Why stored procedure are listed in back quotes in universe

Hi,
We intend to create Universe based upon the Stored Procedures.  In the dialog box where it displays the list of stored procedures available in the database, few procedures are displayed correctly but most of them are displayed in Back Quotes like  `SP_NAME`.
Can you provide me with some insight why some procedures are displayed in Back Quotes and others are not and will it create some issues if we use these procedures in the universe.
We are using Business Objects XI release 3.1 and our database is Sybase ASE 12.5

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
We do not have any special characters in the stored procedure name or in the resultset field name that are returned by the procedures.
Thanks,

  • SQL query statement  for stored procedure / function listing ...

    Hi everyone,
    Is there a SQL query to list all the stored procedures and functions of an user in an Oracle 8 database?
    I have this idea:
    select * from USER_SOURCE where TYPE = 'PROCEDURE' or TYPE = 'FUNCTION'
    but I am not too sure whether this is correct.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

    Yeah
    I agree with you Garcia , my above posting was a correction to the query mentioned in the question only.
    you are correct
    If you only want the name of the object,
    SELECT Object_Name from User_Objects where object_type in ( 'PROCEDURE' ,'FUNCTION');
    is much faster than Selecting (distinct) from User_Source.

  • Anyone know why TV shows are not importing back into iTunes from my backup file?

    My whole library was backed up on an external hard drive.  Something happened to my library on iTouch and everything was gone except for most recent purchases.  Also had new computer so downloaded iTunes again and went to import from my backup files.  Music imported but most movies, music videos, and all TV shows did not.  Also tried dragging files from backup folder to iTunes to copy but still did not work.  Anyone know how to fix this??

    iTunes: What are the iTunes library files?
    If your backup/restore includes the library files then information that isn't stored in tags, such as playlists & playlist membership, ratings, play counts etc. is preserved. Video Kind (Movie/TV Show/Music Video) is a property that isn't always stored in the tag. If you had restored the whole library (database files & media) then there would have been no need to import anything as you would have restored the database complete with all its information about your media.
    See this User tip for a recommended backup strategy.

  • Dynamic Execution of Stored Procedure

    Hi Everybody!
    I have two questions for you. All my questions are pertaining PL/SQL programming with Oracle 8i. But before that, I would like to introduce a bit about the background.
    We have .NET based application, which calls some 80 odd Oracle stored procedures one after one. The input parameters for all these stored procedure are same i.e. two IN parameters of Integer type and a OUT parameter of cursor type. The name of these stored procedures are listed in table (let say tblSPTable). We use to get the list of stored procedures from this table and execute them one after one.
    Sooner or later we realized that, this way of calling the stored procedures is causing a performance issue. So, we thought of moving the call to all these stored procedures to a new stored procedure. We thought of giving a call to this new stored procedure, which will in turn execute all these stored procedures one after one (by using the tblSPTable), and return us the all the cursors at one shot. But here is where we got stuck:
    How can I declare a OUT parameter for a list of cursors? Because I need to store the output of all the 80 odd calls in different cursors and have to get it back. I have tried to declare VARRAY of cursors or TABLE of cursors but it is not supported. One way of doing this is to declare all the 80 cursors as OUT parameters in the new stored procedure, but that is absolutely a bad programming practice. Apart from that, in future if we want to modify the order of the stored procedure, OR if we want to add or remove few stored procedures listed in tblSPTable, we have to modify this new procedure every time. My question is how can I declare or use a variable which can hold the list of cursors, which I can use from a .NET base application.
    Secondly, I will get the name of all the stored procedure by querying the tblSPTable, and will execute them dynamically. I have tried out something like this but not succeeded
    declare
    cur_result some_package.some_cursor;
    var_spname varchar;
    begin
    var_spname:=’pr_some_procedure’;
    execute immediate 'begin ‘ || var_spname || ‘(:2); end;' using out cur_result;
    end;
    Bur, I am getting an error saying “Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-03113”. I have scanned through few docs available over net, but none of them are really helpful. My question is how can I dynamically execute a stored procedure which has a cursor as a OUT parameter.
    Please help me out if you people have any idea regarding this. Please let me know whether my approach is correct or not. I am waiting for your valuable suggestions.
    Thanking you

    your solution will work out only in case all the functions returning you a cursor which holds same number of columnNot so. It is unfortunate that my example does not make that clear.
    The UNION ALL is of a single column which is of type weak refcursor.
    By way of example the below changes the p_dept procedure so it returns two columns rather than three.
    Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    SQL> CRE ATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE p_dept (
      2     p_deptno IN dept.deptno%type,
      3     p_resultset OUT SYS_REFCURSOR)
      4  IS
      5  BEGIN
      6     OPEN p_resultset FOR
      7        SELECT d.deptno, d.dname
      8        FROM   dept d
      9        WHERE  d.deptno = p_deptno;
    10  END p_dept;
    11  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL> VARIABLE p_resultset REFCURSOR;
    SQL> BEGIN
      2     :p_resultset := f_all (
      3        p_deptno => 30,
      4        p_functions => varchar2_table ('F_DEPT', 'F_EMP'));
      5  END;
      6  /
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

  • Can I use an OLE DB Command Task to call a parameterized stored procedure, perform some data editing and pass variables back to the SSIS for handling?

    I am using a Data Flow and an OLE DB Source to read my staged 3rd party external data. I need to do various Lookups to try and determine if I can find the external person in our database...by SSN...By Name and DOB...etc...
    Now I need to do some more data verification based on the Lookup that is successful. Can I do those data edits against our SQL server application database by utilizing an OLE DB Command? Using a Stored Procedure or can I sue straight SQL to perform my edit
    against every staging row by using a parameter driven query? I'm thinking a Stored Procedure is the way to go here since I have multiple edits against the database. Can I pass back the result of those edits via a variable and then continue my SSIS Data Flow
    by analyzing the result of my Stored Procedure? And how would I do that.
    I am new to the SSIS game here so please be kind and as explicit as possible. If you know of any good web sites that walk through how to perform SQL server database edits against external data in SSIS or even a YouTube, please let me know.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for that...but can I do multiple edits in my Stored Procedure Vaibhav and pass back something that I can then utilize in my SSIS? For example...
    One and Only one Member Span...so I'd be doing a SELECT COUNT(*) based on my match criteria or handle the count accordingly in my Stored Procedure and passing something back via the OLE DB Command and handling it appropriately in SSIS
    Are there "Diabetes" claims...again probably by analyzing a SELECT COUNT(*)
    Am I expecting too much from the SSIS...should I be doing all of this in a Stored Procedure? I was hoping to use the SSIS GUI for everything but maybe that's just not possible. Rather use the Stored Procedure to analyze my stged data, edit accordingly, do
    data stores accordingly...especially the data anomalies...and then use the SSIS to control navigation
    Your thoughts........
    Could you maybe clarify the difference between an OLE DB Command on the Data Flow and the Execute SQL Task on the Control Flow...
    You can get return values from oledb comand if you want to pipeline.
    see this link for more details
    http://josef-richberg.squarespace.com/journal/2011/6/30/ssis-oledb-command-and-procedure-output-params.html
    The procedure should have an output parameter defined for that
    I belive if you've flexibility of using stored procedure you may be better off doing this in execute sql task in control flow. Calling sp in data flow will cause it to execute sp once for each row in dataset whereas in controlflow it will go for set based
    processing

  • Model type  for DB stored procedures back end?

    I have to use a database via stored procedures (#>100) as a back end system in a web dynpro application.
    And I wonder which type of model is the most appropriate for that usage szenario.
    Of course, I have to create some kind of DAO to access the db and expose the stored procedures as methods of the DAO. But how to get the DAO functionality into the WD model?
    Do I have to go via web services, even if the DAO and the WD application run on the same instance? I think it is some kind of oversized. Would'nt the JavaBean model fit better? But how to get the DAO functionality into the JavaBean model?
    Thank you, best regards
    Christian Luehe

    Hi,
    For my knowledge create EJB and expose this as webservice and use webservice model in webdynpro.

  • How to call multiple stored procedure from same DB Adapter

    Hi,
    I want to invoke 3 stored procedures from my message flow in BUS . I created a DB adapter and invoked 1 successfully . Now I don't to configure 2 other DB adapters for calling other 2 stored procedures . I want some how to be able to call the other 2 from the first DB adapter only . Somehow I need the flexibility to have procedure names as the operation names in 1 wsdl and be able to configure this in JDeveloper for this at time of DB adapter configuration . I am using 11G . Is it possible ?

    You can probably create a DB adapter with operation type selected as Execute Pure SQL and write SQL code to invoke the stored procedures depending on the procedure name (which you can get as one of the parameters of DB Adapter).
    However, Even if you were able to do it, the DB Adapter schemas are generated based on stored procedure parameter list and types. If you use Execute Pure SQL type of DB Adapter the schema will be generated based on the parameters which you are using in your custom SQL code within DB Adapter. Which means that if you want to add a new stored procedure as target which has a different name and different parameters then you will need to regenerate the DB adapter and update your custom SQL code. This also means that you will need to do regression testing interfaces to all stored procedures whenever there is any change in this DBAdapter.
    Now, my question is why do you want to invoke multiple stored procedures from same DB adapter?
    This is not a good way to design integration solutions and makes your services resistance to change as it will take more time to change and test.
    If all that you want is to have a web service which can have different operations for different stored procedures then you should create three business services and create a wrapper proxy service which has one operation for each stored procedure, within the proxy transform and call the correct backend service (you can use operational branch). This way you have a modular code where each module (read interface to one stored procedure) can be independently modified and tested.

  • Calling Stored Procedures from JAVA Application

    Hi all,
    i am using JDeveloper 3.2.2 for creating a DB Application that
    uses Oracle8i as DB Server.
    One approach of the application is to only use PL/SQL Stored
    Procedures to write Data back to the DB.
    Some of the stored procedures expect more than 20 parameters.
    I want to know if there is a better way to call such a stored
    procedure from Java than using a CallableStatement and setting
    its 20 parameters.
    Another reason why the way above isnt possible for me is that
    i need a dynamic way to set the parameters of the stored
    procedure.
    A solution for that dynamic way i could think of is to get
    the information of the stored procedure by using some functions
    of DatabaseMetaData and than use this information to map the
    parameters with their respective variables in the java
    application.
    The best argument against this way is that it would be time and
    performance consuming.
    So could anybody tell me a solution to call PL/SQL stored
    procedures from java which is better than doing something like:
    String calString = "{Call myStoredProc(";
    while(counter < 22) {
    params += "?";
    if(counter<21) params += ",";
    counter++;
    calString += params + ")}";
    try {
    CallableStatement cs = session.prepareCall(calString);
    } catch(SQLException ex) { ... }
    cs.setString(1, var1);
    cs.setString(1, var2);
    And that for every Stored Procedure i want to call ?!?
    Any help or direction-leading would be really appreciated.
    Tank you much.
    MfG,
    Oliver Bankel

    Hi Oliver,
    If you your Stored Procedures were in Java and seamlessly
    integrated with your Java application would that make your life
    easier?
    I don't know if this is a practical or acceptable solution in
    your environment but it would certainly solve all of your issues
    and provide your with a couple of nice advantages. Scalability
    and platform independence are just a couple I could think of.
    There is a tool called in2j (see http://www.in2j.com) which will
    automatically migrate your PL/SQL Stored Procedures into Java.
    You can download a copy of the tool and migrate your PL/SQL to
    Java with no upfront costs. If you're happy with the generated
    Java and want to deploy it, the migration fee falls due - simple.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using stored procedures

    hi all
    How can i use stored procedures for tuning the database?
    thanks

    If you mean "will using stored procedures help improve application performance?" the answer is they may, depending on your application, number of users, etc, etc.
    Stored procedures are just application code stored in the database. This means the network traffic of information being sent back and forth between the server and clients is reduced and the application has more resources (usually) as it is running on the server and not the client. Also stored procedures can be used to cache information for future use by the same user.
    These 2 tutorials on pl/sql may help
    [http://www.asktheoracle.net/plsql-tutorial.html | oracle-plsql-tutorial-part1.htm]
    and
    [http://www.smart-soft.co.uk/Oracle/oracle-plsql-tutorial-part1.htm | plsql-tutorial-part1.htm]
    They are specifically on pl/sql but the general principles pf when and why to use them would be teh same for Java stored procedures or .net stored procedures.

    thanks in advance ...

    Sandeep...
    I have dblinks going all over the place. What you are talking about is a clustered or distributed database. That is the future (or present ) of large databases. My code is set up because an 'architecture' is not yet available in the database itself to support the concepts I've posted to Steve in other threads.
    I fully believe that we'll eventually have BC4J ( or something like it ) directly in the database. I fully believe that the database will load balance these across a cluster of databases, within the database structure itself. For example... there is NOTHING to stop the JVM from deciding that it needs to load balance and submit the thread to a remote machine for processing... independent of creating a "middle tier" outside the database.
    I believed that client-server model was flawed for most (not all) applications in the 80's. Looking at the "application tier" model I have the same feeling that we're creating an overly complex scheme at the wrong layer... just pushed back one stage so that we have to rewrite everything...
    If you go back to the megalithic server design ( or cluster of servers ) with a thin thin front end... just why is the middle tier needed under the scenario I've outlined?
    As such, stored procedures/triggers be they in java or pl/sql seems best bet to me... seeing's how a call spec to java or a pl/sql wrapper is transparent to the caller using jdbc or any other future technology.
    grin Way outside the scope of the universe today... I see it as inevitable.

    I'm trying to create Stored Procedures via .NET and able to do so but when I look in Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, the Stored Procedures are marked as INVALID... If I edit the Stored Procedure (i.e. delete a space or something minor) and SAVE then it compiles fine.....
    Any ideas ????
    will be using this against 9i & 10g db

    Welcome to the forum: please read the FAQ and forum sticky threads (if you haven't done so already), and update your profile with a real handle instead of "920338".
    When you have a problem you'll get a faster, more effective response by including as much relevant information as possible upfront. This should include:
    <li>Full APEX version
    <li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
    <li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
    <li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
    <li>Theme
    <li>Template(s)
    <li>Region/item type(s)
    With APEX we're also fortunate to have a great resource in apex.oracle.com where we can reproduce and share problems. Reproducing things there is the best way to troubleshoot most issues, especially those relating to layout and visual formatting. If you expect a detailed answer then it's appropriate for you to take on a significant part of the effort by getting as far as possible with an example of the problem on apex.oracle.com before asking for assistance with specific issues, which we can then see at first hand.
    Just wondering whether anyone has used a Stored Procedure as the data source for an Apex report. An option to select Stored Procedures(s) as the data source does not appear within the IDE (only displays Table, Views, Functions).
    Do you have to return the definition of the Stored Procedure via a function ... if so, how is this done ? When asking a question about "reports" it's firstly essential to differentiate between standard and interactive reports. Standard reports can be based on tables, views, SQL queries, or PL/SQL function blocks that return the text of a SQL query. Interactive reports can only be based on a SQL query.
    "Stored Procedures" are therefore not an option (unless you are using the term loosely to describe any PL/SQL program unit located in the database, thus including functions). What would a procedure used as the source of a report actually do? Hypothetically, by what mechanisms would the procedure (a) capture/select/generate data; and (b) make this data available for use in an APEX report? Why do you want to base a report on a procedure?

    I've been having a problem using some stored procedures in
    CS3 which had previously worked with no issue in 8.0.2. I'm running
    CS3 on a Mac for ASP & SQL Server 2000.
    The input parameters for the stored procedure are...
    Fieldname: CategoryID (int) length: 4
    Fieldname: Men (bit) length: 1
    Fieldname: Women(bit) length:1
    I have no problem using the Command function to call this
    stored procedure in DW 8.0.2, but in CS3, while I am able to TEST
    the recordset successfully within the Command dialog, when I press
    OK and then attempt to view the field list in the Bindings panel, I
    get this error...
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Procedure
    'spCategoryProduct' expects parameter '@Men', which was not
    supplied.
    When I open up the command settings dialog again, Default
    Values and the Runtime Values I entered for the Men and Women bit
    parameter are blank. The only Default Value and Runtime Value
    retained is for the field CategoryID.
    CS3 is able to call other stored procedures which do not
    contain a Bit field type without issue, so I'm curious if this is
    the culprit.
    I have DW8.0.2 still installed on the same system, and have
    been able to call this stored procedure in this older version,
    without any problems.
    Please help!

  • Using ALTER SESSION inside a stored procedure.... not a good idea?

    Hi,
    I have two stored procedures, both of which are used to query a database to find a particular book, based on ISBN. One sproc searches our main product catalogue and the other searches our suppliers feed catalogues. The stored procedures are called from a C# application via a search tool and the user is able to search on either our catalogue or our suppliers. The appropriate procedure is called based on the users choices.
    However, the following behaviour is observed
    I search for an ISBN (is a varchar2 field, as isbn's may contain an X if the checksum digit equates to 10) on a feed, so uses the FEED SPROC. The book is found and returned to the app in about 0.5 seconds. I can repeat this as often as i like on different books etc. always works fine.
    I then do the same search but against our own catalogue, so uses our CATALOGUE SPROC. Again the book is found quickly, and the search can be repeated with the same results.
    If i then go back and run our FEED SPROC then the search time increases to about 3 minutes !
    Both the feed and our catalogue is in the same database, although different schema's the connections will be pooled through our app server.
    I can repliacte this every single time. I think i have narrowed doen the cause of this behaviour to a few lines of code in our CATALOGUE SPROC:
    -- store values
    select value into v_vch_NLS_COMP from nls_session_parameters nsp where nsp.parameter = 'NLS_COMP';
    select value into v_vch_NLS_SORT from nls_session_parameters nsp where nsp.parameter = 'NLS_SORT';
    -- Ensure case insensitivity throughout
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP = LINGUISTIC';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT = BINARY_CI';
    do other stuff
    -- restore session variables
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_COMP = ' || v_vch_NLS_COMP;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET NLS_SORT = ' || v_vch_NLS_SORT;
    If i remove this code then all is well, so i am assuming that using ALTER SESSION inside a stored procedure is the cause of the problem as it would be changing the execution plan of the FEEDS SPROC in some manner? Any ideas? I know i can just rewrite the sproc to avoid using this coding, but wanted to understand if i am doing something wrong by using ALTER SESSION in this manner?
    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Hello (and welcome),
    It may be a case of having to create a linguistic index to facilitate the queries once you set these session level parameters, i.e..,
    CREATE INDEX idx_01 ON tab ((NLSSORT(col1, 'NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI'))It would appear that the setting of those parameters is invalidating index searching on the current indexes.
