Eclipse - RDS Query Builder dies young

I'm running Eclipse 3.4.2 on Vista (please keep any
anti-Vista bigotry to yourself, unless you are aware of any known
Vista-related issues that are related to this one). I've installed
the Adobe CF801 Extensions in order to do debugging and data
acccess. I'm also running Cold Fusion 8 - single server with IIS.
DB is Oracle 10g - also installed locally on the same machine.
I created my RDS Configuration on Port 80 with RDS
authentication, etc. No Problem - both "Test Connection" and "Test
Debugger" are successful.
Now I go into the RDS Query Builder and things are looking
pretty happy. I can see the database objects, maybe select a table
or two...even build and run queries. But after running like one
query (or maybe only browsing a couple of tables) I get this
message: "A connection to the RDS Server could not be established
because the webserver was unreachable".
So, I close out the Query Builder and bring the RDS
Configuration back up - re-try the "Test Connection" and "Test
Debugger" and they both still work. When I bring the Query Builder
back up, I get the same "connection...could not be established"
message and the Query Builder screen is just all blank.
Consistently, when I then Exit Eclpse, I get a popup saying:
"Exception EOSError in module RDSQueryBuilder.dll at 000113E5.
System Error. Code 1404. Invalid Hook Handle."
Did the same thing over several times with the same result.
Also, rebooted the whole box and things still work the same.
Seemingly the QueryBuilder is losing its handle on the RDS
Configuraion or possibly not releasing some kind of lock on it
between queries or schema gets, even though my connections are
still fine.
This definitely isn't going to cut it - if I have to exit and
re-start Ecipse everytimh I need to do a query.
Any suggestions?

in addition, I can say that I installed the same flex builder
trial on an XP machine, using its own local RDS, and found that the
wizard worked just fine.
So what is the variable here, why is the wizard not working
on the vista PC ?
Is it Vista ?
Is it the fact that I'm trying to use RDS against a remote
server and not the local one ?

  • Visual Query Builder

    Hello !
    I am currently trying out the CFBuilder beta on a laptop running MS Windows XP Pro SP3 with 2GB RAM.  I also have the developer edition of Coldfusion 8 installed on that machine running the local server.
    The RDS Viewer appears to be configured correctly and I can see all of the tables for all of the databases I have declared in CF Admin and I can execute SQL statements as well as view the contents of each table but I do not have the button on the RDS Viewer to activate the visual query builder.  Where is the visual query builder ?  The user guide mentions that this should be available but I don't appear to have the button for it and can therefore not use it.
    Is the visual query builer feature missing in this beta ?  Is anyone else having the same problem and what did you do to rectify it ?  What am I doing wrong ?
    I would appreciate some help.
    Thank you.
    Ed

    I meant to add that there is are in fact other Eclipse-based database query tools that one may want to consider for more functionality:
    Eclipse SQL Explorer - http://eclipsesql.sourceforge.net/
    QuantumDB - http://quantum.sourceforge.net/
    I mention these (and other non-Eclipse-based query tools) in my CF411 site category on them, http://www.cf411.com/#query.
    Then, too, there is also a Database Explorer view that comes with Aptana (which is bundled in CFBuilder). You can find it with Window>show view>other>databases. Curiously, unlike the full version in Aptana as described here (http://www.aptana.com/docs/index.php/Database_Explorer), the one in CFB seems limited to connecting only to Derby and SQLLite databases. We can't even provide the JDBC connection string to try to point ot others.
    (And lest one get excited about using the Derby (embedded) option when creating a new connection in that window, that means an embedded derby database embedded in CFBuilder, not one embedded in CF itself. There is the "derby (network)" option, but that will work only if you've set up the network server feature of Derby. For more on those things, see a talk I did on the topic at http://www.carehart.org/presentations/#derby).
    Anyway, I've not yet explored the other two alternatives above. Has anyone else?
    (PS if any of you get the forum feed by email, sorry if what you saw got truncated above. I just learned that if you inadvertantly do "Ctrl-S" while typing in these forums (on the web interface), it automatically saves and POSTs the message. Yikes.)

  • Visual Query Builder Doesn't Work

    I'm using the ColdFusion extensions to Flex Builder 3
    (3.0.1.205647), and I can't use the Visual Query Builder. This is a
    fresh ColdFusion8 install. I have RDS configured, I even test the
    connection successfully.
    I can use the RDS DataView and see the databases, click on
    cfartgallery, for example, and show the 'art' table contents. No
    problem. Then I click the 'Visual Query Builder' button, and
    nothing happens. The query builder does not show.
    It's not a big deal until I try and run the CF/Ajax app
    wizard, and editing the master page is supposed to open up the
    query builder...same problem. Even here it won't open. So, I can't
    edit anything or use the wizards at all. I don't get any error
    message, it just doesn't do anything when I click the button.
    Anyone else have this problem? Is there some setting I am
    missing or have to configure after a fresh install in the CF
    administrator?

  • Flex/cold fusion wizard & Visual Query builder has a problem

    has anybody tried the cold fusion / flex application wizard in flex 3?
    to get there follow these menu choices:
    file     new     other     cold fusion wizards     coldfusion / flex application wizard
    I previously installed cf8 and the rds query viewer works fine.
    i simply choose from the following menus:
    window     other views...     Cold Fusion     RDS dataview
    i was initially prompted for the rds password which i entered.
    in the RDS Dataview, I can see the tables, columns, and data for all my existing datasources.
    Unfortunately, when I use the COld Fusion/Flex application wizard,
    I get to the page layout and design screen, add a page with the name artists, choose page type master,  and click the Edit master page button.
    Nothing happens when I click the Edit Master Page button.  I followed the cf/flex tutorial exactly but there is no query builder.
    I dont know if this is related but in the RDS query viewer, the Visual Query BUilder doesn't work.
    I think this may be the problem (the visual query builder has a problem)
    Unfortunately, how do I fix this problem

    already found the answer
    flex has to be run as administrator if using WIndows Vista
    simply shut down flex, right click the startup icon, choose run as administrator, and the visual query builder runs fine.
    Dont know why this occurs because you are always prompted for the rds password.
    anyway, problem solved.

  • Visual Query Builder problem

    I have the trail version of Flex Builder 2 IDE. I can run the
    RDS, and do manual SQL queries. But when I click on the Visual
    Query Builder button, nothing happens - not even an error message.
    When I try to use the ColdFusion/Flex application Wizard, I can get
    to the Page Layout and Design screen. Then when I click on the Edit
    Master Page or Edit Detail Page button, again, nothing happens. I
    think this also uses the Visual Query Builder, so maybe that's why
    it isn't working.
    Is there something extra I didn't download or setup?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Functions Not Available in Query Builder

    Application Express 4.1.1.00.23
    When we go into the Query Builder and select a table and then, select a column, this adds a row for that column below the table. In that newly added row, there is a dropdown labeled "Function". However, this drop down is never enabled, i.e. clicking it has no effect.
    Inspecting this element in Chrome, we find that the following error is being thrown at line 502 of qb_core.js
    >
    Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'indexOf' of undefined
    >
    The offending line appears to be:
    var lid = tableDiv.childNodes.id.substring(0,tableDiv.childNodes[i].id.indexOf('_'));
    Has anyone seen this or does anyone have a work around?

    Mehabub,
    Seems hard to believe that it is working for you. We are on Chrome 21.0.1180.89 m. This is not working for anyone (was originally reported by an End User). BTW, we forced our users to abandon IE in lieu of Chrome. Clearing the cache makes no difference.
    It does not work in Safari. Safari -5.1.7 (7534.57.2) throws errors here:
    >
    qb_core.js:129TypeError: 'undefined' is not an object (evaluating 'e.explicitOriginalTarget.id')

    if (e.explicitOriginalTarget.id == 'QUERYTEXT'){

              return e.keyCode;
            } else {
              return false;
        }It does not work AT ALL in IE. IE doesn't even add the row for the selected column in the GUI. It throws this error (from F12 Debug):
    >
    SCRIPT5022: DOM Exception: HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR (3)
    qb_core.js, line 1389 character 5
    >
    This is the section of the code it dies on:
    if(document.all){
        table.firstChild.appendChild(newTR);
      }else{
        table.appendChild(newTR);
      }It does work in FireFox (15.0). This is the only browser for which this works (for anyone here).

  • Where is Visual Query Builder??

    In the RDS Query Viewer, there is an alleged Visual Query button to launch the Visual Query Builder. There is no button present for the Visual Query Builder as shown in the help file.  I cannot find any preferences that hide this button.  Please help!  Thanks.  MPe-commerce

    There is a whole section of help that tells you how to use Visual Query Builder. See this:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec16ab8 -7ff9.html.
    The exact same thing appears in the CF Builder help within Flash Builder. Problem is, like other items I have found, it’s all phony because it does not exist.
    Adobe has known this all along. Look at this forum post from August of last year: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2154542.
    I got CF Builder because it came for free with FlashBuilder – and it’s not even worth that (free) price because you have to put up with the frustration of dealing with the kinds of issues we are dealing with now.
    And to think that, evidently, some poor suckers have paid $299… As far as I am concerned, that borders on fraud.
    The way it looks to me, they have taken the free ColdFusion Extensions for FlexBuilder and made them into a $299 half-baked product (marketers call it ‘re-purposing’).
    I say half-baked because CF Builder documents, but does not have;
    Visual      Query Builder
    The      ability to generate a CFC from an AS class
    ColdFusion Extensions for FlexBuilder do have those features and they work fine. But you cannot install those in Flash Builder – I know because I tried.
    Sorry Adobe, but I am beginning to think of you as the Goldman Sachs of the software industry.

  • RDS Query Viewer - Rows Returned Limit

    If you run a query within the RDS Query Viewer and the recordset is larger than 50 rows, only the first 50 are displayed. It would be nice to have the option to set the maximum (or have no maximum at all).
    I realize there are a variety of database plug-ins and tools as noted on Charlie Arehart's blog. Most of these would get around this cap of 50 rows, but seeing as how we already have some database querying capability within the RDS toolset it would make more sense to just have it all in one place. I even find RDS Query Viewer useful for running other CRUD operations such as UPDATE, DELETE and INSERT.
    If for some reason Adobe is feeling the Christmas spirit at this time in the year, then making the recordset grid copy-and-pasteable would be a hot feature to have as well.

    Good point, Jose. I'd missed that myself. And I just noticed this limit of only the first 50 was the case for the Adobe Eclipse Extensions for CF8, too.
    I guess in that respect I'd say that the fact I'd not noticed it until now in interesting: I've just used the feature to get a sense of what data is typically in a given table and its columns. For that, the first 50 are enough. But sure, if one wanted to browse all the records, being able to skip through would be nice (you could do that in Dreamweaver's RDS-based database viewer, which showed 25 at a time. Interestingly, HomeSite+'s database viewer simply showed all data.)
    But sure, it might be nice to see paging through the records in CFBuilder's viewer. I could see how the ability to copy text from the grid can help, too.
    And thanks for the mention of my CF411 site, Jose.

  • CM14 BI Publisher - modifying an existing Data Model, the Graphic View in Query Builder does not display

    I am trying to edit the default forms/reports that come with CM14, trying to edit the data model, data set, (to get to the old Infomaker style graphic view) , the Query model does not display (error the list of tables is too long..) Oracle tell me the limit is 60,  there are not 60 tables referenced in any CM report.
    Does this Query builder view work at all on any report?
    (bigger question, we are moving from CM12, should we move to CM13 which works with infomaker?)
    Thanks,
    Paul L

    Kurt, thanks for your replies.
    A couple of notes/clarifications.
    1.     You are correct that BI works better in Firefox--I have observed issues with the BI display when using IE.  I would recommend using Firefox too.
    2.     You are correct about the way to get to the Query Builder to see a graphical view of data tables.  There are basically two issues with this that I mentioned, but will re-iterate:
    a.  If you have an EXISTING query in the data set, then click the "Query Builder" button, this will remove the existing query that's there, it will NOT display the existing query in the query builder.  Query Builder works only to create a NEW query from scratch.
    b.  Query builder is limited to selecting 60 fields max in your query.  If you are creating a large report with many tables, you may find that 60 fields is not enough.  For that you will have to work in the SQL edit screen rather than using the query builder.
    I would impress on anyone developing CM14 reports that they become familiar with the database schema and relationships to avoid problems when developing your BI reports.  You should be able to find the tables and joins documentation in the knowledgebase.

  • Query Builder in Crystal Report Server 2008?

    I am running CRS2008 V1 on Windows Server 2003 as single server install. I am using IIS as the web application server. Query Builder doesn't show up as an option anywhere I can find. How do I get to Query Builder?
    How do I install Query Builder if it is not already available?
    Is Tomcat required?
    Can I continue to use IIS but have Query Builder available as well?
    Can I go ahead and install Tomcat without crashing my BOE installation and IIS?
    How do I install Tomcat on this server?

    Well I've never installed CRS 2008 so I'm not sure. If the installer allows you should be able to go to add/remnove programs and modify the install, adding tomcat/java. If that is not allowed the installer may require IIS or tomcat only and a full reinstall (I hope not).
    I work with BOE 3.1 mostly and we can add/remove it with that installer.

    Hello,
    When I try to refresh a report in Crystal Reports 10, it displays this error message:

    Then, when I try to register querybuilder.dll, RegSvr32 gives this error:

    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    Graham,
    Thank you for your reply.
    This is a new install.

  • Problem of Query Builder

    Hi ,
    I am using SQL Developer 1.1.0.23. In this I was trying to use Query Builder. In this I am facing one problem. In our company, we are provided with the view_only schema which are having access to all the objects.
    Now while using Query Builder, I want to use the table of the other schema. But Query builder allow only tables owned by the schema with which we are logged in. This is making it virtually useless if we need to create the query like
    Select a.col1,
    b.co1
    from schema1.table_name1 a,
    schema2.table_name2 b;
    Can we created such query with Query Builder, or do we have any work around for this ???
    Regards
    Martand Joshi

    This is correct. There is a bug logged for this, but at this stage the query builder does not support read only access.
