Why this program cant open file

windows maybe cant parse file path which has space?how to solve it

import java.io.IOException;
public class TestOpen{
    public static void main(String[] args){
        try{
           String fileName="C:/Documents and Settings/nj918/.netbeans/3.6/sampledir/readMe.txt";
           Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start " + fileName);
           }catch(IOException e){
                System.out.println(e);
}

Try with quotation marks around the path:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start \"" + fileName + "\"");
