Why use Solution Manager?

Hi,
I wonder if you can help.  We have been advised to install Solution Manager in order to manage the upgrade from 4.6c to ECC 5.0, but have also heard conflicting advice that states that this is not necessary and is an overhead.
Can anyone advise if SolMan is worth installing and what the benefits are of running the upgrade through this vs using normal methods.
Many thanks.
Sean

Hi,
Wel solution manager is an awesome project tracking tool.
Say for e.g it will generate reports for the overall testing using which you will be able to know who is testing what is testing and how much testing is compeleted.
It stores all the log for automatic test cases whether ECATT or External (mercury QTP).
I have written several blogs on testing and ecatt and qtp integration can view the same on sdn.
In addition to above if you use solution manager you can get accelerate roadmap documents and also provide you reports which can show you the current progress of your project with time and dates.
Provide e-learning and also can use solution manager as document management system.
If you are not going to use the same,You are missing all above.Decision is your's.
Please reward points if it helps.

Whats the relationship between CCMS system and SolMan?
    Thank you .

    hi,
I just want to ask a question. At our client we have solution manager and CCMS. There is data in CCMS I can extract, it is loading on BW side ok the same number of recs,  but the problem on CCMS cubes says there are the same number of record in the cube and also showing as the data is ready for the reporting. But when I run the report and view the data as listcube it is empty.
ANy of you have the situation like this cube say it has the data but when do th BEX or infocube contents the cube is empty nothing in there. The same thing is happening with hourly, 15 minute and daily cubes.
Anyhelp on this matter is appreciated

  • How to monitor BI & PI using Solution Manager 4.0

Hi, we have installed Netweaver 04S SR2 SP11 BI & PI components. We want to use Solution Manager 4.0 to setup monitoring for these 2 systems. Any guide or documentation will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Arshish

    Hi Arshish,
To setup monitoring you will first have to include these systems in the system landscape of SAP solution Manager 4.0 in transaction SMSY.
The steps in the order are :
    1. Create Server ( Server name ,IP and Fully qulaified Host name)
2.Create Database  (Give the database you are using)
3.Then you have to create the system itself. and give the information as required. You will be able to do it when you will go through it.
Then you have to generate the RFC's from solution manager to satellite systems and back. These RFC's have to be trusted.Assign role SAP_S_RFCACL or profile S_RFCACL  to the users in SOLMAN as well as satellite system.
Follow these steps and create a Logical component for the system that you have added.
Follow these steps first.More information can be found out on
    service.sap.com\solutionmanager
or you can look for the RKT'S on service marketplace. If you need any furthur assistance do reply back.
please award points if found helpful

  • Project Management using Solution Manager

    Hi,
We are trying to use solution Manager for managing our IT projects - specifically for SAP projects.
We browsed through the existing functionalities that are available and are not able to get info on the following:
___Project Admin tab for Roadmaps :_ __ In the transaction RMMAIN, we are able to define the scope of the activities at each phase and assign team members and track the status of the activity / task.
However we do not have the tab for tracking the planned start date / end date and the actual start / end dates. Similar is the case for efforts.
So not sure how to track these?
Integration of Roadmaps and Blueprints : Once we have defined the project and assigned the Roadmap, we have all the activities that need to be tracked. In addition in transaction SOLAR01 / SOLAR02, we can define the scope and configurations which in itself are a kind of sub projects to be embedded withing the Blueprint and realization phases respectively of the main Projetc Plan.
How to link these Blueprint specific plan and the realization related plan to the main project plan created out of the Roadmap chosen and to track them as one single project?
Synchronization wih ms project : I see only the option to download the plan as an mpp file. But is there any option to upload mpp as well so that the project can be tracked using mpp and synchronized with Solution manager at frequent intervals?
Your answers would definitely be helping us a lot and would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
    regards,
    suresh velan

    Hi Suresh,
Solution Manager is a Project Management tool. But it is not for Project Planning. If you want to do Project Planning also from the SolMan system, then you have to enable cProjects component of SolMan.
Synchronization between your MS Project and cProjects is possible. But synchronization between SolMan's RoadMap/Blueprint and MS Project is not possible.
In RoadMap, you can capture and track the status of all phase-wise activities as to what is their status. Here capturing date details is not possible.
In Blueprint/Configuration you can capture and keep track of the individual object's blueprinting and configuration activities. Here you can capture the planned/actual start/end dates for each object.
As I said earlier, Solution Manager provides lot of Project Management features, but Project Planning is not possible. For that we have to start using cProjects component in SolMan.
    Hope it helps.
    best regds,
    Alagammai.

  • Is it a must to use Solution manager for ECC 6.0 upgrade

Is it a must to use Solution Manager for ECC 6.0 (FICO & HR) upgrade? I am told Solution Manager is required only if it has ABAP and JAVA stacks, or involves Enhancement Packages; and could be optional if it is only ECC 6.0 with ABAP stacks.

    Hi,
I'm having a difficult time finding some guidance for setting up our R/3 Enterprise system in solman properly, so that I can create the upgrade XML file required to go directly to ERP 6.0 EHP4.
I've set up the R/3 system fine, but when i create a maintenance transaction i cannot for the life of me figure out how to tell it I want to go from r/3 to ERP6 ehp4.
Any docs out there for this?
    Thanks!
I figured it out... i had to add the R/3 Enterprise logical components to my system landscape.  After that I was able to select R/3 as the initial data in the maintenance transaction and then the system i wanted to upgrade, and then the option to upgrade.
    Never mind!

  • How to create a "blueprint" using solution manager?!!

I have been asked to create a 'blueprint" using solution manager!! I have absolutely no clue how this can be achieved using solution manager!! Please guide me on what is to be done.Would appreciate if you donot give me links of help.sap as the same is not making sense to me.
I have to create a blueprint for 20 countries of SAP reports available for FICO. Some of these reports are country specific while others are generic.

    Hi Suchita,
You can create blueprint document using SOLAR01 transcation, provided you must have included all the organizational data, business process, master data,,
    Follow the path
    transaction SOLAR01->Business Blueprint-> Generate Blueprint
You must have created a solution and a project assigned to that solution also.
further clarifications feel to post the query
    regards

  • Search & Install SAP Notes using Solution Manager

Does anyone have specific documentation on how to search and install SAP notes using Solution Manager. I have read numerous times about this capability but have not found any success finding specific info on how this is done.
Can someone please share their experience? Can you also provide some documentation?
    Thank you

    Dear Ramesh,
Like what Rajeev has mentioned, you can use transaction tab in your message/ticket for searching for note or even deploying to satellite system.
for this in solman you need to maintain these 2 enties, so that it takes you to service market place.

  • Using Solution Manager 4.0 to control SLD

    Hello everyone:
I've installed SolMan 4.0 on an Instance, and in another instance, a whole NetWeaver stack 2004s. Now I'm configuring XI and as a pre-req I need SLD configured.
My question is, do I need to configure it on SolMan, or just in the Java side of my installation? if I do it only on JAva, will I be able to "see" it on the Sol Man?
    Thanks a lot!
    Alejandro

    Hi Alejandro,
You just need one central SLD for all your landscape, you just need to decide where to put it. Is not true that you must have a local SLD for XI, XI needs an active SLD but can be local or remote.
You can configure one CENTRAL SLD for all your systems, first decide which will be your SLD, then you can configure all your systems to "send" their own information to the CENTRAL sld. see the link: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/01ea90ab24235de10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm in the secction "Configuring Systems to Connect to SLD".
When you finish with this all your systems will be sending their information to the SLD periodically.
SolMan and XI uses the information stored in the SLD to opperate correctly, so now you must do some customizations in order to have SolMan and XI reading information from SLD.
In the case of SolMan you can make some customizations in order to have the landscape (SMSY) up to date using the SLD as data source. Do not get confused with the SLD and the transaction SMSY because there are different things.
Read the document "How to: Exchanging System Data between SMSY and SLD " from the link below:
    https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=OBJECT&_HIER_KEY=501100035870000009816&_HIER_KEY=601100035870000154900&_HIER_KEY=701100035871000330691&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&#HOME
And XI is the same thing.  You can configure it to connect to your central SLD. look on the post installation of your XI version.
In our case we have one central SLD instaled on the java stack of our solution manager server, and we have one server form BW, another server for Enterprise Portal, and another server for PI (previuously called XI). All of them sends their own information to SLD. And Portal, XI and SolMan reads information from the central SLD. So now our SMSY in SolMan is allways up to date, also XI.
    Regards.

  • How to apply patches by using solution manager system?

    HELLO FRIENDS,
when i download the patch SAPKB70012 & next level patches from service market place, it says that we have to apply the following packages by using maintenance optimizer(solution manager). here i have solution manager4.0., please any one let me know how to configure the maintenance optimzr  and how to apply support packages by the solution manager system.
              Thanks&Regards
               Farkath.C

    Hello
Solman will not implement the files you can download the files using Solman. You need to move the downloaded files to application server and implement them for that you need to configure MoPZ
You can go to server market place service.sap.com/RKT in that select Solution manager.
You will have to select the product as solution manager 7.0 and in technology consultants and system administrator you will find the configuration documentations in for for SIM files.
You can use that and learn how to configure the optimizer on the system.
Then you can download the files and implement the same.
    Regards
    Vivek

  • How to download Support Package without using Solution Manager

    Hello Guru,
I am planning to upgrade our Netweaver System to SP12, which is released after Apirl 2007, now SAP AG requires Solution Manager to approve the SP download request, then I can use SAP Download Manager to download basket.
Is there any way to walk around? because we don't have a configured Solution Server.
    Thank you

    Hi,
You can try to complain to SAP but I am very doubtful this will change their mind.
This the way SAP found to set SOLMAN mandatory. I think this is ridiculous as the customers should always be the ones making the choices and not the suppliers...
There is absolutely no added value from SOLMAN to download the support packages...
    Regards,
    Olivier

  • Can i use Solution manager ADS for ECC6 ABAP

    Dear All,
We have landscape of ECC6 ABAP (Dev, Qua, Prd), can i install and configure ADS on Solution manager(ABAP+JAVA) and connect all Dev , qua and prd to same solution manger for Adobe interactive forms. is it possible ?
    for production environment?.
    Regards
    Vinay

    Hello!
This was already discussed. E.g. here ADS install in Solution Manager.
While it is technically possible (to connect several systems to one ADS) it is not recommended for productive environment for some reasons (security, stability, performance and easy of maintenance). I say you can use you ADS on SolMan for DEV, QAS and number of your training/demo systems, but install separate J2EE with ADS instance (better on separate server) for productive use. You can then check ADS updates/patches on SolMan first without breaking productive system and only then (if successful) update productive.
