Why create transport group

Hi PI Gurus,
We create transport groups in SLD and assign respective BS in that (Source and Target) so that when transporting the objects,
the corresponding BS should point to respective system (QA or PRD).
Is this is the only reason why we create transport groups or without creating the groups we also can transport the objects.

to avoid to rewrite manually in QA a complete flow, eventually with BPM(s) and several senders / receivers, that's for me an enough reason to win time and to avoid new error due to a bad manual action...in QA... but also after that in PROD (which will be worst)
or without creating the groups we also can transport the objects.
without a transport group, in the best behaviour (if it's best), you have in QA a flow with Dev systems... but I think now (I wish) with SolMan / CTS you should have an error in your transport (tx STMS).
That's funny, I never tested it.... perhaps, because I don't want to rewrite a complete flow

Changing default Target Group when creating transports.

We have 4 different target groups for the transports created in development systems. I would like to make one transport group default which is mainly used by majority of consultants.

Transport Layer in ABAP Workbench
The Change and Transport System supports the distribution of development work on large projects across multiple SAP Systems.
The packages in each development system are grouped into one transport layer.
The transport layer determines whether objects are assigned to a local or transportable change request.
Use
Each of your SAP development systems is assigned a transport layer as its standard transport layer. If you use Extended Transport Control, you can assign different standard transport layers to certain clients.
You can define at the most one consolidation target for each SAP System and transport layer.
When you create a package, it is assigned the standard transport layer of the SAP System.
If you want to assign a different transport layer to a package, you require the administration authorization for the Change and Transport System.
The objects in a package automatically have the transport attributes defined for the corresponding transport layer.
If a consolidation route originating in their SAP System is defined, then the objects are assigned to a transportable request, and transported into the consolidation target when it is released.
If a consolidation route is not defined, the objects are assigned to a local request, and are not transported.
Customizing settings are not assigned to a package. They have the transport attributes of the standard transport layer of the system or client.

Only the system adminstrator can make changes.
Caution:

How to create a group calendar?

Hello,
i am sorry but this is one more question on wiki-group-calendars.
*In short:*
I am not able to create a group calendar with the wiki frontend. the calendar that is created with a wiki is owned by the admin of the wiki. So it is always a personal calendar that cannot be shared in iCal.
LONG:
I want to create a group calendar that is viewed and edited through iCal.app and the web service. Apple´s "wiki deployment" guide says on page 57:
+"The web calendar allows you to easily schedule events for yourself or your group. ...+
+There are *two types of web calendars: personal and group*. You can send and receive event invitations through the personal calendar but not through the group calendar. Also, *while anyone in a group can create or edit events in a group calendar*, you can edit only events in your own personal calendar or event invitations you send to other people.+
+The web calendar uses iCal Server to store events and invitations. ..."+
But there is not mentioned how to create a group calendar. The calendar created with the wiki web-frontend belongs to the admin of that particular wiki. This is why the calendar data ist stored in folder named with the UUID of the wiki admin. Also the alias "http://server.fqdn:8008/principals/groups/mygroupname/" which i provided in iCal turns into ..._uids_UUID-of-the-wiki-admin and only the wiki-admin can access this calendar in iCal.app.
My research on this topic reveals that there were in issue that should be resolved in 10.6.4 (that is running on our Server). So, again, how to create a group calendar?

You said "you need to go to the wiki page and add the wiki's there...." What is the "wiki page" you mention? Is that some place I go to via the browser or the Server Admin tool?
I went to http://ical.mysite.com/ical/ and logged in as the Directory Administrator but didn't see anything resembling what you described.

How to create a group of devices in MARS

Hi folks.
I have quite a list of devices which MARS pulls syslog from and the client's security policy requires to run periodic queries against those devices (they are 871 routers). Is there any way to create a group of devices and add it to the "Reporting devices" instead of manually checking every router.

I'll try to be more detailed. There's a custom rule which is created to run a query for a specific event type. The query is run against many devices and the list of devices added to MARS earlier is quite big. So when you configure the rule at "Reporting Devices" section there is a limited list of devices (see attachment). I wish I can have a custom device type which will include all devices in question.
Plus, why there's no "Select All" button for the right pane. This would be quite logical once you have a list devices showing in your right hand pane. Instead of going through all of them and click each one clicking "Select All" would be nice.

How to Create a Group for Permissions?

When I create a new folder, the default owner is my home directory name ("short name") and the default group is also my home directory name ("short name"). Why is this? What is a group? How do I create a group name if I want to pick one myself?
Are there any good tutorials/books on permsissions/owners/groups that explain how to set up accounts and use permissions at the average user level? "Mac help" is very skimpy in the a how/why to do something with ownership and permissions.

In Mac OS X, every user account is a member of at least one group, and every file and folder has group permissions assigned. Groups give permissions to sets of users who are able to perform similar functions. Mac OS X does not provide an application to easily create and manage groups. Instead, it uses some preset groups to give users permissions and functionality. If you need to create and manage groups, you will need to use Mac OS X Server, or the built in NetInfo Manager.
If you need more information, any book dealing with OS X and Unix should suffice.

Transportation group at delivery header

Dear Friends,
while creating the delivery from some of the plants transportation group not determined at delivery header level, but i can find the same at item level.
Can you please let me know how it gets determined at header level, if there is any specal setting required.
customer is having the shipping condition
Material is having the transportation group
route is determined properly..
the only the proble is transportation zone at delivery header level.
can you treat this one as top prioiry and let me know.

for few of the cases it is working fine
What those few cases are ?? Different delivery type ?? Different Material code ?? You need to analyse this and compare in your system.

Error when creating purchasing group.

Hi,
i am facing two issue when creating purchasing group. i never had such a situation before.
i have created two p.groups successfully and moved to quality.later i figured one of them is missing USER ID now when i try to enter user ID in user column getting below mention error.
Entry XXXX Does not exist in USR02-check your entry.message no 00058.i have checked in USR02 None of ID's exist i used in newly created groups.but ID i used in other groups has no issue even doesn't exist in USR02,but it shows value US in OB(Object type filed).
both ID's are not being created in Development in other words SAP ID's with SU01 but we never had such issue before while changing or creating now purchasing group.
Another thing i have noticed that OB(Object type field is missing in Dev.) i can see that field in Quality even in sand box but not visible in Dev.that when i use OME4.but when i use SM30-V_024 i can see the OB field.Somehow OB field is hidden when going through SPRO or ME04.
This is about Sap ver.4.7

Before creating new purchasing groups- 1st check your user ID is authorized to purchasing groups create in t.code: OME4.
In development system you can creates new purchasing groups with USER ID and telephone numbers, upon saving system will create a transport request. Later you can transfer related transport request to quality system for your testing.
For example: You can creates new purchasing groups with USER ID and telephone numbers

JS CS3 Fastest way to create a group

I have a selection of about 1050 elements and to create a group I'm using:
var myNewGroup = new Array;
for (i=app.selection.length-1; i>=0; i--) {
myNewGroup.push (app.selection[i]);
var myGroup = app.activeDocument.groups.add(myNewGroup);
This works but it's very slow. I have tried the following:
var myNewGroup = app.selection;
var myGroup = app.activeDocument.groups.add(myNewGroup);
The app.selection approach gives me an Invalid parameter error. What I don't understand is that the working code creates an array and adds each element to the array then a group is created from that array.
With the second approach app.selection is an array so why does this group?

The document I'm trying this on is supplied not created by me so I should of run a test on a doc a created first, so I did. I made a new A4 doc and place a number of text elements on the page then selected them and ran the script again. Sure enough the selection became a group.
So I went back to the supplied doc and selected a couple of the frame and check under the Object menu , Content and to my surprise the options Graphic, Text, and Unassigned were all grayed out (could not select any).
Yet when I ran:
$.write(app.selection[1].constructor.name+"\n");
the console returns TextFrame and for
$.write(app.selection[1].contentType+"\n");
the console returns 1952412773 (TEXT_TYPE).
So there seems to be an issue with the file not the script. Thanks for you help Kris much appreciated.

How to manage transport groups in SLD

Hi all,
I am facing some problems while trying to create/assign transports groups to the Business systems in my SLD. (i am using PI 7.0)
I have only 2 XI boxes (one for DEV and the other one for PRD) BUT my R/3 landscape consists of 3 environments (DEV, QA and PRD). I created 3 groups in the SLD but i had to assign every group to a Integration server, so i couldnt
Could you please give me some help about how to handle this kind of scenarios??

Do you have 1 central SLD or local on each XI?
What is the issue you are having specifically?
Have you tried creating the 2 'true' XI groups and assigning every DEV system to the DEV group and all PROD systems to PROD group.
You can choose to assign your QA to DEV group - your only QA objects should be the backend - this is not mandatory.
Make the promotion (source-target) assignment for the groups as follows DEV --> PROD
Since you are moving IR and ID objects across these groups then it will work correctly.

You also have the option of using the same transaction to carry out the following activities:
Creating superior hierarchy levels
Assigning the superior hierarchy levels to a material group hierarchy
Assigning the base material group to the material group hierarchy
Assigning characteristics profiles below material group level
Requirements
Your R/3 System is configured as an SAP Retail System.
Activities
1. Create superior hierarchy levels
   You create hierarchy levels using transaction WG01 (creating
   material groups) via menu options MG environment --> Hierarchy
   level --> Create
2. Assign the superior hierarchy levels to a material group hierarchy
   You assign hierarchy levels to a hierarchy using transaction WG01
   (creating material groups) via menu options MG environment -->

When creating material groups and then maintaining the pre-defined materials (reference material/material group material) you should be aware of the following.

The material group reference material should be defined in as much detail as possible so as to keep the workload to a minimum when you have to create more materials for this material group.
All hierarchy allocations involving a material group (base material group) and a higher or lower hierarchy level can be carried out on the initial screen (there is no need to switch to the detail screen). All further hierarchy allocations can be defined top-down when you maintain material group hierarchies.
Only the material groups are transported automatically!

Is there a way to create a group function?

I want to create a group function like max,sum,count for a
pl/sgl function. This group function will be something like max
(let's call it max2) but it will return the second highest value
of a group.

My question is can this be done in a single select statement. I
know it can be done with an intermediate step (of the creation
of a temp table).
Plus i would like to ask the experts, would a single select
statement be more efficient?
NOTE: the tables and data are just test data. The real tables

has about 1 million records. That's why i am worried about
efficiency.

After Hit enter, its not look like group, it look like subgroup entry... why? how to create group

How do you create contact groups for e-mail for iPhone 3GS AND IPAD 2 ?

GContacts is for both the iPhone and iPad. It can be found in the US App Store. Don't know what country you're in so I can't say for sure you can find it in your App Store. If you do a search on "contacts" in your App Store you should be able to find some contact manager apps.
There is a way to create a contact with a group of email addresses.
1. In Notes app create a list of email addresses separated by a comma. Example [email protected],[email protected] Highlight the list and copy.
2. In Contacts create a new contact and give it the name of the group you want.
3. In the email field paste the list of email addresses.
Note: you are probably wondering why you have to copy and paste the addresses into the email field. If you try to type the list into the email field, you will find that there is no way to type a comma in this field.
4. Save the contact.
5. When you create an email, select the group entry from contacts.
You may get a message that the email address is invalid, but ignore the error, because the email should still be sent to all addresses.

Cannot create a group with no members through DAS

I'm using OID 10.1.2.0.2.
It seems that the DAS Self Service Console cannot work with groups with no members:
- When creating a group, it always assigns orcladmin as a member.
- When deleting the last member from a group, an error is shown ("Require at least one user or group member").
- If you create an empty group via other means (e.g. the oidadmin tool), the group will not be visible in the "role assignment" section when creating a new user (even though we enabled that group for role assignment in the "user entry" configuration). After adding one member through the "edit group" page, the role shows up in the role assignment section.
I have a couple of questions regarding this:
1) Is this limitation (group must have at least one member) an ldap or OID limitation, or is it only a DAS or even "self service console" limitation?
2) Why is this limitation there?
3) Is there a way to work around this, i.e. make self service console be able to handle empty groups?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not agree that a group owner should be a member of that group. For example, I have a group "admins" and a group "analysts". The "admins" group is owner of the "analysts" group, since the users in the "admins" group must be able to create users and assign them to the "analysts" group. However, the "admins" group is not member of the "analysts" group, because I do not want the admins to act as analysts in my application. Ownership of a group (being able to manage it) and membership of a group are two different things. Besides, I also do not understand why the OIDDAS makes the orcladmin user a member of every group that you create there.
Of course, eventually I will have members in my group. But why is it a problem that there are initially no members of a group? I see no reason at all why this would be a problem.
The reason why I ask this is that creating an empty group (initially) is a requirement of my setup process. I am trying to release a clean setup script (with an ldif file) out of development, that our operational department can use to set things up. I want my ldif file to prepare all the necessary groups and owners, but not to create members in those groups (that's the task of the operational people).
However, as soon as I have these empty groups in place, the OIDDAS starts to act strangely (namely, the groups are not visible in the "role assignment" section when creating a user, until there is at least one member in the groups). That's when I found out that the OIDDAS actually does not like having empty groups (error when creating group without members, error when removing last member, ...).
If anyone knows, can you give me one good reason why the OIDDAS does not allow empty groups (or making groups empty)? As far as I can see, the OID/LDAP itself does not have a problem with this (you can create an empty group without any problem via the oidadmin application, or via import of an ldif file).
