Why do imessage settings keep changing back to my email rather than my phone number when I didn't change anything?

For some reason my iPhone 5 has been automatically changing my imessage settings to send/receive from my email rather than my phone number.  Even after I go back and correct it the same thing happens again later. Now I cannot receive any texts from a particular number (belongs to iPhone 4 owner) but they can receive mine, how do I fix this???

I assume your phone is using your phone number. Select an E-Mail also. Under the Select Area a new Area should show up offering to choose whether to use the number or the E-Mail to start new conversations. Pick the Phone number. Go to iMessage and start new conversations.

After reading what you have posted, I checked my iPhone 4S. When looking at messages in settings, my receive at has 2 addresses, my phone number and my Apple ID email address. The phone number is "under intensified" as you describe it. Checking the Caller ID, it shows my phone number and Apple ID email. The phone number is checked. This all seems to be the same as you describe yours. My text messages are all working as they always have, and they are showing as coming from my phone number. Both to people that I iMessage with and people that I can only text with. I'm not sure why you say texts are being sent from your Mac email. Did someone receive a text that shows the email as the return address?

  • Hey i was wondering if you could change your iChat account name to your cell phone number ?

Is there a way to change it from your email to a cell phone number?

    HI,
I am not entirely sure what you are trying to achieve.
AIM accounts (Screen Names) can be linked to some extent to Mobile/Cell phone
https://settings.aim.com/  You need to Log in here to see more info in the Mobile setting
You can also Send SMS to US based phones (on Carriers that support this)
http://www.aim.com/  Scroll down the page a little.
Basically an US based Cell Phone Number can be added As If it is a Buddy.  (Technically the Computer has to be set to the US to see the menu items in some version of iChat).
My the time you update to Mountain Lion then the Messages app has iMessages added to what iChat can do.
The iMessages account can link and then sync iMessages sent to an iPhone Number  and /or and Apple ID.
It will work on the Mac version of Messages meaning you can Send If you were the iPhone (number)  and also receive iMessages sent to the iPhone number)
The same is true on the iPhone it can Receive and Send from both.
I chat can not do this last item.
There is no way that I now of to "Spoof" a phone number as the Screen Name  other than th Mobile Link in the first item I linked you to.

  • Why are my messages being sent through email rather than iMessage?

Why are my messages being sent as email rather than iMessage?

Not being sent as email - shown as being sent from an email address because you have selected to start new iMessage conversations from your Apple ID email address on your iPhone.
When registering an iPhone with iMessage, the phone number along with your Apple ID email address is registered with it.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start New Conversations From - select your iPhone's phone number.

  • I have an iPhone 5c and when i try to IMessage my contacts if they have an iPhone it sends it off of my email instead of my phone number what do i do to fix this?

I have an iPhone 5c recently updated with iOS 8, i am having problems with my IMessage.  when i try to IMessage my contacts, instead of sending the IMessage from my phone number the message is sent with my email. i also cannot be in a group chat due to me texting off of my email. i don't want this to happen.. what are ways to fix this so i no longer can text off of my email.

Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and make sure that your phone number is checked and iMessage reads as activated. Remove the checkmark from the email address and make sure that only the phone number if checked. It should appear grayed out, but should still have a checkmark. If the phone number does not have a checkmark, then turn off iMessage, wait a few moments and then turn iMessage back on and make sure that it activates.

  • Using more than one phone number on single iPhone for iMessage?

Is it possible to intentionally have more than one phone number listed under Settings > Messages > Send & Receive?  I know I've heard of 'glitches' where more than one phone number is shown accidentally and how that is solved (signing out of iMessage and then back in), but if you want to intentionally have more than one phone number listed there (say, the phone number of your own device and also the phone number of your work-related iPhone), is there a method?  I'm leaning toward the answer of 'no', but I'm wanting to double check.

I'm not sure, but if you use the same Apple ID for both iphones and register both with messages, then you may be able to go to device one Settings>Messages>Send&Receive and select device twos number as well.
I thought about that. For some reason, I think that I've heard it doesn't work. Sadly, however, I don't have two iPhones with which to test it.

  • How do I get iMessage on my Mac and iPad Mini to send from my phone number instead of email?

How do I get iMessage on my Mac and iPad Mini to send from my phone number instead of email? I've signed out and signed backed in on all devices but it still doesn't work. Phone number shows up on my iPhone only. Apple support article does not help, the screen don't even match mine.

    Hi believer924,
Happy Holidays!  What version of Mac OS are you working with?  The article below will explain how to confirm your phone number is linked to your Apple ID for iMessage.  On your Mac, you should be able to remove the checkmark in front of your email address in the "You can be reached by iMessage at" and "Start New Conversations from" sections of iMessage settings.
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201349
Your iPhone telephone number is linked to your Apple ID when you sign in to FaceTime or iMessage. This allows you to use your iPhone number with FaceTime and iMessage on other iOS devices.
This feature isn't available on iPod touch (3rd generation) and iPad (1st generation).
This feature is available with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later.
On OS X, find out which addresses are enabled:
In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences > Accounts. Select iMessage in the left column. Your contact preferences should appear under "You can be reached for messages at:."
    OS X:
Phone number missing on OS X
If your phone number isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Update to the latest version of OS X on your Mac.
Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
Sign out of your Apple ID at these locations on your Mac:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Open FaceTime and Messages, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.
If your phone number still isn't listed on your Mac, follow these steps:
Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Sign out of your Apple ID on your Mac at the following locations:
Messages > Preferences > Accounts tab. Click iMessage in the left column, then click Sign Out.
FaceTime > Preferences. Select your Apple ID, then click Sign Out.
Close FaceTime and Messages on your Mac.
Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and also in Settings > FaceTime.
Open FaceTime and iMessage, then sign in to your Apple ID in Preferences.

  • How do I change my incoming calls to view caller's phone number instead of name?  This is for numbers not stored in my contacts (i.e. Unknown)

How do I change my incoming call view to see the "phone number" instead of seeing "Unknown" for contacts who are not stored in my phone?  Whenever a call comes in it says unknow instead on the phone number that is calling.

You need to set up the accounts in System Preferences/Accounts, then activate Fast User Switching.
That way you can quickly log in to your own account - then back to his.
You should obviously have different passwords.
