GridPanel component:
    private void populateGridPanel()
            Hyperlink hyper;
            for(int i=0; i< checkboxList.size(); i++)
                    hyper = (Hyperlink) hyperlinkList.get(i);
                    vehicleGridPanel.getChildren().add(hyper);
        }All properties of the Hyperlink objects are set in the external bean not in the page bean, here is how:
    //action method executed when the hyperlink is clicked
    MethodBinding mb = (MethodBinding) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().createMethodBinding("#{Page1.hyperlink_action}", null);
    veHyperlink.setAction(mb);The populateGridPanel() method is called in the init() method of the page bean, after the initialization of all other components.
    An interesting fact is that if I manually drag-n-drop a hyperlink object to my page and programatically set its action method with the code above everything works fine. But using the same code for the dynamically generated hyperlink objects inserted in the grid panel doesn't work.
    Any kind of help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    I got this use case to work as follows:
    1. Drag a Grid Panel and set its columns property to 1.
    2. Drag a Message Group.
    3. Use the following code in Page1:
    public void prerender() {
    populateGridPanel();
    private void populateGridPanel() {
    if (gridPanel1.getChildren().size() > 0) {return;}
    for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
    Hyperlink veHyperlink = new Hyperlink();
    //action method executed when the hyperlink is clicked
    MethodBinding mb = (MethodBinding) FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().createMethodBinding("#{Page1.hyperlink_action}", null);
    veHyperlink.setAction(mb);
    veHyperlink.setText("dynamic hyperlink " + i);
    veHyperlink.setId("dynamicHyperlink" + i);
    gridPanel1.getChildren().add(veHyperlink);
    public void hyperlink_action() {
    info("Yup it worked at: " + new java.util.Date());
    4. Fix imports, Run, and then click on the hyperlinks.

  • CommandButton's Action method doesn't  work

    Hi all
    My English isn't very good
    I use jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0
    I have SelectOneRadio with two options. When I select each option two PanelGroupLayouts' visible should change:
    <af:selectOneRadio id="sor1" layout="horizontal"
    binding="#{Bean1.sor_Value}"
    valueChangeListener="#{Bean1.chg_sor}"
    autoSubmit="true">
    <af:selectItem label="1" value="1" id="si1"/>
    <af:selectItem label="2" value="2" id="si2"/>
    </af:selectOneRadio>
    public void chg_sor(ValueChangeEvent valueChangeEvent) {
    if (sor_Value.getValue().toString().equals("1")) {
    pgl_1.setVisible(true);
    pgl_2.setVisible(false);
    } else {
    pgl_1.setVisible(false);
    pgl_2.setVisible(true);
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(pgl_1);
    AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget(pgl_2);
    In each pgl I have a commandButton with a method related to theirs' action property. but When I click each button nothing happen and their related method don't run.
    but when I use rendered instead of visible in method: "chg_sor" , buttons' action method work well but in this case another error occurs because I can't ppr components that are not rendered.
    I don't know how solve this problem?
    Habib

    Thanks Frank
    In each pgl I have inputText with required=True. and if required field is null and pgl become invisible(visible = false) so the button's Action method on the other pgl(visible = true) doesn't run.
    why this happen?

  • OID 10.1.4.2.0 for Linux Preview Install : Any insight on why this fails?

    This question is also posted in the "Forum: Oracle Authentication Services for Operating System"
    I am trying to install the preview. I am using example provided in OID-LinuxWorld-Demo-OAS_viewlet_swf.html.
    Any insight on why this fails? see below...
    [oracle@akaoradev-vm1 ~]$ su - root
    Password:
    [root@akaoradev-vm1 ~]# up2date oracle-oid
    Fetching Obsoletes list for channel: el5_i386_latest...
    Fetching rpm headers...
    Name Version Rel
    The following packages you requested were not found:
    oracle-oid
    [root@akaoradev-vm1 ~]#

    The error indicates that the password (or wallet) files oidpwdldap1 and oidpwdr<ORACLE_SID> do NOT exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin or your $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are set incorrectly (a bit unlikely).
    Assuming that the $ORACLE_HOME and $PATH are indeed set to correct values, if the 2 files mentioned above do not exist under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin, then perform the below action plan:
    1. Set the ORACLE_HOME to INFRASTRUCTURE ORACLE_HOME
    2. set the PATH to $ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/ldap/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin:$PATH
    3. Ensure that you are able to login to sqlplus as "ods" user.
    4. If you do NOT know the password of ods user, then reset the password.
    5. Run the below command and enter the ods password when prompted for it.
    oidpasswd create_wallet=true
    6. Voila! The Wallet files are created under $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin.

  • Is there a way to get "clientId" from an action method?

    Actions and action listeners are similar, but there is an important difference. The listener does not return a view for navigation, but an action does not get the ActionEvent parameter, and hence does not have a trivial way to get at the client id that invoked it.
    Sometimes its seems you need both.
    If an action can fail and you cannot know for certain until the action is attempted (for example, a database operation), it is nice to be able to queue a message to the component that invoked the action and redisplay the view which now contains the error indication. On success however, an new view should be navigated to.
    This requires that the action get at a client id, and often the logical client id is of the component the user used to invoke the action. Is there a built in way to get this id from an action method?
    Ideally an action should have the signature Object action(ActionEvent) or am I missing something?

    Unfortunately this requires both action and actionListener be specified in the viewThere is a nasty workaround possible where you get the clientId of the invoked button from the RequestParameterMap so that you can only use the UICommand action method, but I wouldn't recommend that.
    and if the listener is forgotten the message will get attached in the wrong place, or end up global.Isn't that just a developer fault?
    Also, is'nt there a (tiny) concern about multi-threaded failure if a user happens to have two windows open on the same application?Not if your bean is request scoped. If your bean is session scoped, then the user have to be very fast, or your server have to be very slow. With very I really mean very+.
    The other way I considered was via binding, but his also burdens the view with an extra attribute.What is your functional requirement after all? Sounds like to me that you rather need f:setPropertyActionListener or f:attribute. Also see http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/communication-in-jsf.html for some examples and new insights.

  • Visio Conversion Failed on open method

    Hi all, we have developped a C# remoting application (.NET 1.1) that use Acrobat Pro v7.0 on server side (Windows 2000 SP4)
    This server application have to convert Visio files to PDF files.
    For this we use Acrobat Interop SDK as follow :
    Acrobat.CAcroApp app = new AcroAppClass() ;
    Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc PDDoc = new AcroPDDocClass() ;
    Acrobat.CAcroAVDoc AvDoc = new AcroAVDocClass() ;
    DirectoryInfo directory = new DirectoryInfo(myDirSource) ;
    if(directory.Exists)
    FileInfo[] filesInfo = directory.GetFiles(FICHIER_VSD) ;
    foreach(FileInfo myfile in filesInfo)
    // OPEN may failed
    if(AvDoc.Open(myfile .FullName, "Export PDF") == true)
    AvDoc = (Acrobat.CAcroAVDoc)app.GetActiveDoc() ;
    if(AvDoc.IsValid() == true)
    PDDoc = (Acrobat.CAcroPDDoc)AvDoc.GetPDDoc() ;
    string fileNameDest = myDirDestination+ "\\" +
    myfile.Name.ToLower().Replace(EXTENSION_VSD,EXTENSION_PDF) ;
    PDDoc.Save((short)PDSaveFlags.PDSaveFull, fileNameDest);
    PDDoc.Close() ;
    PDDoc = null;
    AvDoc.Close(0) ;
    }// end foreach(FileInfo myfile in filesInfo)
    app.Exit() ;
    AvDoc = null;
    app = null;
    The application works fine most of time.
    In some case the Visio conversion failed in open method, so no pdf is generated and Visio and Acrobat popup dialog appears.
    The problem is not due to Visio Data, because the same file can be well converted or failed!
    More when this problem occurs in application it occurs too using directly conversion from Visio or Acrobat.
    Some time we have to repair Visio and Acrobat Pro...
    We suspect that there is something wrong on the platform (context pb, install pb...).
    So the questions are:
    - is there a documentation about what Acrobat (PDF Maker) does during conversion.
    - is there any way to understand why "open" method failed (just return true or false).
    - is there any log file that can give informations about failed conversion.
    - is there some cache mechanism during conversion that can cause the pb during open file.
    Thanks for reply.
    NicolaS.

    Yes NicholaS this is a technical forum and not a pre-sales forum.
    However, Leonard is an Adobe employee and is simply protecting the interests of his company from people publicly commenting on their illegal and unlicensed use of his products (on that companies forums, nonetheless) as any good employee should.
    You agreed to the EULA when you installed the application. If you chose not to read what you were agreeing to and end up breaching that agreement it is not Leonard or Adobe's fault, it is solely your own.

  • Why not to use static methods - with example

    Hi Everyone,
    I'd like to continue the below thread about "why not to use static methods"
    Why not to use static methods
    with a concrete example.
    In my small application I need to be able to send keystrokes. (java.awt.Robot class is used for this)
    I created the following class for these "operations" with static methods:
    public class KeyboardInput {
         private static Robot r;
         static {
              try {
                   r = new Robot();
              } catch (AWTException e) {
                   throw new RuntimeException(e + "Robot couldn't be initialized.");
         public static void wait(int millis){
              r.delay(millis);
         public static void copy() {
              r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_CONTROL);
              r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_C);
              r.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_C);
              r.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_CONTROL);
         public static void altTab() {
              r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_ALT);
              r.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_TAB);
              r.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_TAB);
              r.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_ALT);
                   // more methods like  paste(), tab(), shiftTab(), rightArrow()
    }Do you thinks it is a good solution? How could it be improved? I've seen something about Singleton vs. static methods somewhere. Would it be better to use Singleton?
    Thanks for any comments in advance,
    lemonboston

    I think a singleton might be a better approach for you. Just kill the public constructor and provide a getInstance method to provide lazy initialization.Thanks maheshguruswamy for advising on the steps to create a singleton from this class.
    Could you maybe advise also about why do you say that it would be better to use singleton? What's behind it? Thanks!In short, it seems to me that a single instance of your class will be able to coordinate actions across your entire application. So a singleton should be enough.But that doesn't answer why he should prefer a singleton instead over a bunch of static methods. Functionally the two are almost identical. In both cases there's only one "thing" on which to call methods--either a single instance of the class, or the class itself.
    To answer the question, the main reason to use a Singleton over a classful of static methods is the same reason the drives a lot of non-static vs. static decisions: Polymorphism.
    If you use a Singleton (and and interface), you can do something like this:
    KeyboardInput kbi = get_some_instance_of_some_class_that_implements_KeyboardInput_somehow_maybe_from_a_factory();And then whatever is calling KBI's public methods only has to know that it has an implementor of that interface, without caring which concrete class it is, and you can substitute whatever implementation is appropriate in a given context. If you don't need to do that, then the static method approach is probably sufficient.
    There are other reasons that may suggest a Singleton--serialization, persistence, use as a JavaBean pop to mind--but they're less common and less compelling in my experience.
    And finally, if this thing maintains any state between method calls, although you can handle that with static member variables, it's more in keeping with the OO paradigm to make them non-static fields of an instance of that class.

  • Backingfile:prerender() and action method in page flow

    I am using backing file in a pageflow based portlet in WLP8.1sp5, and implemented its prerender method. After navigating to the middle of this pageflow, the session became expired after 15 mins of inactivity (this is expected). However, when a user click an action button in the browser which sent the request to the stale session, I expected my backing file prerender is invoked and I can check for expired session and route user to a timeout page. But this didn't happen. Instead, I see an ugly error page complaining that action couldn't be found in the pageflow. Of course, the session is no longer there.
    My questions are:
    1. Why WLP framework behave this way? Why backing wasn't called prior to action method of the pageflow?
    2. In WLP (8.1sp5), is there a pattern to handle expired session and render/display a "session timed out" page.
    Thanks in advance!

    I tried it. However, I encountered two problems:
    1. I placed the backing file at desktop level. And the page backing contexts I got back are null:
    try {
    DesktopBackingContext ctx = DesktopBackingContext.getDesktopBackingContext(request);
    BookBackingContext bbc = ctx.getBookBackingContext();
    List children = bbc.getPageBackingContexts();
    for (Iterator i = children.iterator(); i.hasNext();)
    PageBackingContext pbc = (PageBackingContext) i.next();
    String label = pbc.getLabel();
    boolean bv = lableInArrayList(label, al);
    pbc.setVisible(bv);
    pbc.setActive(bv);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    where list "children" is returned as null, thus the null pointer exception when I tried to get an iterator.
    How come?
    2. When using SPNEGO single sign on, there is no straightforward and sure way to tell whether the request is (a) first time hit (i.e. session is new) or (b) is a hit after the session expires (i.e. the session is new again but I lost all pageflow state etc.). I could use request.getQueryString() as an indicator for (b) because the query string wouldn't be null vs. first hit http://.../abc.portal (without any query string). My question is: is this method request.getQueryString() a reliable way to indicate (b)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Action method calls when refreshing the JSF page

    I have a test application which contains a JSF page. The page contains a command button. Button's action attribute is mapped with action method in managed bean.Inside action method I am not doing anything and just redirecting to the same page using navigation-rule configured in faces-config.xml. I deployed the application and tested the page.
    This is what I observed.
    scenario 1:
    ===========
    1) Run the page.
    2) Refresh the page.
    Observation:
    Action method not called.
    scenario 2:
    ===========
    1) Run the page.
    2) Click the command button.
    2) Refresh the page any number of times.
    Observation:
    For each and every time the page is refreshed Action method is called.
    Can anybody tell me why it is happening?
