Why is the bookmark toolbar only visible in my original window?

A typical example: I click on a link and a new page/site opens in a different window--I wasn't paying enough attention to click & press command so I could get a new tab instead.
Except the bookmarks bar, everything looks the same--even "bookmarks toolbar" has a checkmark next to it in the view menu.
From the posts I just read, it may be an issue of having a Mac.
Help me, OS Wan Kenobi! I mean, Safari? Chrome? You're so much better--and not just Firefox, Mozilla as a whole.
Please and thank you.
Rachel

If a link opens in a pop-up window then websites can specify what to disable in such a pop-up window.

  • The Bookmarks toolbar is empty, doesn't allow me to add any bookmarks. I have tried all the options indicated in the support website, but none work. The toolbar remains empty and does not even allow me to drag something down to it from the location bar.

Please see the question above, as that is the problem I am having. I don't understand why the Bookmarks tab does not show any of the bookmarks which I have tagged. They can only be chosen from the drop down menu. I tried dragging the page to the bookmark toolbar from the location bar but that does not work. Is it a glitch in the system?

  • How do I get toolbar bookmark items to display in the bookmarks toolbar instead of in the Bookmarks menu | Bookmarks toobar submenu?

When I add bookmarks to the bookmarks toolbar, they don't appear on the bookmarks toolbar (duh...) but appear instead in the Bookmarks Toolbar submenu inside of the Bookmarks menu.
How do I get them to appear on the bookmarks toolbar itself?

You can check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

  • Cant create bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar panel

    Hi guys
I cannot create any bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar panel. When ever I add a website to the bookmark toolbar panel, it is not displayed in the bookmarks toolbar panel. If I go to bookmarks menu and check under bookmarks toolbar, all the websites are there! I have attached links to the screenshots.

the horizontal "bookmark toolbar" is checked on in the "view" "toolbars" menu, but appears as a blank bar, without any entries. If I go to "Bookmarks" on the menu bar I can see the "bookmark toolbar" entries. How can I make visible the bookmarks saved in the horizontal "Bookmark toolbar".

  • The Bookmark Toolbar will not place the bookmarks I save on the toolbar underneath the address bar... help!?

I just recently reformatted my laptop and lost all of my old bookmarks, however i did back them up. when i restored the bookmarks, i was unable to put bookmarks under the adress bar (bookmark Toolbar)

  • Why does my bookmark toolbar NOT show icons only even though I set it up that way in the customize drop down?

I get "icons and text" or "text" but "icons" only do not appear. You say the default setting should be icons only but this just isn't the case. Is this a programming issue?

Add code to the userChrome.css file below the default @namespace line to hide the icons on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-icon { display:none !important; }</nowiki></pre>
The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the chrome folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You need to create the chrome folder and a plain text file called userChrome.css in this folder (the names are case sensitive).
*Make sure to select "All files" and not "Text files" when using "Save as" to save the file to prevent adding a hidden .txt file extension that would give you a not working userChrome.css.txt file.

Why does the Right-click -> "t" delete a bookmark on the bookmark toolbar, when Right-click -> "t" opens a new tab elsewhere in Firefox. The bookmark toolbar use Right-click -> "w" to open in a new tab. Please change this to "t" to... I keep deleting all my bookmark because you don't make the commands consistent!

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.<br />
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).<br />
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.

  • How can I get rid of the icons in the bookmarks toolbar in 4.0 so I just have text there (fit more bookmarks in visible portion) but not switch off other icons?

How can I change the bookmarks toolbar so that it shows only text and not icons (so I can fit more bookmarks on the visible portion) in 4.0 without turning off other icons? This was easy in version 3.

You can do that with the Bookmarks Deiconizer extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmarks-deiconizer

  • I like the navigation toolbar to have icons and the bookmarks toolbar to be text only; like Safari. Can I do this in Firefox?

In Safari the Back, Forward, Home buttons etc are Icons only and the bookmarks are text only. Is there a way of doing this in Firefox?
In View/Toolbars/Customize I do not see this option so I have it set as text only. I don't like the icons in the bookmarks toolbar because they take up more space, limiting the number of visible bookmarks

I want to add items to the bookmarks toolbar. for example: the Zoom Toolbar addon. This works, but not only the favicons appear on the bookmarks toolbar, aswell as the underlined text. How to avoid this?
I only want the favicons from an addon to appear on the bookmarks toolbar, not with the underlined text. How to do this?
This problem doesn't happen with any other toolbar. And this problem didn't happen with an earlier version of firefox. Please Help!
    Thanx, BassMann.

If you only want the favicons and not the names of the bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar, you can do that with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4072/ Smart Bookmarks Bar] add-on.

  • Why does my bookmarks toolbar start hiding my bookmarks when i add more bookmarks to the toolbar? how do i make all of them show and not have a drop down menu?

i had recently installed new firefox and instead of my 20 bookmarks showing up all in the 1 toolbar, only 10 are shown and the rest are hidden to the right with the ">>" button.
how the heck do i change it back to what i previously had? this is driving crazy! i want them all to show and not have to click the ">>" button and go through the drop down menu

Removes text associated with your bookmarks and folders and gives you placement controls over bookmarks extending the functionality and usability of the Bookmarks Toolbar. Your Bookmarks Toolbar is now very Roomy and Smart!
