There is no such thing in the world as absolute freedom. That's anarchy. All civilized societies have rules to govern our actions. Like it or not, a current rule is that no company based in the U.S. is allowed to sell any type of technology to Iran.
Here is a text version of the U.S. Government's sanction. Note this particular paragraph:
• EXPORTS TO IRAN - In general, unless licensed by OFAC, goods, technology, or
services may not be exported, reexported, sold or supplied, directly or
indirectly, from the United States or by a U.S. person, wherever located, to

The U.S. can't do anything about you buying an Android if you want one. The maker of that product is located in Taiwan.

Last night I was syncing my iPhone. After syncing I noticed that many of my Apps had been updated!
I have several apps on my iPhone that I did not wish to update, and in typical Apple fashion is very difficult to go back to previous versions.
How can I prevent Apple from updating apps without my permission?The only way to update apps is for the user to initiate an update. Are you syncing to iCloud? At a Mac/PC via USB or wifi? If by USB, you need to go to the update tab and choose individual apps or all those that need updating. So please tell us which method of syncing you are using. Maybe there is a setting that I'm not aware of that updates automatically when syncing.
For security reasons I do not use iCloud. I am syncing with a USB cable.
I tried to uncheck all of my apps. I received a warning that any/many apps that were not checked would be deleted.
I synced using iTunes. I didn't know there was any other way.
I am using a Mac with 10.6.8 (was using 10.7.2 but switched back.) -

Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:

Why does Apple keep breaking the podcast app?
Here are my issues, maybe you can help... And yes "breaking" and "nightmare" are accurate descriptions of this update...
1. Syncing is now impossible without WiFi or a Cellular connection. I've tried your guide in the other thread, but it didn't help.
When I sync podcasts with iTunes, they DO NOT SHOW UP in the app unless I connect my iPhone 5S to WiFi or Cellular. As soon as I connect it to something, new episodes that I manually synced finally show up and can be played.
2. Arranging the podcasts in any order is now pointless. Any sort of wireless connection will reset my order to a randomized one. It's not even "podcasts with the newest episodes on top", it's just random.
3. Apple doesn't seem to allow any other podcast app to use the manual sync in iTunes. Am I wrong about that? I looked at countless paid apps and they all have their own cloud or system to only deliver episodes wirelessly...
4. And that constant prompt about Cellular data access could drive anyone insane!

This does not answer you question as to "why does apple", because for some reason Apple will treat us like children and try to do everything for you. An unrelated example would be trying to change the IP address of an Airport Extreme Base Station. You cannot. It will always grab the first IP in your subnet whether you like it or not. OK I digress. What I can say is that iTunes, in it's infinite wisdom, will look at your display and decide whether it will playback a HD movie (minimum 1280x800). If not, based upon display settings, it will refuse you the HD download. The "why" I cannot answer other than if you buy the HD movie on any other device like your iPhone 4 or iPad, you cannot share it from your library. So, maybe they get to sell more copies of the movie? That's my best guess. I've been an Apple guy since I first bought my Apple IIe. But honestly, I fume at them for being entirely non-responsive to their customers. Another example is the loss of the scroll arrows starting in OS Lion. Despite thousands and maybe millions of customer complaints, they refuse to listen. (Wow, I feel so much better...)

Does Apple specifically not want those not alligned with pre-digital publishing to be able to sell books on iTunes? Perhaps there is something I'm missing here.Fabini, by the fact that I've uploaded and sold dozens of eBooks on Amazon and B&N without ISBN numbers. They both don't require them for eBooks.
As per Amazon: “An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is not required to publish content with Kindle Direct Publishing. Once your content is published on the KDP web site, Amazon.com will assign it a 10-digit ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), which is unique to the eBook, and is an identification number for the Kindle Book on Amazon.com. If you already have an ISBN for your eBook, you’ll be able to enter it during the publishing process. Do *not* use an ISBN for the print book edition.”
As per barnesandnoble.com's PubIt!: “You do NOT need an ISBN to sell your eBook through PubIt!. If you don’t have an ISBN, just tell us that you don’t have one by answering No when prompted. In that case, Barnes & Noble will assign an internal 13-digit identifier to your title for you when you submit the title to go on sale.”
Apple is the only of the "big three" eBook distributers that requires an ISBN and that is a bad call and reduces that "democratic" power of eBook publishing. I hope they change the policy soon. Anyone know who the best person to email about this issue would be? -

The iTunes Store does allow purchases via PayPal, but only in the US. If you're in another country, PayPal is not available as a payment method.

Why does apple allow apps in the App Store hijack your Internet when certain websites? Why doesn't apple remove their products from the App Store?.
Apple saw it as their responsibility since the redirection took me to the App Store. They assisted me in stopping the redirection which is occurring on many peoples iPhones. It's a have java script problem that adking is using to get you to buy their games. The websites work normal and then all of the sudden the website is taken over by adking.com. You can no longer use the website as it immediately takes you to the App Store without ever showing a popup to cancel the redirection. They were very helpful fixing the problem should others experiencing this specifically with adking.com.
No need to get defensive. I'm not the only one experiencing the problem Apple said. -

If you know so little about the topic why even respond? Just to take sides? How do you even know your on the right side? Because you bought an iDevice and must obey your master?
Firstly 63% of video on the web is not HTML5. There is no such thing as HTML5 video.
HTML has a new tag called <video></video>. This tag allows the playback of videos converted to a specific codec. In safari it is h.264, in chrome it is VP8, in firefox it is OGG.
Each browser can only handle their codec, so a video that runs in the enw <video> tag in safari will not run in chrome or firefox unless another video is also present that has been converted to the correct format.
Adobe Flash can play all of them, or any one of them in any browser. Or you can just use .flv and have only one video that plays everywhere.
As such Adobe Flash plays back h.264 video, and has been doing so way before anyone heard of HTML5. Most hardware today has built in support for this codec as well, making it the best performig codec to be used for video.
With or without HTML5, h.264 is and has been becoming the "standard" codec for all video.
So to say 63% of video is HTML5 is a half truth. If you only cinsider safari then yes, 63% of the videos that flash plays can also be played in safari. However that same 63% can not be seen by anyone else as they require a different codec.
This says that h.264 is the dominant codec, because 63% of all video uses it. However you still need to support the other 37% of video which is not h.264, and you still need to support the other 63% of video for those who dont use safari.
The best option to bring all this together is Flash. It's the one stop shop for all video across all screens.
And Flash out performs HTML5 players 10 to 1 on every product on the planet except Apples.... where it somehow becomes a huge resource hog.... but then that may have something to do with Apple not wanting any media consumption to come from anywhere than their pocket. -

If you have an iPhone/iPad it may be possibel to 'Airplay' from teh Amazon Prime app on the device - no Amazon Prime in UK so I can't confirm it works. Check reviews of the app in iTunes. Airplay is not something I like much as you have to have another device to work with the AppleTV.
As to why there is no native support for Amazon Prime on the AppleTV itself, we could ask the same for any number of services, but:
1 - Apple/Amazon are competitors to some extent so they may not want to
2 - It may simply not feature in Apple's plans for the device
3 - Rights owners may not allow Apple/Aamzon to collaborate
.....and dozens more possible reasons I suspect, none of which really make sense to you an I as a consumer... -
I open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Principal".
I also add two more custom fields in the Email area.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Principal, etc. are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 200 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing? Does anyone have suggestions on getting around this?While most likely not of interest to you, Spotlight can also tell you where the files it finds are located
Hover the mouse pointer over the name, and press Command-Option and the path to the file will be displayed.
As for opening a terminal session in the directory where a file is located, there is Applescripts that do just that as well as specific features in Lion/Mountain Lion terminal:
