Why the user experience on Bluetooth keyboard of iPad is different on keyboard of MacBook, especially when typing Chinese characters?

I am a Chinese in Taiwan, and I use a input method call "Changjei" (倉頡) to input chinese character. And thank for  "Yahoo Kimo Input Method" found in Macbook Pro, so that I can use this method  as same as typing in Windows PC. When I use bluetooth keyboard connect to iPad mini, it has "Changjei" input method also, but the user experience is different than typing in MacBook Pro! I often type the wrong word when typing in iPad, because some words need additional space key to avoid selection ( when selection appear usually need additional number key for selection ). Usually every chinese character only need one space key for confirm, and in iPad, some Chinese characters need two space key(this will cause problem), and others need one as usual. It slow me down greatly, and is not a smoothly and freely experience when expressing my idea by typing in iPad, and I often distract by these misleading situation when typing.

Could you specify the model of MacBook and the OS X it's running, please? Some of the advice or references vary along with the system, so this could be helpful to formulate a reply. I've never used a Guest User selection, but do have more than one User.
If the computer does not have an optical drive, you may be able to boot it into a recovery disk mode or something; in an attempt to see what is wrong and maybe fix it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • TS2756 Does the iPhone 4S supports Bluetooth pairing with iPad mini?

Does the iPhone 4S supports Bluetooth pairing with iPad mini?

Only from within peer-to-peer apps from the app store or internet tehering (if proved by the carrier)
They support bluetooth for handsfree telephone, stereo music, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, and internet tethering when provided by the carrier.
Other than these it will not connect to another iphone, phone, computer, device, ipad

How do I change the user agent for Safari on my iPad?  I know how to do it on my desktop version, but I need it for my iPad.

You can rename the iPad here:
    Settings - General - About - Name
For Siri make sure he has himself as a contact in the Contacts app then:
Settings - General - Siri - My Info and select his contact info

  • The User Experience

Has anyone seen documentation that describes Portable Directories from the users' perspective please?
All the Apple material I've seen, and the Visual Quickpro Guide, deal with them from the network administrator's viewpoint. I would like to be able to provide users of these accounts with material that describes the process from their end.
For example: what's going on during synchronisation? when to/not to synchronise.
    Thanks in advance.
    Brian Bowell.

Some screenshots of what the feature will look like to end users are available on this page. Synchronization updates part or all of the copy of the home folder on the network so that it is the same as on the client; it should be done before you move from one computer to another, and performing a sync should also be done when you've just finished creating an important document, as it provides some protection in case the document is accidentally lost from one place.

  • Typing Chinese characters on iPad keyboard

How can I type Chinese using the iPad keyboard and how to switch between English and Chinese?

I'm referring the Keyboard dock, not the built-in keyboard on iPad.
You still need to use the Settings to select the Chinese keyboard layout. There is a separate section for hardware keyboards, where you can further choose us, french, german (depending on whether your physical keyboard is qwerty, azerty, or qwertz).
Are you having some problem after doing that? Are you familiar with how normal pinyin input works?

I have the same printer, P1005, and hae been using it with Tiger (PPC), Leopard (PPC and intel), snow Leopard and Lion. What I do know is that it DOES HAVE print bugs in Tiger and, perhaps, Leopard, I had to ALWAYS manually delete print jobs after EVERY print as system did not clean memory. I reported this to Apple, but it seems to be a printer driver issue, unsolved by HP. It was solved in subsequent systems. So, my suggestion is to upgrade to Snow Leopard at least, as you have a core 2 duo 2006 MB, or directly to Lion as most recent, and best fit with printer drivers. You must put at least 2 GB of memory for SL and Lion, best is 4 GB (your model may support 3 GB only if the first core 2 duo series).
Until then, clean printing system by clicking minus button in sys prefs/print.
download last HP printer driver for Tiger, check with their site
install driver or reinstall, even if installed
    put printer back again
If it continues to behave as described, then you must delete every print job after completion or upgrade to at least SL. Many say SL is best for that generation, me included. But you must not share this opinion, of course.

  • What's the difference in the user experience of ion3, wmii and dwm.

I want to try something new, especially some new concepts, not just another wm, nor I actually 'need' something -  in the moment xfce just works for me. Of course, I have thoroughly read the (available) documentation of these WMs and tested a session, but they are all too different and I feel I need some shared experience in order to decide in which one to invest more time. I would like to ask people that have wider experience to spot some strong or weak points of each WM - but in no way it should be like 'this one is better' or sth. - especially ones that are not instantly obvious - from the descriptions on the home site or limited testing,
For example - wmii talk 9P, and this sound really cool, but I have no damn idea how this could be actually useful. Dwm is extremely minimalist, and I am not sure if it is not too minimalist to be practical.
Again, I don't need advice like what Wm to choose (which is essentially a stupid question), but just mentioning peculiar spots of each one, especially not instantly obvious ones.
    Thank you in advance.
P.S. If there is already a topic, that is close to that, I'll appreciate provided link - my search found just general WM topics, as well as topics for specific WM, which was useful, but not completely enough.
P.P.S. If someone thinks ratpoison is unfairly ignored, one may provide its advantages, although I just somehow do not like it (nothing reasanoble)

The three (and I'll throw in Ratpoison because I love it) seem to have distinct approaches to the way you're expected to use windows.
DWM expects you to have one main window focused and a few others that you do want to see, but don't need to have focused at full size. The way it puts them along the edge is pretty nice on a widescreen monitor. Virtual desktops are provided since it would be a pain to cycle all the way through your window list whenever you wanted to change.
wmii seems (I only played with it a little) to be based largely on columns. This is very similar to Plan 9's editor Acme. Heck, when I first saw the screen shot on the wmii page I thought I was looking at Acme. You divide the screen into (usually two) columns and can arrange your windows within those as you choose. It's a fairly nice approach, marrying the simplicity of DWM's "main window" concept with the flexibility of other managers by having only a couple of "places" for windows (the columns), but multiple windows in each, whose exact positioning doesn't matter much. Tags are substituted for conventional workspaces. I haven't played with this feature.
Ion3 (which I used for a while) is based on the idea that you will divide the screen into just a couple of panes, and group your windows into those. Most of your windows will be invisible at any given time, but you can get to them all easily with the tab strip at the top of each pane, showing its associated windows. In this WM each window is in a definite place, unlike in Ratpoison, in which hidden windows are just hidden, and associated with no pane in particular. Ion also assumes that you will have some programs that don't play nice with a tiled manager, and allows the creation of virtual desktops that contain floating windows. Virtual desktops in this WM are pretty much the same as those in your standard floating WM.
The key to "getting" Ratpoison (which I have used a lot, and am using now) is that unlike the other three, you're not expected to have a complex layout of screen panes. Although you could create something of arbitrary complexity using the vertical and horizontal spit commands, it would quickly become a nightmare to work with, and there is no easy way to switch between layouts because, while you can save and load them, windows are not associated with particular panes on the screen, and will end up who-knows where. Instead, a Ratpoison user wants to switch between windows by hitting ^T (remappable, I use my Windows key) and then the number that was assigned when each window was created. As you may notice, this is how screen works as well. You quickly learn to remember these numbers, just like a screen user or Nethack player. 90% of the time I work with only one window on the screen switching between it and my alternate window, and the other 9% of the time I have two windows (mostly when I want to drag and drop things, but sometimes for reference material). 1% of the time I might hit three or [gasp!] four.
While the other three WMs seek to make it easier to manage your on screen windows, Ratpoison takes the approach that you probably don't need to have more than a couple of windows on screen at one time. Based on this logic, Ratpoison doesn't provide virtual desktops. If your windows aren't on screen, why do you need more virtual screens for them not to be on? Ratpoison does provide window groups, which serve a similar function. Unlike virtual desktops, switching groups does not change what's on your screen; it only changes the list of windows you are working with. This may sound like a pain, but keep in mind that you, as a Ratpoison user, probably have fewer than two panes on your screen. It's not hard to switch both of those to something else, and half the time you only want to change one of them (e.g. drag and drop between window groups). Ratpoison also supports multiple screens, which are treated much like panes on a single screen, except of course you can not delete them (senseless) or move windows between them (X11 limitation; not Ratpoison specific).
Another nice Ratpoison feature is that you can tell it not to manage certain windows, and you can tell it to leave some padding between windows and the edge of the screen. So I can run an unmanaged Rox sidebar to hold try icons, status monitors, a trash can, and volume control, and reserve that space for it with some padding. I can also remove that padding or change its size if I want to cover the sidebar.

  • Leopard iCal (v3.0) takes away functionality and ruins the user experience

Why oh why did Apple DESTROY the usability of iCal present in Tiger with the horrid changes they made to iCal in Leopard? Please, Apple, put it back the way it was.
In Tiger iCal, if I highlight an event, the sidebar pops up intelligently ready for me to enter times, repeats, alarms, notes, or invitees. It was even smart enough to put it to the side with the most screen space.
In Leopard iCal, Apple has taken all that intelligent functionality away and burdened users with way too many unnecessary mouse clicks before en event can be entered or edited.
Now, with "new and improved (NOT)" Leopard iCal 3.0, if I want to add an event in the monthly calendar, I double click on the day, but instead of the sidebar opening all by itself, I must now do another double click on the event itself and yet another click on the EDIT button, all before I can actually enter an event in the real world.
Oh, sure, I can type the name of my event after the first double click, but that's useless for any events with times, invitees, alarms, or notes.
Again, what were the people at Apple thinking? Do any of them actually use iCal?
I check the iCal help and there was something about clicking a button in the lower right hand corner of the iCal window to quicking edit an event, but there is no such button there, only the push pin for to-dos. CMD-I will bring up the event window, but it still requires a mouse click on enter edit mode.
If you agree with me and want iCal back the way it was, please submit iCal feedback to Apple and tell them they got it wrong in Leopard iCal 3.0.

Lot's of folks agree with you.

I keep thinking, maybe I'll just get used to the changes and still, every single day the use of this core application is a source of constant frustration. I keep blindly hoping that the iCal team will listen to user feedback and examine the usability of this app.
And for the record, it's never been about the info drawer - it's about overall usability and restoring such basic items as one click editing of content on the calendar, being able to have a usable / expandable long event descriptions and being able to edit with one click vs. three.
For just one instance of how they broke this, just try creating a text entry of 200 characters or more in the "notes" field and then see what happens if you add more text. Unlike this web form which automatically keeps scrolling so you can keep typing....it stops and you have to manually scroll from short line to short line. It's just unbelievable - as if they didn't QA the basic functionality with a single user that does anything beyond the most limited use of the app.

  • Bluetooth on my iPad doesn't accept or send anything, even when paired and turned on on both items. My iPad is only a few weeks old. What's wrong?

I've paired by iPad with my Nokia phone. Bluetooth is turned on on both items, but when I try to send a photo from my phone to my iPad, I get a message on my phone saying "it's not supported by the other device". Is there a fault on my iPad? Or have I not set something up properly? I'm at my wit's end, as I'd like to upload photos while I'm on holiday.

Sorted! Apparently iPad is just not geared up for Bluetooth except for keyboard and headsets!

  • Why can't I get a Mac created/iPad edited Pages document to appear in iTunes when using "send to iTunes" command in Pages on my iPad

This morning I updated to iTunes 10.4. and also updated Pages on my MacBook (SL 10.6.8)  to version 4.1. My iDevices are all recognized in iTunes and all is going fine except for this one thing. I created a Pages document on my Mac and I sent it to my iPad using file sharing with iTunes. I edited and finished the document on the iPad and then used the "send to iTunes" feature and prepared to sync back to my Mac. The document appears to transfer over - and I have tried sending it over again and again - but it never appears in the file sharing Pages documents window after I sync. When I try to send it from the iPad again, the device tells me that the document already exists and asks if I want to replace it, so it must be transferring somehow but I don't see it in the window.
This only started after I updated both applications. I've been using Pages and file sharing without any issues at all until now. The really ironic thing is that I can create a Word document on my Mac, send it to the iPad, edit it there and send it back to iTunes and it appears in the window like you would expect - but my Pages documents do not. Word documents work fine but not Pages documents? Documents created on the iPad seem to be going back and forth fine but not Mac created files.
I've tried everything I can think of, restarting disconnecting the iPad reconnecting the iPad, hard reset .... Any ideas? Is there something that I am missing? Anybody else experience this?

Just thought I'd add my solution, I decided to go with WebDAV and I think it actually works better than the iTunes way, the steps are pretty much the same but avoiding the iTunes interface just makes things easier and faster.
I followed this guide but it does have a small mistake in the httpd-dav.conf file, on line 2, where it's WebServer/WebDAV">, it should be <Directory "/Library/WebServer/WebDAV">.
The tricky part is setting permissions which if wrong will give you errors when connecting with the iPad, I opted to set all to Read&Write since my home network has a hardware firewall. Another convenience was to add an alias to the webdav share on the Desktop.
I'm still expecting the call from Apple but even if they fix the iTunes I'm sticking with WebDAV, atleast until I see what's new with iOS5 and iCloud this fall which should bring true sync for documents (I'm hoping that they will offer encryption with my own keys, if not, then I'll probably keep using WebDAV).

  • I need chords that are unavailable once you make a "key selection.  What would be ideal is for APPLE to allow you to use the 8 available chords for your own choice.  It is very limiting.  Especially when writing.

I want the ability to load chords into the 8 available positions once I have chosen a KEY.  Currently Apple loads up the primary major and minor chords within that key.  However it would work much better if I had the option to replace some of their choices for my own.  In some songs I could use a 7th or not use a minor.

Yes, this would be VERY helpful. right now, the chord selections are limiting -- the ability to choose which chords you want in your 8 chord lineup would be very, very beneficial.
I understand that the automated choices help the musical novices to find chords that are in the same traditional family. However, maybe the ability to override that or vary the selection would be good for both novices and more expert users.

  • HT204380 How does a user of multiple Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac laptop) designate which devices will ring when an incoming Facetime call comes in.  If all three are online, should they all be able to accept an incoming video call?

A friend of mine has an iPhone with a cellular data plan, a Macbook Pro, and a mini-iPad.  She's been using Facetime, but says that all of the devices used to ring at the time of an incoming Facetime call.  Now only her iPhone rings.  How do you set whichever device you want to ring?

James: I agree. Please keep them shorter.
The answers to both questions are no.
The iPad is NOT a computer replacement. It is a mobile device.
The iPad can not stream tro the iPhone nor an iPod.
    Hope this helps....
