Why "exp" is invalid in SQL*Plus (Oracle 9i)

When I run "exp ... " in SQL*Plus(Oracle 9i),why did it say "Unknown Command 'exp'..."??

exp is not a SQL or SQL*Plus command. It is an application that can be invoked at the command line of your operating system.

  • SQL Plus / Oracle - Username and Password Troubles

    Hello all
    I have just download Oracle Database 10g Express Edition for Linux.
    When i use the command 'connect' with SQL Plus i am required to enter a username ans password.
    What is the default username and password, or where can i find it?
    Many thanks

    1. If you installed the express edition, there is another step. Go to your GUI menu->Oracle->Documentation. Those names are not exactly right, but you should be able to figure them out from that
    2. You are missing a post install step which the install documentation will tell you from step 1. If it is a regular Linux, you drop to a terminal and type something like "database configure". Look at the install documentation, it will tell you.
    3. Do you have Apache running? You need a web server for the Oracle web interface to work
    4. The error message you got means exactly what it says. That being said, you can also get this error message when the database is running. If you do, it is because you forgot to include a connection on you command:
    connect sys/manager@xe
    OR
    connect sys/manager@localhost:1521Since you don't know the passwords, I assumed you did not run the configure step above since it asks for the password when you run it.

  • SQL*Plus/iSQL*Plus login as DBA

    I just installed 10g Enterprise on a Windows platform and am a bit confused to why I cannot log into SQL*Plus/iSQL as a DBA. I can login as one of the user accounts then use 'connect' to login as dba in SQL*Plus or at the Windows command prompt. I cannot do this, however, in iSQL*Plus. One of the threads on this forum pointed me to using JAZN after installing OC4J. I am in the process of doing this, but I need to understand something apparently fundamental: why should I have to perform another install when the Universal Installer installed iSQL and all the features that came with it? Didn't the 10g download give me the tools necessary to administer its application's accounts? The OC4J download page states that this tool should not be used to replace an existing 10g installation.
    Moreover, why iSQL knows about the 'users' authorization level, but not 'system?' I can see the users and groups in the Enterprise Manager, but no features to set WebDBA users as iSQL*Plus requests.
    Your comments would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
    in order to use iSQL*Plus as DBA, you have to perform additional configuration. See
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ch2.htm#BCEIHEJF
    By the way: Get used to a different tool like SQL*Plus linemode or SQL Developer, because iSQL*Plus disappears in future versions.
    Kind regards
    Uwe

  • Enterprise manager & sql* plus login failed

    hi
    this is the problem i encountered yesterday:
    there are server_3 and rs_16 machines which are in D1 domain and server_1 in W1 workgroup. server_3 and rs_16 has no oracle software whatsoever and on server_1 8i database exists. other machines with 8i clients, all in D1 domain, succesfully connect to server_1.
    i installed 10g database on server_3 machine; after installation i created a database db1. after the database was created, i tried to start enterprise manager (EM) and it failed (the database is not mounted ....), and i found out that tns listener wasn't created during the installation. so i created tns listener and started EM again and browser showed the proper page (username and login). so i entered sys as username, pswrd (created during the installation) and connect as sysdba. when i clicked on login button, the page refreshed but nothing happened, the same page (login) was still opened. i tried to connect from rs_16 and the same thing happened. this happened using internet explorer for opening EM. i tried to login as system, sysman but all in vain.
    then i installed 10g on rs_16, created db2 database and found out that tnsnames.ora file was missing. created db3 as well, and all went ok. started EM, tried to login and the same thing happened as on server_3, browser just refreshed the page.
    also have to say that i tried to connect to databases using sql* plus and login also failed.
    also tried using administration assistent for windows and tried to connect to db3. when i tried to connect as sys acount (database authentication) login failed, but when i used os authentication i succeeded.
    then i tried to start EM from another machine rs_13 (D1 domain) using internet explorer and i succeeded, there was no problem at all. after all, i installed mozilla firefox (1.0.6) on rs_16 and succesfully started EM for any database i wanted. but have to mention that i still can't connect to any db using sql* plus.
    rs_13 setup:
    - win 2000 + sp4
    - ie 6.0.2600.0000IC
    and rs_16:
    - win xp + sp2
    - ie 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2
    server_3:
    - windows server 2003
    on every machine i was logged in as top administrator so i had any possible permission.
    could anybody answer these questions:
    1. why tnsnames.ora wasn't created?
    2. why tns listener wasn't created?
    3. why couldn't i start EM using ie on server_3 and rs_16 and could on rs_13?
    4. why did login fail using sql* plus and why can't i still connect to any db using sql* plus? is it a problem of assigning some privileges or something else?
    5. why did login fail using database authentication while succeeded using windows authentication in administration assistent for windows? what should i do to make it succeed? is this all problem due to ie browser, win security or oracle security?
    6. why microsoft is giving me a hard time with their security?
    thanks for help in advance
    hope this post will help someone else as well !!

    2. why tns listener wasn't created?I think you cancel Network Configuration Assistan which would create tnsnames.ora and listener. I hope others help you with the other questions I have plenty of work

  • Within SQL*Plus, get error code of host command

    Hello everyone,
    I am currently writing an SQL*Plus (Oracle 10g) that has a big logic and somewhere in the middle, I have to call a host command, which is an C++ function.
    I call it using
    SQL> HOST cd
    SQL> HOST cd bins
    SQL> HOST ./my_procedureBut, I need to get the return code of my procedure to see if it finished correctly?
    I checked [the manual|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ch4.htm#sthref883] but they don't say anything about return codes.
    When I try:
    SQL> host echo $?
    0It always returns 0, even if I SIGTERM or SIGKILL the child process. Anyone has an idea on how is it possible to retrieve the return code?
    Thanks

    Hello guys and thanks for your answers.
    Let me tell you a little more about my problem... I have a 3 steps process. The first step is done in the database. It updates a few tables. Then, when that step successfully ends, I need to start a second step. That second step is done on the server where I have my SQL Plus session. Because I actually have 2 different machines. The first one is where the database is running and the second one where I have SQL Plus (Oracle client 10g) and the program that I have to start in this second step. Then, once this process is finished and his return code is 0, then I have to execute the third step in the database.
    Basically, I wanted to have something like:
    VARIABLE returnCode
    BEGIN
    :returnCode := some_package.do_step_1;
    -- do whatever I want with returnCode.
    EXCEPTION WHEN ...
    END;
    HOST execute_external_program
    BEGIN
    IF external_job_succeed THEN
    some_package.do_step_3
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION...
    END;
    /I wanted to use the Oracle Scheduler to create an EXTERNAL JOB. The problem is that the external program is not deployed on the same machine as the database.I know that on 11g, we have external remote jobs. But I'm on 10g and I have no agent on the server where the external program is. So, what are my options? SQL*Plus and the host command... Or I can also write a bash script to do that... Or any hight level programming language...
    Any other idea?
    Thanks again guys,move functionality of second step into PL/SQL procedure resident inside DB.

  • SQL*Plus: Comment appears in Default-Column

    Please look at this commands, executed in SQL*Plus (Oracle 10g):
    create table t1 (
    c1 number,
    c2 number default 0 -- comment in sqlplus
    select column_name,data_default from all_tab_columns where table_name='T1';
    COLUMN_NAME                    DATA_DEFAULT
    C1
    C2                             0 -- comment in sqlplus
    The comment is stored in the data dictionary! ?:|
    insert into t1 (c1) values (0);
    commit;
    But the default clause works:
    select c1,c2 from t1;
    C1        C2
    +0 0+
    Is it a bug or is it a feature???

  • Procedure runs in SQL Plus, but not when called from my Oracle Form

    Hi. I have this code to send an email alert as the user updates a record on my base table from my Oracle Form. I use dbms_scheduler so that it's submitted as a background job and so the email processing does not delay my Oracle Form from saving quickly. If I submit this code in SQL Plus it executes and I receive the email as expected.
    begin
    dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationConflict_Notify (62547, ''01-SEP-11'', ''02-SEP-11''); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;However if I submit this code from a Post-Update trigger in my form the code runs without error, but my email is never received (the same parameter values would be passed to this trigger):
    begin
    -- Submit the email notification in the background so as to not slow down the screen while saving.
    dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationConflict_Notify (:dropper_vacations.dropper_id, :dropper_vacations.begin_dt, :dropper_vacations.end_dt); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;     Any ideas why this might be happening?

    Wow, so I changed the two procedures so that I'm only passing in one number parameter and one char parameter...
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify (p_dropper_id number, p_other char) IS
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TTMS.dropperVacationEmailURL_new (in_dropper_id number, in_other char) ISIf I execute it like this it works and I get the email:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, 99999);or like this it works and I get the email:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, '99999');But if I execute it like this (I get no errors) the email is not sent:
    TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify(62547, 'ababa');So this problem really has nothing to do with date formats. It seems to have to do with whether parameter two has characters in it!!! What the heck.
    Any ideas on this?
    Here is the procedure I'm calling:
    CREATE OR REPLACE procedure TTMS.job_vacationconflict_notify (p_dropper_id number, p_other char) IS
    begin
      dbms_scheduler.create_job (
         job_name            => 'IMMEDIATE_JOB',
         job_type            => 'PLSQL_BLOCK',
         job_action          => 'begin TTMS.dropperVacationemailurl_new ('||p_dropper_id||','||p_other||'); end;',
         number_of_arguments => 0,
         start_date          => sysdate +1/24/59, -- sysdate + 1 minute
         enabled             => TRUE,
         auto_drop           => TRUE,
         comments            => 'Immediate, one-time run');
    end;
    /And the above procedure is calling this procedure which should be sending the email alert:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TTMS.dropperVacationEmailURL_new (in_dropper_id number, in_other char) IS
          myguid varchar2(15):=null;

  • Problem running SQL PLUS in Oracle 8i and 9i on Windows XP

    I've tried installing both Oracle 8.17 Personal Edition and also 9i in Windows XP Professional (each on a different occassion). I have run into the same problem each time. The installation itself goes fine in both cases, but when I run SQL PLUS, the Log On screen appears for 1-2 seconds then whole thing just closes automatically, so I can't ever access that application which is the only thing I need to work with. Any ideas on what's going wrong? Thanks.

    Well a few things. Did you try TNSPING to see if the listener is up? If it's ok, can you connect with FREE toad? Download Oracle OEM and install that (the SQL net and sql plus portions). If you can't get tnsping to work, sqlplus isn't going too either. I don't know why the sqplus is actually shutting down, but I'm guessing the TNS NAMES entry isnt there (in the tnsnames.ora file). If the tnsnames entry is there then tnsping should work. Get tnsping to work first.

  • "ORA-1722 Invalid number" error while runing a SQL script in SQL*Plus

    Hello,
    I created a SQL script that is intended to populate tables with
    baseline data. When I run the script in the SQL*Plus program
    that comes with the Oracle 8.1.6 (client), I receive an "ORA-
    1722 Invalid number".
    The error always occurs when SQL*Plus tries to execute the
    following SQL statement:
    insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
    ('cm',modules_seq.currval,1046682,'y');
    The datatypes for the columns on the components table are as
    follows:
    db_ind varchar2(2);
    module_id number;
    ext_compid number;
    active varchar2(1);
    It seems that for some reason Oracle is having trouble
    recognizing 1046682 as a number.
    I also tried the following INSERT statements to see if that
    would work:
    insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
    ('cm',modules_seq.currval,to_number('1046682'),'y');
    insert into components(db_ind,module_id,ext_compid,active) values
    ('cm',modules_seq.currval,'1046682','y');
    but I still receive the same error message
    Is there some NLS setting(s) I need to modify so that Oracle
    does not give me this error? Does anyone know the answer to
    this problem?
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Oscar
    (NOTE: I also receive this same error when trying run the
    script in SQL Navigator and Toad programs)

  • Is the SQL * Plus Worksheet included in the Oracle 10g Express Edition?

    Hello All,
    I need to install Oracle 10g for a SQL class that I will be taking this year. I will be installing it in my laptop (Pentium 4, 1GB RAM). I was told by the Professor that I needed to have the SQL*Plus Worksheet. I would like to know which version of Oracle do I need to install, and If it includes the SQL*Plus Worksheet.
    This is my first time working & installing Oracle, so I would appreciate if anyone could guide me thru this process.
    Thanks a lot,
    Ed

    No, it is not included.
    However, the same functionality, and more, is in Oracle SQL Developer - also available free and download-able from the same area as Oracle Express Edition.
    Ask your prof why he want Worksheet. If it's only for the ability to scroll and correct previous SQL (eg: easier time correcting mistakes), and loading scripts, ask if SQL Developer would be allowed. It's much superior and allows you to use XE, which will not sink your laptop like the EE version will.
