Why isn't my finder allowing me to open up any applications by clicking on them through the finder app?

When I try to open any application through my Finder app it doesn't respond. Why is this?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Why do I have to allow or deny iTunes or any other software, access to the internet?

Why do I have to allow or deny iTunes or any other software, access to the internet?
I've had my MBP with Leopard since the summer of 2010. From then till this past spring, I have had my firewall on and when opening a program that needs internet access, such as: iTunes, Vuze, various office products, without a problem.
Since this spring, each time I open the above software, I have give permission (allow/deny) internet access. So, this isn't a prolem really, I'm just curious why this is happening.
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core I7
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OS X 10.6.8

Did you install Little Snitch (or Hands Off)?  It will post a dialog to allow/deny apps calling out if you don't allow it to record what it is to permanently do if it sees the same call again from the same app.
Little Snitch will post a dialog with allow/deny buttons.  But there is also three tab buttons; once, until quit, forever. "Until quit" is the default.  So it won't nag about the same call again until that app quits but it will if you relaunch that app and the app makes the same call out.  Choose "once" will allow that one call to be placed but will cause LS to nag the next time that app tries to call even if you haven't quit.  Choose Forever and it will never nag again about that specific all attempt.
You need to train LS which apps you want to permit calling out and which ones you never want to allow calling out.  You will of course initially be nagged quite often as you are seeing.  But if you train LS to always allow the ones you want to allow eventually there will be fewer and fewer dialogs since your habits don't change that radically in the way you use your own machine.

  • Why isn't there a TechNet forum for ADFS yet? They have been forwarding questions to the "Project Geneva" forum for years now.

Why isn't there a TechNet forum for ADFS yet? They have been forwarding questions to the "Project Geneva" forum for years now.
It would be nice if there was IT Pro specific forum. The MSDN Geneva forum has people who have programming questions for WIF in addition to people trying to get ADFS and Web App Proxy setup.
    WHY?

Given the growing importance of Office 365 and the role of ADFS in some of the larger deployments, that may happen. Someday.
    It is somewhat arbitrary.
AD DS, AD CS, AD FS, and AD RMS are all considered components of Active Directory.
I suppose that's what the AD stands for...
Yet, most ADCS questions are posted and answered in the Technet Security forum.
ADFS questions are often referred to Project Geneva.
Directory Services has its own forum.
Group Policy has its own forum.

If you look in "related threads", someone asked a question precisely about ADCS:

  • Why isn't iOS 7 allowed to be installed on the iPad 1?

I am quite disappointed with apple's attitude to older products. I understand that the first gen iPad may not contain the necessary components and technical specifications to run iOS 7, but that got me thinking when I installed iOS 7 on my old iPhone 4. I bought my iPhone 4 at the same time as buying my iPad and I know that apple usually specs their iPad with an A# 'X' chip which is slightly more powerful than the current generation iPhone's chip at the time. I did some research and found that the iPad 1 has the 1GHz A4 Processor whereas the iPhone 4 has the 800MHz A4 chip. That beign said, apple only allows iOS 7 to be installed on iPad 2 onwards and on the iPhone 4 onwards. I have read on numerous forums that apple did this because the iPad 1 lack sufficient power to run iOS 7, yet they do allow the installation of iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 (which I have to say is appallingly slow). Now, based on what I found, apple should definitely let us install iOS 7 on the iPad 1 because it is more powerful than the iPhone 4.
I know there are ways of installing iOS 7 on the iPad illegally, such as jail breaking it, but I don't believe in buying a product to change what's its designed to do.
If I overlooked something, a reason for why apple doesn't allow this, please tell me!

For what it's worth, we have several 3rd-gen iPads with iOS 7 and they work just fine. Even our iPad 2 units run fine with iOS 7, though of course not as well as with later units. YMMV, but it's probable that the performance issues with your iPad can be solved.  Of course, personal preference comes into play with the look and feel. I prefer iOS 7 myself, but everyone is different.
Getting off the original subject, though, so we won't get too deep into this in Ty's thread. If you would like assistance addressing the performance issues, you'll probably get a number of suggestions if you start your own topic with details.
    Regards.

  • Finder opens instead of applications when clicked on the dock

Hi I am having and issue where if you click on an application on the dock, the finder window opens and shows the application in the finder instead. I have tried trashing the dock preferences and setting the mouse/keyboard preferences to default.
I have tried swapping out the keyboard and mouse.
It is not user specific, it's a problem for every user on the machine.
It does not happen remotely, when I use ARD, I can click on a dock application and it will open the application, only locally when you are actually at the computer is this happening.
Anyone know what is the problem?
    Thanks.

    I fixed it by
Going into /System/Library/CoreServices/ on another machine, Grabbing the Dock.app
    On the broken machine
    opening a terminal
    sudo -s
    killall Dock
    rm -Rf /System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app
    cp -Rf Dock.app /System/Library/CoreServices/

  • Since updating Firefox to 6.0, my Quicktime Pro on Mac OSX 10.6.8 won't allow me to save MP3s, although I can listen to them on the page.

I recently updated Firefox to 6.0 and it quit allowing me to save any mp3s downloaded to the page, although I can still play them in Firefox.
For a very brief time, I was able to save them after the update, and I believe it has something to do with bit rate, as I was asked whether I wanted to increase the bit rate. I clicked yes, but didn't take note of whether it was 32, 64 or something else.
Next time I restarted Firefox, it went back to the original setting and I don't know how to change it. I even purchased another copy of Quicktime to see if that would help, but it didn't.
I'm also having this problem in Safari, so it's probably a Quicktime fix, rather than Firefox, but if there's anything you can tell me, I'd really appreciate it.
Apparently, there are third-party Quicktime softwares that will help, but I don't know what they are or what they do. Can you help, please?

If you upgrade to Lion it comes bundeled with it!
To get it on your Mac Pro just copy the aplication from the aplication folder on your MacBook.  You can do this via a thumb drive or over a local network connection.

  • Why isn't iTunes finding my old library?

I actually had to get a new hard drive for my Studio XPS 15z (it has Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium) and I put all of my old data onto my new hard drive (so I copied my music folder with the Itunes sub-folder in it). But when I installed Itunes 10.6.1 it didn't do the usual thing and automatically find my old old library. I reinstalled Itunes and I also tried to import the "Itunes Library.itl playlist", but there was an error that said it could not be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file...
I have a ton of apps and I already had to recently reorganize everything on my iPod because of the iTunes 10.6 error.
Could someone please help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Close iTunes.
Hold the <SHIFT> button while launching iTunes.
It will prompt to create a new library or choose and existing library.  Select the option to choose the library and direct iTunes to the location of the correct iTunesLibrary.itl file.

  • Why isn't AirPort Express allowing me to print?

When printer's USB cable is plugged into computer, everything prints normal. When printer's USB cable is plugged into AirPort Express, error message appears on computer, and won't print.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
First, make sure that you have installed the printer at the AirPort Express location by connecting the printer to the USB port, powering on the printer, and then opening System Preferences (gear icon on the dock) and then Print & Fax. Click the + (Plus) button to begin the installation process for the printer at the AirPort Express.
Next, review Apple's Printer Troubleshooting Guide for additional tips on printing at the USB port of the AirPort Express.
You really won't know if your printer is compatible with the AirPort Express until you try, but bear in mind that not all printers will work at this location, and if you have an all-in-one type device, only the printing function will work when the device is connected to the Airport Express. Scan, Fax, Copy, Maintenance, etc are not available when the printer is connected to the AirPort Express. If you need these functions, you'll have to plug the all-in-one directly into your computer for these services.

  • Why doesn't firefox/mozilla allow me to open my iTunes store anymore? It used to do so, just fine!

I have asked/posted my quested as above... so please -- pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez -- send proper response ASAP! Thanx a bunch. Signed, despondent :/

Yeah, I don't think it's a money issue...especially since their current plans include unlimited minute use. It may be more that that's just the way the system is set up and not everyone understands or knows how voicemail works. It could also be that you're one of very few complaining about it, hence the majority wins. It's never bothered me as it's always been there.
It's true that you don't have to use Verizon's voicemail service. I use Google Voice myself. It let's me create multiple greetings, even for specific people. It also allows you to choose an alternate number to reach your phone on case you have a situation where you don't want to give out your personal number. You should give it a shot. You can find out more about it at http://voice.google.com.

  • Why can't I find App Store or iTunes on my iPad Air anymore?

I got this iPad Air as a late Christmas present this past Christmas. Up until this point, it's worked very well, but now nothing to do with the App Store can be found. Siri cannot see any app named AppStore or iTunes, the search cannot find anything to do with it on the iPad, and it cannot be found scrolling through All the apps either.
What do I do To fix this? sorry but my mom let my little brother cover this iPad in stickers, and all basic info is covered for now other then this is a iPad Air

It looks like its had 11.7 GB usable, with just 1.1 available. I don't know about the processor, but I suspect is clocked slow by factory for battery since my iPhone is far faster in all equal areas but battery on this lasts far longer then the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s

  • With so many upgrades with the IOS 7 why isn't there a manual just to be able to help go thru and discover all the new features

All these upgrades with the new IOs 7 system why hasn't Apple posted a cheat sheet of sorts so you can take the time to discover and learn those changes
