Why is image over flowing content div into footer div?

My content div is set at 975px wide padding 20px.  I insert a image that is 700x525.  Content div expands to fit image.  As soon as I set the alignment on the image to left Content div shrinks, image overflowing into footer and text in footer is wrapped around image.  If I set a height for the Content div larger than height of image all is well.  My problem is images on different pages will all be different sizes.
Code:
<div id="content">
    <h1><img src="Oral/OralCavity_Labeled.jpg" alt="Oral Cavity" width="700" height="525" align="left" />Content for  id "content" Goes Here</h1>
  </div>
  <div id="footer">
    <h5>Property of College of the Canyons Biology Department. All rights reserved. <a href="mailto:[email protected]">Contact Us</a>.</h5>
  </div>
  <h5> </h5>
</div>
</body>
Please help, can't proceed with website until this problem is solved.

Try this:
#content {
width: 975px;
background: #FFF;
padding: 20px;
overflow:hidden;

  • Is it possible to keep centered an AP div into another div?

    I have a division block with sizes set in ems containing some
    text at the top and another div at the bottom with a picture in it.
    I want the div with the picture to stay at a certain percentage
    distance from bottom of the containing div block and be centered
    into it when the user increases the text.
    I manage to position the image at the bottom by styling its
    div as AP and the containing div as relatively positioned but I
    can't figure out how to keep the positioning at the center when the
    user increases the text.
    Is this possible?

    Personally, I think the whole approach is big trouble.

  • Content runs into footer

    http://hbr2.pooledesignstudio.com/index.html
    The content of this page runs into the footer. This is the only page it does it on.
    Do you have any suggestions? I'm at a loss and it's the middle of the night.
    Thank you for your help.
    Kathleen

    Change this -
    .services ul li {
    float: left;
    padding-left: 25px;
    list-style: disc inside;
    height: auto;
    width: 920px;
    to this -
    .services ul li {
    padding-left: 25px;
    list-style: disc inside;
    width: 920px;
    and see what happens.

  • Over flow issue while printing footer in last page in PDF forms

    Hi,
    Could any one let me how to display footer in last page only at end of page reserving 5cm of space.
    I have designed my form with two pages:First Page and Next Page in Master Page
    Body Page contains table details and some texts after the table lines.
    First and Next Pages has footer(5cm) at the bottom.
    If Page <> Last Page,footer is not displayed.
    If page = Last Page, footer should be displayed at the very end of the page
    I have a table with multiple line items. If the line items end in First page the footer should be displayed at the bottom of the page. If the line items flow to the next pages footer should be displayed in the last page only. Next pages should be using the footer space at the end of each page if it is not the last page.
    If the positions are wrong can anyone suggest the position of the footer space and how to stop overflow of the line items onto the footer

    You have to place the footers in 2 main windows.
    write script to hide the footer if the current page is not last page. Use below script to find the total number of pages and current page in layout:ready event.
    Var no_of_pages   =   $layout.pageCount (  )
    Var curpage = $layout.page  (  ref  (  $  )  )

  • Scrolling main content in an AP Div disappearing behind other AP Divs...?

    Newbie here, using CS3. No CSS power user (yet!)--general concepts, yes, but not much practice. Meanwhile two recent CS3 classes, several books, and a concerted search through online forums have failed to point me toward a fix for this prob. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Prob statement: In design view the core content of my pages disappears behind my footer and a secondary box, both AP Divs, so that I cannot see or edit anything beyond the bottom edge of the core-content AP Div. Overflow for that AP Div is set to scroll. The "obscured" content shows up only as an outlined shape extending past the footer etc. (and I can see some of the obscured text "through" the footer). Down arrow doesn't get me there: it just scoots down the outlined-but-obscured section. Doubleclicking highlights everything that's obscured so that I can see the relative shapes of the paragraphs, but doesn't expose the content. This seemed to start the first time I set the content div to scroll any overflow. I've changed it back/forth since; no joy.
    Rendered in IE or Firefox, all the pages with all their varying content lengths look fine. Scrollbar works great. It's just that in order to edit or compose further, I have to copy everything into Notepad or something, work there, and then paste it back into DW. Definitely non-optimum, though: can't format or add hyperlinks to the content.
    I'm using AP Divs, with scroll on in the "content" AP Div, because I couldn't figure out how to create a template where the footer would slide down the page in response to varying amounts of content. Started out with a table to handle all this, but an instructor recommended AP Divs so I went that way. I'd like to resolve this, rather than just go back to using tables while leaving this AP Div oddness a mystery.
    The footer is full of a Spry tabbed panels giving my legal/green/design statements and other small bits of info. The secondary box is an AP Div called "quotations" and is for friendly little bits of cute/clever nonsense at the bottom of each page.
    Tried a number of different settings so far and by now I've probably truly messed things up. Can anyone suggest a fix?
    The code for the template file seems long, so my apologies. However, the content type isn't allowed for attachments so I've pasted it in below.
    Much appreciation!

    I hadn't looked at the code at all. I was relying on the Dreamweaver GUI to correctly guide me to a desired outcome.
    I think that this is not a desirable approach to Dreamweaver, which will write perfect HTML if you let it, but it's too easy to click buttons and apply wizards without regard for the markup consequences, thereby producing a veritable pig's ear of a page.  If you are going to use DW professionally, you will have to become comfortable with code.  That doesn't mean you will have to spend 100% of your time in Code view, but you will definitely need to watch the code as it is formulated.
    I'm not starting from an engineering background.
    Neither did I.  But I did start with a sincere desire to become proficient, and to learn the technology.
    Murray, I get the idea of redoing my template without AP Divs, and will get into that. I don't know what "image swaps and links" mean, though. Would you mind teaching this newbie on this point?
    Not at all.  When you select the "NavBar" feature, you are placing elements and code on your page that were designed in the dark ages of HTML (frames).  Some of the features in the NavBar will only work in a framed page (the down image and the over while down).  The code is antique, invalid, and just wrong to be included.  My suggestion was to forego this and just place your button images on the page (in whatever container you need to use), and apply links to them so that they link to the desired pages.  Then apply swap image behaviors to them to create your rollover effects, one for each button.  The result will be modern code, that has none of the legacy stuff of the navbar, and that will work fine for you.  As you become more familiar with CSS you can investigate even better ways to do such menus (if you want a preview of this, Google "CSS Sprites).  The latter method is usually the only way I do menus anymore.  And even then, I use both text and graphics for accessability and SEO purposes.
    I will say that I like your attitude.  A determination to learn and improve is a winning approach.

  • Why can't I center contents in this div?

    I'm trying to center an image and an unordered list inside a div, but the contents are moving down past the boundaries of the div. I added a blue border to the div so you can see what it's doing. Can anyone diagnose this? I've monkeyed with it so much that I've probably done more harm than good.
    http://www.keithpurtell.com/kthings/bab/index03.htm

    I don't remember what your errors were.  Why don't you compare my code to yours?
    If you don't already have it, I urge you to download the Web Developer Toolbar for Firefox.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/
    Among many of its features is the ability to edit CSS code from the browser to see the effect it has on your page.   This is a must have tool kit for any web designer (novice to pro).

  • Why is elements better at photomerge than CC- CC does not appear to automatically fill image based on content but elements does when merging a panorama. Also the stitching is visable in CC but almost perfect in elements- why?

    I took 6 panorama shots of a scene and used CC to Photomerge them as one. Couldn't see where to automatic blend the edges and there was 'stitch' lines when the images were merged. So i did the same in Elements 11 and it was perfect. Am i doing something wrong in CC or perhaps not doing something at all?
    Any help, please?
    Dave

    Hi - Thanks for taking the time to reply and i appreciate the remarks- if a little harsh- we all have to start somewhere and i am fully aware of the limitations of Elements which is why i decided to add CC to my software. I can only say that if an inferior quality software from Adobe does the job well then CC must also be suited to doing the same which is why i can only think, from your comments, that i have not done something simple- however- following tutorials to get to the end result should have sufficed- it didn't so perhaps i will consider posting the difference between the two applications- and, perhaps suffer a few more 'harsh' comments. The learning curve is quite steep and i am a visual learner, but i'm also not totally incompetent:)
    Kind Regards

    First a clarification: you are not addressing Adobe here in these user forums.  You are requesting help from volunteers users just like you who give their time free of charge. No one has any obligation to answer your questions.
    I'll give it my best shot anyway.
    Few folks in this forum are really familiar with Elements, for which there's a dedicated, totally separate forum.
    Different engineering teams, also.
    From this perspective, it will be difficult to give you a direct answer to your "why?" question.
    Personally, I blend very large panorama shots in Photoshop proper since I can't even remember when without any issues whatsoever, up to and including in Photoshop CS6 13.0.6.
    Without being at your computer and without looking at your images, I couldn't even begin to speculate what you are doing wrong in Photoshop, which I suspect you are.  The least you could show is post examples from your panoramas that have gone wrong.
    I can tell you that panorama stitching requires significant overlap between the individual shots, besides common-sdense techniques like a very solid tripod and precision heads.
    The only version of Elements I have ever used for any significant time was Elements 6 for Windows, which I bought in 2008 to use on a PC (I've been an avid Mac user for 30 years).  I found Elements so limited and so bad that I successfully demanded a refund from Adobe.  IU mention this only to emphasize that I can truly only address your question from a Photoshop (proper) and Mac user point of view.  I couldn't care less about Elements, but if you have comparison examples of panoramas processed in both applications, by all means post those two.
    Generally speaking Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve, while Photoshop has many hand-holding features for amateurs and beginners.
    Perhaps the bottom line is that you should stick with Elements if you personally manage to get better results there.

  • Promlem with loading QT content in Safari into a div via innerHTML

    Hello,
    I have created a website where I'm loading QT content into a div via Javascript by using InnerHTML. I'm generating the Object/embed with javascript. Take a look at the following javascript function:
    //This function generates object/embed tags on the page
    //each time a movie thumbnail is clicked
    function showMovie(folder, previewUrl, movieUrl)
    var content = new getObj('content');
    var movieObj = new getObj('contentMovie');
    if(BrowserDetect.browser == 'Safari')
    //I added this bit becaus Safari kept on playing the previous movie
    movieObj.obj.Stop();
    content.obj.innerHTML = '';
    var urlStart = "[(base_url)]" + folder + "/";
    var qtUrl = movieUrl.split('../')[1];
    qtUrl = urlStart + qtUrl;
    var myQTObject = new QTObject(previewUrl.split('.')[0] + ".gif", "contentMovie", "489", "280");
    myQTObject.altTxt = "Upgrade your Quicktime Player!";
    myQTObject.addParam("name", "contentMovie");
    myQTObject.addParam("href", movieUrl);
    myQTObject.addParam("controller", "true");
    myQTObject.addParam("scale", "tofit");
    myQTObject.addParam("target", "myself");
    myQTObject.addParam("autoplay", "true");
    myQTObject.addParam("saveembedtags", "true");
    myQTObject.addParam("enablejavasript", "true");
    content.obj.innerHTML = myQTObject.getHTML();
    As you can see I'm specifically checking to see if the browser is Safari, then I'm stopping the movie via javascript. It seems that Safari keeps all the movies in memory and somhow loads them on top of each other instead of disposing of them when the innerHTML is set to an empty string... this took care of one problem which was preventing Safari from playing multiple movies at once(somehow stacking on top of each other). However, the fastStart movies keep loading in the background so you could argue that Safari is leaking memory and loading movies in the background that should not be there.
    Does anyone have a clue on how to fix this? Wouldn't you define this as a bug? I took a look at the QT javascript API and it seems to me that there is no command that tells the movie to stop loading or howto dispose of it. Maybe I can swap the movie URL via javascript if the browser is Safari, but I'd like to know if there is another way since I'm using a poster movie and I imagine it will complicate things. Anyway, you can test for your self on www.koggull.com/index.php, if you don't understand the problem. I suggest that you keep Activity Monitor open, then you can see how Safari eats up memory when browsing my website. All help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why do image links in my HTML signature get turned into inline images?

    I have written a program to create HTML signature files for email programs at my workplace.
    The signature file uses URLs to images hosted on a server. This appears to work fine, but I've noticed that when I send an email from Icedove (Thunderbird rebadged for Debian), the image links automatically get turned into attachments. These are then visible as base64-encoded MIME blocks in the email source.
    I cannot find any option for altering this behaviour anywhere in the application, even in the Config Editor.
    Can anybody advise me how to change this behaviour? Thanks in advance.
    I am running Icedove v.17 for Debian 64 bit.

    By default Thunderbird attaches all images, even if the &lt;img&gt; element points to a remote resource. Most e-mail clients block remote content these days unless the user authorizes it (see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/991448 this thread] for an in-depth discussion) due to potential privacy/tracking issues. Thus, the image your are adding as a remote resource may not display the first time the recipient opens the message.
    If you want to change your code respectively anyway, have a look at [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_complex_mails_with_inline_images#Remote_images this article]. You'll have to add an attribute &lt;img '''moz-do-not-send="true"'''&gt; to the element which will Tell Thunderbird to ''not'' download the image from the server and embedding it into the message on sending.

  • Trying to put a background image into my div but it closes out. What gives?

    I keep trying to put a background image into my div but it always closes out when I try to pick an image from the browse button and then I get the spinning colored wheel of death. I've tried it on the CSS Designer Properties section and in the Properties Box on the bottom of the layout.

    Could be a memory issue. Try closing Dreamweaver and re-start your computer.

  • Why do Images sometimes flip when dragging from bridge into indesign?

    Why do Images sometimes flip orientation when dragging from bridge into indesign? Using a mac.

    That's what I thought was happening with my coworker as well, but she is simply just dragging and placing the image into an empty area. The file she is working with is one that was converted from quark with an add on, would that have any relation to why this is happening?

  • Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

    Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

    No you will not have to set up the iPad all over again. Resetting the iPad is like rebooting your computer. You will lose no apps, data, settings .... Nothing at all. I like to use the expression that it's like "clearing out the cobwebs" on the iPad's memory.
    The reason I am suggesting this is that there are some other sort of bizarre issues that occur in the mail app and the reset seems to clear up those issues. So I think it is worth a try.
    On the other hand, if you have restored the iPad to factory settings, I don't know that it will help. If nothing else works, try going to your web mail using a browser and see if you can't deal with this in there.

  • I'm still stuck cannot getthe content into the divs!

    OK, I got the third column in place, but still cannot get the content table I need to put in to stay where it belongs or even to show up:

  • How to get my Image to outline correctly in an assigned DIV

    The last question I posted here regarded placing DIVs within parent DIVs and getting them to outline correctly. This question is actually strinkingly similar, and hence my hesitance to post it. I feel I'm looking over something extremely obvious, but I just can't seem to pinpoint my thoughts to it. My problem has to with the 'Image' block in the picture posted below:
    Click here for image
    Whenever I place an image/background image into that DIV, it jumps into the center and for some reason sees that place as its starting position. Using absolute positioning and negative values for left and top I got it into position, but I figured that this was just a temporary solution to a problem currently unsolved. Like ducktaping a leaking valve, you want to find a good solution ASAP.
    I have left the leftcolumn edited so an image can be given of what I want to reach. However, the center column will also include text on the right of the image (quite possibly alligning around it should the image be smaller in height than the border). I want the image to outline below the upper title (and seperate DIV) 'Corporate News'.
    Another thing that seems to happen is that it completely takes out the bar which is put in as a seperate DIV, presumabely because it just knocks it down because the two don't overlay for some reason (despite the bar having a higher z-index and being absolutely positioned with 0px from the bottom).
    Source coding for the center column:
    <div id="centercolumn">
      <div id="indextitles">
        <div id="centercolumntitle">CORPORATE NEWS</div>
      </div>
      <div id="centercontent"><img src="images/Index page/News/newsmain.png" width="843" height="411" /> </div>
      <div id="centercbar">
        <div id="cbartext"> <a href="news.html">
          <div id="centercbartext">Old makes way for the new</div>
          </a> </div>
      </div>
    CSS coding for the parent DIV:
    #centercolumn {
    background-image: url(../images/Columns/centercolumn.png);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    height: 349px;
    width: 672px;
    margin-top: 10px;
    margin-bottom: 10px;
    position: relative;
    float: left;
    overflow: hidden;
    CSS coding for the indextitle (Corporate News) [This CSS coding applies to all three black colored titles in the image]:
    #indextitles {
    position: absolute;
    z-index: 2;
    left: 10px;
    top: 5px;
    CSS coding for the bar which is meant to be resting on the lower border of the image (similar to the ones of the other columns):
    #centercbar {
    background-image: url(../images/Column%20bars/centercbar.png);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    height: 49px;
    width: 672px;
    position: absolute;
    z-index: 5;
    bottom: 0px;
    No formatting has been applied yet to the actual image. I'm just trying to understand why it won't jump into place, despite all of my efforts.

    How come you need to use so many <divs>? The less <divs> the better and easier to work with (see example below) Incidentally the image size in the code that you have supplied is way bigger in dimension than the parent <div> it's inserted into which will distort everything. Copy and paste the code below into Dreamweaver. Position the image <div> 'contentcenter' using margin NOT absolute positoning.
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
