Why is pre-paid cheaper then being on a contract

So I have been with Verizon for over 10 years(but they say i have only been with them for 6 years), when I got my first phone it was under the name Airtouch..... now fast forward to now I am still with Verizon but i have tell the end of the month to return my phone and end my contract(as I just renewed). Today I came home to and looked on Verizon's site and it was giving me a ad for pre-paid service. When I looked more into it I would get more text, talk and data with pre-paid. Right now my bill comes out to 91.20 and that's with a employee discount. With that plan I get 450 min, 250 text and 4gb of data with hotspot. Now looking at the pre-paid its base is $45 for unlimited text/talk and with that you get 500mb, But you can buy 3gb of data for $20. So if I got pre-paid I would have unlimited text/talk and 6.5gb of data for $85. Why, Why is it like that? I thought the point of being in a contract was to get a better deal but it seems the other way now.
My current plan
$39.99 450 min
$5.00 250 text
$50.00 4gb data + hot spot(that i use once a year and can do without)
= $94.99 *pre discount / $91.20 after taxes and discounts
Pre-paid
$45 unlimited talk and text +500mb
$20 3gb data
$20 3gb data
=$85 o and a kicker the data is good for 90 days so and if dont use it I can use next month
WHY VERIZON whats the point of being on a contract

It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems.

  • Use a Pre-Paid Card then Credit Card

I searched the board before publishing, but didn't find a clear answer, so I will ask here.
I set up an iTunes account with a credit card because I assumed that was the only way to get an account.
I eventually I plan to use the credit card to buy individual songs. But before I start using the credit card, I want to use my Pre-Paid Gift Card first.
My question, is there a way to use up my gift card first (just to buy songs) then start using my credit card once I run out of funds on the credit card?
Separate question - is there a way to set up the account where I can not use a credit card and only use a pre-paid gift card? (this would be for added protection against credit card fraud)
    Thanks.

Apple should read this stuff once in a while.
Some prepaid cards appear to act as credit cards to the merchant. If yours is one of them it should work, but debit cards are not accepted for the iTunes Store.
Can you use a pre-paid credit card from Wal-Mart?
Do you mean an iTunes Card, the kind sold at Wal-Mart? Sure, that will work.
"Pre-paid" and "credit" are mutually exclusive.
I believe this way of thinking about it ought to be valid: if you need a PIN code, the card won't work.
I don't use debit cards so I can't be certain if this will apply consistently, but let me know if that makes sense.

  • IPhone to Pre-paid

Since I cannot lower my monthly bill by removing data, I am considering changing my iPhone 4S into a prepaid plan. Has anyone done this? Can I switch my currently active plan to pre-paid?

Are you currently under contract?  I would wait until you have completed your contract and are month to month before changing to prepaid.  Since the iPhone 4S is a 3G only smartphone it should eligible to activate on a prepaid plan.  You should check out the Prepaid Plans space for more information and questions on prepaid plans including the customer service number for prepaid customers.

  • Why do i get a busy signal when calling my pre paid flip phone?

I recently activated a old pre paid flip phone and I added minutes with a refill card on my verizon wireless account online.  It shows the payment as well as the calls I made to it  but it never lets me get through to the person.  What is the glitch?????

I apologize for the problems you've experienced GrandmaJean. I know it's important to have your concerns addressed and resolved. We don't have access to prepaid accounts, but the number to call is 888-294-6804. Please make sure you select the correct option, but you must allow the prompts to finish before making a selection. If you don't, this may be why you're unable to get through.

  • Purchase, licensing, payment Why after i paid $150 for the product do i have to buy a serial number to use lightroom for more then 30 days?

Purchase, licensing, payment Why after i paid $150 for the product do i have to buy a serial number to use lightroom for more then 30 days? Why doesn't a serial number come with my online purchase? should people have to register a product they bought from the same website? why wouldn't this all be tied together with your purchase? total headache.... also i downloaded the free trial for 30 days and when my trial was up i went to buy the product and found it nearly impossible to find without joining something that has a monthly fee. Is this the standard for buying things online these days?

When you purchased Lightroom you should have received an e-mail with your serial number. Better go back and check your e-mails that you received from Adobe. I think one of them should be a receipt, and should have the serial number printed on it.

  • I bought a pre-paid phone card . Why is this?

I bought a pre-paid phone card and my time was added but it was not added as my $45 unlimited plan and I bought the $45 phone card at the Target store by my house. I also bought $10 worth of extra bridge data with my credit card this month and it has not been added as well. Why is this? If this does not get figured out I am going to be switching to a different phone service provider.

        cutie0707,
I definitely understand needing to make sure this time is added correctly! That's very important. Our prepaid team are the only ones able to view prepaid accounts. They are available to help at 888-294-6804. They can make sure everything is set up correctly and you get everything you are supposed to!

Is this a MasterCard credit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside, a MasterCard debit card issued to you by a bank in the country in which you legally reside in connection with a demand deposit account (checking/savings) that you maintain in that bank and have a verifiable billing address in that same country or is this a prepaid MasterCard debit card that you bought from a local store?

It's quite unusual to find a TV that has a genuine network file server access mode (yours might, though: what model is it?), so the chances are that you have been using twonky DLNA up to now... I'd suggest looking to see if your TV has upgraded its firmware. As for the solution, you might check the 'Navigation Type' selected for your TV under Sharing|Media Receivers on the twonky UI pagepage; this determines the 'views' that are presented to DLNA clients. One of which is 'By Folder'. If you haven't already seen it, this FAQ might help: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud/FAQ-Twonky-DLNA-Media-Server-Setup-amp-Use/td-p/858810

  • Poor customer service; send pre-paid box for return

My name is Danielle. In early April I bought a Dell Inspiron All-In-One desktop from the Best Buy in Manhattan, KS (Store #1101). At check out I was under the impression that I was also buying Geek Squad Protection. In early July the screen of the all in one was cracked so I boxed everything back up in the original packaging and took it to BB/ Geek Squad for repair. I was surprised there was a charge at that time and was told I didnt get Geek Squad Protection, but instead an extended warranty. That's fine and mistakes happened, partly my fault for not checking the receipt better.  We still sent the computer for repair as we had never had problems with BB before and we are long-time customers. On the 28th of July the computer was returned un-repaired as they could not find a replacement screen and we were advised to call Dell directly for repair. Again no-ones fault so we took the computer home frustrated but not upset.  Dell came to our home on 08/04/15 to repair the computer, but when we opened the box only the cracked monitor was inside with none of the accessories, power cord, or stand. Upset, I called the Manhattan BB and was told to bring the computer up to see what they could do. When I got there later that day I was told that they had to email the repair center before they could do anything. I asked why I was told to come up if all they could do was send an email. We do not live in Manhattan it is a drive for us. I was told I could wait 15 minutes for a manager (Tyler) to come back from break.  An hour later, Tyler gives me a keyboard/mouse and a used charger. They have no replacement stand and say it will take 48 hours to contact the repair center to see if it’s there.  I ask if the charger is the same one for the computer as I do not want to damage it further by using the wrong charger. He tells me it’s the same, not the exact same that came with the computer, but the same brand and everything else. When I get home I plug in the computer, but it does not turn on. The power light blinks and then nothing. After looking up the charger it seems I was given a charger for a laptop and not a desk top. I called BB back in the morning as soon as they opened. I spoke to a manager named Sarah, who is the only saving grace in this whole fiasco, who checked in the back and, lo and behold!, my things were in the back the entire time. She says that she’ll put my name on them and leave them at Geek Squad for me to pick up. My husband happened to be in Manhattan picking up his dress uniform after work, so I called and asked him to pick up the items. He is given only the stand and is told that they will not return the other items until we give back the keyboard/mouse and charger they gave us yesterday. In other words they threatened to hold our items hostage. I told them on the phone and in no uncertain terms that this was not acceptable and they returned all of our items to us. I, however, do not appreciate the threat, the lies, or the way that this situation was handled.  I have absolutely no use for their keyboard/mouse and even less use for a Dell laptop charger. I refuse to step foot back into that store, or any other Best Buy after this, but I don’t want to “steal” these useless items. Please send a pre-paid box for me to return these items. I refuse to drive back up there or spend money out of my pocket because of this.  Email or call for the address. Thank you,Danielle G

    Hello DanielleIG –
All-In-One desktops are great machines. Of all the computer types, they have the largest screens, and a bigger chance of being cracked. It’s a terrible feeling when it happens and even worse when you are told you didn’t have Accidental Damage and Handling protection on your computer. It’s great that Geek Squad was still able to send your device for repair, but disappointing that we were unable to obtain the parts from Dell.
I worked for Geek Squad for a few years and was in charge of all the shipping and receiving in my store. While I know we try our absolute hardest to keep accessories labeled and together with their parent computers, I’ve seen instances where they can become separated. In these cases, supplying you with replacement accessories was the right call, but the accessories should have been verified to work with your computer. I am very sorry this did not happen before you took your computer home.
I reached out to the store in Manhattan, KS and spoke with Sarah. She informed me that she has contacted you and made arrangements around the accessories. I urge you to reach out to me if you feel the resolution the store has presented is not what you were looking for. I really appreciate you contacting us with your situation so that we can use it as an opportunity for improvement with our processes. Thank you again, DanielleIG.
I hope you have a great day,

  • #MobileInsider – Telstra Pre-Paid 4G My Pocket Wi-Fi Plus

    Hi everyone!
Our reviewers have received (or should receive very soon!) their Telstra Pocket Wi-Fi devices and the reviews will begin here.
If you'd like to be chosen as a Mobile Insider or would like to find out more please click here.
and  are our amazing reviewers this time around, so watch this space for their feedback.
Please post below if you'd like the reviewers to keep anything particular in mind when they're writing about their first impressions of the devices.
You can read more about the Telstra Pre Paid Pocket Wi-Fi here

Hey! A little bit delayed to the chase but I've been on the move a bit lately, despite this it has been a good environment to test the Pre-Paid 4G My Pocket Wi-Fi Plus device that Telstra graciously provided me with for the #MobileInsider review. Being in the Broadcasting & IT sectors I found the ability to be involved in this review delightful as I had a perfect environment to test it in, I carry an iPhone 6 Plus & Microsoft Surface Pro 3 around with me daily as I not only complete my day job as a radio announcer, but look after a community broadcaster and provide some minor IT support to a couple of other smaller organisations...not to mention the fact I attended a conference a few hours from my place during the testing time.
A video of the unboxing of the device, some first impressions First impressions from receiving the device...the packaging is nice and compact, fresh & funky with enough detail about the product for me to get a good idea of what is can do and what it supports without needing to stand in the store researching the device further before making a purchasing decision. Inside the box you will find the device with SIM already inserted, wall charger and lead, some guides on getting started with the device and the Telstra mobile network, plus a little sticker you can attach to something detailing the default Wireless ID and passcode. Looking at the device more extensively I think it’s a great clean very well rounded design in white with a well placed LCD screen and easy access to the SIM should you need to swap to another or use it with multiple cards. All access to power buttons, one touch Wireless security configs and the SIM point as well as a reset button if things go Pear shaped are spaced reasonably and are not difficult to operate when holding it in your hand. I love the fact that despite the price tag of the unit, the addition of antenna sockets have been added which makes it great for someone who might need to connect an antenna to get some better reception on the device.
Usually you have to pay more money for a device that is capable of taking external antennas. I was a little disappointed from opening the box to find that the device did not have any charge at all from factory packing and I had to plug it in for 3-4 hours before I could get started. Usually I find that manufacturers like to test their devices so that they work straight out of the packet giving the batteries a little base charge…which then in turn gives the new owner a moment to be able to power it up and have a mess about before charging and getting serious. Startup time was less than 30 seconds and it locks onto a signal as fast as a mobile phone. The LCD display is a great source of information at your fingertips. The top half of the display shows how many bars you have, the amount of Wireless Clients that are connected, network activity through the device as it happens and battery status. On the lower half it can display the amount of data you have on your account plus the Wifi network name & password so connecting is a breeze. Configuring with devices was simple, none of my devices had any dramas with selecting the network and entering the passcode…they just worked immediately once connected. I ran into a spot of bother with being able to activate straight from the box and using the device to connect to the activation website, 11PM at night and Telstra’s activation site was not responding…but connecting to my home Internet connection fixed this. Online activation was a breeze as the process seems to have been streamlined a little since the last time I activated a prepaid service. Using the service number on the side of the box along with some personal details and a drivers license, I was able to fill the forms out in less than 5 minutes leaving the rest to Telstra’s activation servers which completed in 5 minutes. I find it very nifty that Telstra not only sends a text to the service but also emails to let you know when the process was completed. Performance of the device was great in several places that I tested it, speed was consistent on any equipment I connected wirelessly with the device and my comparisons with using the network on my mobile phone…it also doesn’t get inconsistent as you share the connection with multiple devices which is a big plus. The device was also able to obtain a good signal in areas where my mobile phone may have found it challenging to lock a consistent 4G connection….like for example at the conference I was at in an RSL club, situated in a basement level room with many concrete and metal obstructions and flaky provided Wifi (I turned the device on and used that instead so I could finish some notes on a presentation I was making). The device also has a web interface that can allow you to keep tabs on your actual data usage, more detailed information on battery power, the ability to read/send text messages as well as adjusting some settings to improve performance like the Wifi signal, a sleep function when the device is not connected to any clients and some firewall functions. I think that along with the Wireless ID & passcode sticker they could have included the default web interface password because for those not reading the quick start guides fully it could be a small challenge to figure out what the password was. I immediately thought a group of standard default passwords and was able to enter the config page easily. Battery was as I would expect with any modern mobile network connected device, enough to get you through a day of moderate usage…some would find this a concern but you can use the device while it’s charging as well and there are many affordable options including USB car charger jacks and recharging packs you can connect it up to when you are short of juice. Aside from the activation hassle I thought it was a great unit, for the money you are spending to get it the device comes with 3GB to get you started and packs so many features into a device you can carry around in your pocket and have at your dispense when you need Internet on the go. I would recommend this product to friends and family that need something that is not too complex and not expensive to configure and get going online using the Telstra mobile network. The device was easier to use as a wireless hotspot than using my mobile phone, which despite a simple settings change does not seem to want to consistently work with my Microsoft Surface Pro 3. This device would work great for those with basic computer skills after initial setup given the simple controls to turn the device on on and off and having connection info at your fingertips on the colour screen.

  • ITunes gift card with pre-paid VISA

Apple is REALLY starting to frusterate me!
Okay so, I linked a pre-paid VISA card to my iTunes account (BIG MISTAKE) and I currently have under a dollar left on it. I recently got a $15 iTunes gift card as a present and I redeemed it and it says that I have $15 on my iTunes account. But, when I ty to purchase TweetBot ($2.99), it tells me my credit card has been declined. Why does this happen? Does Apple just ignore the gift card and go straight to paying for the app with my VISA?
    EDIT:
As dumb as I sound right now, I removed my VISA from my account so that problem is fixed. But now It says "Your Purchase Could Not Be Completed, For assistance, contact iTunes Support at www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/." How do I fix this now?

You will need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
In terms of the pre-paid Visa card, I don't think that you will be able to use them, a credit card needs to be registered to the name and address that you have on your iTunes account so that it can be verified.

  • Since last software update, pre-paid internet does not work anymore. Get "you have not signed up for a data plan" message. Pre-paid acct is in order! What's up???

I have had  an iPad 3G for more than a year now. I did not get it with a SIM card, since I expected to use almost completely at home, where we have wireless internet. Eventually, I decided  it would be handy to be able to take it on the road, and signed up for pre-paid Internet with KPN (national Dutch telecommunications company). That worked fine, until the last big iPad software update. Since then, whenever I try to make a connection outside the house, I get the following message…
    Mobile Data Account
You have not signed up for a data plan.
Would you like to set up a new account?
If you don’t, you can do it later in Settings.
…with the options of ‘Later’ or ‘Now’ to press. If I press Now, I get a screen “Please wait while the page is loading – this should only take a few seconds to complete.” But it never does, the ball just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning….
To my mind, with pre-paid internet I should not HAVE to set up a Mobile Data Account in the first place. I’ve checked with KPN, and my account is completely in order. I’ve checked with the local Apple store, and the geniuses say they’ve never seen this. Can anyone help me?

I updated to 3.6.4 and when I went to NetFlix to watch the next show of a series, it said
    something like
    Installation complete, restart your browser.
I restarted browser, same problem. Restarted comp. Same problem.
I updated Adobe Flash 10.1, still same problem.
But able to watch some vids on other sites, but full screen gave me the big blank white screen with audio only, had to click around in the dark ( so to speak) to find the minimize button.
I did a System Restore to before the Firefox and Adobe updates.
I then did not update Firefox as recommended and went to NetFlix and wellah, i can view the movies again.
    And Full Screen is fine.
I then experimented and updated Firefox only, went to NetFlix and got same msg with no viewable shows.
So did a System Restore once more.
Staying at 3.6.3 for a while longer until I know I can watch my movies.
I don't own a TV, so this is my only form of an occasional escape.
I do hope this is figured out soon.
With what I have done, it seems to be Firefox, Not Flash.
    Good Luck to us all.
