Why is it so hard for ATT to upgrade my DSL????

I have been in contact with their representatives on here to see if I can get things resolved that way.  I would upgrade to UVerse if it was available here. It is not. Not sure why; there are more rural areas near here that have it, but not in my subdivision. So that is not an option. Everyone at ATT that I talked to said that 6M DSL is available.  Long story short is that right now when I call ATT and ask them what it up, they say that their system says that the upgrade order to 6M was completed and went through successfully (except for one time w/tech support who said his system said it was "rejected", but that might have been at the old # which was ported). However when I log into my account, it still says DSL Lite. And, as far as I know, I am still being billed for DSL Lite. They even sent a postcard via priority mail stating that my updgade order was complete. Obviousely it is not.  I agree that it SHOULD be an easy process for them. At this stage I almost want to tell them to cancel everything that is listed for this address/account # and start over to see if that will work. Either that or I will have to switch to Comcast.

So sorry for your frustrations with getting what should be a simple change in a line of programming code.I wish you well, and hope you get what was communicated to you. PLEASE, keep us informed of your outcome. The ONLY reason they should NOT be able to set you up with the 6 mbps connection speed is if your connection line length is too long to give a signal strong enough to support it. Anything else should be nothing more than changing a switch. I got 6 mbps when my service was connected, and since that is the 'max" legacy dsl speed, that is the best i could have gotten, so would be pointless to try increasing the speed any more. My local county government will not allow u-verse in this area due to monopoly restrictions (comcast has the monopoly) so "upgrading" to u-verse is not an option for the forseeable future. My area may be unique in that our local dsl service is blessed with open ports to spare. (guessing many of the dsl customers migrated to comcast for internet) Still, my written agreement clearly spells out that had I chosen lower speed to start, increasing to a faster connection speed, to the max of 6 mbps would have been a very simple change to make. It would have simply cost more per month. I have had several chats and conversations with various ATT service reps, and any and all issues I had, were resolved coutiesly and professionally.A couple of times, I was given benefit of the doubt and given the credit adjustments, no problem. Obviously, not everyone has a positive experiance with ATT customer service, otherwise, we would not have all the posts we have in reguards to it. But too, most of those get resolved with a lot of patience and a bit of persistance and time. Those of us that use these forums, also have the option of the social media customer care team, and I read post after post where they work seeming miricles quietly and quickly. I have also seen posts from folks who are in the clearly u-verse service areas and for whatever reason, get dsl connections instead of u-verse. Granted, the exception NOT the rule, but point is, even though they are new service connections, they get DSL instead of u-verse. My understaning was, and still is, new service is u-verse, and in legacy dsl areas, the equipment is maintained, but not expanded, or upgraded. And, plans are to eventually phase out the legacy dsl completely. (2020 was the last deadline i've heard.) Also, new service in the dsl areas is only available when/if an open port is available. The rule of thumb is, once u-verse goes into a service area, the legacy dsl goes away, replaced with U-verse.That being said, there are still pleanty of posts from folks in the new u-verse teritories who keep their legacy dsl connections, and as i also mentioned, exceptions are made that folks get new service with dsl rather than u-verse. , in spite of the tone of my post, I like you. You are a fount of information, and always appreciate your insight, and unofficial inside information.  You post regular, and share what you know to the best of your knowledge, and hope you will continue to do so.Often, you give the one bit of info needed to identify the specifics of an issue, and even how to outright get it fixed. To be fair, I would not have considered a connection speed increase to the max as an upgrade, but to be fair, that may in fact be one of the situations ATT considers an upgrade. No hard feelings, I hope. And apologies for any and all negative impressions I made. And to , I hpe they get your speed increase figured out and done.

  • Why is this so hard for BT?

Here is a copy of an email I have sent to the top bloke in BT about theeir terrible home moving procedures:
     Dear Sir,
I’m moving home at short notice on 29th April due to work commitments. This move was only confirmed at 10.00am this morning, 22nd April.
I called BT to arrange for me to have the Infinity line that is already connected to the new property switched back on on the April.
Apparently it is not fibre to the cabinet as usual, but fibre direct into the house.
After being passed through 4 different members of staff I was eventually connected to a lady who promised to call me back. After a couple of hours and no callback I managed to recount her by calling BT again.
She then informed me that the earliest reconnection date was May 22nd, over 4 weeks from today. Apparently an engineer has to visit the house to reconnect. Why? She couldn’t tell me.
Bt take an instant to cease the service, why is it impossible to reinstate within more than 4 weeks?
I presume when the previous owner vacated the house he didn’t take the fibre connection with him. I’m perfectly capable of plugging in a router to a socket which is all the engineer will do. As I understand it the re enabling is done at the exchange.
I would be grateful if you, or one of your exec team could look into this issue which I understand is widespread and expedite a recommissioning in a timely manner.
As a matter of interest, the girl I was speaking top whilst placing the order told me the way to get around this issue was to find a wifi hotspot in the garden! I didn’t realise hotspots were in everyones garden – I can’t connect to my own router in the garden, why on earth she thought I would have random connections in a large gardened detached property is incredible…
I realise everyone wants their internet connection yesterday and all have valid reasons for doing so, but my wife uses the connection for video conferencing with her job, so I guess that’s at least as valid a reason as anyones. Over 4 weeks is pretty much an insult I feel.
I look forward to your solution in the near future.
    Kind regards,
    andygo

  • Why is it so hard for Firefox to keep up with "Snagit" update releases? The problem is in the scrolling capture (that hardly ever works) because FF is never able to keep up with any of their upgrades (or is that vice-verse?)

One of the more predominant features/capabilities of "Snagit''
(screen capture) software is its ability to perform scrolling captures. Unfortunately, with every update release (from Snagit) it takes Firefox at least two updates to capture the code to allow this function... to function!?
Under normal conditions, it is understood that one should logically take this to the software manufacturer to accommodate the browser (Firefox), however, the (always) fix to the problem is in waiting for Firefox to release one of its later updates... it has never been while waiting for Snagit to revise a fix.

You have it backwards, SnagIt needs to be compatible with Firefox.

  • Why is it so hard to get Verizon to offer an alternative phone?

    Hello,
I've been lurking this board for a long time, and my Fascinate has had nothing but problems.
    1. The phone randomly decides to hit the back button on it's own multiple times, resulting in screencaptures.  This has not been fixed for me no matter what apps I use or how many times I reset my phone.  Have you ever been in a college library and tried to put your phone in standby only to hear the camera shutter noise? Everyone thinks you're creepy and that you're taking pictures of strangers. It's an embarassment.
    2. Sometimes when I hit the phone icon it takes me to a black screen. Let me tell you: My cellPHONE will not let me make PHONE calls. This makes the device completely useless.
    3. Sometimes I send texts to about 15 different people to confirm plans for the night, get no response at all. No texts from anybody. I wake up the next morning thinking I did something wrong and ruined relationships until I do a battery pull. Then when it starts back up it SENDS THEM THEN. Then I get a ton of confused friends wondering where I was and why they never heard back from me.
    4. I have 4 different friends with the SAME EXACT ISSUES on this SAME EXACT MODEL of phone.
I am fully updated and I have never rooted this phone.
Why is it so hard for verizon to just send me a refurbished Droid X2 or Incredible 2? It can't cost that much more!
Please, if any verizon employee sees this I would love if you could help me out. The people I've spoken to on the phone only offered to send me another Fascinate. It's NOT what I need. I have been a Verizon customer for a long time and I'm thoroughly disappointed that you can't help me out by kicking me a refurb of a different model.

    Hello ILikeColdPizza!
Sounds like you've gone through a great deal of trouble with your device.  I would like to see if we can get your phone working the way it should.
The manufacturers warranty is a no cost option that replaces the device with the same make and model, considering the device is experiencing an electrical/mechanical defect.  This is what the manufacturers cover under the standard one year warranty.  When your device does not function as intended and is defective, we intern lift this up to the manufacturer to recoup our losses.  This is the reason for the same model exchange policy.  In the meantime, I would like to further troubleshoot your device to ensure we've resolved all the issues you're experiencing.
Have you confirmed your Fascinate is running the most recent software version?  The current version would be i500.EH03, which is Gingerbread.  If not, please update software.  A lot of the issues you are experiencing were resolved in the latest update.  If you are still experiencing issues with your device after updating the software, please let me know so I can go over other options.

  • For a communications company why is it so hard to get a phone number to talk to a real person?

Verizon is a communications company: why is it so hard to get a phone number to talk to a real person? Why when I call to set up a payment plan I get an auto response the sets up my payment date with no option to decline? Why hasn't the FCC shut this company down for breech of contract and lying to its customers?

Breach of contract? You are in breach of contract by not paying for services rendered.
Why should you be late paying an invoice and yet expect Verizon to keep your device on? You are breaching the contract.
#PMT from your device gives you an option for payment arrangements. The system more than likely can only extend the due dates by a certain number of days.
*611 or 1-800-922-0204 and ask to speak to financial services and ask them to extend the date.
Verizon would be out of business if everyone just paid them when they please.
    Good Luck

  • Why is WiFi sync so hard for Apple?

Can someone who works at Apple explain to all the users on these forums WHY WiFi sync is so painfully hard for Apple to implement?
The current implementation is so unreliable I don't even bother to use it infact I go out of my to tell people not to even bother with it because when you expect it to work; For example you leave iTunes running in the evening when you goto bed plug your iOS device into a charger and EXPECT it to just be sync'd ONCE in the 7 hours that I'm sleeping. Forget it you might as well just plugin your cable to your Mac and do it the old fashioned way.
This also applies to AirDrop, I feel as if it's gotten to the point where Apples marketing is leaving it's product in the dust. AirDrop another "wireless" feature that's been touted since 10.7 (Lion) is again unreliable or there are SO many hoops to jump through that it's just quicker to either EMAIL, iMessage or even connect to a shared drive than to bother trying AirDrop. You can even have all of your contacts sync'd with the person your trying to AirDrop and they won't show up in the AirDrop panel.
I am a huge Apple fan my home network is end to end Apple I even have an Airport Extreme that over heats and reboots itself from time to time.
Stop redesigning the iTunes interface, for a few product cycles and get those features that have been in iTunes for ALONG time to JUST WORK.
Remember that old saying "IT JUST WORKS" we need to get back to that. Don't tell me how amazing the design is or what materials it's made of IT "SHOULD" JUST WORK.
If I can ping my iPhone's IP from my Mac my iPhone SHOULD show up in my iTunes device list END OF STORY. If it doesn't it's broken and it NEEDS to be FIXED.

I don't think anything is 'taking' them a long time, they oould release one tomrorow but the price point could be the biggest hurdle. I'm not sure that they can build it the way they want to and keep prices under 3k

  • Why is it so hard to do things right the first time?

My company is no longer providing Blackberry phones to its employees.  So I decided to upgrade my personal phone, change my plan and try to minimize my monthly bill increase.  I went with the S4, share everything with 4GB of data.  I questioned the sales associate, "will this work with Good Messaging service?  I have the feature number if needed."  The associate said, "No it will work fine."  He then asked another associate, "Right, Good Messaging will work with this share everything plan?" and the other associate confirmed.  Walked out with my new phone, plan change and a $10 a month increase.  When I got home I set up the Good Messaging app and work emails were available.  I didn't have a good feeling about the associate having to ask again and before I decommissioned the Blackberry I wanted to triple check the Good Messaging/Enterprise data feature was part of my plan.  I opened up a chat with an online associate and asked the same question...  "Can you please verify the feature...?"  Online associate again confirmed, "Yes, this feature is included in your plan.".  I arrived at work the next day and received an email from the company support team stating that my Good Messaging service had been set up, but that my wireless plan did not appear to have the "feature" included.  The email requested that I call Verizon and ask them to add the feature.  I contacted Verizon immediately, informed them of the situation and conversations with other associates, the phone associate verified that I did not have the feature on my plan.  She then added the feature and noted that this would increase my monthly bill by $15, asked if there was anything else, nope, and asked that I have a great day!
I'm frustrated simply because 3 Verizon employees verified that this feature was included in my plan!  I'm not sure why it is so hard to do things right the first time.

Update:  A couple of weeks ago I called Verizon back again after speaking with my company.  The woman on the phone was very apologetic after hearing the story above.  I then stated that people at my company reconfirmed that the service should be $5 not $15.  She took a minute to look up the feature and said it didn't appear to be available to me for $5, but was fully aware of the feature being available for $5.  She stated that she would credit my account for $10 and find out how to add the service at $5 and contact me when this was done.  Finally, I felt like I got some progress.
A couple of days later I received a phone from a VZW specialist (or some other title, don't recall).  The gentlemen asked about the past issues if I still had any concerns.  I stated the previous person I had spoke with provided me with a $10 credit and was working on adding the feature for $5.  I asked if he could confirm.  He pulled up my account and stated the feature was not available to me for $5.  I read him the announcement from my company regarding the "special plan" they had worked out with Verizon and he stated my account was still showing under a previous company that I had worked for.  He then proceeded to say that this was probably the reason why the $5 feature was not available to me and that I should which my account to my current company.  The next day I tried to switch my account to my current company and I kept getting an error message stating that I needed to contact support.
I finally got around to contacting support today and mentioned that I was trying to switch my account to my current company discount plan.  I told him that I was unsuccessful trying on line.  He pulled up my account and checked if my current company had a discount available.  He couldn't find any discounts.  While he was on the phone I went online and filled out the getdiscounts form.  Got the email to my corp email and read off the discount amounts from the email.  I then tried to make the changes online again and it worked.  He verified the change had taken place and I asked him to confirm that the good messaging service was showing at $5.  Nope it was still showing as $15.  I briefly informed him of the history and asked me to hold.  Came back about 30 seconds later and stated the feature is $15 for my account and there is no $5 feature.
So after 10+ years of loyal service to Verizon, I've almost completely lost all confidence in their ability to service correctly the first time.

  • Why am I being charged for data when connected to wifi AND not using my phone?!

WHY am I being charged for data that I'm not using? At times when I'm asleep AND my phone is connected to wifi?!  This happens at really specific, alternating times like 9:54 pm every day, or 12:01 am, 6:01 am and then 12:01pm and 6:01pm. When I called I was told  "maybe your wifi at home is disconnecting" or "maybe your phone is connecting to atnt or sprint". It's not possible that my phone is disconnecting from wifi every six hours on the dot and, at that exact time, I'm always using data. I find it hard to believe that I live in a HUGE city and my phone magically connects to other networks and I NEVER notice this. Verizon is full of LIARS (and maybe’s) and I'm not convinced that these data charges are a coincidence. I was told to turn off my cellular data to see if the problem resolves itself. Why should I alter my daily life when Verizon is clearly the one with the issue? I hope there's a class action lawsuit because Verizon is trying to get over on everyone! I need answers!

        Hello NotHappy101,
I think it's quite odd that your data usage is at very specific times. We can certainly take a closer look. Please reply to my Direct Message, so we can get some additional details.

  • All I want to do is upgrade two phones ... WHY IS THIS SO HARD?  And, WHY CAN'T VERIZON DO THIS???!!!

In the past month, I've spoken to dozens of Verizon reps on the phone, been disconnected a few times, been at 4 different stores, been told several different things by EVERYONE, been told "oh sure, we can do that" only to be told by someone else "no we can't" ... how can you run a business like this??!!!
I AM SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW I COULD SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, it was because our account was listed as a monthly paid cash account,
then, it was because we were trying to get phones at a franchise store,
then, it was because our account was set up as a business account (according to the Verizon rep I met at Wal-Mart, even though the Vz reps on the phone tell me it's listed as a personal account AND I sign onto our account as a personal account)
then, we were told to order our upgrades on over the phone (but then we were told we would have to pay for the phones and wait for a debit card rebate to be mailed to us, which my husband does not want to do)
then, we were told to order the upgrade phones online, but every time I try I get a processing error,
then, the computer tells us to call a specific phone number if we believe the error was not right,
then, the phone recording message repeats itself through multiple options TWICE and then hangs up on me,
then, I call another Verizon number and get a "helpful" rep who tells me we can order them on the phone ... only to come back to me after being on hold and telling me they have gone home for the day,
then, I try to get help online at Verizon.com and NO ONE IS AVAILABLE TO HELP ME.
I've been to Wal-Mart 3 or 4 times, been to the local franchise store, been to a store in the Chicago area, and have spoken with Verizon reps on the phone until I'm blue, and, still ... STILL ... I don't have new phones.
(removed) ALL I WANT IS TO UPGRADE OUR 2 PHONES ... WHY IS THIS SO HARD???!!!
We have been a Verizon customer for over 16 years, apparently that means NOTHING.

That is because the people who edit the posts are NOT CS agents but instead are people who are employed by the vendor Verizon has contracted to host the forum. I don't even believe they are Verizon employees, but employees of the Jive forum platform.
For example, if a Verizon store had an electrician repairing the lighting in one of their stores, you wouldn't necessarily walk in and expect them to get off their ladder to assist you with information about a phone since they had nothing better to do than to work on the lights.  First of all, they aren't salesmen or CS agents. Second, they may not even have the capability to give you the assistance you are requesting.

  • Why is it so hard to migrate to Symbian?

I decided to switch from my Sony Ericson/UIQ phone to an N8 and quite honestly I have transferred most of the 500 contacts tediously over single bluetooth to messages at a time.
Before you tell me about OVI suite etc, many people may not have a PC, or may not get to install the Nokia Suite, or simply are scared or more bloating of their PC's.You should make handset to handset data portability.
I pulled out an old 6630 I had with a full address book, youre datastorer.sis file you send over does not work in older phones. UIQ rejects it (application is invalid) and so do the 2nd getn Symbian phones....
The issue is that you still don't support multi vcf support multiple VCF business cards as single messages instead of just reading the first card and stopping.
Why is it so hard? You guys at Nokia should know that people just give up, if they don't get to personalize their phone and get their data on, they just return it and go for another phone. So serious effort needs to go into this.
In comparision I got I got the (SE) VCF frile from the N8 and emailed it to myself picked up the email with my iPod/Iphone/iPad and in under a minute I had the 500 contacts in Apple devices.
Maybe instead o trying to invent augmentned reality gizmos you can focus on getting core functionality right. Maybe people will be able to switch to Symbian. If it is impossible to switch to Symbian no one will.... why not make a iPhone App for people to dump their data in a way it can be pulled into a Symbian phone....  Lots of people are sick of their iPhone and the battery shenigans.....
Make symbian an Option you can choose....

Yes but that depends you putting your data on some US based juggernaut or 3rd party that probably you may not trust with your personal data.  I personally don't.
This is essential functionality that is necesary for customers to adopt Nokia products and Nokia should not be letting 3rd parties whether or how easy it is to migrate to their devices.

  • Why is it so hard to get iTunes to find my library?

<rant>I don't understand why it's so difficult to get iTunes to find an existing library after a move. I wish I had left this alone from the beginning. Had I known it would be this hard, I wouldn't have done this.</rant>
I have tried to move my iTunes folder from beneath my home folder to the root. After following some instructions to get this moved (I forget the link), iTunes thinks my songs are in the trash. I verified this by looking at the iTunes Library.xml file, and saw the songs linked to the songs in the trash.
So now that I've deleted my trash, all of my songs are showing up with exclamation points, saying it can't find the original song. If I locate an individual song in the new folder, it works fine. But I have thousands of songs, and have little interest in doing this for my whole library.
I've tried manually updating the iTunes Library.xml file, pointing them to the proper location, but I've figured out iTunes doesn't really use this file -- it uses the binary "iTunes Library" (with no extension) file, which I can't edit (thanks Apple).
I've also tried the option+start trick to point it to the new library (at several different points along the way), and it still thinks my songs are in the trash, I believe.
I can only assume that this has something to do with digital rights, and them not making it easy to copy music, but for us legit people, this is really a pain.
So is there a way to get this back? Or, am I left to wiping out my library, and having iTunes import my songs from scratch, and lose all of my metadata and album art?
Also once again, why is this so hard anyway? Has Apple not seen the tons of blogs and discussions on this very topic enough to warrant actually addressing this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank Chris and Diane.
After looking into this more, it looks like after transferring my media folder, I also moved my iTunes library to the root following this article:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/
Somehow, something got missed (though I'm almost positive I followed that first Apple support article). Anyway, my fix was this:
    1) Move my iTunes media folder back to the exact trash location it thought the songs should be in, and confirmed that the songs were once again found through iTunes.
    2) Follow the Apple support article, relocated my iTunes Media folder from the trash to the desired folder in the root
    3) Moved my iTunes Library back to my home folder following the iLounge article above (move physical files, then option-open iTunes and point the library to the new location).
Once I did this, everything is as I wanted it.
By the way, Chris, the reason I want my iTunes in the root of my external rather than under the Home/Shared, is because I want my songs on the external, and my Shared folder is on my internal. I want to keep all my large files on my external.
Also, Diane, what I meant by digital rights issue, I didn't mean this was the cause of my problem, but rather speculating this was the reason Apple made it so hard to relocate your media files. Again, that was just speculation, I obviously have no way of knowing. It just seems unreasonably hard to relocate your iTunes songs (or even just tell iTunes where they are after it lost them) because Apple seems to try to make users' lives easier, not harder.
Anyway, thanks again for the help.

  • HT2499 I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.4. The DVD player does not have a feature to store film clips. Why? This is useful for my work and I had it on my older computer? Why the loss of capacity?

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.4. The DVD player does not have a feature to store film clips. Why? This is useful for my work and I had it on my older computer? Why the loss of capacity?

I cannot recall the DVD player ever being a place to "store" videos - it is simply an app to play videos.
If your machine is new, then iMovie should be included as the "shrunk" version of iLife is included with Lion (iMovie, Garageband, and iPhoto). However, iMovie is not a place to store videos either - it is a video editor. You import your clips and edit them in order to then burn to a DVD or share via a social media site.
Have you considered simply dragging the clips to your folder "Movies"? That would be a great place to just store them (please be aware that videos are usually large files, so keep your hard drive space in mind so you keep a minimum free and available for the OS to operate properly):
