Why do apple need to use my credit number when downloading free apps ?

im about to download a free app - as i have done many times before
and now itunes needs my creditcard info to be correct .. why ? its supposed to be free ?
well i filled the forms with a correct credit card number (my mastercard) and still no result - itunes tells med i should enter a valid payment method
it seems i cant download freee apps when theres not any money on my bank account ? well well ..
can someone tell me why ?

Apple wants you to risk your number out on the internet maybe, they don't care about customers. They state that it is for validation of your account, but this make no sense as you already have entered a username and password, which seems to work fine on any other site. They basically want your wallet to be held hostage, even for updating already installed apps (this should make you think). This is bad in my book, and I think Apple should change this action ASAP. It is not right and they know it, but greed seems to be the game for them I guess.  You should not have to risk your credit card number being transmitted across the internet just to update or install a free app. Android market place does not do things this way.
Just Sad how this is

  • HT5858 Why does my iPad and iPhone ask for verification when downloading free apps

What does my iPad ask for verification when trying to download free app from App Store

You are required to provide credit card details to download apps be it free or paid.
Nothing will be deducted from your credit card if the app is free.
There will be a authorizing hold of US$1.00 to verify your account information. It will be credited back to your account later.

  • HT5622 Why am I asked to Leave my credit card information for free apps?

Why am I asked to leave Or provide my credit card information to download a free app?

To expound just a little bit more on what Ralph is saying ...if you do not set up your Apple ID in a very specific way from the start, Yoy have to enter credit card details even if you are downloading free apps. Your account details are now incompletely with the credit card, even though you don't want to use a credit card.
This explains exactly how you have to set up an Apple ID if you do not want to use a credit card. If you did not set up the account this way, you are now forced to enter the credit card - if you want to use this ID.

  • HT201272 Why am I asked for bank details when downloading free apps?

When trying to install and download free apps from the app store why am I asked to enter my bank details and confirm my purchase???

For the App Store you need an Apple ID with a credit card tied to it.
Apple will make an Authorisation Holds for a $1 to verify credit card information but will be not charge.

  • Why do i need to use a credit card to do updates

I don't want to set up iTunes with a credit card, however, when I try to update something like iPhoto it requires me to have a credit card.  If it is a free update then why do I need to put in a credit card number?

  • Why do I need to verify my credit card info if an App is free?

Why do I need to have a valid credit card in my Apple Account if an App is free? For example I have been trying to download the free app to Google Earth to my iPad2. I really want to just delete my credit card except for those few times when I buy something. I don't want it on my iPad2 all the time. I know there is a way to do this as the woman at the Apple store did it for me, but now I don't know what steps she took.
    Thanks very much.

Because even a free app is recorded as and is considered a purchase for accounting purposes. You receive an email receipt for the free purchase or download, etc.
Your credit card on file is not on your iPad all the time. It is stored on Apple's iTunes servers only. No one that uses your iPad or that has access to your iPad in the even it were lost or stolen can't access your credit card number and other required info in order to use it. In order to download a free or paid app, you must manually enter your iTunes account password, which no one else knows or should not know.

  • Why would I need to use LiveCycle Data Services in a Flex app?

I cannot figure out what additional functionality is provided by using LiveCycle Data Services in my Flex apps.  I cannot get a clear understanding of how using LiveCycle Data Services would benefit my applications.  Does someone out there use LiveCycle Data Services?  If so, what do you do with it in Flex?
    Thanks!

    - data push for publish/subscribe implementations
User has to do nothing to get updated information. You push it to their machine when new data is available, like Yahoo finance updated quotes.
    - data paging
You don't want to display one million rows in your datagrid at once. Get a batch of data, if the user scrolls down, get the next batch, etc.
    - server side clustering
One server does not get overloaded. High traffic sites have their large number of concurrent connections managed more efficiently.
    - JMS services
JMS is a powerful technology for messaging throughout an application, and LCDS makes it much easier.
    - RTMP tunneling
Allows the use of the RTMP protocol in LiveCycle Data Services applications. Makes it easier to traverse firewalls and proxies appropriately that currently prevent direct RTMP client connections to the server.

  • Why do I need to provide my phone number when purchasing Lightroom?

I've never had to provide my phone number before on any other platform which I've ordered other products on. Why do I need to provide such a personal information to Adobe?

I can think of two reasons:
    1)  A phone number is typically asked for when purchasing via a credit-card so the card can be validated.
    2)  So Adobe, at some point in the future, can call you to set up a remote session with your computer as part of a technical-support issue resolution..

  • HT204053 Does iCloud backup both accounts' apps on a device? We are an institution that enables users to use a "personal" account to download free apps to supplement the "institutional" account apps.

A user whose device had been recently restored to a different institutional backup, noticed her personal account apps were no longer on the device.

    Here's how to do it.
    1. App Store, iTunes Store should have the same AppleID on Computer and iPhones. (Free to share apps, music and books... )
    2. Person A uses the same purchasing account for everything (ie. email, contacts and ...).
    3. Person B have the same purchase account see no. 1 (for App Store and iTunes Store) but create a second AppleID for iCal, e-mail, contacts  and etc.

You can create a new Apple ID without using a credit card for download free apps by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534.  Follow it exactly as writtien.  Note that you have to download and try to install a free app and then create the ID.

  • Why am i asked to give credit card details for free apps

I just bought an ipad mini. Why is it asking me to give credit card details for free apps like Linkedin?

If you only want the free apps, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)
    Regards.

I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. You have an Apple ID already, so unfortunately the instructions in this link will not work for you as it states that these instructions are for those users who have not yet created an Apple ID as you may easily read.
If you have not created an Apple ID yet, this article will assist you in doing so on your computer in iTunes or on an iOS device.
If you wish to create another Apple ID for use with free content, my experience with experimenting with the instructions in this Knowledge Base article have always resulted in a None option in literally dozens of different country's iTunes/Mac App stores
Those users with an existing Apple ID are redirected by this article to a different Apple Knowledge Base article which unfortunately will likely not assist you in your goal of downloading Apple content without supplying a bank card or an alternative payment method, such as an iTunes/Mac App Store gift card.
If you have registered your product or used any Apple services, you should follow this article to use an existing Apple ID with the iTunes Store or Mac App Store.
    That paragraph, by way of the hyperlink, then directs users with an existing Apple ID to this article;
Using an existing Apple ID with the iTunes Store and Mac App Store
Following the instructions in this linked article will likely not offer you the None option.
