Why when updating the software on my iPad it wiped out my calendar and all my contacts? Discouraged for sure.

Why when updating the software on my iPad 2 ( as I was encouraged on iTunes) it wiped out my calendar and contacts list. All is gone that I spent hours putting them in the iPad.

I am new with the iPad. I opened iTunes hooked the cable up to sync and it asked me if I wanted to update the software. Not knowing any better I said yes. So when it was done, well all my information was gone, wiped out. So do I have to enter the information all over again. This never happened with my windows based computers. Help please.

I hope that you can see this response. The forum software is acting quite bizarre today.
You really do want to restore with your own computer. There is an off chance that you might be able to backup first, but I really think it is a very slight chance now since you got the connect to iTunes screen. But on the chance that when you connect, it sees the iPad and allows a backup, I would to not have you wait to use your own Mac.
If you cannot create a backup, you will lose everything that you have put on since the date to the last backup. So of your last backup was three weeks ago, you will restore the iPad to the condition that it was in three weeks ago.
If you do a lot of traveling, using iCloud for backups might be a very good idea. I use iTunes primarily and I backup my MacBook Pro with Time Capsule, but I still use iCloud as a secondary backup. I don't have enough data that I have exceeded the free 5 GB that you get with iCloud, so I do use it just in case.
I can't explain what happened with the update, I can only tell you that it does happen to other users. I have never had a problem when I updated and I having been updating over WiFi since iOS 5 came out. Taking a guess, maybe an interruption in the connection - especially of you tried updating using a hotel's WiFi network, or a power surge maybe. Whatever the cause, it is most likely a one time thing. That doesn't help your situation I know, but hopefully it won't happen again.

  • I can't update the software on my iPad 3 even though I've got enough storage space

I can't update the software on my iPad 3 even though I've got enough storage space, can you help? It is to update to IOS 7.0.4

Storage space on iCloud is not a substitute for storage space on the iPad. You need sufficient storage space on your iPad to accomodate the download. How much Available space do you have? Go to Settings>General>Usage
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • HT4972 why can't i update the software on my ipad model MB292LL?

Why can't I update the software for my IPad model MB292LL? The ios is 5.1.1 and I have seen newer ios versions come out. Also, many apps aren't available for my Ipad because of the ios. Is this Apple's way of forcing you to buy a new IPad? If so, that *****!

The 1st generation iPad can not be upgraded beyond 5.1.1

  • I just updated the software on my iPad and now I cannot update my Aps or install new ones.  I ran a diagnostic and that resulted in "power issue." It wouldn't let me select what my options were.  Any ideas?

Don't know where to get help.  I just updated the software and I am having issues with not being able to update Aps or install new ones.  The circles just spin and Aps just say "waiting."  I tried running a diagnostic with the apple store and it came back with "power issues" (?) as a result.  It wouldn't let me select an option to see what steps I could take to fix it, it just backed out of the page.  I just don't know what to do.....

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done.

  • How I update the software in my iPad?

I need to update the IOS in my iPad but when it tries to install it gives me an error message that the update can't be installed due to an error in the file.
How do I fix this?? How do I download the update file again??
    Thanks.

What model iPad do you have & what iOS version is it running? For the iPad 1, iOS 5.1.1 is the max version.

  • How do i update the software on an ipad provided by the company without syncing to my itunes?

I have an iPad2 provided by my employer based out of Arizona. I want to update the software to the most current available. I do not have access to the iTunes account used to set up the device, and if I use my iTunes, I will loose the apps and data installed on teh device when it was issued to me. Is there a way to update the software without knowing my company's iTunes account and password and without losing the apps and data currently on the device?

Ok, thank you for the prompt response. I guess I will ahve to send it back to corporate for them to update.
