Why is the FPGA compiler server so slow?

FPGA Cloud compiler is faster because NI servers are high performance, right????
Well, my Windows 7 PC is high performance, but no luck there!
Total CPU usage is never more than 25% and total memory usage (including other applications) is less than 16%.
Why does the compile server not use all available resources? has it been restricted?
How can I leverage more power from my PC?
If NI Servers can compile code quicker, there must be plausible explanation / reason?
Please advise, how to make the compile server run faster locally?

In my experience, taking advantage of Intel's Turbo Boost (my PC has i5) reduced compile time from 85 minutes to 45.
I'm currently testing Cloud Compiler and it took 110 minutes.  How can Cloud Compile Server be the slowest compile?

  • Unable to connect to the fpga compile server

Hi, I keep getting the following message when trying to compile my FPGA code -> LabVIEW FPGA was unable to connect to the FPGA compile server.... System configuration: Win 7 64LV 2009 (32 bit) SP1LV FPGA 2009 SP1cRIO 90249114 Chassis I am developing and compiling on the same machine with the cRIO attached through a wired router. I've tried repairing the FPGA installation with no changes.  The attached screen shots are displayed in the order they are pasted Any insight would be appreciated - thanks in advance!

I appear to be having similar difficulties with compiling a FPGA VI remotely with LabVIEW 2010.
The remote compilation server is a PC running XP 64 bit. I have configured the compilation worker to allow remote connections and it lists it registered capabilities as Xilinx 10.1, Xilinix 11.5 and Xilinx 11.5 (64-bit). This can be seen in the attached png.
My development system is running XP 32 bit with LabVIEW 2010. It is connected to the server via a local area network.
    The process I have been following is as follows;
1.) Log onto the server PC and start the compile worker (this is either physically or by connecting via remote desktop and then disconnecting but leaving the PC logged in with compile worker on)
2.) Set up the FPGA compilation settings on the development computer to be the server (hostname, domain\username, password)
3.) Try and rebuild the target VI
I then receive an error stating that the user name is too long or invalid (see png).
I have set the exceptions in the server firewall to allow port 96 as I found that this is the default port used for earlier version of the compile server but I am unsure if this is applicable in 2010. I need to check with my IT services that exceptions I add are actually applied.
If I go into the compile worker settings on my development PC and try and set them to that of the compile server then it also fails to connect.

  • Why is the download/upload speed so slow on my MBA (about 5 times slower than my PC)?

Why is the download/upload speed so slow on my MBA (about 5 times slower than my PC)?

Are you on band 13 or band 4?  13 is the original LTE band and remains relatively congested. Band 4 is the XLTE band and is less congested and has higher overall potential bandwidth (15 MHz vs 10 MHz). Even so, 7 Mbps is more than enough for doing stuff on your phone and is not considered slow.
    To check band,
    dial *3001#12345#*
    select serving cell info
frequency band will say 13 or 4
FInd an area with band 4 and retest.

Why is the WiFi and browser so slow on iPhone 5?  I've noticed they are not as quick as other smart phones and have seen this brought up in forums.  Also, the WiFi was slow with my iPhone 4 anyone know what the deal is?
    Thanks in advance

Sadly that spiffy reply was of no use.  Browser is so slow and in looking at 3 different iPhones I have noticed there is a serious wait for any simple page to come up like MSN maybe its the iOS maybe Safari maybe should reset daily.  Truly not impressed Apple can you here us now?  Probably not... to busy restarting or resetting.
Truly hope it improves in a hurry.

You really have a question for iPhone support here, so I suggest that you post in the appropriate support area:

The experts over there will likely suggest that you use the Apple Troubleshooting Guide for iOS devices, so you might want to work your way through that before you post in the iPhone support area.

  • Has anyone used the fpga compile farm toolkit?

    Hello all,
This is my very first post, I have been trolling these forums for about two months now.  I hope this is an okay board to post this question too.
My question is if anyone has any experience using the cFPGA compile farm utility, and if it is worth the expense?  The team I work for is getting ready to re-write a mojor peice of software that will be used on 15 C-Rios for a whole bunch of hardware control and data aquisition.  Needles to say we will be doing a fair ammount of compiling and we dont want to tie down our work machines with these tasks, and instead would like to have some older desktops grind it out.
Thank you so much for any feedback you can give.

    Hi Unavailable
As I am an Application Engineer and I work for National Instruments, I would like to make an I impartial advice, I will highly recommend you to install the FPGA compile farm toolkit on a computer and use it as evaluation software, that way you could try it yourself and have your own opinion of the toolkit.
I think that if you will have to run many compilations it might be a good inversion. But as I told you above it will be better to try it and decide for yourself.

  • FPGA compiler Server status says idle but Status says compiling VHDL

when i compile my FGPA vi file , after some time in the compile server window "Server status" shows "idle.." but the status box shows "Compiling VHDL".
It stays in this condition for a long time about 30 mins. Why is this happening? I am also attaching the screenshot of the compile server.
FPGA vi i am trying to compile is the Sine Generator.vi which was there in examples under FPGA Fundamanetals->Analysis and Controls.

I am attaching the block diagram of the fpga vi. It is a sine generator example which was in the labview examples folder.
I am seeign this behaviour only when i compile this fpga vi. I have compiled other fpga vi's without any problem.

  • Why is the preview "Open" window so slow?

    Hey, there guys!
I am wondering why it is that the new "Open" window is so slow in preview. It opens slowly, and when I select a folder, it takes a long time to index the folder's contents. However, I can open a file in preview using finder just fine. The indexing times are almost identical to those that I got when I first bought my mac. I noticed that after the update to Mountain Lion, there was a tab added to the top left called "iCloud". I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it?
My question is: what I can do to increase the speed of the Preview "Open" command? I have seen a couple of forum posts regarding people having issues opening files, but none of them talked about the open window itself being slow.
    Thanks for your help!

Agree the new ios6 is much slower. I found this post by doing a search to find out if it was only me. I've done off & on & a soft reset. Neither helped. Everything seems to load much slower & hangs.
Maybe the new apps aren't optimized yet. However, I had one of my worst experiences with the Apple App Store. One would think they'd know how to optimize their own site & app.
I just hope it's not a bloat issue because the "upgrades" are not worth the performance trade offs to me.
Also, the iMaps are definitely not ready for prime time. I tried getting directions between two locations that were very mainstream and the app said it couldn't provide directions. I'll take Google without turn by turn, thank you. At least let us have a choice and let the best app win.

  • Why is the new iTunes 7 SSSOOOOOOOOOOO slow?

I upgraded to the new iTunes 7 today and HOLY COW it's so slow I almost don't want to use it! Deleting a single song takes over 2 minutes! I'm not even doing anything trickey like downloading or copying - just opening and deleting are OUCH! slow! Why?

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Mac Lifer using MacBook Pro - why is the performance and network SO slow now?

I'm a 15+ year experience designer that lives on my machine. I'm in Adobe, Safari, Mail, Skype and Gotomeeting every day. Skype audio is spotty, Safari lags, Mail lags, and Adobe Photoshop CS6 fonts seem to give it a ton of grief. I would take it in to a store, but don't have the physical time.

See ds store's excellent user tip - Why is my computer slow?
You don't say which model you have, how much RAM, how much free space on your internal hard drive, etc. Information like that can be useful.

  • Why is the download for CS6 so slow

I am trying to download the CS6 installer to my new laptop and the Adobe website is taking over 5 hours for a 9 minute download. Why is it so slow?

    It depends on
what installer package you are trying to download - some are over 6 GB, which can take up to 30 minutes to complete
your Internet connection; I am 10,000 km away from the Adobe download servers, but every download completes within a few minutes
Try downloading the offline installers from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html

  • WHY is the HP Notebook TS11 SO SLOW!!!!

Hi all, We purchased this for my daughter a year ago and just put it aside becuase it was processing so slow out of the box but she still used it every now and then. Literally the only thing we have on it is Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Everything else came on the computer. She also added chrome. I ran multiple virus checks, nothing! Took off all uncessary start up programs still slow.  No additional software added. WHY WOULD HP SELL THIS??? The CPU whe just opening on tab of Chrome goes to 88. That can't be normal. Also the Base Score for performace say 3.1 which I am not sure what that means. CAN ANYONE HELP??????????????? PLEASE!!! My son is now in possession to use this for school but it's so slow it's frustrating. HP please help me fix this. You can't be selling such a sub par product that is running like I have a 1,000 windows and programs on it. This should be flying when we open these programs and not hanging and taking forever to come up. I am open to any fix!

    Hello,
The HP TS11 is a very low-end budget laptop. I'm assuming it is the Dual-Core 1Ghz AMD variant.
First of, this is a budget laptop, as they say; "You get what you pay for" and when you're paying very little, you cannot expect the laptop to be super fast, in fact, it is expected to be slow.
Second, this is a reasonably old laptop now; getting on to be 2 years. Technology has advanced a lot even in this time, so it is likely to be a lot slower than the budget laptops today.
Chrome, is surprisingly a rather demanding peogram. Whilst it is known for stability, it is also a known RAM hog, taking up aholwe Gigabytes of RAM, and the variant I'm assuming your laptop is only has 2GB of RAM- less than many modern smart phones, so you cannot expect it to run a RAM hog with only 2 gigs of RAM.
    Regards,
    William
